Diner Reviews
  • "This isn't a fine dining restaurant as they try to make it appear on the web site. However, it is a reasonably good hotel restaurant. If you don't want to venture out from the hotel, the food is decent, though a bit overpriced (as with any hotel restaurant.) Sitting on the patio near the pool was nice in the evening. Service was excellent. The waitstaff was friendly and prompt. When my friend didn't like her drink they were very cordial about swapping it out for another one. We sat and talked for a long time after dinner and they were polite and didn't rush us, saying they were in no hurry themselves. They brought us free desert (probably to avoid end-of-night waste) and kept refilling our water. Good if you don't care to leave hotel."

  • "went to friday nite seafood buffet. the selection extensive, beautifully displayed and extremely good. everything was very fresh. service is warm and welcoming. one of our favorite restaurants in the desert since it's quiet, spacious with delicious food."

  • "Patio fine dining on cheap patio furnitue that would be used at poolside, Really that disappointing. Servers who didn't know what Presco italian wine was in a fine dining , Really Late salads and main course served together. Visable large bight rooftop lights reflecting down to the dining areas."

  • "Everything on the menu sounded delicious on paper. Food was underwhelming. I had the Kobe burger and my 9 year old son had the BBQ burger, My wife had the mushroom soup and turkey sandwich and lastly my daughter had the grill cheese from the children's menu. Most of the food was left uneaten after only a few bites. The french fry's were cold and soggy. The meat for the hamburgers was over cooked and dry, despite being order medium rare. Expecting better. Overall value for the lunch was not there. In contrast we ate at the Italian restaurant Sirocco the next evening. Service was attentive, and the food delicious. Despite being three times the cost of lunch, we would return to Sirocco."

  • "Loved the outdoor seating. It has a lovely view of the pool and mountains. We were a large group (13 people) and they took wonderful care of us. The food and service was excellent. I would recommend the Cava for a relaxing and enjoyable experience."

  • "Restaurant served our needs admirably. Service was especially good, and the feel and look of the resort were first-rate."

  • "The waitress was awesome! She was very patient and attentive to the adults AND the kids. She dived under the table to get dropped crayons and ran to the back to replace dropped utensils. My son felt very special and grown up by the way the waitress treated him. He and his friend really enjoyed themselves--- therefore, the adults enjoyed themselves too. The prime rib was a bit tough, but everything else was perfect. The restaurant reflects the kid friendly atmosphere of the resort."

  • "I was so looking forward to there Sunday Brunch on Mother's Day. The atmosphere was that of a cheap cafeteria - not that of a $50 brunch. The food was not very good and we were never told that Champagne was not included like most brunches have included that are this expensive. So you can imagine our surprise when we got our bill from a meal that was not so good, with an atmosphere that was really terrible, with no music at all and ugly decor (green carpets and white walls). They only thing we enjoyed was the Mimosas and that doubled our bill. We will NEVER go back! JW Marriott is less money, better atmosphere, better food and includes Champagne like it should be on a Sunday Brunch. Don't waste your money folks!"

  • "The juice bar and omelet station were th highlights! We will be coming back for Sunday brunch in hopes of trying some desserts!"

  • "This is a restaurant which offers good food and great room service, but is not a destination restaurant. It is for the hotel guests. I wouldn't go out of my way to come to it. The seafood buffet... perhaps we are spoiled, was not, in my opinion, anything of great accolade. Like omelettes in the morning, it is risotto in the evening and offers shrimp. Otherwise, some salmon and mahi mani, both somewhat dry, and on the cold buffet, peel 'n eat shrimp and king crab. Again Cava is a convenience for hotel guests not wanting to venture out for dinner."

  • "we went on friday nite to try the seafood buffet. on the way to our table, our waiter, cory, showed us the buffet and what being served that evening. everything from the salads to the cerviche to the plank salmon to the calamari were beautifully presented. they exceeded our expectations in flavor & freshness. my only regret is that i waited until after dinner to try the desserts. they looked fantastic and tasted better than they looked. the little apple pie's were really good but the chocolate mousse cake was so light it was like eating a cloud and the chocolate fountain with huge, sweet strawberries could be a meal all on it's own. despite past ups & downs right now cava is at it's best and should be tried."

  • "Excellent resort restaurant. Dinner was excellent and had a seafood buffet in the evening. The morning breakfast buffet is amazing and I would highly recommend not leaving the resort for breakfast."

  • "After having been crushed into another restaurant the previous evening, our experience at Cava was a pleasant change. The service was excellent, the food outstanding and despite the fact that the restaurant was anticipating a large number of people following a lecture presentation, the meal was paced exactly right. Starting with the bread (absolutely delicious!), the appetizer, the entree - we were never rushed through our meal. Everything arrived as ordered, piping hot and greatly exceeded our expectation of "hotel dining". Our food was wonderfully delicious and presented very, very well. I would definitely make the effort to visit again on our next trip to Palm Springs! Well done!"

  • "It's a 3- meal- a -day restaurant in a resort, so you get a bit of everybody and everything. breakfast is quite good--lots of choices."

  • "We had the Christmas Buffet. Food was very good. We loved the cold seafood selection. Only issue was the King Crab legs which were small in size and looked more like regular crab legs. All the other seafood selections made up for it. The pasta station could of had a white and red sauce choice. The ccarving station was excellent. We would return next Christmas."

  • "Unless you are eating there because you booked a room including breakfast, don't. Obnoxiously expensive, and the service was mediocre. And the stench that permeates from the overly chlorined pool next door, is overwhelming."

  • "This is a real find! First, it is in the Renaissance Esmeralda Resort by the pool area, and it has a beautiful view. Second, the food is wonderful! It is cooked to perfection. I had a 6oz Filet Mignon and it was great. Third, the price can't be beat! For that prme meal, I paid 19.95. With that, comes a salad, coffee and desert. All with good, friendly service! Try it You will like it!"

  • "Went here for Easter Sunday with kids. $42/person was an expcetional deal and compared to Lakeview at the JW, this is a far better price and better experieince. The only donwside was the 18% gratuity that is included in the final bill. I felt this was very high for the level of service we received. Not that the service was bad, in fact, it was very good, but for 18% (full service) charge, I think this is a downside."

  • "The Easter Brunch was great. Usually buffet's are run of the mill, but the selections and taste was high end. The service was out standing, plates cleared, drinks refilled, friendly servers ! Sitting outside and watching everyone enjoying the pool, this is what Palm Springs / Indian Wells is all about."

  • "Our waiter was very friendly and he took our order and brought our food and drinks pretty quickly. The problem came at the end when we waited 20 minutes to hail him down to brings us our check, waited to then get the check, and then waited again for him to bring back the credit card. It is one thing to wait for food if there is a busy kitchen, it is most frustrating when you have to wait to give the restaurant your money. One of my biggest pet peeves at a restaurant is to be made to wait to pay. It is what I remember about the place since it is the last thing to do before leaving. The quietness of the restaurant was a pleasant surprise. We had a big group and we could all talk to each other and hear. Very nice. Food was ok."

  • "Celebrated a friends 40th birthday here, before heading to the hotels nightclub. This is a great place to have a pre-dinner drink (vibrant bar scene), good dinner, and go dancing after - it's all in one! Restaurant itself was VERY quiet, there were only a few other tables besides ours. The staff was very attentive, they had a buffet special that night and all the food was so delicious. They even helped us avoid the nighclub line and gave us extra fress passes. Thanx Cava, for helping to make our night great! :)"

  • "Cava overlooks the beautiful pool and mountains from the Renaissance Esmeralda Resort. We had a window table with the best view in the house. It was too hot to sit outside, otherwise we would have chosen an out door table. The food was good American comfort food. We asked for special modified preparations of sea bass and salmon, which were graciously accommodated. The service was very friendly and excellent. There are attractive price fixed dinner options that are quite reasonable, although we ordered other choices that were priced on the high side. We had a terrific breakfast buffet there the next morning and sat out doors!"

  • "Much better than we thought a Hotel restaurant would be! We really did enjoy our meals there both breakfast and dinners. Wines were a bit on the pricy side."

  • "It was kind of quiet the night we ate there, was great for a night of conversation. Food was good and our waiter Dan, was fantastic!"
    Dined on 8/7/2011
  • "Wines way too expensive. Had high hopes for food after the chicken quesadilla apetizer, but it was downhill from there. The steak was overcooked and fatty and the fries were soggy, probably from the steak sitting on top. The dessert (a family recipe) was uneatable. We were there for restaurant week so the price was right at $24/person but the regular menu was too expensive. Might give the outdoor patio a try for an overpriced breakfast, but won't have dinner there again."

  • "We were unfamiliar with the entire setting etc. We actually opted to switch to the Sirrocco and cancelled Cava. We were looking for a more quiet evening meal after a long trip. Cava was running with children as in a poolside atmosphere and granted it was a late time frame. My final impression of Cava for us was "the right place at the wrong time". Sirocco was a very good alternative at the Renaissance for us. Thank you."
