Diner Reviews
  • "This is my second time at the restaurant for a birthday celebration. The food has always been delicious. Excellent service! The oxtail fried rice and squid ink fried rice is amazing!! Wish they brought back the green tea margarita. :("

  • "Waiter was friendly but couldn't or wouldn't make any recommendations when we asked him to suggest dishes they were known for. Their fried rice which is supposedly the best thing they have is to greasy for me and it was ok, nothing to brad about. Their chicken pate was quiet good. Sushi was fresh but way to expensive. $19 for one piece of Toro, seriously Scene is vibrant, place has real ambiance to it. Overall a decent experience but I wasn't blown away except for when I got the check. Dinner here will definitely set you back a pretty penny. Just didn't think it was worth it although I'm glad I tried it."

  • "We went for the chef's choice / omakase sushi/sashimi and it was truly extraordinary. The sashimi in particular was so diverse and magical we couldn't stop sighing and smiling with each bite. Delicate preparations, marinades, sauce and condiment combinations made each flavor a treat. The horse mackerel 2 ways is not to be missed. Then came the sushi, which was also wonderful but couldn't quite contend with the sashimi (and in fairness, we were less hungry). But the yellowtail/scallion roll was a real surprise - something so basic you would not expect it to impress but it certainly did and outshone the lobster roll. Service was quick and efficient, friendly and very helpful explaining the preparations. Well worth the $85/person price."

  • "I never complain about menu prices but when the prices on your check are about 3$ per item higher than what's on the menu, I complain... Drinks come in tiny cups spent 80$ in liquor for 2 people and I was still sober . Food was delicious but for 3 pieces of sashimi tuna price is 16$ so be prepared for fresh ingredients and a large bill to accompany it... Service was attentive"

  • "Definitely a great restaurant with the best sushi I've had in NYC. We had a nice booth off to the side for our anniversary, keep in mind this is not a white table cloth type of affair but perfectly fitting for our type of anniversary. Extremely attentive and helpful waitstaff. We would come here every week, if our wallet could afford it ;)"

  • "The food is fine but at the value that it charged, I think it is a bit over-priced. But the service is fine. The House chicken is just like KFC put in a more elegant decor setting."

  • "The space is beautiful. Truly. And our large group was treated wonderfully by the attentive wait-staff. The food was delicious. I had expected it to be more "sushi-focused," and they do have sushi, but they also had amazing fried rice and other dishes that felt more pan-Asian. A wonderful experience all around."

  • "The sushi was fresh, vibrant and pleasing visually. The ambiance was eclectic, serene and energetic. Definitely recommendable to friends, family and business colleagues. great find."

  • "I had previously dined at this restaurant and had not such a great experience due to a broken heating pipe. However, I spoke with the manager and they asked me to come back and give the restaurant another chance this time with heat. I'm glad I did. I went with a few friends for my birthday and the food was really great. We especially loved the ribs and the spicy tuna roll with tempura flakes. The service was also great and the place was very warm. I would definitely recommend the restaurant and will go again."

  • "I've been to the Blue Ribbon in Columbus Circle but like this restaurant better. It's a great space with lots of room for groups or couples. It's fun and energetic with great music! The decor is beautiful, good lighting and not stuffy. The food was excellent and green tea creme brûlée was to die for! Will definitely come back to this restaurant!"

  • "I love this place - every time the food and service is amazing! This time I took my Dad as he was in town visiting. The temperatures dropped, and hardly anyone was out, so we were seated a little early and it was actually fairly quiet there! This time they seated us near the bar - which can usually get more energetic, but it was a very chill evening. Food is always amazing - it's a must go!"

  • "Would recommend this place for a quality but not overly stuffy/formal dinner - clean and attractive yet comfortable booths line the wall next to the bar, which serves some very good cocktails plus plenty of sake, shochu, and beer. Kind of like a cleaned up / dressed up version of an izakaya. The sushi / sashimi was all solid, and some of the standouts from the rest of the menu were the pork meatball skewers, the yellowtail collar, and the banana split (which you could easily share between 4 people)."

  • "Took wife for Dinner. The unique dishes they had on starters menu were delicious. The Wasabi Honey sauce had a nice kick. The sushi served was excellent."

  • "Food was amazing, Service was on point. Tucked away in a great and lively neighborhood so that you can easily go bar hopping afterwards."

  • "amazing dishes: chicken liver mousse, beef marrow, oxtail bone marrow fried rice. the sushi here is average, nothing to write home about; instead stick to the cooked dishes, very delicious! already been here twice and looking forward to the next time. very easy to accommodate large parties, i booked a 9-person reservation for Monday at 730 pm only just the night before. we were among the earlier patrons but plenty of other parties strolled in after us."

  • "Signature Blue Ribbon Fried Chicken is still my favorite. Sushi was very good. Service could be a little more helpful deciphering the menu if you're not totally familiar with the language."

  • "We had a famiiy birthday meal for our 27 year old son for the second year in a row, both years a tremendous success. The food and the service were both great. This year our 12 week old granddaughter joined us for her first restaurant experience, and the small private room was the perfect setting."

  • "I was here to celebrate my birthday. I really like Sushi in general and my wife is a vegetarian, so I picked this place. Excellent Omakase and great vegetarian options at this Japanese restaurant."

  • "I took my folks and wife there, even though I hadn't been there before, because I assumed the B. Brothers would do what they always do with restaurants: honest homemade food, in decent portions, at reasonable prices. Instead I found the sushi equivalent of a too-cool-for-school club where (small) individual pieces of sushi can cost $9, the quality was mediocre at best and the place so loud and uncomfortable that only a trust-fund club kid could be happy there. The service, however, was terrific; polite and efficient."

  • "Avant grade sushi isn't what I expected. Taste was off, everything I had was an adventure bite. Staff was nice and did remove something from the menu which I hated but they highly recommend"

  • "My girlfriend and I have been wanting to come here for sushi for a while. I finally made a reservation for a saturday night. We were seated right away. The servers were all super nice and helpful. The sushi was great, no complaints at all. The noise level was a bit more than what I expected, but this is more of a night life kind of a restaurant which i wasn't aware of, clubby music playing in background. The prices seemed reasonable, some items were very expensive, but most of it seemed where they should be. I would definitely come back!"

  • "Every guest is welcomed with a "warm shout" by the Sushi Men. We selected the "Blu Ribbon Plate" - we really enjoyed all the sushi and sashimi proposed. Kind service."

  • "Apparently a pipe had broken earlier in the morning, so when we arrived for our reservation that evening, there was no heat. Someone from the restaurant had called that afternoon to confirm our reservation, but never mentioned the heat issue. We had to wear our jackets the entire time we were there. The waitstaff brought around hot tea for everyone, but it did little for my legs and feet which were near numb by the time we left. The food was unremarkable, but fine. I wouldn't get back nor recommend it to anyone, especially given the price of the meal. All in all, it was a very poor experience and not worth the money."

  • "I love that the staff yells a greeting as each new table is being sat. It's nice to be welcomed. The food is very tasty (Have the buttered scallop skewers and fried chicken and anything sushi related) and the staff is friendly, attentive and ready with recommendations should you be on the fence about anything. The atmosphere is really nice also. The lighting is perfect. Not too dark, but not light. The decor is warm and relaxing. A really nice night out!"

  • "kids were running around but no one (from restaurant) said anything. Waiter was not attentive (except when he collected bills. He was all of a sudden attentive enough to get our credit cards immediately). Definately over priced for the quality and for the amount of food. Three of us had to order more than 8 separate set dishes of makis and rolls. If we include appetizers, we ended up ordering 11 dishes. Very small amount of food per dish. Food was not bad but certainly you can find same or even better quality sushi/ maki in many other Japanese restaurants with more reasonable price in NYC..!!!"

  • "There was nothing disastrously wrong with this restaurant. It was perfectly 'fine'. I felt very rushed and a little condescended by the waitstaff who tried to push upon us a set menu whilst we were clearly keen to explore and make our own selections."

  • "Went for brunch/lunch... the menu is pretty diverse (from chicken with pancakes to rigatoni Bolognese, to sushi) so caters for a group's diverse cravings for a weekend brunch. All the food we ordered was very good. The highlights of the meal were the salad with ginger dressing, the crunchy spicy tuna roll and the fried chicken."

  • "Great meal, but even the server admitted he had trouble hearing himself speak. The decibel level played havoc with our ordering, having to repeat everything 3/4 times gave us a giggle first time round but grew tiresome when we had to shout how we were finding our meal etc. Don't go to Blu Ribbon for intimate chats, do go for the great and very solid sushi and extensive sake menu & a fun night. Great staff too which helps enormously"
