"Beautifully located on its own small beach, Brown's Beach House offers a great setting for sunset dining on well prepared food in albeit relatively small portions.
Our 10 yr old daughter loves crab cakes, but a full entree is way too much food for her, so she typically has the appetizer crab cakes that in most any cases are plenty of food to make her happy. Well, here she wanted to finish the entire baguette after the crab cake, as her portion was just a little bigger than a dollar coin. Our other daughter LOVED the home made chicken noodle soup, and I must say, it was delicious (we have a habit of always tasting our kids' food).
My wife's Ono was wonderful and so was my trio of locally caught fish.
Expensive but absolutely worth a visi"

"One of the first things you notice is the beautiful view. The service is excellent and friendly. This is an upscale restaurant at the Fairmont so prices are expensive but well worth it. Ordered seafood trio - liked two out of the three fish; seafood linguine was delicious, especially the scallops - very tender. Snicker bar dessert was delicious if you love mac nuts."

"Our first time here. Our party of four was wowed by the speculatar ocean view, the beautiful sunset and the courtesy of the waitstaff. The entres were all superb. Our waitress was a little slow and forgetful (e.g., in pouring the wine) but that was a minor flaw compared to the elegance of the overall dining experience."

"The food and service were great. We were sitting somewhat close to the hostess stand which I didn't love, but the food more than made up for that. We had a 7:30 reservation, and I would do it a bit early if possible next time so we could enjoy more of the view."

"We booked 45 minutes prior to sunset for our anniversary dinner. The setting is beautiful. The sunset was amazing. It was a little breezy and cool once the sun went down and some of the later arrivals chose to be seated inside but I think this particular evening was unusually cool. Prices were moderately expensive as we expected. Food was quite good. Portions were somewhat small - left plenty of room for dessert. They were out of the butterfish that night but the ono and kampachi were quite good. Drinks were expensive but again as expected. Overall I rate the experience 5 star for the setting with the food being quite respectable."

"We ate at Brown's twice during our week here. First time was great- excellent service, very good food, especially for a resort-hotel restaurant. So we went back... the second time we had to wait a long time for a table despite a reservation (that part is not a big deal), but after we were seated at least 15 minutes went by with no waiter, and when we did get help the service was not good, which really took the edge off our experience. So if you go it's probably worth asking to be seated in an area with an experienced waiter/waitress."

"The food was great, the service was great, and the view is amazing. However, the price is pretty steep considering there are a lot of great food places in Hawaii with a great view.....just not so many in the immediate neighborhood. Still....a memorable way to spend your last night on the Big Island."
