Diner Reviews
  • "great food. very clean, good drinks, nice location"

  • "Consitently good Mexican and a step above the basic enchilada and taco place. The high noise level makes it feel like a "happening place", but makes it difficult to have converstions. Wish they had more outdoor seating. Much of their outdoor seating feels more like indoor close to an open window."

  • "My fiance and I are huge Mexican food lovers and we loved it here! The ambiance was inviting and relaxing and our server Tony was very friendly. Chips and salsa were delivered within a few moments after we sat down, then we ordered a couple of cocktails and guac. When I started to ask for another shot of tequila in my drink that tasted a bit weak, Tony was happy to do so free of charge without me having to ask not to pay for it. Our entrees were delivered very quickly after we ordered and the food was just amazing. Everything was fresh and my enchiladas were innovative, yet also seemed traditional. We try to keep visit new restaurants often and don't typically return to many, however I already cannot wait to return to Cantina Laredo."

  • "Guacamole had too much black or white pepper which gave it an undertone that made me cough? Although we were supposed to have it made our way, the person did not ask what we'd like in it or NOT in it -- we did not know our choices, although our table was in conversation, we would still have liked the opportunity to be asked what our choices were -- I did say I did not want any jalapeno or for it to be spicy. Not sure what the other ingredients were but it was not a typical guacamole -- for instance if I had the choice I would have wanted more cilantro and lime or lemon. Food was just mediocre -- not what I was expecting for the price, etc. The rest of my party felt the same way. Prefer Mercadito for same type of food."

  • "We chose Cantina Laredo just by walking down the street and it was a great choice. I recommend the mojito as well as the avocado/artichoke enchiladas."

  • "The service, the food, and the atmosphere was amazing! We had friends meet us at Cantina Laredo this was there first time eating there, they are now "hooked". It could have not been more perfect! We all ordered fajtias and they were tender and with great flavor. The Margarita's were made perfect. We will be back with our friends! Thank you Cantina Laredo - you out did yourself this time!"

  • "Only problem I had was the waiter seemed a little lost. I asked for lemon and water he brought back lime got mad because I told him he was wrong so brought my lemon back on a dirty napkin. :( Food was great service was just bad maybe i will get a better waiter next time."

  • "This restaurant is in a great location and beautifully designed. The modern architecture is beautiful and sleek. The food is delicious and they have a lot of great menu choices. Please note, that the service tends to be very slow. If you're in a hurry or on a time schedule, this may not be the best restaurant choice. The restaurant, however, is very loud. I went with a group of 6 and was sat at a round table. We all had to yell at each other almost the entire dinner. Definitely not recommended for those that are hard of hearing or those that are hoping for a romantic date. If you would like a little more privacy, they do have private areas that are enclosed with glass doors."

  • "Ricardo was very attentive and took care of everything perfectly. I was very impressed with his professional approach to making us feel special during our dinner. We will definitely be back and hope to have Ricardo helping us again. He's a keeper!"

  • "This is the second time we have dined at Cantina Laredo. The food is very good, the margaritas are great and the price is moderate. We really enjoyed the experience."

  • "Very happy we went here. The food and service were very good, things were a little pricy for what we got in some cases... but I would go there again."

  • "Got seated at a round table with only 3 total people in our party and the waiter was Really upset at the fact that we were taking up a "big" table.....The service got even worse after that. He never filled our water and was rushing us to order drinks & food at the same time. Good thing the food made Up for the service a little bit. I wouldn't recommend going on a Friday/Saturday night."

  • "My boyfriend ordered the fish tacos and he thought he mistakenly got chicken tacos because the fish was so tough. I took a bite and I thought they were chicken tacos as well. My entree was relatively better but it had so much cheese I could barely taste anything but. The drinks and guacamole were the best part of the meal. The service and ambiance was great. I just wish the food was better."

  • "Loved being able to make reservations for a party of 8. Chips with table side guacamole was delicious. Everyone in our group loved the meal they ordered. Enchiladas Veracruz were delicious. Would definitely go back and will refer to friends!"

  • "I read the reviews and was excited for Dinner at Cantina Laredo. Unfortunately, the food did not live up to expectations. Cerviche to start was a mix of an unidentifiable fish, overcooked prawns and the saving grace: delicious scallops. Halfway through eating this, they delivered my main course (a trio of tacos). This is one of my real pet peeves about restaurants. Of course I don't want my main when I haven't even finished my starter!!! Instead it was sent back to the kitchen to sit under the hot plate to keep warm and therefore dry out and make the meat tough. They do table side guacamole which seems popular but not enough of a draw to make me go back, High point was the margaritas."

  • "I love the Enchiladas and the Margaritas. Everything was soo good!"

  • "I meet my old college roommate for dinner. It was great! Noisy but we were still able to talk and catch up. We both had fabulous margaritas and the shrimp tacos. They were just ok. I also had a tasty dessert. Very large portion! I don't recall the name of the dessert but it was cake with a sauce on top of it. I would definitely go back"

  • "We have been to this restaurant many times and always enjoy it. The food is delicious, especially the tamales!"

  • "Food was great! Server was wonderful. Atmosphere was great. Went with a group of 5, we had a table next to the fireplace. I have no complaints! Can't wait to dine again!"

  • "Another great meal! Food is fresh and delicious and very unique. This restaurant is one of our favorites when we visit Chicago. Highly recommend the margaritas! Fresh squeezed lime juice - you'll not have a better drink elsewhere!"

  • "We went here for a small reunion and to celebrate birthdays/offers/acceptances amongst our group. Great ambience, great good, great drinks. Overall, amazing time before we headed out for the rest of our evening."

  • "So I ordered the chicken enchiladas with mole sauce which came with Spanish rice and zucchini. The enchiladas were very good, but the rice tasted like a microwaveable minute rice and some of the zucchini were not cooked. We also had the guacamole that is made fresh at your table and that was great!!! The drinks were a little pricey but very good."

  • "Food was great and the tableside guac was outstanding. Even though the tables are far apart it was a bit noisy."

  • "great spot for dining in the heart of the city without the madness of similar restaurants that don't take reservations"

  • "Food is always great. The apple pie with cinnamon ice cream was awesome."

  • "I went on a lunch date. The restaurant was nearly empty. Our server was very nice, but too busy with a larger table to take our order for a very long time. The table side guacamole, which we ordered "medium," was bland. We added more salt and squeezed the lime from our margarita to make it better. Cantina presents the guacamole as a must-order, but skip it! The carnitas tacos were really good, but the enchiladas Veracruz were bland. In short, I would totally go back for margaritas and maybe to snack on some tacos at the bar, but I would skip a real meal there."

  • "I have been in Cantina Loredo a couple of times and it never disappoints you, The food is delicious, the service quick and the environment really fresh and modern. I love that it's open for everyone which gives it a cool vibrancy, without being too fancy or posh. Don't hesitate in trying the guacamole as their appetizer and the new Botanas Trio!!!!! Great Margaritas too:)"

  • "A group of 5 of us arrived at 8pm for drinks, appetizers, & dinner. The guacamole made at your table was fantastic, and so were our drinks! I personally didn't have an entree (as I'd eaten prior), but my friends who did eat enjoyed theirs. We shared the flan & churro deserts, which were good. The best part was the staff, extremely friendly and accomodating!"

  • "Food and service are good. Not the best mexican dinner I've had but still above average. Noise level at the ground floor is extremely high, almost too much to talk to your friends, but if you want to take your chances at the bar upstairs it's much better."

  • "It's the second time I've been here. Very great location. The restaurant is so elegant but welcoming. Very open space and lots of room. Great tequila menu and food was excellent, especially the made-at-your-table guacamole and tuna tacos. Highly recommend."

  • "Interesting food menu, good drinks and energetic ambiance. We were a group of 5 to celebrate my birthday. The boot was cozy, our server was pleasant but seemed extremely busy. Overall, good experience but not outstanding."

  • "Walked by this place one night by chance - it was hopping. Went back to the hotel and googled it then booked it. Buzzing place - great food - all in all a great night out."

  • "I enjoyed the atmosphere. The food was excellent. I also enjoyed the wine list and when they made the guacamole at the table."

  • "But the food is just "eh" (and overpriced). Best to go for margaritas and the custom-made guacamole."
    Dined on 7/15/2013
  • "The food was great, but it's very noisy no matter where you are in the restaurant. Be prepared to either talk very loudly or only have a conversation with the person sitting next to you."

  • "Always consistently great food and service! Beautiful interior including fireplaces."
    Dined on 3/15/2014
  • "Consistently good Mexican in a sometime's too busy and loud environment. Avoid Saturday nights if you want to be able to have a conversation at your table!"
    Dined on 3/14/2014
  • "Had rsvp for 8PM. Arrived right around 8 and was walked directly to our table. Had chip and salsa right away with water. Salsa was ok, not the best. One spicy and one mild, relatively thin. I prefer a more rich flavored salsa, chunky with lots of veggies. Dinner was very good. The menu has a good selection of choices. I noticed there are private rooms for parties. The place is loud, very open and busy. They turn a lot of people in and out. They kind of rush everything at you, but we like to dine slowly and did. Had some great drinks and a good dessert, although the choices were few. I probably will not go back, at least for a while, but it is a good choice."
