Diner Reviews
  • "Really enjoy their food - have never been disappointed! Their ribeye is amazing."

  • "Ca' Dario has been one of my wife and my favorite restaurants in town since they opened many years ago. The food is consistently great and the staff is knowledgeable, friendly, and helpful. Often when we try a new place out and find it to be "meh" we look at each other and say "we should have just gone to Ca' Dario". A popular spot for the pre-show crowd, so make sure to plan ahead if you want an early dinner on a weekend when there are shows at the Grandada, Lobero, or Arlington."

  • "Great food! As usual, fairly loud, a little slow getting your meal (they are really busy) so, leave yourselves some time. Overall a really good restaurant."

  • "We had reservations for 4 at 8:15 on Saturday night. When we arrived we were told there would be a 10 minute wait which was no problem, however we were rather annoyed with the hostess who gave away our table because 2 people of a group of six had arrived and it was easier for her to sit them there. 20 minutes later the remaining four of that group still had not arrived and we still had not been seated despite it being 8:45. Once we were seated Chuy took good care of us and the food was good."

  • "Food is outstanding. The place is a bit too noisy and space is tight but food makes it worthwhile to go back."

  • "We were seated right away, had 5:30 reservation, soon the place began to fill. louder than i like, We had the tuna, done to our preference. The service was good, and knowledgeable. Will go again"

  • "Our reservation was for 7:15 PM, but we were not seated until 7:30. We waited at the bar in the pizza restaurant and had a mediocre white wine, the cost of which was $26+ before tip. The restaurant seemed busy and one of the wait staff indicated that many patrons (mostly locals) had come early. When seated, we had a nice table in the backroom that was a bit quieter than the front room. Our waitress was excellent and the special selection wine (Tolosa Cabernet -$36) was much better than the $30 we paid for just two glasses of wine in the bar. We both ordered a simple green salad and a pasta dish. The food was excellent and the portions generous. At no time did we feel we were being rushed in order to turn our table."

  • "The food is always consistently great and the noise level is also consistently over the top in making it difficult to even have a conversation."

  • "Have dined here several times, always enjoy the food and service, can be very busy and loud, so just expect that."
    Dined on 3/14/2014
  • "Great food and service. Very loud , they need to make an investment , add some ceiling tiles or something to quiet the place down. When its full and busy , your shouting to say something."

  • "My wife and had heard great things about Ca'Dario, so we were very excited about our first visit. Maybe we caught them on an off night, but all I can say is OVERRATED!! The dressing on my Caesar salad was very heavy. My wife's artichoke was fine, but then we waited 40 minutes for our food after the appetizer dishes were cleared. 40 minutes! When I finally got my penne pomodoro, I was hoping that it would prove worth the wait. I'd love to explain how all the subtle ingredients worked together, but all I could taste was garlic on top of more garlic. My wife had fish which was mediocre. I will not return."

  • "Best bruschetta in town! I almost always order the ravioli with ricotta & spinach in a browned butter & sage sauce, very light & tasty; my husband's usual is pasta with bolognese sauce, he is not fond of spinach pasta & they always substitute a different type of pasta for him, with no extra charge or problem. We have enjoyed many of the other items on the menu, steak, veal chop, etc, all delicious, but seem to be drawn to these items which are special at Ca Dario. We are very fortunate to have so many wonderful restaurants in our hometown!!!"

  • "It was loud and crowded with tiny tables but the food was excellent with a menu of real Italian dishes rather than Italian American hybrids."

  • "Nice romantic spot for dinner. Space is small and intimate... we did feel a little crowded. Service was very friendly, well-timed and relaxing. Our main dishes (rib eye and pappardelle) were exceptional. Appetizers seemed a little over-priced. Would definitely return for dinner."

  • "My Husband and I have been coming here for years. The food is always good service is alway friendly. Since it is a small space and the tables are very close, it's better to go early if you want a more quiet romantic environment. Make your RSVP as early as possible because they fill up quick."

  • "Went to Ca'dario with my boyfriend Sunday of Valentine's weekend, this place is AMAZING! Best Italian I've ever had and I've been to Italy! The ravioli was superb! We chose a bottle of champagne, from their extensive wine list, also outstanding! Great place for a date, very cozy. It's romantic: close sitting tables, dim light, and single rose & candle on each table. The 2 tops all sit very close together, so we ended up basically having dinner with another couple lol! The service was very good, attentive. We sat at the bar while waiting, the bartender was a little standoffish at first but once we ordered our bottle of champagne and got her talking she was more open. Overall amazing experience and would love to go back next time I'm in town."

  • "We had a great meal here on Valentine's Day weekend. We had read some reviews that suggested that the service was subpar but we had a very attentive waiter who actually told us to order one fewer dish because we had over-ordered. The food was really excellent; would highly recommend the beet salad and the lamb entree. Overall, delicious Italian food and a cute, romantic ambience."

  • "Have been to Ca Dario many times.... the basic menu has not changed for years, but the quality of execution seems to be slipping, even though the place remains hugely popular. Example - the cold artichoke appetizer ($13!) used to be much cheaper, while the stuffing was more flavorfull. Now, both the flavor, and the mixture consistency has changed. Processed into a paste in a food processor to save time? Not sure... but it happened several times in a row. Anyway, reduced consistency in quality, and prices that now match other high-end Italian restaurants in the area will make an impact. Too bad."

  • "We ate here prior to the SB Intl Film Festival. It is a convenient short walk to the Arlington Theatre. I had the Risotta with a dry Rose which was excellent, flavorful and arrived hot. The asparagus with pancetta appetizer is another favorite. It is somewhat noisy so be prepared to have to tune out your neighbors' conversation. But the food is worth it."

  • "Ca Dario could be a really good restaurant but it has some flaws. The food was outstanding; the wine was good. The service was very inattentive, which was a shame. Our waiter was truly off the case--very spacey. We only saw him at the beginning and then, since we are Spanish speakers, we were able to interact effectively with the runners and the bus boys and get our needs met. The other major problem they have is the NOISE level, which is absurdly high. They really need some acoustic treatment to make the experience enjoyable. Right now it feels like an onslaught of noise. The food is outstanding --- the things that need fixing are managerial and can be easily fixed."

  • "At walking distance from the Granada, this restaurant offers very good quality of food and great friendly service. The down site: If you plan on having a conversation while dining, forget it ! it is terribly noisy, everybody Is shouting trying to cover the loud voices from the tables around them. So, we ate, enjoyed the food, and the wine, but that's it, we could not say a word ! We do not believe that we are going back on a week end for this only reason."

  • "We had a 7pm reservation and were seated at 7:20. The hostess blamed the over booking on 'Open Table'. She told the couple in front of us, if you're local call to make your reservation. I grew up in SB and find using 'Open Table' great and was surprised the hostess would even say this. I've eaten here a couple times but I don't remember the tables being so close together. The service staff hardly have any room to move and they bump you. The table next to use, about a ruler away, was bumped so many times they changed tables. The waiter only poured our wine when he brought it to the table. He never re-filled our glasses nor did he re-fill our water glasses. I doubt we will ever return."

  • "Crowded and loud, food was nothing special. Service was poor and overall, there are too many other restaurants to come back to one with overdone pasta and so so food."

  • "Wonderful food-the kind that makes you say "this is the best ragu tagletelli I have ever eaten." Waitress was engaging and professional."

  • "If heaven has Italian food, Ca' Dario's ravioli burro e salvia would be on the menu. It was the most delicious thing I have tasted in my life. My daughter, an Italian major, raved about this place and wanted me to experience it. It was our first time back to Santa Barbara, since her graduation, and I knew I had to take her there. It was everything, and more, she said it was. We have dined fine Italian places in the past, and she studied abroad in Italy and experienced authentic Italian fare, but we both agreed that Ca Dario is food to die for. Thankfully, we didn't have to - and the next time we are in Santa Barbara, in three months, we will go there again. Everything from the greeter to servers to food was outstanding."

  • "Having traveled in Italy I approach American Italian restaurants with high expectations. Ca' Dario doesn't disappoint. Menu selections are varied, prices reasonable. Chef Furlati's kitchen turns out a satisfying meal, appealing to the eye and taste buds without going over the top with flourishes and garnishes that foodies seem to expect and equate with quality cuisine. Antipasti and pasta courses are so filling that you may not have room for dessert, so I recommend the cappuccino fuerte with its thick spoonable foam and smoky-flavored espresso. Don't expect cinnamon or chocolate powder; the brew stands on its own. Ca' Dario is my to-go place in Santa Barbara for hearty wholesome Italian cuisine served up by an affable attentive staff."

  • "Comfortable dining, great service, attention to detail. The menu has something for everyone, vegan, vegetarian, meat eater, light or heavy eater. The pastas are homemade and to melt in your mouth. Try the Ravioli with brown sage sauce and the Wild Mushroom Risotto."

  • "The menu was varied and extensive, including dishes one might actually dine on in Italy. The decor classy not tacky. It was a little noisy for our group of five, and the space tight. The food shone."

  • "Food was excellent! Tables and spacing were very cramped which made it less romantic. Very loud atmosphere. Service was friendly but not very attentive. Still worth going to."

  • "I love how it feels like you are in Italy with the dark wood interior, lively bar and great authentic Italian dishes. Tables are close together but can still feel fun to have an intimate dinner. I love the tagliatelle bolognese and risotto dishes. The staff is great and welcoming-- from the maitre d to all the wait staff-- even on busy nights."
