A word from Carmine's Restaurant - DC
Carmine’s is a family style, value-driven restaurant concept with locations in NYC, NJ, Nassau Bahamas, and Washington DC. Restaurateur Artie Cutler created Carmine’s with one goal in mind: to open a restaurant that would serve every meal in the style of an Italian American wedding feast, featuring extra large portions of home-style antipasto, pastas, seafood and meat entrees served on extra large platters designed for sharing. Carmine’s is the perfect place to casually enjoy friends and family over great food and wine, with excellent service, the way it used to be at grandma’s house.Continued

  • "My son and I loved it. First time there. the Family style of serving the food is excellent and portions are over the top. Definitely going back."

  • "My wife and I have routinely made time during our trips to Manhattan for Carmines. We were very excited to find Carmines in our back yard! We ended up very disappointed! First, we had reservations for 7 PM. When we arrived at 6:50 PM, we were told that there would be a 1 hour wait. When I asked about the reservation, I was told that "they are just a convenience." When I asked to speak to the manager, he said that he would attempt to expedite my table. They did set up a new table for us. Unfortunately, it appears that they set it up in an isle. Every employee that passed by banged into us and made a comment about our table being in their way. We saw our waiter just twice the entire night. Took our order and gave us our bill. POOR!"

  • "Carmine's is great Italian restaurant. Warning, always take someone to split with, the portions are huge and more aligned to family style dining. Had the calamari, large portion and the price was on the high side as well. Ordered a salad with it, and it was fresh with appropriate ingredients, nothing spectacular, but it was good. Since it is a bit pricey, it is better suited to special event or gatherings where you can benefit from the large portions by splitting."

  • "The good was really good, but way too much!. The only way I would go back is if I had a group of 4 or more. If they would change it to normal size proportions, I would go back regularly."

  • "I come to DC about once every 3 months for business and pleasure. We always make I a point to come to Carmine's. I was recently there with family for spring break and we went there twice for dinner because it as so good. You get amazing portions and can definitely feed a crowd. I've gone with one other person and we've been able to order a half portion. The spaghetti and meatballs are the absolute best! Recommend to anyone! The atmosphere is great. You almost expect to see Frank Sinatra sitting at a table next to you! "

  • "I had a reservation at 6PM; we arrived at 10 minutes to 6 and waited until 5 after 6 to be seated. We noticed almost immediately that the server assigned to our table was overwhelmed serving several tables with 5 or more people. After waiting for awhile, our server came by to take our drink orders and explain the menu to us as we were 1st time diners. After about another 8 or 9 minutes our drink orders came and we ordered our entrée. Bread was brought to the table, but when I asked for some olive oil I got two bottles of Balsamic and no oil. We then waited 55 minutes for our entrees to arrive, only to be met with way under done pasta, over cooked chicken scaloppini, wonderful sautéed spinach and the most wonderful lemon cream sauce. "

  • "Title says it all. Had reservation and took a half hour to be seated. Food was descent but disappointing given the NY restaurants were better in almost every way. If I'm in DC again I would look elsewhere for good Italian for the family."

  • "...For 2 main reasons: we could hear each other, and we did not feel the wait staff was hovering around us or rushing us out, even though the restaurant was extremely busy. The waiters were friendly without being intrusive; for the most part the food was excellent; my only complaint (and I have to be realistic in my expectations of gluten-free options from a restaurant like Carmine's) is that I'd eaten there a year ago and had DELICIOUS chicken scallopine w/ sauteed spinach, and they didn't bread the chicken. This time I was told the chicken comes already breaded so they couldn't do that. They do have GF options, including pastas, but my group wanted "real" pasta and all is family style. We will definitely be back!"

  • "Food is good but certainly NOT worth the price. As for service, this place should be a buffet helping myself would be better because the service is poor. Hopefully, you don't want a refill on your water. LOL You might it get by the dessert."

  • "I have loved Carmine's since it was only located in Times Square NYC. The DC location does not disappoint. The food is great as is the service. TIP: Make sure to ask for olive oil with the bread, AMAZING. The tiramisu is also not to be missed."

  • "The food was outstanding and the atmosphere is vibrant, but if you are looking for a quiet, romantic dinner, I would go somewhere else. We had to track down the waiter a few times, but normally when we go we do not have that problem."

  • "This is the fourth Carmine's restaurant that I and my family have been to. We have been to both in New York, the one at Atlantis in the Bahamas and finally the one closest to home, here in D.C. It was my son's 21st birthday and when I asked him what he "wanted", he said "Carmine's and a hockey game on the same night". He got his wish and the Titanic!! Hands down, the best Italian food I have ever had in my life and I would give all four of the Carmine's four stars. Now on to Vegas!!"

  • "No one leaves hungry. It is a fun place to dine and food is more than enough to feed twice as many guest! Tastey food and fast service. It is always a great place to bring large parties."

  • "I had read about the food so we decided to go with friends. The food was good but the service was poor. I assume the three bus loads of high schoolers that arrived before us didn't help but given the price I want good food and service."

  • "The calamari was excellent as was the Portobellos parmigiana, everyone liked the chicken parmigiana & side of broccoli as well. I have to give the waiter kudo's for recommending the Tug Boat for dessert, was a great way to finish off the night and more than enough for 5 adults."

  • "Even with a reservation, It took over an hour to receive main course from appetizers and drinks, but every person seated at a table after us ate first. This was me and my wife 19th year anniversary and we have been coming to Carmines for this occasion the past 3 years, and it was ruined. The Manager made excuses for the wait but it was crazy how we were treated. My wife cried In the car. We will never forget this memory (19 years of marriage at Carmines)."

  • "We were mistanly under the impression that Carmines would be upscale Italian with a nice atmosphere for conversation....ooops!"

  • "The restaurant was absolutely packed -- and very, very noisy. A group started in on some obnoxious chanting. They had a separate room, but were just behind the wall, and it was very loud. The staff should have done something to prevent them from bothering everyone around them. Our waiter was clearly overworked, but was nice, helpful, and informative. BUT, the restaurant should have had more waiters on duty on such a busy night. We had to ask for the bread, and then just got one basket, with barely enough for our group. We had three pastas -- the bolongese, the marinara, and one with garlic and olive oil. The marinara was fine -- nothing exciting, and not enough sauce. I would return, but never on a night this busy."

  • "I have been to Carmine's in NYC many times but this was my first visit in DC. I was not disappointed. The service was amazing the food excellent! We had a group of 16 and we had fun sharing dishes. They staff was very accomodating and put us in a room with only a few other tables. My "guests" were from all over the country-we were in DC on business and everyone was impressed and can't wait to return next year."

  • "The atmosphere was inviting, the old photos and menu on the wall a charming detail. Attentive staff and just because the platters are family style huge, does not mean it is a lot of food for the value. It was delicious from the bread basket to the pasta. We had meat eaters and veggies at one table and everyone left happy. I'd definitely recommend and go again either for business lunch or out of town guests."

  • "Really felt ignored by wait staff; several times we had to call on another waiter to get our waiters attention. Couldn't even get them to bring us a bill - GEEZ! We had three children under the age of three and would have liked to know that Carmines is OK with having kids, but apparently not! Probably won't ever go back - too many other places to go where the food is better and the wait staff and restaurant at least pretent they care about your business."

  • "This is a good dining option for groups - as the title says, "family style" - but it is less suitable for a couple dining alone, as we were. When we ordered a simple meal of pasta and salad, the waiter immediately told us that was too much food for the two of us. We wound up with an order of lasagna easily big enough for four, a bottle of wine, and no salad or other side, which was a very one-note dining experience. We would have preferred more variety and less quantity, but couple-size dinners don't seem to be an option. The lasagna was good, though."

  • "The food was amazing. Our server, Jose, was wonderful... we couldn't have asked for a better dining experience. Can't recommend the Mixed Seafood with White Sauce enough. Absolutely brilliant."

  • "Carmine's came strongly recommended by my brother-in-law. It surpassed my expectations! The manicotti was the best I've ever had. Our server did an excellent job explaining how the "family style" menu worked. We brought in a group of seven people and had no problems talking at a normal level. The restaurant is absolutely huge, but you can't tell because everything is sectioned off excellently. The cost was about $140 not including tip, but we had Caesar salad, spaghetti with meatballs, manicotti, chicken parmesan, and the "tugboat" (a smaller version of the Titanic). My family agreed that Carmine's was the best Italian restaurant that we've ever been to. I'd love to have this restaurant in Boise, Idaho!"

  • "We are familiar with Carmine's in New York, so we were hopeful that DC would be as nice for a family group as the two restaurants in New York. We were pleased with the DC location! Our family from NY was pleased. Everyone had a wonderful time including my two year old niece and 2 month old grand child. Happy Happy Happy."

  • "Food is good, but nothing special. Family style service, so I woul not recommend this for couples or solo diners. If you are takin your kids to meet friends woth their kids, this is a reasonable choice."

  • "This was our third time to Carmine's and as always it did not disappoint. Food was excellent, and with 8 people plenty of food and always fun to taste all the dishes. Keep up the good work"

  • "I love Carmines and often hit the NYC location but only recently discovered the DC restaurant. The food is amazing and best suited for groups of 4 or more because it serves family style. A two people visit will involve lots of take home deliciousness or tragically having to dump it (most hotels don't put a refrigerator in the room anymore.) It's always wonderful service and consistent food with excellent ingredients."

  • "The veal was delivered cold, but once we told our server, a new platter of veal was delivered nice and hot. The bottle of wine suggested by our server was excellent. The service was exemplary. Our seating was a challenge as the table was too close to a surrounding table and was in a busy passage to a room with a large party. One member of our party had to change seats due to the constant bumping by servers as they attended to the large party. Would have been helpful if earlier along someone from the restaurant suggested rearranging our seating at the table and helped to facilitate moving the place setting and food to accommodate."

  • "Food and service quality was good...hostess was very accommodating and pleasant. Would love to have had more than three anchovies in my Caesar salad they got lost in the abundance of lettuce. My guest was not to thrilled with the drink from the bar."

  • "The food at carmines was delicious. We ordered 5 dishes which included the house salad, calamari app.,chix. and spinach (UNBELIEVABLY GOOD!), shrimp scampi and the linguine white lam sauce. Everything was eaten. Great place to go with a group. A little pricey."

  • "For two people, the portions were insanely large and we opted to order only an appetizer. The Portabella Parmesan was great and humongous for two people. Note: This restaurant is designed for groups!!"

  • "Went to Carmine's to celebrate our anniversary and had a terrible experience. Upon being seated we were told by the Busboy that the waiter was late and he'd take care of us until he got in... it went downhill from there. The non-existent manager came over to our table to offer excuses 90 minutes into our captivity. Managing the front of this house was well beyond her capabilities... my recommendation is to go to Filomena Ristorante in Georgetown. I'm sorry I didn't."
