A word from Castagna
Castagna serves as a clean, calm, modern canvas on which to showcase an artful presentation of food; a series of tastes that elevate the senses and reinterpret local cuisine. Executive Chef Justin Woodward imagines an edible landscape where diners become part of a cycle of abundance: not only tasting, but feeling, smelling, hearing, seeing, and, ultimately, understanding the food.

Chef Woodward offers two tasting menus each night. Diners can choose between a 5 course menu or explore the 10 course Chef’s Tasting Menu. A la cart and vegetarian options are also available.

The 10 course Chef's Tasting Menu for parties of 4 or less is available until 9pm. We offer our 10 course Chef's Tasting Menu for larger parties on request.

Vegetarian Tasting Menus available with 24 hours advanced notice.

If I had the money, my husband and I would come back again and again. You'll try things you never even knew you could eat or would have dreamed would taste good. I loved every single thing we ate. We chose the chefs tasting and wine pairing, so after all was said and done the bill was $440 with tip, but I'd say it was worth it. Don't know if I will go again, but it was a great one time find for sure."

  • "Castagna serves beautifully plated food that is inventive and unique. We ordered the chef's tasting menu, which included around 20 separate small dishes. Servers do an excellent job explaining dishes and are very attentive. While the food is exquisite to look at and expertly prepared, my husband and I found that the chef's palate did not entirely align with our own and some of the flavor combinations presented were not to our liking, including several dishes that we simply could not bear to finish. We typically enjoy unique food and flavor combinations, but some dishes just were not for us. The desserts were truly the shining stars of our meal and were all beyond outstanding. I wish the rest of the meal had been as delicious."

  • "Did not ecpect to find a restaurant like this in Portland. Very creative and delicious tasting menu. Great wine pairings - 12 different wines with decent pours. The dinner service was slow paced, but not dragged out, so you had time to enjoy all of the various wines. Service was very attentive and most all of the courses very tasty - almost one half of the menu was raw - a bit more than our usual taste, but overall outstanding!"

Onion terrarium with peas was especially interesting and showcased the chef's preferences for interesting sauces (several were added to the plate by servers as courses presented). Food was delicious and service level and timing of the dishes was excellent. Occasion was a graduation celebration and just what we wanted to please two vegetarians in our party. Highly recommended."

Dishes that made us happy: imaginative, and technically at the highest level, but never "clever" for the sake of it. Castagna is a very good restaurant indeed, right up there with some of the best restaurants we've visited in N. America and Europe. In a different location we'd be discussing the appropriate number of Michelin stars. But -- because it is where it is -- it's still easy to get a reservation. Do it! (Note for visitors to Portland: Castagna is easy to reach from the city centre using bus number 14)."

  • "Castagna is elegantly casual and relaxed.We chose the Prix Fixe menu with wine pairings. Each wine beautifully complimented the dish and a couple were really happy surprises. How do they do those lovely roasted beet cups that hold the most subtle and flavorful cured beef? A little sprig of nasturtium gave a piquant note to soft and smooth flavors and textures. Presentations are small. And there are enough so we felt nicely satisfied and definitely well cared for. Wait staff was attentive, friendly and unobtrusive. They were obviously aware of our timing. The flow of the dinner was timed to our timing not on the restaurants schedule. We closed the place down and when we left, it felt like we had just left a good friend's house."

Even though there are so many courses (like maybe 20 if you include the opening snacks), the meal was perfectly paced. Yes, you will be there for perhaps four hours, but it sure doesn't feel like it. Excellent wine list as well as cocktails. Do it! Go on a culinary adventure!"

  • "My parents and I did the prix fixe sampling menu, and it was absolutely fantastic. Everything we ate was delicious and interesting, very modern. My personal favorites were the chantarelle mushroom course done multiple ways, and the beet chip with steak tartare inside it. The service was a little slow, but the meal was leisurely and enjoyable. I will say, however, that for a pretty intimate dining room, the sound was not dampened properly and it was a little noisy. I would love to return, though, and will be recommending it to anyone who crosses my path."

The staff was professional, attentive and low key. My wife and I agreed the food experience (not so much the ambience) was reminiscent of a meal we'd had at Bouley in NYC last November. Also, as recent transplants from Seattle, Castagna reminds us that the Seattle vs Portland debate over "best restaurant city" is still alive and well!"
