She explained the small portions and encouraged us to order a variety of things and pointed out the 6 - 8 serving package. Since there were 6 of us, we agreed and ordered away. The food started coming and coming and coming and coming... We finally told her to box the last 2 things (the main courses of paella and the steak and potatoes) without even bringing them, and still had to have her box up at least half of the tapas that she had brought us. Maybe the portions were correct for 6 - 8 starving football players, but beware if you are a normal person! There is also a good atmosphere and it felt more intimate because of the separate rooms. The only negative was when we (my husband and I) were sat at a small table against a wall right next to a larger group with a baby even though there were many other open tables. I know tapas are supposed to be staggered but not THAT far part The kitchen was being exremely slow. The wine list is a real gem, with very fair pricing for a large range of good to great Spanish wines available in tastes, glasses and flights as well as bottles. We were seated at a great U-shaped table near the kitchen. We chose the "Bocado experience" so we could sample lots of food and there was so much of it! we started with yummy cheeses, meats, breads. And then sampled the stuffed eggplant, pork meatballs, rice balls, chicken croquettes and shrip. We ended up taking our paella to go! It ranks among the best. Fairly priced, generous portions, great selection. A fun and satisfying urban restaurant. Tapas isn't common in our neighborhood, so maybe after finding this exceptional spot we will make an effort to visit Worcester and this neighborhood more often.3/29/2013 12:00:00 AMThe only reason I didn't rateThe only reason I didn't rate the food as outstanding is because I have never eaten at any other tapas restaurant or travelled in Spain. I was initially taken by friends who have extensively traveled and studied in Spain and they said that Bocado's offerings were the most authentic and delicious that they had found since their return to the states.The menu can be intimidating to a novice but the staff is more than patient with questions and eager to assist putting together a meal that suits your taste. Speaking of tastes..... the sangria is fabulous with many interesting choices. For dessert, a hot,delicately crisp churro with chocolate dipping sauce was the perfect end to our meal. The lamb was great as was a lot of the smaller plates. I was confused why the pheasant sausage was ice cold...should have been room temp and the beets were rock hard. They should have been tender..not crunchy. Yellow beets are great but they need to be at least blanced to bring out the flavor. Service was good but our server was just not friendly, but she did a good job. Maybe an off night. Wine list is great...truly great choices. Very impressed by that and would definitely go again to give the food another try. I loved the menu and perhaps it was just a couple choices I had that were suspect.
