  • "Food is great, view is panoramic . But service is OK. Maybe they were too busy?"

  • "History of the area with local characters on the walls. A beautiful setting, and, really great feeling."

  • "We shared a window table with good friends down visiting, and we all loved everything! Had a great server (pregnant and super nice!) Greg service and great food and wine too! We've been many times before but it was their first visit, and they were very impressed! We'll be back soon!"

  • "This is a hidden treasure. Don't miss it. Great view of Dana Point harbor. Great food. Not for people with fear of heights."
    Dined on 4/9/2014
  • "We've been in the area nearly 14 years but had never been. It was quite a pleasent surprise. We had a window seat looking out over the harbor, the appetizer of crab beignet were fabulous, I had the mahi and my wife had the filet oscar. For dessert, she went with the cannoli and I had the Key Lime pie. Absolutely everything was served perfectly. We enjoyed it all and the service we received put this place on a five-star level."

  • "From the outstanding view of Dana Point Harbor and the coastline south to the outstanding menu, Cannons is a great restaurant. Nice mixture of entrees that allows everyone to pick their favorite food group. The best food group is their dessert menu. The Mud Pie is enough for two. The service was outstanding. We sat inside but the patio on a nice spring/summer afternoon provides a good experience."

  • "First and foremost is the magnificent coastal / ocean view. The service was fantastic. Our entire table totally enjoyed every bite of food. The pricing for the food and drink is very reasonable."

  • "The restaurant it self is dated, we had to call twice for directions because the hostess forgot the last street to turn on, restaurant was half full on a Friday night at 8 pm. We got a great located table with a view of the water but the windows need to be clean. We took his suggestion on the "day boat scallops with linguini and lobster sauce. The scallops were cooked perfect, BUT the sauce filled the bowls--like soup. The restaurant makes claim that they make all their own soups and sauces. But having lobster bisque soup and lobster sauce (which I think the sauce is the soup) why is there no lobster on the menus because their shells are needed for the soup. The dinner rolls that we had to ask for, were microwaved due to how hard they got."

  • "The food was good, the view outstanding and the service was great."

  • "The view is awesome; other than that the Caesar salad had too much dressing, the prime rib was the worst I have ever had - fully one half was fat, and the meat that was there was as plain as I have had, and the seafood skewer was also mostly bland. The coconut shrimp appetizer was very good though."

  • "My wife and I have been going to Cannons for years now ... and it is our first stop for special occasions (like our anniversary). Highly recommend for good food, service and a wonderful view and atmosphere."
    Dined on 3/19/2014
  • "The view is spectacular, especially at dusk. You can sit outside or in, and overlook all of Dana Point Harbor and beyond from your vantage point. Outstanding! Everyone who worked there went out of their way to welcome us, seat us quickly, and provide great service all around. Most of the employees were young and energetic, with an eager to please vibe. The food was good, starting with the Crab Beignets, which were to die for. The scallops were tasty, but very rich in a heavy cream sauce over linguine. The filet mignon was nice, cooked to perfection. Dessert was cheesecake, a nice lite version, so go for it!"

  • "My husband and I eat here maybe once a year as a treat. For us it is a bit pricey. But we love the view and the food is wonderful. We come early to take advantage of Happy Hour for a drink before dinner. My husband had the Lamb Shank and there was nothing left on the bone when he finished. I had the Steak Oscar, it was cooked perfect and the vegetables and scalloped potatoes that came with it were delicious."

  • "Prettiest view you will see while dining in Southern California! Get there before dark so you can see how stunning it is, and definitely request a window seat!"

  • "We were running late from a hectic work day so when I called on the way they had already moved us to the next open time slot. VERY accomodating and helpful staff. The food was delicious. Cant beat the view!"

  • "Went to Cannons for my wife's birthday, as one of her favorites and food is always good. There was a completely obnoxious table next to us (party of 8 or 9) and the restaurant did not do anything to get them under control. Completely ruined the evening, and as it was Saturday, not another table to move to."

  • "Reserved for a 21st birthday for my son. Was disappointed the patio was closed during the winter on certain days which we'd planned on enjoying for an hour or so before dinner. No problem, we went next door to the Chart House for drinks then returned to Cannons for an outstanding meal."

  • "With a night view of the harbor and Lantern Bay together with great food and gracious service, Cannon's is surely the iconic place to eat in Dana Point. The tomato and onion salad is every bit as good as it looks, and the seafood is perfectly prepared. My favorite: mixed seafood skewers over rice. Generous portions, and delicious!"

  • "Once again, the quality of everything at every restaurant has fallen substantially since the 2008 financial crisis. For a few short years, not just restaurants, but every business had a strong incentive to fight for patrons. All that has passed, and we're back to business as usual, in most establishments. The server was pleasant and helpful. But, we had to ask for bread multiple times, before it arrived. The drinks were tasty, but short on alcohol. There were forks missing from two of the table settings. The entrees were good, but nothing extraordinary. Three stars."

  • "After enjoying Cannon's several times over the years, we were very disappointed recently. Starting with hostess not knowing how to meet & greet people; at 4:45 PM she would not seat us in dining room because it was "happy hour" ... We had a 5 PM dinner reservation for which we then had to move about 15 feet to be seated & have dinner. When the waitress came she asked what we wanted for dessert. When we replied we'd not had dinner yet she just laughed & took our orders. My husband's dinner arrived & it was not what he ordered. He eventually was served what he'd ordered. Our meals were just "ok". We won't go back.....lots of choices in the Dana Pt. Area."

  • "The place needs an urgent face lift. It looks the same for the last 25 years. Spectacular views, good food. The Décor does take away from the experience."
    Dined on 2/15/2014
  • "If it wasn't for the view, this place would have no one in it. The food was average at best. The service needs mass improvement. A customer should not have to ask for water or bread or get the candle lit or track down a waitress for service. One manager went around to the large tables only to see how things were going, but skipping tables with 3 or less. Another person (manager maybe) lit our candle once we got our check and complained to us that she was on the phone for 45 minutes. The decor hasn't changed in years and it really shows. The only thing going for Cannons is the view."

  • "Not sure if we will ever go back... From the moment we arrived, the Valet people made us move our car to the very corner lot. Come to find out the Valet parking is complimentary so i'm not sure why we were told to rudely move our car. I mentioned it as we checked in and she didn't seem to care. We were sat at a great table by the window. I ordered soup. It was cold and very salty. Our meal arrived and Steak was amazing and that's all that was good. The Veggies were burn and oily... Scalloped potatoes were not cooked all the way. We had to ask for bread. They don't automatically give you any. Last complaint.... When they serve you a drink, even water they don't use a beverage napkin so the table is all wet."

  • "Pleased that they did not pull the "prom special", with the limited menu and high price. Only waited a couple of minutes for our table, food and service were both quite good. We were pleasantly surprised!"

  • "Seating and service in the lower level is noticeably difference from the service you get upstairs. We requested to be seated upstairs where we usually like to dine. Unfortunately for this occasion we were dressed formal casual and as a result we were seated downstairs. The reason why im upset is because I made my reservations a month in advance and requested a table upstairs. I feel we were discriminated upon because of our attire even though I requested and was willing to wait for a table upstairs I was denied. It was very clear that night that formal attire was for upstairs only this was no secret and was so obvious. Service was so annoying the waiter was rushing us out when they were not even busy. We couldn't wait to get out of there."

  • "The restaurant was not romantic at all. It was very noisy. The service was fairly good and the food was so so. I wouldn't spend bou coup bucks at this restaurant again. There are many other restaurants better than Cannons Seafood Grill."

  • "I took several family members to Cannons to celebrate my daughter's birthday. The view is amazing; however, we were disappointed by both the service and the food. The staff left unused wine glasses and dirty dishes on the table far too long, creating a lot of clutter and a very disruptive situation when the main course came. The food was okay, but certainly nothing special--and overpriced for what you actually get. I ordered a lamb shank, which was one of the specials that night. It was very fatty, with very little meat that was actually edible. The vegetables and potatoes were surprisingly flat. The view just isn't enough to justify the high price for such a mediocre experience. Live and learn. I won't be going back."

  • "You cannot find a better view in a restaurant in Dana Point. The view of the harbor and ocean were spectacular. The food was good and I particularly enjoyed the cioppino. The wine list was not extensive but adequate. Cannons made for a nice special night out with the family enjoying both good seafood and a great view."
    Dined on 2/9/2014
  • "Not only do you get a fabulous view from almost any table in the restaurant - Dana Point Harbor and the coastline all the way to San Clemente - but also very good food. Friendly service, a bit unattentive, though."

  • "My wife and I first dined at Cannons in 1973. Since then we moved all over the US and always managed to dine there every few years. We have sent countless friends and neighbors of ours there when traveling to SoCal, most recently 2 different couples in fall and early winter of 2013. All have experienced the food , service, and experience that we have cherished. 2/04/14 was no different and we experienced a marvelous sunset and close to the day, as we scheduled an early meal. After sunset the lights went forever down the coast and the staff encouraged us to relax and take our time. We have experienced restaurants with great views, and little else. We go to Cannon's for many, many reasons, and are never disappointed."

  • "I went to Cannon's hoping for a semi-casual but delicious seafood experience. The best part of the evening was the spectacular, sparkling view of Dana Point Harbor. The service was very informal but friendly and competent. Foodies should steer clear: the food was unimaginative, overcooked, and inexplicably drowning in mayonaise, barbecue sauces and cheese. The wine list was generic and as equally unimaginative as the menu. The meal was comparable to one at a family chain restaurant where aspects are defrosted in a microwave--say a Chilis or Ruby Tuesday. Perhaps best for a casual early dinner of burgers and the like."

  • "Amazing view, wonderful service and delicious food. The appetizers was delicious, we had calamari, crab beignets & the mushrooms. However, we came for their amazing lobster and found out that they were all out. That was a disappointment. This is a seafood restaurant, should make it a priority to have lobster. 4 out of 5 order the steak. Steak was good, but would rather not have sauce on it. We still had a great time."

  • "Been here a few times but not for a while and it was better than we remembered, food was excellent and service was good plus a great view. We will go back again but definitely better when there isn't a wedding or special event on as can then be very busy and noisy."
    Dined on 2/1/2014
  • "That's about where the good stuff ends. Soup was tepid. I had to ask for bread 3x. Soup was supposed to come out first and the entree came out immediately afterwards. The kitchen was having horrendous problems handling the orders. Won't go back and can't recommend. There are too many other nice restaurants in Dana Point with equally good views."
