Diner Reviews
  • "Was the perfect place to bring my family members for a surprise birthday dinner. They are still talking about it today. Food was delicious, unique & every dish was memorable (&, believe me, we tried many). Our server was very knowledgeable and friendly & helped make the night more special. Local art they help to show is a nice touch. Maybe a little more permanent decor would be nice to add more character to the place."

  • "This time I brought out of town family to dine, they loved the experience. One time again, Cappy's met the expectations. Consistency is their secret!"

  • "Bit of a drive from the riverwalk scene but well worth it. Fantastic food and I entertain for a living."

  • "Seems like every time I go to Cappy's I come away impressed. And every time I say we should dine there more often...and we don't -mainly because it is in an area we don't visit often. And once again, the experience was first rate. The iceberg wedge salad was perfect. A Brussel Sprout and Shrimp appetizer was very good but a bit oily. And the Mussels and Fries were also very good - in fact the quality of the mussels was exceptional though the sauce retained an alcohol taste suggesting it needed to be cooked down a bit longer. A very pleasant dinner!"

  • "This restaurant is consistently good with enough variation in their menu from time to time but also keeps dishes that are favorites. They know their clientele and always have a friendly greeting for all. The outdoor porch is a wonderful spot in most weather and indoors is casual enough but tablecloths at night are a nice touch. It's the star among Cappy's restaurants."

  • "I have been to Cappy's several times and each time the good has been outstanding. I had the halibut and it was cooked perfectly. My wife had the scallops and they melted in her mouth. The salads were perfect as well. Can't wait until our next visit."

  • "What a fantastic restaurant! – you will not be disappointed. The steaks were cooked to perfection. The brussels sprouts were wonderfully roasted. I can't say enough. We had a wonderful waitress Nicole. Did I mention the dessert “Coconut Cream Pie! We will be back"

  • "I love trying new foods and just food in general! This place hands down was great food, prices and service. I loved it there and the waitress was so wonderful and nice. She gave me and my girlfriend since it was our first time and also my friends bday, the Sticky Toffee Pudding Cake on the house! I have to say the best desert i have ever had in my life...i have a new favorite now! If your unsure you should choose this place!! Also if your worried about money with 2 people you could spend only $70 and for a high-in restaurant that is not bad at all! :)"

  • "Cappy's has been around for ages, but I had not been in in years. Had heard good things about it recently and decided to try it again. Had a wonderful meal, while sitting outside, and will certainly return. Glad to reconnect with this restaurant."

  • "My husband and I wanted to celebrate our 11th anniversary in a different but romantic restaurant with great food. We notice Cappu's Restaurant in the Open Table list of restaurant so we gave it a shot and we are so glad we did. Everything about this restaurant was special from the service to the delicious food!!"

  • "A solid choice for a nice lunch outing with a good menu ($13-19). Also a good dinner place, but depending on your budget it is fairly pricey ($19-33). Mustang chicken is a great option here, both delicious and relatively affordable compared to other menu items. Also, some of the desserts are fantastic - I especially recommend the Sticky Toffee Pudding (I believe that was its name - an apricot cake doused in butterscotch sauce served with vanilla ice cream)."

  • "Cappy's must have had their off night on a Tueaday. The food was good, but not it's typical amazing. Am I getting picky? No. Garnishing a steak with spring blossom tips is beautiful, putting a master gardener's entire floral bouquet atop my medium rare meat is annoying. They've done much better. Melted bone marrow butter is amazing on a hot steak! A cold plop of the stuff on a warm steak, leaves me wondering, "Okay, what did I do? Who's being passive aggressive?" Seriously, the food was good. Not great. Not worth a birthday reservation. The service was nice, as typical."

  • "Cappys is a great local spot away from the downtown tourist traps. Everything was fresh and we'll worth it. Prices are about half of what you will pay downtown for the same food."

  • "I have been coming to this restaurant since I moved to town in 1986, and it remains one of my favorite places for lunch and dinner, and a great restaurant to take my out of town guests. Love the menu, love the servers, and LOVE the Bloody Marys! I will continue to come this establishment, and recommend it to all of my colleagues."

  • "I ordered the special surf and turf and all though the steak had good flavor it was really small 6 oz , I was not a fan of the pumpkin sauce on the bottom/mash. The second part is really crucial, the surf portion of my meal was a fried lobster tail, with a beer batter, I have never tried this so I thought lets do it - not a winner. The gulf shrimp were horrible and I could not get the taste of ginger out of my mouth to save my life. The wife had the sirloin, which was ordered medium and was delivered rare, after it was returned the steak was so - so and was at least 8 oz. The main thing I would also like to point out is the price, no one has mentioned the cost of this place, its around 150.00 if you drink water, for two patrons. $$$"

  • "Took my spouse here Saturday for brunch to celebrate our wedding anniversary. Have eaten here many times but never for brunch. Our reservation was for 10:00 and we practically had the whole place to ourselves. As always the food was wonderful to say the least; spouse had eggs benedict and I had eggs sardou. Highly recommend the sardou if you love vegetables; the eggs melted in your mouth. The staff was very excellent. I can not recall our waiter's name but I would give him 5-stars as well for his attentiveness, knowledge of the dishes and recommendations. Highly recommend Cappy's for a date or any occasion."

  • "My wife and I have gone to Cappy's for a special dinner around Valentine's Day for the last two years and both experiences were great. The food is amazing and the ambience is perfect for a romantic dinner. The hostess is incredibly friendly and everything a hostess should be to set the tone for an excellent experience. The first time we ate there, customer service could not have been better. This time, our server had a few too many tables to give us the service we had expected. We sat for a while before he addressed us and then waited even longer just to get some water. He didn't do much to entice us or explain the highlights of the menu as we heard other servers do. But overall the experience was wonderful and we will definitely be back."

  • "Went here for Valentines Day. Reservations strongly recommended. The food was excellent, although the only gripe I have was the overpriced oysters appetizer, with only 3 small oysters for $14. Other than that, it's one of our favorite places to visit in San Antonio. The mojitos are excellent."

  • "Took my lady to Cappy's for our first Valentine's dinner together. Everything was as expected from a classy dining establishment. We weren't kept waiting when we arrived at our reserved time, the wait server was very personable, knowledgeable about the menu and very attentive. There was something for everyone on the menu (unless hot dogs and tacos are your thing), the prices were reasonable for the high quality food and presentation. I would have liked a little larger wine selection (couldn't find OUR wine :-)), however, the evening was a success and we will certainly be coming back again."

  • "I have been eating at Cappy's for 15 years of its now nearly 40 year run, but hadn't been back in about a year. Lately my family and I have been taking advantage of the great culinary scene that is growing in San Antonio. Even with all the great choices, when scratching my head for a Valentine's Day dinner, Cappy's immediately popped into mind. Going back to Cappy's after sampling some of SA's (and Austin's) best new restaurants, I am absolutely amazed at how consistently excellent Cappy's has been. The food quality - especially the seafood - is second to none in my opinion, the menu familiar yet evolving, and the service still warm and professional. Our meal reminded me that Cappy's should not be overlooked as one of SA's best ever."

  • "I took my mother and two of her friends for a special lunch out on her birthday, which was also Valentine's day. We enjoyed a lunch with yummy mussels, salmon and tasty spinach, and the steak salad. All were wonderful and James took great care of us. After dessert, we were pleasantly surprised that Csppy came over to wish mother a happy birthday. She has told all her friends at her retirement village and wants to go back again soon! Thanks for a special day for my mother!"

  • "Went for valentines and were seated upstairs. Took a long time to get our drinks and they were Very weak. The food was ok but very salty. We don't plan on Returning but you may have better luck than us. They did nothing special for the tables for valentines or the ladies like give them a rose or chocolate. For the price it wasn't worth it."

  • "Cappy's only disappointed me one time (and it wasn't this last visit). The sole moment Cappy's left me wanting was the day I took my parents for Sunday lunch and the ribeye with bone marrow butter was absent from the menu. My last outing with my bride was NO disappointment! The ribeye was cooked perfectly and the combination of marrow butter, lentils & roasted cauliflower was amazing. Try it! The house red is probably the best wine you can get by he glass, too. I really enjoy their grilled market salad, although I do believe it to be a bit overpriced. I rarely get desert, but if I did get it at Cappy's, I'd get another ribeye. :)"
