Diner Reviews
  • "My wife and I had tickets for the Kennedy Center at 7:30pm, and this restaurant conveniently starts dinner service at 5pm. Their prix fixe menu is outstanding and includes regular menu items. Food is absolutely delicious with generous portions, and waiters are very responsive. We will definitely go back to try out more menu items."

  • "My husband and I hugely enjoyed a delicious lunch at Central Michel Richard during a recent visit to Washington DC. The menu offers a good selection of classics with a modern twist and very good wine by the glass. I suspect it might be a bit too loud for us at dinner time but it was perfect for lunch."

  • "This was my second time here, so good! Although it's pricey, it's well worth it! My favorites are the frog legs and chicken schnitzel, but our group also had the fried chicken, scallops, oysters and bacon and onion tart. Everything was fabulous. Service was great, and if you go early enough good pre-theater deals. Book early!"

  • "Central has excellent pre-theater choices. I had a salmon with miso sauce that was perfectly cooked & seasoned. The Caesar's Salad not only was delicious, it was also artfully arranged with wedges of lettuce standing up instead of being strewn as is usually done; yet the cheese and sauce moistened it all very well. Desserts were large; both the cheesecake & Chocolate Lava Cake were both delicious. The wine by the glass choices were fine. We've been here before theater attendance often, and have been happy with either pre-theater choices or regular menu items."

  • "My overall dinning experience was excellent. The food was delicious, service attentive and ambiance attractive. I will eat here again and recommend it to others. "

  • "I just always have a great meal at Central. The fried chicken is nearly perfect. Very nice wine list -- especially white Bordeaux, white Burgundy."

  • "My wife and I had this restaurant on our "list" for several years. We finally made the time to go and were glad that we did. Our meal was outstanding. Of note was the fried chicken which was some of the best we had ever had. For desert, we would recommend the "candy bar.""

  • "the food was very good and well presented, nice flavors. The U.S. white wine was poor, two bottles not drinkable, but they took both back."

  • "Great bar and happy hour flow into nice dinner location. Food and service were excellent. Lamb burger was excellent."

  • "I ordered the lamb shank and could only eat about half bec it was so rich. I'm sure they would have packed it to take home, but it would have been out of refrigeration too long. Good waiter. Attentive service. We asked for a quiet table and got one of the few they have...in the back. Not many inexpensive wines but we liked our choice of a $40. malbec."

  • "The food was horrible. The mussels had no flavor. The schnitzel was like a flat chicken nugget. I would not eat here again."

  • "The food in this Resturant was excellent but the noise level was not conducive for conversation."

  • "Food presentations are as artistic as the dishes are delicious --a lady at the next table photographed Michel's spectacular Napoleon before diving in! We had the 3-course pre-theater menu with an amazing and magically presented ceasar salad, fabulous mussels with divine broth for sopping with the fresh crusty bread, and an enormously delicious cheesecake swirled with picture-perfect berries. Best $35 deal in town, including 4-5 choices right off the regular menu! It was my second visit and it won't be my last,"

  • "I'm a fan of Chef Richard and I was not disappointed. I started off with the beet and goat cheese salad, which was exceptional...and then moved on to the steak with the onion carbonara...if you haven't tried his onion carbonara do....WOW! The chocolate bar dessert was the perfect finish to my meal."

  • "I come to Central often for business dinners and lunch. The atmosphere is just right - not too fancy or too ordinary. Food is terrific - especially if you like sea food, for which they are known. They have specials every night - don't miss the Lobster Americaine if it is on the menu - outstanding! The appetizers can be shared or, are an excellent lunch on their own if you are not too hungry. Wine list is also very good as are wines by the glass. A winner all around!"

  • "Wonderfully tender pork chop with tiny brussels sprouts and pommes noisette -- perfect. Recommend the creme brulee, great eye appeal and delicious. Staff is always gracious without being intrusive."

  • "Great food but cleared our dishes too quickly and seemed anxious for us to leave."

  • "We chose of the pre theater menu for our meal. The menu primarily has French classics. We enjoyed the goat cheese Caesar (cheese must be mixed well into the dressing, it wasn't a separate component), mussels, frogs legs, hub cap sized schnitzel, chocolate mousse, and sorbets. Whew, we were very full! They were having a special to add black truffles to dishes for an up charge and since the pre theater menu is so reasonably priced we splurged and had truffles added to the schnitzel. All the food was exquisitely prepared and we had a delightful waitress who made sure we were able to leave a the time we said we needed to leave by in order to make it to our show. I next want to return to try some of the other items on the full menu."

  • "Central was one of the best restaurants we ever ate in. I live in NY and have lived in Italy. This place had so many delicious dishes, it is almost worth going back to DC just to eat there. Loved the cheese puffs, the outstanding lobster bisques, oysters rockerfeller and the best fried chicken ever. Service was also great. Go there and enjoy."

  • "Exactly what you'd expect from a James Beard award winning kitchen. From start to finish, a fantastic meal."

  • "A favorite lunch spot for DC, with excellent food, friendly service, knowledgeable bar tenders. The chef takes restaurant "standards" like lobster bisque to entirely new levels of delicious. Salad lovers should try the chicken salad... diced chicken, potatoes and mixed greens and other veggies.... goat cheese ceasar salad... the hangar steak, fried chicken, and oh, that wonderful corned beef sandwich! Cheese puff appetizers absolutely melt into cheesey goodness in your mouth. Try the cheese and mushroom sandwich... oh just go back and try everything! There are no misses here...."

  • "Going for lunch is an opportunity to have a three course meal at a very reasonable price. They rotate the lunch specials so if you go often, you have a chance to try many of the menu options at a great price!"

  • "Different entree, same result: Freakin delicious. It's clear that every item on Central's menu is tried and true. Everything I've had there is just right, every time. This latest time I had the Jambalaya and my wife had the fried chicken and mashed potatoes. Both were some of the best we've had anywhere. Highly recommend this restaurant."

  • "The food was unbelievalble. The prime rib melted in my mouth; the green beans were the best I have ever had and the baked potato was not like a normal baked potato. I think all the ingredients were fresh. The wait staff was superb; they were constantly attentive without hovering. Our son had given us a gift card for Christmas and we went there for my birthday. Best birthday dinner I have had in 68 years. I have already glowingly recommended Central to all my friends. The prices are a little steep but it is worth it. I would give you ten stars out of five!"

  • "We had a great anniversary dinner Saturday. Charcuterie plate was plenty for the two of us. Then we had frogs legs (great), fried chicken (pretty good) and chopped salad. Dessert of profiteroles was delicious. They were out of our first wine selection. Waitress was helpful but too busy and we were left on our own to pour when the wine finally came. Lively and quite loud but a very good evening"

  • "I loved this place for a special occasion with a smaller group. We each ordered very different dishes and were all pleased with our meals. I will definitely return again to try more of the menu options. We were celebrating a birthday and the hostess was accommodating in allowing us to change the number of guests (frequently) leading up to the occasion, as well as the wait staff for being attentive to surprising the birthday boy with a sparkling dessert as a finale to our meal."

  • "One of my got-to DC restaurants. Always reliable: casual; good food; good service. Must book in advance; try the meatloaf, chicken, chhese-puffs, and lobster-burger. Good local beer selection."

  • "I went to Central with a couple of friends for an early dinner before catching a show at Ford's theater. They have a pre-theater menu which is a great bargain. We opted to choose off the full menu to have more options. Started off with a hurricane from the bar. Great drink! Had the lobster special the night I was there and it wasn't really a "Wow" especially for the price. Dessert was the real stand out. I had the banana macarons. Delicious!! My friends, who are confessed chocoholics, had the chocolate bar (it was like a very fancy kit kat with chocoalte pearls and chocolate suace) and the chocolate lava cake. Apparently between those two, the chocolate bar was the hands-down winner. I'd definitely recommend Central for a pre-theater meal."

  • "I dined here on Monday evening and it was my first time at Central. Upon entering, the restaurant had a relaxed but chic vibe. Our server quickly greeted us and recommended a drink called The Cyclone which was delicious and strong. For dinner, my friend ordered the lamb burger with fries; she enjoyed her burger and I loved her fries. I chose the short ribs which were a bit on the fatty side but the syrah & ale sauce was excellent. For dessert, I got Michel's Chocolate Bar and if you like chocolate, this is the dessert for you. It was amazing and so was the scoop of ice cream with it. I wasn't sure why the ice cream came with it but it didn't matter, it was excellent. Overall, good but I would order something else for dinner next time."
