A word from Cafe Gia Ristorante
In 1953, Giovanna Aquia, along with her family, boarded the famous Italian luxury liner the “Andrea Doria” and made their way to America from Cefalu, Sicily, arriving in Little Italy, Baltimore on June 23, 1953. Their family life always revolved around the dinner table. It was there that a great appreciation of simple Sicilian cuisine took root.

It was the desire to share our Sicilian heritage and Sicilian cuisine that prompted the family to buy an older neighborhood diner and create a new, warm, comfortable family ristoranté in Little Italy, “Café Gia Ristoranté.” We have strived very hard to recreate a Sicilian bistro, a place where one feels like they are in Sicily while dining. Buon appetito!

Diner Reviews
  • "We always come away from Gia's feeling like we've just had dinner with family, in a good way. Good food, service, wine, and ambience. It's not 5-star but it's homey & delicious. Can't beat the atmosphere. Gia's eagle eye doesn't miss anything and she never fails to greet us a hug."

  • "Adorable decor, makes me happy to be there… love the upstairs murals. Food was great, Friendly waiters, mixed up my order x 2 but on 2nd time I decided to forego the cavatelli I had ordered and keep the eggplant parmesan as it looked so yummy ( it was). The mother-daughter owners are so nice. I highly recommend and plan to go back. The"moderate" noise level was because we sat outside over a typical city street."

  • "this was our second visit to Cafe Gia. The ambiance is unique and cozy, the service was great, but the food fell flat. The pasta dishes, which were served in bowls, were swimming in water in the bottom. The breaded chicken parmesan, strangely, had no flavor at all. There three dessert offerings, we ordered two of them, and they were good."

  • "A charming little spot with a nice menu, generous portions and solid cooking. A starter of bruschetta was served on property toasted Italian bread but the tomato and caper topping was a bit bland and needed a bit of pep from the salt shaker. Veal saltimboca was tender and satisfying, with just the right proportions of cheese and ham. Accompanying green beans were excellent but the roasted potato wedges were just meh. Quite reasonably priced."

  • "I went there or my birthday, and all of the staff came up and wished me a happy birthday. The food was delicious! Service was great, and the food did not take a long time. We will be coming back!"

  • "This was my third visit to Cafe Gia. The restaurant is owned by a mother-daughter team, and the service has been consistently friendly. The menu is surprisingly broad considering the small size of the restaurant, yet all of the dishes appear to be house-made and very fresh. The wine list had a nice selection of domestic and Italian wines, and the prices were reasonable. I would not hesitate to recommend this wonderful restaurant to anyone who would like to experience authentic Italian food in the heart of Baltimore."

  • "One of the best restaurants in Little Italy. The ambiance was charming and the food was delish! Highly recommended. Can't wait to go back for another fantastic meal!"

  • "My husband and I took my parents out to dinner to celebrate a special occasion and we chose Cafe Gia since we had enjoyed it before. The food did not disappoint as usual- great specials and consistent dishes from previous experiences. The wait staff was VERY attentive- also overly so- until it got a bit busy and it was a bit of a disappearing act. That was a little strange. While dinner was yummy- dessert could have been skipped. Next time we will walk down the street for some gelato instead of ordering dessert there. Overall another good experience at Cafe Gia and we will be back. "

  • "We were not very pleased with out experience at Cafe Gia. Stood in the doorway too long before greeted and taken to our table. The service was poor and the food mediocre at best. Would not go back and do not recommend."

  • "We needed a table with fairly short notice and decided to go to Little Italy. We saw on Open Table that we could get a reservation at Café Gia and that it had an interesting menu and a very good rating. We loved the décor: the place had hand-painted murals on every wall with scenes from Italy that included lots of people enjoying good times. This created a very festive and fun atmosphere. Our party ordered one of the specials and three items from the menu and we were not disappointed with any of them. Our waiter, Fabio, was attentive, friendly, knowledgeable, and efficient without being intrusive, even though it was very busy. I will be recommending this restaurant to my friends."

  • "Food was great! The heated balcony was a real treat on a brisk winter night! The server was warm, congenial and made very good suggestions! Although they didn't have the needed ingredients to make my mojito, my server guided me through the wine list and made excellent recommendations to pair with my tender, savory veal dish. Bravo, well done!"

  • "The burrata appetizer was amazing! The frutti da mare was spectacular! The tiramisu was the BEST I've ever tasted! Our server Mike was personable, knowledgeable, efficient and on point with all that he recommended to us. The Limoncello was to die for! If you've been to Italy, then you'll recognize the authenticity of this restaurant, it is a real find in Baltimore's Little Italy."

  • "Gia's has long been one of our favs - been there dozens of times over the years. This visit was good, not great. Hope they are not resting on past laurels and slipping into tourist trap mediocrity."

  • "We enjoyed everything about our dinner at Gia--our server was engaging and knowledgeable, and the food was excellent from start to finish. And the room was quiet enough for us to talk and laugh and enjoy the evening."

  • "The restaurant, though smallish, is an excellent spot for any special occasion. The food, service, and ambiance were excellent."

  • "A truly superb salad was followed by gnocchi that tasted like it came out of a bag of frozen pasta. Then the espresso was watery and tasteless. A very disappointing meal at a restaurant that came with high praise."

  • "The food, staff and atmosphere made for an extremely pleasant experience. WE were celebrating a birthday and this turned out to be the perfect place. Our waitress seemed to be everywhere and at our table when we needed her. We would definitely go there again and bring friends."

  • "Charming small restaurant in Little Italy neighborhood of baltimore, very short drive, or long walk from Inner Harbor hotels and convention center. Has usual expected selections (superb chicken and eggplant parmigiana dishes) and revolving unusual choices. Mid priced for a city restaurant, casual dress, very enjoyable."

  • "Café Gia continues to be one of my favorite go to restaurants. From the wonderful lady that greets you at the door until your last minute is such a wonderful experience. I took tow friends(my neighbors) with me for their first time and they are still talking about how much they enjoyed the visit. When I made my reservation through Open Table I requested outdoor seating on the balcony. When we arrived there were no openings, but the wonderful lady who greets you at the door, who I believe is the owner, said give me a few minutes. Sure enough, after waiting just a few short minutes, a table was just getting their bill and they quickly got the table reset for us, Excellent food, wine, ambience, and service. What more could you ask for."

  • "Gia's offers an interesting Italian menu in a beautiful setting. Every inch of the walls and tables are covered with murals and paintings, including reproductions of vintage posters. The food options were authentically Italian with wonderful twists. The tomatoes caprese were stacked and skewered with a non-traditional sprig of rosemary that added a delicious kick to the summer-sweet tomatoes and fresh mozzarella cheese. The linguini with clams included tomatoes and spinach. The chicken caprese was delicious: three small chicken breasts each topped with a slice of fresh tomato, covered with a slice of mozzarella cheese and dressed with a creamy basil dressing. The service was attentive, and Gia herself made sure we were enjoying our dinner."

  • "My husband and I found Cafe Gia through urban spoon and open table. We went there completely on faith from the other reviewers, and it was fantastic! Our server was wonderful, and we were in the mood for a slower meal that night, so she did not rush us at all. All the ingredients were fresh, and wonderfully prepared. All the pasta was made fresh on site, and was perfect. I had lasagna, which was simpler than most other restaurant lasagnas I have had, and better for it! It wasn't overstuffed or too heavy, just perfect! It made me wish I lived in Baltimore so I could go there more often!"

  • "Haven't dined at Gia's in over a year and don't know why. We sat outside on the second floor on a beautiful. Saturday evening. Gia herself waited on us and the food and atmosphere were fantastic. Great food, moderate pricing and reasonably priced wine list. What more could you ask for. Will return very soon."

  • "This place was a recommendation from the locals. Amazing vodka sauce and everything was made from scratch. Everyone was very attentive including the owner Gia herself who was on her hands and needs picking things off the floor, checking in on the tables, and making sure everything ran smoothly. Great rustic scenery in the restaurant too. Overall, the portion sizes could be a little larger but Im partly saying that because I couldnt help but want more to take home with me! This is a definite must visit if you are in Little Italy!!"

  • "Sat outside upstairs on a beautiful Sunday afternoon. It felt like we were in Italy. Restaurant Week menu was great, many choices, hard to decide what to eat. Salads were great, burrata mozzarella was creamy and delicious, and the pastas were top notch. We will definitely be back."

  • "For a casual dining experience and good food quality, we always take out of town guests, as well as friends who are first timers, to Cafe Gia. The comments are universally complimentary as to the charming atmosphere with the painted tables and murals on the walls. The food is reasonably priced and the menu offers a fine variety. We have never been disappointed with our meal."

  • "Went to Cafe Gia on a Saturday night. It was not overly crowded and the noise level was appropriate. It was decorated nicely and differently from many other Little Italy restaurants. The antipasto was weak with 4 small pieces of cheese and the quality of the meat was not high. The rest of the meal was good, but portions were rather small. Overall everything was acceptable-decor, service, and food but after going to over a dozen of Baltimore's Little Italy restaurants, I'd say this falls squarely in the middle."

  • "We were a little worried because the bread was bland and definitely not house made, and the butter Was in plastic Single-serve cups. But that was the only low point. Excellent grilled octopus, and they made my linguini in red clam sauce the perfect spice level for me. The clams were fresh and perfectly cooked. My son - a teenager and athlete with a big appetite - loved his chicken Parmesan but couldn't finish it. Tables are very close together, hitch can be great if you're sitting near nice people, like we were, but it could have been painful."

  • "Very charming, family owned restaurant. They treat you like they have known you forever. Food was fresh and authentic. Owners were so accommodating and sweet with our children. If we lived closer this would be a weekly dining spot!"

  • "Very small restaurant, very large character. The owner is very active in the restaurant. She really IS Cafe Gia. Our waitress, Elyse was very attentive seeking to make our visit positive and relaxed. We found the food to be average in preparation, acceptable, plain Italian comfort food. Our biggest disappointment was the inflexibility of the owner to adjust the menu to accommodate my wife's Italiano desire for a plate of half gnocchi/half fettuccine. We were told she could have one or the other but not a combo since the kitchen had pre-proportioned packages of both that couldn't be divided. This made us think that Cafe Gia gives new meaning to freshly prepared food. OK, it's her restaurant but we were surprised (and disappointed)."

  • "We have dined here several times and have always come away impressed with their unique menu...it's not your standard, run-of- the-mill Italian fare. While they have all the standards one would expect, their kitchen puts some creative twists on the classics. The menu constantly changes to reflect what is fresh. The service has always been excellent, attentive without being pushy and giving you the sense they want your table to turn over...even on a Friday or Saturday night. The prices are excellent for what you get when compared to some of the other perrenial faves. I think it's the best value in Little Italy."

  • "My husband, son (13), daughter (12) and I had a very good meal at Cafe Gia's. The fritto misto appetizer (fried calamari, shrimp and scallops) was perfectly cooked, and my son raved over the cavatelli, which the waitress had recommended. The service was timely and professional, and the vibe was lively and comfortable."

  • "My go-to place in Little Italy! The family welcomes you, and their standards for food and service are always high! Love the art-rich environment. Grilled Caesar, eggplant parm, the chef's special (salmon) and the bolognese sauce were all hits with our guests...an impressive variety, to say the least. Atmosphere is lively, occasionally loud, but it creates a convivial vibe, not an annoyance."
