Diner Reviews
  • "We had the crab cake, flounder stuffed with crab, sea bass and park chop. Everything was delicious. The only comment would be that the sea bass could have been a little less done. The crab was pretty darn incredible!!"

  • "As always I was very pleased with my dining experience. The food was great and the waiter was top notch. I will continue to dine at bookbinders when friends come to town."

  • "My wife and I have made Bookbinders a tradition for our anniversary celebrations since moving back to Richmond. Our server was Jason who was very good, checked on us enough that we did not need to ask for anything but not too much. I always recommend Bookbinders over Mortons and Ruth Cris. Keep up the good work."

  • "The food and service is always excellent! I always love it there but this time my husband I ordered filet mignon and it was so dry because it was over cooked. However that is not the norm; usually it's perfect. I would still recommend Bookbinder's. I think this was an exception. Therefore, I had to rate it according to this dining experience."

  • "We made reservation through Open Table and we were seated on time. The menu was explained to us along with specials. The atmosphere was awesome and the view of the canal and city was great. The food was phenomenal and the waitress handled everything flawlessly. The baked corn with white cheddar side dish was yummy. There were 4 of us and it couldn't have went any better. Try this place, you will love it."

  • "We will definitely be returning to Bookbinder's. Our entire dining experience was perfection. Our food was cooked perfectly and full of flavor. Our service was on point and she was very personable. Dessert was wonderful."

  • "From uniquely prepared and correctly cooked food, to wait staff serving each course only after previous item was consumed and cleared. Owner and entire staff were very friendly and helpful."
    Dined on 3/29/2014
  • "This was a special occasion and we enjoyed the menu with names...great touch. The food was great except for the chicken which was tough. Very pricey for the quality of the food. Overall it was nice, but not quit what I was hoping for."

  • "Excellent food, great service. A truly fine restaurant!"

  • "The 4-top we were seated at was a little too small to accomodate 4 adults with drinks, wine, water, bread and menus. Waiter was extremely busy and a little forgetful on delivery of drinks. Otherwise, we had a wonderful meal and will definetly return."

  • "I love this place, the food is always excellent, superb service as well. But it comes at a price! You will likely need a Benjamin for each adult in your party."

  • "My wife and I have been going to celebrate Christmas at Bookbinder's for the past several years. The service was outstanding. The food was excellent as always."
    Dined on 12/22/2013
  • "We went to celebrate my wife's birthday. It was our first, and likely only, visit. The food was good, but not great and definitely not worth the price! The best item we had was the crab cake, which really was delicious! All in all, our experience did not warrants return visit."

  • "I had the pleasure to invite 2 couples to dinner at the Bookbinder's Restaurant. One of the couples had been there before and the as the 1st time love it. The 2nd couple had never been there but they could not stop saying how great the food was. The service was outstanding. They all had a glass of the house wine they could not stop talking about how good it was. From the Owner, to the GM, the cook our waitress and the whole staff was outstanding. Both couples stated that they would be coming back again for one of the best meals and times they have had in quite a while. Thanks so much to everyone for making it such a nice evening. We will be back again."

  • "Shrimp cocktail with a spicy delicious cocktail sauce and crisp fresh shrimp. Arugula salad had tangy lemony dressing that was just right for the spicy lettuce. The crab cake was sad, however: mushy and stringy with perhaps 2 little lumps of crabmeat - odd texture , no real flavor and overall a real disappointment - bleccchh.... Cheerful and efficient service, nice wines by the glass."

  • "First time visit...for my wife's birthday. Everything was great. Good food, ambiance and waitstaff. Noisy table with 5 young men was a little annoying, but...overall great dinner experience. Will return."

  • "We recently visited Old Original Bookbinders, celebrating a birthday. The food was excellent, the service was good. The prices are a little high, but I guess what do you expect for a nice dinner in the Bottom. All in all, a great night."

  • "Everything the BookBinders team did, from my reservation to the flowers on the table, the personalized menu for my wife's birthday and the extra help with making a menu choice were saturated with just the right attention to our needs and to the details of a great dinning experience."

Service was exceptional- our selections were prompt and the wine selection, appetizers, entries, dessert were exceptional! Bookbinders provides outstanding food and is a very special experience for the diner."

  • "We go to Bookbinders regularly. The steaks are always excellent as is all the food. They always try to seat us at the table we got engaged at, even if we forget to ask for it. I loved the personalized menu for our anniversary! The staff is also excellent."

  • "Took our 12 year old to celebrate Straight A's. Had a wonderful time. The food was outstanding and the service was excellent."

  • "Pittsburg style steak rib eye was charred beyond being edible. There was a rib eye special offering that evening. It came with a way too salty red wine sauce that drowned the steak and the plate. There was very little marble in the cut: not usual for rib eye. Sides were delicious and everything was beautifully presented. Our waitperson was a bit standoffish, which we found somewhat odd, given the very outgoing personality of the owner (?)/manager. All and all would definitely go there again."

  • "Our favorite spot to go when we desire consistent quality food and service at a fair price. We come here for our anniversary, as well as to entertain clients and friends. We have had groups up to 20 invited as we made presentations for our companies products. Everyone that comes is always impressed as we conduct a survey of the venue. Best lump crab cake ever!"

  • "My expectations were high for this restaurant but some expects from the evening were disappointing."

  • "My date and I really enjoyed the food and the service was what should be expected from a high end restaurant; however, the seating in some areas of the restaurant is almost claustrophobic. The one room in the back that has presidents on the walls is almost like a dungeon. It is too confined and rather stuffy. If you don't mind close quarters and the table next to you hearing your conversation (mainly because the room is so small and sound echoes) then you should have no issues. The rest of the place looked great! Just wish we sat any place other than the presidents room. Neat concept, but too confined!"

  • "Just another celebratory visit to our favorite restaurant where we were not let down even a little. Our favorite server (Patrice), even though she was slammed, still managed to give us the special attention that we have grown to love from her. The food, from the shrimp cocktail (best on the planet in my opinion) to the lobster tail (scrumptious)!"

  • "The food was good not great! Loved the Martini. After reading about this restaurant I was expecting a dining experience and food that I would dream about. Instead we had a good meal that did not match the price we paid."

  • "I wanted to write these few lines about our Valentine's Day at Bookbinder's. I read good reviews about this place on OpenTable, so I decided to spend a romantic time there with my spouse on Valentine's day. We were not disappointed. The place is cosy, the food and service were great. We had a wonderful experience my wife and I. We will return as often as possible, and I would strongly recommend this restaurant. Great job to you all at Bookbinder's !!!"

  • "We enjoyed everything about our experience at Bookbinder's. Morgan, our server, was attentive and kind; the food was spectacular (I had two specials: cream of porcini mushroom soup and red snapper, my partner had Caesar salad and the pork chop); the restaurant is beautiful, quiet and romantic; and, we were not rushed through our meal. Everything was fabulous and we highly recommend it to everyone! One of the best fine dining restaurants in Metro Richmond. Excellent!"

  • "We went there for Valentines. Since we are gluten intolerant, I did call to inquire about the menu. Each conversation I had was professional and on point. Tough reservation to get, but worth the wait! The food was great, never felt we were being rushed. Never felt like we were being up sold on menu items. Each time we asked for a slight modification, like something on the side, they cheerfully accommodated us. Really a terrific place to dine and we will be back."
