A word from Brigantine Point Loma
A San Diego tradition since 1969, the Brigantine has received many accolades in our 40+ year history: "BEST SEAFOOD", "BEST CASUAL SEAFOOD", "BEST HAPPY HOUR", and even "BEST SWORDFISH IN THE WORLD", according to USA Today - just to name a few.

Beautifully remodeled in early 2009, the Brigantine is well-known for the signature Clam Chowder, Grilled Swordfish, and Crème Brûlée. The Brigantine is a favorite among locals for consistently fresh seafood, succulent steaks and grilled meats.

Home to the America's Cup until 1995, Shelter Island is still the yachting center of San Diego. The Brigantine offers glimpses of this busy marina from the outdoor patio and semi-private banquet areas.

The Point Loma Brigantine serves dinner 7 nights a week, and lunch Monday-Saturday. Join us for our signature Happy Hour.

Diner Reviews
  • "This Brigantine continues to be our favorite. The renovation done over the past years has transformed not only the ambience, but also the attitude of the staff and maybe even the food... While the chowder could still use more identifiable clams (I think they chop them too small) it tastes great. The local halibut done as beer battered fish and chips is perfect. Usually the fish tacos are on order, and I am sure they are still great, this time we had a Burger and it was perfect. The Brig's own chardonnay is just fine and priced right."

  • "My wife and I visited Brigantine to use a gift card and discovered we were there on "Taco Tuesday" So, we ordered tacos and some clam chowder. The food was really good. We weren't previously aware of taco tuesday which turned out to be a great deal. We will be back now that we are aware of this special."

  • "Excellent meal and service. The restaurant was full so the noise level was fairly high but not unbearable. No wait with reservations but 20 minutes without at 5:30 PM on Sunday."

  • "Been to several of the Brigentine restaurants and this by far is the best. The location for a concert (Ringo and His All Starr Band) at Humphrey's was perfect. We had reservations for 6pm. Arrived a little early and were accommodated right then. It allowed us to take our time before taking the ten minute walk over to the concert. The staff was excellent and our waiter was very professional and had a lot of great suggestions off of the menu for us. As stated above, we will be back."

  • "We had a lovely dining experience. We had to walk around the building to find the elevator (my mother-in-law had just had knee surgery) and then had to call for the elevator but were greeted by two lovely hostesses and guided through the kitchen (a peek behind the scenes - so clean!) and to our table. Our server, Tanner, was excellent and knowledgeable making recommendations and answering all of our queries. Our order consisted of chowder (tasty - thick, with hints of bacon!), side salad (fresh and delicious), the half lobster and crab Cobb, and the seafood bouillabaisse (rave reviews). The only complaint was that the lobster and crab with the Cobb was a little watery and tasteless - though the rest of that salad was excellent!"

  • "The food was good and the service was average. It was my birthday and noted that on reservation but no acknowledgment. I ordered second glass of wine and it never came until I finished the meal. The halibut was outstanding that was encrusted with macadamia and light coconut"

  • "We arrived about 15 minutes late for our reservation, but there was no problem seating us. No water views here. A bit surprised by that. I had the swordfish (thin sliced and a bit dry) and was a bit disappointed. My friend from Seattle, ate the encrusted halibut and that was terrific. A nice thick slice of fish was served over potato. Taking a sea-foodie out in San Diego was a tough choice. I'm glad I got the least tasty of the fish orders and he enjoyed his. Veggies were crisp and tasty, a bit too much salt for me, but I don't use it, so I can taste it when it's part of the spice palette. The house chardonnay was good. The dark bread and garlic butter was super. Service was fantastic and a good tip reflected that. We'd dine there again."

  • "I never give bad reviews but I would like to make a point because i think they can improve if are interested not spoiling their place with time. it truly repels people when after 2 minutes of bringing food weiter is asking if we are ready to pack it and go. After 2 times it is annoying, and in 8 minutes he was asking when he can bring us a check when desert of fresh catch menu didn't even arrive. You feel not welcomed, and after a while not enjoying your time any more. He in addition made a mistake in out bill, more in wine part, which just added to entire picture of not being welcomed in this place. We gave him a tip of less then 15% hoping it was an indication for him that we didn't like his service."

  • "Tyler, our waiter, was the BEST! Service was top-notch and even as the restaurant filled up, everything kept to a timely manner. You could see that everyone was enjoying themselves in the restaurant/bar. AND, the hockey game was on!!! Go Kings!! Excellent food. Thank you."

  • "The Brigantine Pt Loma lived up to the ratings I found on the internet. We were visiting San Diego for a wedding. We made a reservation online which was easy to do. Then arrived at our reserved time of 6 p.m. and were immediately shown to our table. Our grandson has a severe dairy allergy so we asked if they could make him some vegetables without butter. They had no problem with the request. The wait staff was excellent with perfect timing between courses. We each had a different dinner that was perfect. We would absolutely return again and definitely recommend it to anyone."

  • "We have been to this restaurant several times and sorry to say this time it just did not measure up. The Brigantine has not been consistent in my opinion compared to the last time we had dinner there. The vegetables were not cooked properly (practically raw green beans and carrots) and the chicken piccata was chewy. The other diners in my party were not that pleased with their dinner either. "

  • "The Brigantine in Point Loma in Point Loma is one of those places that provide the type of ambience that provides for a very relaxing meal. Their customer service is outstanding and their food is delicious, well presented and their early bird specials are a real treat. I would highly recommend them for an intimate, great meal - we will be back soon!"

  • "From AZ, and have been to Brigantine when I lived in SD...always thought it was good, but food was wonderful this time! Loved the Swordfish, and complementary appetizers. Sat outside, and even though it was hot in SD that day, evening dining outside was perfect. Great wait staff! Don't get much fresh seafood in Prescott, so truly enjoyed the meal. My brother had Crab cakes that were also delicious. Thanks for enjoyable dining!"

  • "We used Yelp to locate a good restaurant in the Shelter Island area of San Diego. We were there for a conference and were unfamiliar with the area. The reviews were good for the Brigantine, so we decided to check it out. We were a party of four and all had a dish from the pre-fix menu. At the end, all of our plates were clean and everyone enjoyed their meals. Our server was very friendly and knowledgeable."

  • "Had forgot about The Brigantine Restaurant on Shelter Island. After attending a fundraiser and winning a gift card, my wife and I went for an early dinner. What a nice surprise! The ambience, the customer service and the great food made for a wonderful evening - we will definitely be back! The early bird three course dinner is a great deal and offers some tasty options. We love sitting up high in the comfortable booths and looking out over the marina. The presentation of the food and the staff make for a definite 5 star experience."

  • "We took a friend who was in town, it was our first time there, but the reviews were mostly positive. It was Monday, so there were happy hour prices all evening in the bar. The featured wines were nice, we each had our preferred varietal at $1 off a glass. We ordered a variety of appetizers and small plates. The blackened ahi sashimi, the sliders and coconut shrimp skewers were all excellent. We got the ahi twice, it was so good! The Napa Valley nachos were good too. The smoked chicken taquitos were meh. I would definitely return."

  • "Restaurant is beautiful and the food and service were great. would like to come back again soon. My one draw back was that the bus boy kept wanting to clear the plates and I was not done eating my meal. I think that he was able to remove the bread basket and there was still some left. I will have to make sure he does not do the next time I dine there."

  • "Went to Brigantine Point Loma before the Willie Nelson concert. We always enjoy out meals at the Brig and this night was great! Had the sea bass and crab cakes-both were very tasty!"

  • "We were seated in a spacious booth right at 5:00, which was the time of our reservation. We ordered drinks, which were tasty. I had the crabcake dinner with mash potatoes, and my friend had halibut with some kind of potato side. I thought the crabcakes were slightly undercooked, so I ate the outside and left the mushy center on the plate. My friend really enjoyed her halibut and cleaned her plate. For desert, I had the creme brulee, which was pretty good and my friend had a chocolate cake that she said was delicious. Overall, the experience was pretty good. Server was attentive and plates were cleared very quickly. I would try it again, just not the crab cakes."

  • "We went to Brigantine for the first time last week. We have a one-and-a-half year old at home, so we don't get out for a date often and when we do we really hope for a great experience. Our experience at the Brigantine was perfect. The service was excellent (Felix was our server), the food was great (recommend the crab cakes), and the atmosphere was romantic even though it's a family-friendly restaurant. The cocktails were also fantastic (try the the Cucumber Cooler and/or Dirty Goose Martini). We also lingered for quite awhile after finishing our meal, and we never felt rushed...totally relaxed and comfortable. It was just a wonderful overall experience, and this will definitely be one of our regular venues on date night."

  • "Took my wife out just to get some good food and have a night away from the house. Chose Brigatine's because my wife loves seafood. It was a good choice. The food was great. We had an appetizer of mussels and clams and a spinach salad. She ordered the stuffed prawns which ended up being a little too salty just due to being wrapped in bacon but they were still good. I had the crab cake dinner which was amazing. For dessert we had the apple crisp which was delicious. Good choice for dinner, will definitely be going back."

  • "Service was wonderful - Trevor was server - very polite and attentive. Only complaint - we had a Caesar salad and it had store bought croutons and the dressing tasted like it was from a bottle. I expected it to be more authentic. Other food was great. Kids as husband ordered different fish dishes, all fresh and well prepared. Cerviche was very good."

  • "My hubby and I went there for lunch on 03/08/14. We were seated immediately and chose to sit outside. Our waitress came to us almost immediately and took our drink order. We then ordered a dozen oysters (2 different varieties) which were AMAZING!! They rivaled oysters from N. Bend/Coos Bay, OR. We moved onto their Seared Ahi Tuna and Ceviche, they were average at best. The Ahi was seared to the point of being dry and the slices were the smallest we've ever seen. The Ceviche was more veggies than fish and shrimp. Lastly, we had their Fried Calamari, it was awful, limp and soggy. We kept hoping for a crispy piece but never got one, very disappointing. Needless to say, the view, service and oysters are the only thing we can recommend."

  • "We decided at the last minute to go to a close by restaurant as we had a long day and were tired. The front desk suggested this as one of several close by eateries. We were pleasantly surprised with great food and exceptional service. It's a no miss spot to eat."

  • "Had 4 in our party & really wouldve preferred a booth - we had an early reservation so there were plenty of booths when we arrived. We did ask if we could be moved to a booth but was told that they are only for parties of 3 - however by the time we left we noticed a few booths with 4 people - this was our only disappontment. Otherwise the evening was perfect."

  • "This was our second time there. First time, we ate in the lounge. The lounge is made for talking and having a great time with friends. We went a second time with friends from out of town and sat in the dining area. It was nice and quaint. My son was getting restless and walkign around, but thank goodness no one was extremely close or irritated. I love the place."
