Diner Reviews
  • "Je recommande ce restaurant, nous avons pris le menu dégustation et tout était très bon, c'était un soir de semaine tranquille, ils ont dû changer trois fois de serveur mais tous ont été parfait. Merci pour cette belle soirée. "

  • "Bonaparte is great for pre-theater dinner. They offer a theater special which has many options and served quickly. Very Good."

  • "I use to have diner in Bonaparte restaurant once a year for my daughter's birthday. She is absolutely crazy with fat duck. We had maple sirup caramelised onion soup to start with, my daughter had a preserved leg of fat duck, I had a piece of beef. We had a maple syrup little pie with red fruits. The soup was good but far less tasty than a "normal" onion soup you can have in less fancy restaurants in Montreal. Either the duck had a long life running or was definitely overcooked. The skin was not crispy, the meat was dry and the taste was much closer to the one of a normal duck than a fat one. The piece of meat was good and cooked to my liking but the vegetables were prepared without any imagination. The dessert was perfect."

  • "A great way to prepare for the theater. If you are looking for a pleasant atmosphere, exquisite food, excellent service and courteous staff who have your comfort and palate in mind, The Bonaparte is highly recommended. What a wonderful way to begin your evening out at the Centaur theater."

  • "We had a small group (8) dinner @ Bonaparte as part of an international conference. The major disappointment was our table was crammed beside another large table and waiters/diners kept bumping each other throughout the evening. This was a major distraction to good food/conversation and effectively spoiled what should have been a great evening. The meal (food) was very good and we all felt super value for money. Had I not had many positive experiences over the years at this restaurant I likely would not return (which I will)."

  • "Lovely setting for a quiet romantic dinner. Very attentive service, 3 courses thoroughly enjoyed by all at the table."

  • "It has been a few years since we last ate at Bonaparte - what a difference! The food was delicious, creative and satisfying. We were most impressed by the staff who were young, knowledgeable and professional. The four of us who dined together were 'foodies' and world travelled - we all thought this was a great place!"

  • "Our party of four celebrated my wife's birthday with dinner at the Bonaparte. Everything was purrr-fect. (That's my wife purring)."

  • "I had not been to Bonaparte in a couple of years, but was happy to discover that it was as outstanding as I had remebered. My mushrrom raviloi was perfect, the loster stew with a hint of vanilla (yes..vanilla) was scrumptious, and the souffle with dollops of chocolate was the perfect finish. Won't be waiting as long to return again."

  • "Hadn't been to Bonaparte in some years. Won't be so long in future. Dinner was outstanding, with flawless service and pleasant ambience. Had a choice of three tables ... opted for the small back room. Very quiet!"

  • "Excellent restaurant to wine and dine. Food was exceptional. Wine was very good. Service was a little on the slow side as it appeared that the restaurant was short one or two waiters."

  • "This was my second time at this restaurant and I was impressed again. It's atmosphere is casual yet classy. The staff were excellent, attentive but not intrusively so. The menus offered variety and good value for money. The washroom was immaculate, can't say that about 95% of the restaurants I visit. The service was at a relaxed pace, ideal for a special occasion. The food was very good."

  • "My husband and I joined friends in town from South Carolina. We are all "foodies" and wanted to experience a good french fine-dining experience. We definitely found it at Bonaparte. We did the 7 course tasting menu. Everything was very good and beautifully presented. My only note would be, it would have been nice to see a bit more variety in the sides on the main dishes (they were all the same), and the dessert was a bit underwhelming after such a nice dinner."

  • "Wonderful food, smooth and attentive service, perfect pace ...just a lovely place to dine and relax in Old Montreal."

  • "Discretely located in Old Montreal, the restaurant provide a range of dining options. We chose the degustation menu which was well priced. The sommelier (also the restaurant manager) suggested a good 2003 French-sourced white Burgundy which turned out to be better than I had expected (but somewhat different from a comparable Australian Chardonnay which can be "overweight" when compared to French wines). Food and course spacing was appropriate and this gave us time to enjoy our meal. We were the last the leave the restaurant after having a great night. Thank you to all at Bonaparte"

  • "My wife and I have been attending plays at Centaur for decades and we almost always eat dinner at Bonaparte beforehand. As soon as you enter the restaurant, one of the waiters always asks if we will be attending the play at Centaur. From then on, they make certain that your meal will be finished with sufficient time to do the short walk to the theatre. Invariably, I choose the items listed in the Table D'Hote, and I had a very delicious carrot soup and a succulent Mahi-Mahi for my main course during our recent visit. The waiter that served us at our last meal was most attentive, knowledgeable about the food selection, and had one of the most beautiful smiles that I have ever seen. She even sent me an email reminder about our reservation!"

  • "Excellent food, on par with the best we've had: varied and high quality menu selections. Catherine was the star attraction of the night. She served us, sat us,and took our orders. As busy as she was, Catherine was charming, calm, and knowledgeable. In short, she was a big reason my wife felt it was one of the 2 best restaurant experience in her 54 years. The Dover sole was divine, If you like fish, you've got to try it."

  • "Once a year we visit Montreal and always dine at Bonaparte. Thoroughly enjoy the location, service, menu, and historic structure. Every dining experience is excellent. Continues to meet our expectations year after year."

  • "This place is really nice but it is without imagination. The food is fine but so boring! This cuisine was popular back in the 80s. Everything from the design of the diningroom to the glassware and cutlery is sooo dull. I am surprised Bonaparte is stil around and they haven't reimagined it as something more contemporary. Great service though. But the food is uninspired."

  • "On a recent trip to Montreal Bonaparte was recommended by a friend. As we were celebrating my girlfriends 30th birthday I mentioned this in the reservation notes section. When we arrived the maître d'hôtel said she had a special table waiting for us. It was a nice table by the window, cozy with a great view of the street. The food was phenomenal. She recommended a great bottle of wine with our tasting menu. Service was thorough and impeccable. Overall a wonderful dining experience."

  • "Nice location amongst narrow streets of Old Montreal. Cosy dining room and lively bar. Mushroom ravioli appetiser was delicious, the bartender knew how to make a pink lady cocktail and our request for a non-menu item of grand marnier souffle was satisfied with no hesitation. All-in-all a very pleasant evening offering good food, pleasant atmosphere and very good service."

  • "Girlfriend and I went for a romantic dinner. Spent nearly 2.5 hours and it flew by. Amazing food, great window seat overlooking the cobble stone streets. Went with the mid-priced fixed price menu and a few glasses of wine each. Pleanty of perfectly prepared and complimentary food courses and attentive (and honest when it came to advice regarding the various food options) service. Maybe we just hit it on a great night - but 5 stars is about right for our experience!"

  • "It took the waiter 30 minutes to come and take our order. We usually had to ask for each item twice. eg. bread, condiments etc. I asked for decaf coffee and confirmed it when he placed it on the table but at 4am in the morning realized he had not served me decaf. I suspected as much because usually waiters do something to differentiate the coffees and when he placed them on the table, each cup was the same."

  • "Have dined at Bonaparte on many occasions spanning 15 years or so and this was not their best performance. The salmon tournedos and chicken main courses were disappointing for my guests, although my roasted duck breast was superb as usual. The creme brulee was very nice. While my individual meal was excellent, the consensus was that Bonaparte emerged as the least favorite of the restaurants chosen during our recent visit, December 18-22, 2013."

  • "Our party of 7 had dinner at the Bonaparte on Christmas Eve and everyone loved their meal. The ambiance was perfect and the service was impeccable. They were very accommodating with our 5 year old daughter as well (if your toddler can't sit quietly during a 2hr meal, this isn't the right restaurant for you). It's a dressy place, no tie required but nice clothes are in order. Parking was easy. I highly recommend this restaurant. Wonderful time and great memories for years to come. The mushroom raviolis and foie gras creme brûlée were amazing. Good wine selection."

  • "Bonaparte is a classical french restaurant in the heart of Old-Montreal. The food, service and ambiance are excellent. The mushroom ravioli is one of the most exquisite dishes I have ever tasted. A classy restaurant to celebrate your special occasions."
