Diner Reviews
  • "Every time I have had dinner at Cascal, the food has been tasty, staff friendly and enjoyed the ambience (inside or outside)."

  • "As usual, the food at Cascal is fantastic, but the service is embarrassing. Hostesses are cute but lack poise, organization, and communication skills. I received a call to confirm my reservation only three hours prior to the designated time during the workday. Made a special request which was ignored rather than politely declined or accommodated, and the hostess lacked the poise to hide her irritation when I reiterated the request. (Incidentally, do not let them seat you in the outdoor tables closest to the sidewalk on the corner as they are horribly exposed to the wind, and if it's even slightly cold the heaters will do you no good.) Must have had at least four different waiters who never once asked us if we wanted refills on our drinks."

  • "What a great spot for food and music. While the food is constantly excellent, the latin/cuban jazz inspired music the last few Saturdays has been sensational. Enjoy!"

  • "We went the tapas route and had a wonderful variety of dishes. In every dish there was a freshness and flavor that was a treat to eat. The crab and shrimp tostaditos was my favorite. We also enjoyed the wild mushroom empanadas, the Mexican gorditas and the churrasco. The service was friendly and helpful. Great anniversary dinner!"

  • "Cascal is great. There are wonderful sounding lunch specials, but I usually have tapas. The menu is varied and everythiing is good. This time I shared 3 tapas and a salad with a friend. The salad was super, with hearts of palm, fennel and oranges. Then we had a yummy chili relleno. If you like melted cheese, you will love it. It was a bit spicy, but not too hot. Then we had a baked eggplant tower with tomato and cheese that was savory and delicious, followed by four of the best scallops you could imagine in a buttey broth with a hint of soy. We had to drop the bread in the sauce, which the waiter said was a must. I can't wait to go back. My friend said she found her new favorite place."

  • "Food and service were excellent, as always - the noise level is more than energetic at times but understandable as this place starts buzzing even before 5:30pm, and it should be! The tapas we had (lamb enchilladas, chicken, churrasco, mushroom empanadas) were scrumptious, but my favorite dish are the Spanish potatoes with harissa salsa - not your every day fries!"

  • "Excellent service, nice tapas, great quality, ambiance, their emphinadas, paellas are always consistently enjoyable"

  • "The place was hopping and most tables were already full at 5:30 on a Wednesday evening. We shared orders of beef taquitos and Cuban black beans and rice. The taquitos were fairly spicy, perhaps not a good choice if you favor mild flavors. Beans and rice were really good. My wife ordered Pescado Marbella from the tapas menu. Fantastic! The Serrano ham that it was cooked with was a very nice addition. I ordered Peruvian ceviche, which was very good. With a cocktail and several glasses of wine (at happy hour prices), the overall bill was only about $60. Service was a bit slow, but that was probably because it was pretty busy. It was still busy at 9:00 that night."

  • "We were a table of five people and it was really hard to talk because of the noise level. We sat inside and it was really loud. The food and service were top notch as always!"

  • "My brother and his wife were visiting from Indianapolis, and I chose Cascal for its novel and tasty cuisine. My only disappointment was the watermelon salad failed to reach the pinnacle achieved some time ago when it also include shaved radish. We had a combination of tapas and paella, and they were all good. The sauces with the shrimp croquettes and the Moroccan meatballs were outstanding. The other thing that was outstanding was the service. Our waiter was both helpful and efficient, although it did look like he was pretty busy. This was a Monday evening, and I had expected a light crowd. That was wrong! Our Open Table reservation was essential, and most of the evening there was a wait for tables. That is a popular vote."

  • "We thoroughly enjoyed sangria and tapas outdoors before a performance at the Mountain View Center for Performing Arts. Park once, close and convenient, with a fun ambiance and good food."

  • "Been here a number of time, and they never disappoint. Love the tapas selection. Outdoor seating is fun & popuar"

  • "The food was good and the service even better. It is a bit noisy, so not good for detailed meetings"
    Dined on 6/12/2014
  • "Every dish was delicious, the sangria was perfect, and sitting outside on a beautiful afternoon was delightful. We have eaten here several times, both in and out of doors, with and without children, and it has been very tasty every time, with a great atmosphere and attentive staff."

  • "The tapas were great, with a large selection of creative dishes. The flamenco guitar player on Sunday afternoon was the perfect accompaniment to the food and wine."

  • "Not as good as it was several years ago. Relatively poor value for your dollar. Servers are mechanical and unfriendly. Too many of the small plates are greasy and unhealthy. Over-priced drinks, with skimpy pours."

  • "I've been to Cascal quite a few times - mainly for business lunches. I enjoy the food but the atmosphere is LOUD. Very LOUD. It makes having a lunch meeting a little challenging and that's why I typically go a little earlier to avoid the peak noise. In addition, following typical Spanish tradition, service is slow and lumpy. Sometimes it is quicker than others. So expect this as a "feature" when planning a lunch meeting. However, I've been lucky and my guests have always enjoyed the food and left happy. That's the main reason for coming back."

  • "Fantastic as always. Great food. Great Service. Will be back soon."

  • "The food was pleasant and the drinks were good. On the negative side, the service was frantically fast and the noise level was intolerable. It was not a relaxing meal. The service was very rushed. It felt like a fast food joint - move 'em in and move 'em out. They didn't wait until you finished a dish before serving the next dish. We were still eating when the check was presented. It was all about turning the table and not about enjoying a pleasant meal. Not a repeat unless you like to gulp down your meal and eat on the run."

  • "I get the same dishes everytime and usually throw in one or two new things to try. Brought a few friends for the first time and ended up being embarrassed by the dishes I previously said were "amazing". Consistency is very much lacking. Short ribs were so incredibly dry and even the salsa tasted horrible and 100% different from times before. Not sure I will visit again since this seems to have turned into a "hope we get lucky" type if place. "

  • "Came here to celebrate my graduation since I knew the food was good, it was kid-friendly and has a great atmosphere. It's always exciting to pass around the small tapas that everyone else ordered! Must mention the wonderful sangria too!"

  • "If you are looking for a consistently reliable tapas restaurant (with good paella as well!) I strongly recommend Cascal. The ambience is festive and the food is flavorful. Can't think of anything I wouldn't recommend. I love the garlic shrimp, the coconut scallop ceviche, as well as the octopus salad. "

  • "We enjoyed Cascal very much. Reccently went to another Spanish Tapas in the City and it didn't compare. I like the Tres Leches cake but wished it didn't have a fruit drizzle over it, very bitter. "

  • "What a well-thought out menu-tapas outstanding! Excellent cocktails that complimented the food. Would recommend sharing to give a wide range of dishes. Look forward to a return to try more tapas!"

  • "Cascal logged my reservation, made for the 21st, on their calendar for the 28th. Thus, when I arrived, they had no record of the reservation, and only found it on their books for the 28th by doing a telephone number search. They were very pleasant, however, and found me a table for my party of four, outside. That turned out to be fine, as their over-head heaters provided enough warmth to make dining pleasant. Service otherwise was a bit catch-as-catch-can; we called a server over several times for various services, as we had theater tickets and a time constraint. Menu was interesting; food was beautifully presented, moderately palatable."

  • "This place gets crowded pretty quickly and is a good place for HH and dinner. It offers HH until 6.30, the food is nothing exceptional but average. It offers live Latin music on Fri and Sat nights. Fun place to relax and catch up with friends."

  • "Amazing food for people who love to share. We had the delicious sangria and three delicious small plates. So much fun sharing and sampling the waitresses recommendations. "

  • "Cascal is a great place to have small plates and a glass of wine, especially at lunch at the outside tables. It's just a few blocks away from the bustle of the main downtown area of Mountain View's Castro Street. The shrimp and crab tostadas are excellent."

  • "Perfect for grazing the evening away on acres of tapas with a group of friends. In hot weather, getting a table outside and a jug of sangria is strongly recommended. :)"

  • "We went as a party of 4 and sat outside on the patio. Normally it's a great place to sit except it was rather windy on this particular day and we were plagued with pollen causing coughing fits in 3 out of 4 of us. We have gone there before and sat outdoors and it was great. Just caution against it if it's a windy day. Other than that our experience was excellent so we are willing to overlook Mother Nature's antics. "

  • "We went to Cascal for the first time on Saturday night, and we will definitely be back! Their menu was so full of interesting and unusual dishes and drinks. We ordered three kinds of tapas and the Gazpacho Andalucia, Pescado Marbella made with halibut, the Cuban wrap, and Pollo Andalucia. All were superb. We enjoyed a specialty margarita and their house sangria. Both were deliciously fruity and fresh. The decor is colorful, casual with class. The service was professional and friendly. The atmosphere was lively with the younger techie crowd, families and middle aged people like me. All, enjoying their dining experience at Cascal. "

  • "We usually have a wonderful meal here, but this last time we had a surly server. Food and drinks were good, ambiance was good, our friends enjoyed the evening, but our server was scowling and surly; never smiled once. "

  • "Reservation is a must if you want to have dinner at Cascal but if you want to try the food but not bother with reservation, you will have better luck going there for lunch. Same menu for both lunch and dinner. Try the Empanada and any seafood tapas they are great. "

  • "Great food - nothing you eat here will disappoint you. Love the albondigas (meat balls), the chicken+rice on banana leaf, croquettes, empanadas, calamari and the list goes on. Their Sangria is great as well. "
