Diner Reviews
  • "Lunch was thoroughly enjoyed here--quality and quantity just right! Favorites were the brussel sprouts, hash, panko chicken with sauce."

  • "The celebration of our son's 30 th birthday was definitely enhanced by our dinner at Cerulean. From the beautiful Indiana oak bar top in the bar to the fantastic cocktails served at the table, everything could not have been better. We had 2 small plates and 2 entrees for 3 people, and that was plenty! The menu changes often, I am told, so I won't have you get your mouth set for a treat that may not be available. Just know everything offered is perfectly delicious and beautifully presented. I do have to say that the pork porterhouse is the single most amazing, huge, delicious, etc. etc. pork chop on the planet. The end."

  • "The cheese board was quite pleasant. The Foie Gras Trorchon, was disappionting, as it was not a torchon, but actually a pâté and although rich and creamy in texture, had a disturbing hint of what seemed to be fennel. The staff asserted no fennel was used in its preparation. It was also extremely salty or the salt of the house pretzel rolls it was served with, lingered and impacted the foie gras. The skinless duck breast was excellent in flavor and texture but was overshadowed by the pasty cream sauce of the fettuccine upon which it was served and the skin of the duck breast that was separately fried flat with no seasoning. In my opinion, what could have been an excellent meal failed in its attempt. Good but overpriced given my expectation."

  • "I had the $39 steak. It was far short of being worth $39."

  • "Loved the menu as it wasn't the average items that you find everywhere. Focus was on taste with organic foods and simple ingredients. You will find unusual items such as duck. The mixologist in the bar was great in suggesting a great drink while we waited. The bar upstairs was beautifully decorated and had a open glass patio."

  • "The decor along with the food and service is as good as it gets. Very knowledgeable wait staff and management made our evening so special. Everything we ate from soup to nuts (shared small plates of gnocchi & salmon croquettes, large plates of trout, duck and two desserts) was heavenly. Check out the pastry chef making the signature desserts behind a window. We even had a tour of the kitchen - it is beautiful and very clean! A divine foodie restaurant for sure."

  • "Fantastic professional friendly service. Artfully romantic space. Exquisite food selection. Parking is secure and affordable. 5-stars"

  • "Food was excellent but follow through from wait staff, such as wrapping leftovers and asking for extra crackers, were not fulfilled. Getting the check took quite a long time and we had asked for separate dinner checks but it all came as one."

  • "Love the "bento box" approach for lunch. Wine expensive but the food at lunch is good value for what you get. Not for people who like "same old same old"!"

  • "Although the free appetizer with our IRT ticket stubs made us laugh, my friends and I enjoyed our Cerulean experience overall. The appetizer was a duck something or other that was the size of a jelly bean. It's not visually impressive, and it's certainly unlike any appetizer I've ever had before. The rest of the meal was entertaining as we had several different samplings of various unique foods. Our main courses were also interesting and unusual. I can't say the flavors of my pork entree were especially memorable, but the presentation of all the food was fun. The atmosphere was also fun although had we not been in a booth it would have been an effort to hear each other. I recommend the Cerulean for a fun and unique dining experience."

  • "I took my wife to the Cerulean to celebrate her birthday. Our waiter was Jake and Jake is one of the most amazing waiters we have ever had in any restaurant. His knowledge of the dishes and each ingredient and the preparation of the dish is amazing. He is kind, courteous, timely, and extremely knowledgeable about every aspect of the restaurant from the drinks to the dishes and pairings of each. We also appreciated Kevin and his desire for us to have a wonderful experience, as well. What a great time we had!"

  • "We had been really looking forward to going to this restaurant, but I was not impressed. The cauliflower soup and salad on the "medium plate" menu were the best items; however the rest of the food did not impress. My husband ordered the ribeye, which was decent; however for the price, it was nothing spectacular and could have gone to Sullivan's for a much better one. I had the ONLY vegetarian entree on the large plate menu, which was absolutely flavorless and was lukewarm, so I didn't even eat the entire entree because it was cold 1/2 way thru. We both had the chocolate ganache dessert which was good; however they had WAY too much going on and the flavors got very confusing."

  • "The food is excellent. The menu is fun to explore. Don't be afraid to try things on this menu. Great surprises. Ambience is modern and cozy. We will definitely be back."

  • "Ate here for a business lunch on a Monday. It wasn't too busy. Great service - young waiter was very knowledgeable about the menu and very attentive, but not too attentive. My business associate and I liked the menu's concept of entrees and sides in the Bento Box. You get to choose among a few entrees - we had salmon and sausage hash - both very good. Three sides come with the entree, they all sounded so good it was nice to be able to pick a few- beet farro salad, noodles and the pear salad were great. Ordered the goat cheese custard w/ shortbread crumbles - way too rich and not sure the shortbread crumbles went well with the custard. Also ordered dessert - berries/cream and chocolate mousse bombe - both were excellent! Great place!"

  • "Repeat trip to Cerulean and the food was again very good. Descriptions were accurate. Good variety. Fun combinations. I have never experienced such poor service before. Waited forever to even see a waiter then he totally forgot the drinks and never came back to check on us until we were finished. I'm writing it off as a bad day and will go again for the food and hope for a different waiter."

  • "1. it was probably good because I wasnt picking up the tab. If I was I probably wouldnt be back for the price. 2. Not as good as the Wynona lake location (no sushi, even though it would work well in this location)"

  • "Enjoyed having a semi-private room for our group of 8. I was happy to find gluten-free gnocchi on the menu and really enjoyed it. Unique dishes all well-prepared. Great service. Try the spiced chocolate ganache for dessert - Amazing!"

  • "Cerulean is very attractive/modern place about 6 blocks from Monument Circle. Food/flavors were creative and consistently delicious, and very well plated. Service was excellent and knowledgeable. My wife and I recommend it highly."

  • "Once again, we had an excellent lunch at Cerulean. The menu offers a break from the typical options and is a treat for the tastebuds with all the different flavor combinations."

  • "Everything we ate/drank was excellent; service could use tweaks. Our first visit, We were greated by Valet w/good evening gentlemen, I do have short hair, but not that short & I was wearing a dress. Hostess assumed we were w/group in front of us & although we stood directly in front of hostess stand smiling & waiting patiently we were not acknowledged for several mins. Service btwn courses was very slow, waited long time as well for wine & cocktail refills. Passed on dessert/coffee, went some where else, nothing really appealed to us & seemed a bit "fallish" still. When the bill came, noticed the waiter neglected to include $85 bottle of wine we ordered. To me that was a huge mistake & we could have just walked away but didn't."

  • "Other than the fact that we were seated very close to two other tables, and we were all aware of each others proximity and conversations, it was an absolutely wonderful dining experience. I would simply request a more private table for my next visit."

  • "My wife and I were staying at the Alexander and the Cerulean is in the same building although not part of the hotel. We had a late night dinner and the portion sizes were just right. We had their "Gluten Free Gnocchi" for an appetizer and it was great and a nice size for 2. For our main course my wife had the "Indiana Vegetables" and I took off 1 star for "Food" because it was definitely under seasoned and, surprisingly, when we asked for salt our waiter brought us a dish with salt in it and a teaspoon. Is having a salt shaker available now considered gauche? When seasoned properly, the vegetarian dish was good. My salmon with rum infused pineapple was fantastic. And we split a pumpkin parfait for dessert which was a great & unique finale."

  • "My wife and I celebrated her birthday at Cerulean. It was our first time there and it definitely lived up to our expectations. The interior design was nice but could use a few more soft surfaces to absorb some of the sound. It was quite noisy, but not so much so that we couldn't have a conversation. The food definitely was up to our expectations and I'd put it among the best in the city based on this visit. One thing that stood out was the service. Indy restaurants are lacking on the service side compared to higher-end restaurants in NY, San Francisco or Chicago. We were pleasantly surprised at our service; the pacing was perfect and our server wasn't intrusive but seemed to be there right at the perfect moment when we needed something."

  • "My group had great expectations. The food was acceptable, but not excellent. One of our group eats in fine restaurants across the world. She had a reservation for the following night, but after our experience, she canceled it. So, our experience was a bit disappointing."

  • "We love this place. We had an early dinner with our 4 year old son, they were very accommodating. Food and drinks were amazing, we would highly recommend this place. We have been here two times and both were wonderful experiences. Highly recommended, I am voting it in my top 3 favorite in INDY."

  • "I am reminded of my favorite yoga teacher when dining at Cerulean. Focusing on the present experience allows us to be fully connected. Abilities rooted in discerning levels of flavor and a patient palate are keys to making the most of your experience. Will return again and again. Lovely experience."

  • "I enjoyed a very special romantic lunch at Cerulean. I requested a cozy, private table and was easily and graciously accommodated in a very comfortable booth. Our server was friendly, informative, attentive, but not bothersome. He was knowledgable on the menu and made excellent suggestions. My date and I were very pleased with our meals. Loved the variety of the bento box concept. The food was flavorful, inventive, and fresh. We are looking forward to returning soon."

  • "My experience here was incredible. Their service was remarkable - I work in the service industry, and they were great. In addition, the food tasted delicious! I tried their duck breast and it was succulent and moist, and the flavor just seeped out with each bite! The atmosphere is quite pleasant, as well!"

  • "Cerulean's model is intended to be three course: shared small plate followed by individual medium plates and large plates. Simply put, the food is outstanding. We shared the salmon croquettes (you've never seen salmon chunks this big in this app staple), followed by foie gras and lamb sweetbreads, then ribeye and duck breast. Each were outstanding and our wine choices matched the meals well. That said, it probably took 30 minutes to get our final course and we weren't the only table to wait so long. Granted it was Saturday night but the gap really messed up the flow of the meal. Overall Cerulean is one of the best places to open in Indy of late so they may well be working out kinks but do give them a shot for a special occasion."

  • "Creative menu and knowledgeable server. Very enjoyable dining experience. More than just "dinner out". The only item that did not wow me was fois gras which turned out to be soft pate with faint flavor. Sablefish and pork chop were sublimely prepared and accompanied. Chocolate dessert touched on bizarre with avocado ice cream and chili but somehow disappeared entirely! Order boldly, be surprised."

  • "I had Sablefish and it just melted in my mouth. It was absolutely delicious! Maybe the best fish I've ever had! My hisband said his pheasant was outstanding as well. Both were presented beautifully. I had the scallops as an appetizer and my husband had the lobster pot pie and they were also amazing! We were very impressed and will definitely go back!"

  • "We have visited Cerulean more than 5 times now and every meal has truly been incredible...and I don't regularly feel that way about restaurants. Cerulean is simply different, everything is soo unique and sometimes, we haven't even a clue what it is...but somehow, they make EVERY single item they make taste absolutely fantastic. The fixed Valetine's meal had such glowing reviews that we tried it and WOW, it was the very best meal I've had in over a year, no kidding. We LOVE the Duck Pastrami so we added that to the dinner (MUST try!) for a little mix of what we loved and new items. Highly recommend for a unique, truly delicious dining experience! Whenever I refer people there, I just say TRUST the servers, try new things and it will be YUM!"

  • "We wanted to go somewhere for wine and appetizers, but wanted a sophisticated selection. Cerulean did not disappoint. We had Salmon Croquettes and Pork ??? with a wonderful red wine from Lebanon that paired perfectly with both dishes. Our server, Benjamin was wonderful- good suggestions, great timing and friendly."

  • "Over priced and pretentious. The food was cooked and spiced well, but not worth the $150.00 (before tip) we spent."

  • "We enjoyed everything about our Cerulean experience on Saturday night - from the warm greeting to the fun and professional service to the truly outstanding food and drinks! I had no idea before we sat down that I'd later be espousing the virtues of duck pastrami (a must try!), lobster pot pie and two completely different Malbec wines. Many thanks, Cerulean!"

  • "I was showing some potential new residents around Indianapolis. I wanted a quiet place to review and chat about what we had seen. Cerulean provided the perfect place for good food and quiet enough to chat. We were never rushed and the lunch menu was great. My only very small complaint was that the waiter was a little slow to come to the table after we were seated to introduce herself. This is just a small observation and did not distract from our meal or enjoyment of the restaurant in the least. I would highly recommend Cerulean for lunch."
