A word from Brigantine Point Loma
A San Diego tradition since 1969, the Brigantine has received many accolades in our 40+ year history: "BEST SEAFOOD", "BEST CASUAL SEAFOOD", "BEST HAPPY HOUR", and even "BEST SWORDFISH IN THE WORLD", according to USA Today - just to name a few.

Beautifully remodeled in early 2009, the Brigantine is well-known for the signature Clam Chowder, Grilled Swordfish, and Crème Brûlée. The Brigantine is a favorite among locals for consistently fresh seafood, succulent steaks and grilled meats.

Home to the America's Cup until 1995, Shelter Island is still the yachting center of San Diego. The Brigantine offers glimpses of this busy marina from the outdoor patio and semi-private banquet areas.

The Point Loma Brigantine serves dinner 7 nights a week, and lunch Monday-Saturday. Join us for our signature Happy Hour.

  • "Had forgot about The Brigantine Restaurant on Shelter Island. After attending a fundraiser and winning a gift card, my wife and I went for an early dinner. What a nice surprise! The ambience, the customer service and the great food made for a wonderful evening - we will definitely be back! The early bird three course dinner is a great deal and offers some tasty options. We love sitting up high in the comfortable booths and looking out over the marina. The presentation of the food and the staff make for a definite 5 star experience."

  • "We took a friend who was in town, it was our first time there, but the reviews were mostly positive. It was Monday, so there were happy hour prices all evening in the bar. The featured wines were nice, we each had our preferred varietal at $1 off a glass. We ordered a variety of appetizers and small plates. The blackened ahi sashimi, the sliders and coconut shrimp skewers were all excellent. We got the ahi twice, it was so good! The Napa Valley nachos were good too. The smoked chicken taquitos were meh. I would definitely return."

  • "Restaurant is beautiful and the food and service were great. would like to come back again soon. My one draw back was that the bus boy kept wanting to clear the plates and I was not done eating my meal. I think that he was able to remove the bread basket and there was still some left. I will have to make sure he does not do the next time I dine there."

  • "We were seated in a spacious booth right at 5:00, which was the time of our reservation. We ordered drinks, which were tasty. I had the crabcake dinner with mash potatoes, and my friend had halibut with some kind of potato side. I thought the crabcakes were slightly undercooked, so I ate the outside and left the mushy center on the plate. My friend really enjoyed her halibut and cleaned her plate. For desert, I had the creme brulee, which was pretty good and my friend had a chocolate cake that she said was delicious. Overall, the experience was pretty good. Server was attentive and plates were cleared very quickly. I would try it again, just not the crab cakes."

  • "We went to Brigantine for the first time last week. We have a one-and-a-half year old at home, so we don't get out for a date often and when we do we really hope for a great experience. Our experience at the Brigantine was perfect. The service was excellent (Felix was our server), the food was great (recommend the crab cakes), and the atmosphere was romantic even though it's a family-friendly restaurant. The cocktails were also fantastic (try the the Cucumber Cooler and/or Dirty Goose Martini). We also lingered for quite awhile after finishing our meal, and we never felt rushed...totally relaxed and comfortable. It was just a wonderful overall experience, and this will definitely be one of our regular venues on date night."

  • "Took my wife out just to get some good food and have a night away from the house. Chose Brigatine's because my wife loves seafood. It was a good choice. The food was great. We had an appetizer of mussels and clams and a spinach salad. She ordered the stuffed prawns which ended up being a little too salty just due to being wrapped in bacon but they were still good. I had the crab cake dinner which was amazing. For dessert we had the apple crisp which was delicious. Good choice for dinner, will definitely be going back."

  • "Service was wonderful - Trevor was server - very polite and attentive. Only complaint - we had a Caesar salad and it had store bought croutons and the dressing tasted like it was from a bottle. I expected it to be more authentic. Other food was great. Kids as husband ordered different fish dishes, all fresh and well prepared. Cerviche was very good."

  • "My hubby and I went there for lunch on 03/08/14. We were seated immediately and chose to sit outside. Our waitress came to us almost immediately and took our drink order. We then ordered a dozen oysters (2 different varieties) which were AMAZING!! They rivaled oysters from N. Bend/Coos Bay, OR. We moved onto their Seared Ahi Tuna and Ceviche, they were average at best. The Ahi was seared to the point of being dry and the slices were the smallest we've ever seen. The Ceviche was more veggies than fish and shrimp. Lastly, we had their Fried Calamari, it was awful, limp and soggy. We kept hoping for a crispy piece but never got one, very disappointing. Needless to say, the view, service and oysters are the only thing we can recommend."

  • "This was our second time there. First time, we ate in the lounge. The lounge is made for talking and having a great time with friends. We went a second time with friends from out of town and sat in the dining area. It was nice and quaint. My son was getting restless and walkign around, but thank goodness no one was extremely close or irritated. I love the place."

We did ask if we could be moved to a booth but was told that they are only for parties of 3 - however by the time we left we noticed a few booths with 4 people - this was our only disappontment.   • "Flying into San Diego and want to kick off your stay with a great dinner? Make a reservation at Brigatine. Following the advice of online reviews, I made a reservation in advance, asked the hotel concierge or check in clerk for a referral coupon granting us a free house appetizer and we ordered the locally caught swordfish. The house appetizer included deep fried artichokes with a lemon aioli that were amazing, a ground beef tacito and shrimp ceviche on nacho chips. Our swordfish entrees and sides were excellent. Our waiter was EXCELLENT! From 5-7 pm they offer a 3-course meal (appetizer, entree and dessert from list of selections posted on their web site) for $25, which is a great deal compared with their regular prices."

  • "Unfortunately this place doesn't have wonderful food. Just your average seafood restaurant fare. You could get the same food in a land locked state. I just thought it would be better because it is by the water. The service was OK. Not bad, but the server did not go out of his way to describe the food to us. Basically it's a dressed up chain restaurant. If you're taking a bunch of older folks out to lunch or dinner, this would be a good place. For the young and hip, I'd recommend Island Prime or C Level."

  • "Great meal and ambiance for Valentine's Day. Had the macadamia crusted mahi mahi - scrumptious - and the swordfish grilled with citrus - delicious. Portions just right. But they saved the best for last. The smores brownie (graham cracker crust with brownie, melted marshmallows, dulce le leche ice cream, drizzled with caramel and chopped up toffee bars) was out of this world. We will be back at this Brigantine (or another) definitely."

  • "I made a reservation for my wife and I on our "date night". I decided to pick up some flowers for something a little more special, but wanted to surprise my wife instead of having them just sitting at home, so I called and asked if I could drop them off and have them bring them out once we were seated. When we arrived, they asked us to wait as our table was being prepared. They went out of their way to find a vase and had the flowers set up at the table in a beautiful display for my wife. And on top of that, one of the staff hand made a very thoughtful card for us!! Thank you to the staff and our waiter that went the extra mile to make our date night much more special! Oh, and try the sand dabs...they are delicious!!!"

  • "I should have known better. The dining room was upscale and nicely quiet, the staff attentive and service quick. My husband really enjoyed his salmon dinner and all it's sides. My steak however was over cooked and the 'melted carmelized onion butter glaze' was a pat of unmelted herbed butter resting on top of a piece of meat. The 'seasonal vegetables' were steamed green bean and carrots and the mashed potatoes tasted like they came from a box. The meal felt and tasted like they put no thought into it at all. But I should have known better than to order steak at a seafood restaurant!"

  • "I only order fish because it is so good here. The meat dishes are probably just as good but have never tried any. We had the swordfish on a previous visit and it was out of this world. On our most recent visit, the swordfish was wonderful but not quite up to the standard set by the previous meal. This is not meant to be a complaint but only that the bar was set very high and hard to beat. The service was outstanding and I recommend the Brigantine in Pt Loma without any hesitation."

  • "We went on new year's eve. Didn't have a special menu. Had only one entree special and I was surprised that a seafood restaurant had a short rib special but no seafood special. Wife ordered cioppino which was excellent! I had fish and chips which was at best average and thats why food not rated higher. The server seemed distracted, more interested in who was coming in versus serving us so I couldn't rate service higher. We had wine which was good but would like to see more california reds available by the glass. Server never refilled my water glass even though it was empty before plate was finished. Overall a nice place to dine but I would order something else next time."
