  • "What an excellent little find! Buried Treasure! We totally enjoyed the ambience. We snuck in the back door and - having made reservations - were shown to our 'booth' right away. Greeted right away by our waiter, and were presented with a glass of champagne and a smile with well wishes to mark the celebration. We felt very special. The manager also came to our table and wished us well, and made suggestions for our entrees. I am gluten free, and the menu was outstanding, with the chef being most amenable to making some substitutions. We thoroughly enjoyed our evening, our waiter Dean was very attentive. We both left with a feeling of having had a special evening indeed."

  • "My wife and I went to Catch for their "big taste" menu this past weekend. Not only was the food really top notch, but the service was impeccable. Because of food intolerance, we had some difficulty with a couple of dishes on the menu. Rather than simply saying we couldn't have that menu (which has occasionally been the cast at other establishments), the wait staff and kitchen were incredibly accommodating in making substitutions for us. As a result we had a wonderful experience, and a terrific dinner. Add the lovely ambiance of the space in this sandstone heritage building, and you have a must-do dining experience! Highly recommended."

  • "Recently moved to Calgary and haven't fancied the food yet (wasn't a fan of Catch, Blink, Una, which I know are three big favourites here). Though the scallop soup was fantastic, the cod and casouellete lacked flavour. The duck ravioli, which was introduced as the restaurant's best appetizer, was okay. Great service and atmosphere, but not the burst of complex flavours I enjoy."

  • "My husband and I had a very nice dining experience at Catch for the Big Taste; the five courses were a soba noodle salad- nice fresh taste, celeriac chowder- exquisitely smooth and lovely, braised duck ravioli- different but good, ling cod with herbs on cassoulet- very nicely done, and dessert which included brownie cakes and brown sugar ice cream- to die for!! Our servers were spot on...thank you Catch!"

  • "This was our first time at Catch Upstairs after hearing about the restaurant from many of our friends. We were very pleased with the decor of the dining area and even more so with the private four table room away from the main seating which made the experience even more intimate. The "wall of wines" gave the area a special feel. The preparation and plating of our meals were done to perfection. Portion size was perfect, not so much that we left full and not to small that left us wanting more. We each tried different seafood dishes and thought the flavours were perfect with both. Service was excellent. The young lady who took care of us could not have been better. Will definitely be back and ask for her again."

Oysters to start (of course), my wife had the scallop dish, and I had the butter poached lobster. While Valentine's day is notoriously a busy night for restauranteurs we felt the timing of our food, and the demeanor of the staff to both be perfect. Thank you!"

  • "Went out for Valentines day dinner with my wife and we love seafood, this was the first time we went there and had an overall awesome experience. The only thing that went a bit off during the night was that they brought my wife's dinner plate with a bit too much salt, but replaced it right away upon us mentioning that to the waiter and the dish was great after!"

  • "We have been to the Catch Upstairs many times and have been very satisfied with the food. We were a bit disappointed this time. I ordered the octopus for appetizer and the Sable fish for main. The octopus was too salty. The Sable fish was great but the vegetables that accompanied the fish was also too salty. I let the waiter know about the octopus and he was very kind to take it off the bill. We had a great evening though."

BUT you cannot have a wine list and not have the wine that's on it AND THEN try to pass off a different bottle of wine as the same when it isn't. Perhaps people do t check the wine they but at a restaurant but I'm glad I do. Other than the "attempted wine fraud" we had a great night."

  • "Our food was quite good, the appetizers were the best (the octopus was good, but too salty). Our dinner took a long time to come out, and when it did they were both warm, not hot. When done our dinner, it took almost 10 mins for our plates to be cleared. It was good food, but for the price, we had higher expectations for overall quality."

  • "This used to be my favourite restaurant in town. Somehow they revamped their menu trying to do something more trendy? Well, I found it terrible. Especially the delicious buttered poached lobster...the flavour of it destroyed by fried big onion rings??? And worse than that: the delicacy of such a plate overwhelmed by a slice of greasy oily bread dipped in a tomato sauce that reminded me of the worst "marinara" sauce you get in cheap pizzas...for the rest of the night I had that bad taste in my mouth instead of the lobster....and I just had a tiny bite of it to see what was it like. Very bad. Go back to the original preparation guys. Seriously. Good wine list. Good service."

  • "We booked at Catch for my birthday after hearing great things about the food and service it was just as promised! Once shown to our beautiful table our friendly french waiter (Yves I think...) arrived to tell us the featured dish and look after our every need. The feature sounded so mouthwatering but tasted better! My partner had the Ling Cod which was also out of this world. Yves wine knowledge was excellent and helped us pick a great match to our dishes. Romantic but never stuffy i would highly recommend Catch!"

  • "Great night! Great service! Great food! Having grown up by the coast I was worried about not getting my seafood fix after moving to Calgary thanks to discovering Catch I will worry no more! The Scallop dish we shared to start was so fresh and delicate and beautifully presented. The butter poached lobster was divine as entree, so fresh I felt like I was at the coast again! Our waiter was friendly and knowledgeable Irish man who's wine suggestions were informative but never intrusive. We will be back very soon!"

  • "Despite the great wine list, this "upscale seafood restaurant" under-delivered in quality, service and value for money. The oysters were the redeeming feature of the seafood tower. However, the crustaceans had the texture and flavour of thawed seafood. The dining table in the booth was 4 inches too high to be comfortable and the bench was saggy and worn out. This restaurant needs a gross makeover. As a native Calgarian, dining with a friend from Australia, the experience was an embarrassment."

Everything changed when I went back to this resturant 2 days ago from decor to food and I am sorry to say this, but Catch upstairs has really went down hill. I would not come back again.
