Diner Reviews
  • "We dined at Blue Agave this past Sunday evening and we were disappointed. The food was mediocre and the service was uneven. There was no chorizo in the "chorizo empanadas," the ceviche was not actually ceviche, the fajitas were okay, but the tacos were ice cold and inedible. We also ordered the fried ice cream, which strangely were coated in Fruity Pebbles. Our server was nowhere to be found for most of the meal, and when she did finally appear she was seemingly more concerned with the table of frat boys attempting to eat some monstrosity of a burrito, and dropped the check before she offered dessert menus and was then annoyed when we asked about dessert. My husband and I dine out ALOT, but we will not be returning to Blue Agave."

  • "We shared a guacamole appetizer it tasted like a packaged mix and the chips were blasé. The salsa and pico de gallo were horrible. The tomatoes in the pico looked like the had been cut last week. The shrimp was chopped before being put on the tacos and my husband meal was not memorable. My recommendation, go to Chevys. The food is fresher, tastier and the restaurant is cleaner."

  • "The food here is pretty good - standard Mexican fare - but nothing really stands out. Decent tequila selection, and a good selection of margaritas/mixed drinks. Noise level was pretty high at 7 pm on a Monday, but it added to the fun energy of the restaurant. My only complaint is about the bar and the speed (or lack thereof) with which they made drinks. I ordered a margarita when we sat down, and then when our meals came, I asked for a second margarita. I never did get that second drink. Our waitress apologized, saying that the bar was very backed up, but to order a drink at the beginning of the meal and still not have it by the time you're finished eating is crazy."

  • "I have eaten at this restaurant several times, and the other day was the first time I recall having bad service. The waiter(Mike) was rude. After mentioning it to my husband, he shared that this wasn't the first time the service there was sub par. The food was good, nothing outstanding. I hope my husband reminds me the next time I suggest going here to eat, so I don't have to go through this again. I'll eat somewhere else."

  • "Friends recommended Blue Agave to us since we were looking for a fun place Downtown to celebrate our 7 year anniversary. Booked through open table for 5pm and arrived an hour early to watch the World Cup and have a few drinks at the bar. Caleb was a new bartender and all three bartenders took great care of us and let us sample some tequila. We got a table by the window and were greeted by the hostess with two glasses of Champagne congratulating us on our anniversary. Dinner was better than expected and priced very well. Drinks were replenished and our waitress was on her game. Great experience and we had a wonderful time. I would recommend this place to anyone looking for good food, great tequila and a good time."

  • "The drinks were the best part of the whole meal! The food sucked! Very salty and watery! Definitely will not be back! Better off going to chipotle."

  • "Great guacamole and salsas! We enjoyed our meal. Had the shrimp fajitas for one and split them. It was plenty even for two people. "

  • "The guacamole was good, but the rest of the meal was bland. We are perhaps just too spoiled with Mexican food living in California. Cute place and good service."

  • "Brought our grandfather here for some good Mexican food and margaritas. Was excellent between the food and service. Everything tasted fresh and delectable. If it wasn't in Fed Hill, I would totally come more often (parking is always a pain). Very glad we choose to come here!"

  • "We arrived at Blue Agave for the first time on Friday, May 16th 2014 around 8:15 PM. At first glimpse, it was packed to the brim and everyone was clustered in and around the business. The host told us our table would be a few minutes, so we grabbed some magaritas and they were outstanding! Just as we sat down on the wait bench to enjoy our name was called. Our waitress was very knowledgeable on all the menu items and I ordered some fajita dish. It was so delicious and tasty. The portions were really big (including the nacho appetizer with guacamole out of this world!). Personally, Fed Hill is a really yuppy spot in Baltimore and to pay for parking really stinks. This place made the hassle for us all worthwhile. Give it a shot :)"

  • "Our experience exceeded our expectations! The service was prompt and polite. Despite standing room only (and hardly that) at the bar and several large parties around us with no empty tables by 7:30pm, our food came out fast and hot! For $60 we scored 2 maragaritas, an appetizer, and 2 entires. At one point, we didn't have enough room on the table to fit the plates. We couldn't barely finish our meal and I am pregnant and my husband is a triathlete- eating is our passion/obsession and we went hungry! At 30 years old, we felt a bit out of place because everyone was in their early to mid 20's but in the main dining area the crowd was more diverse. I would HIGHLY recommend this restaurant and to make a reservation. We can't wait to go back!! "

  • "This is a busy college bar. We were celebrating graduation with our niece and had a fantastic time. However, the food is almost in edible . The margaritas were made with sour mix, yuck! Yuck! Yuck! "

  • "I made a reservation early that morning and actually needed to add 2 people to my reservation at the last minute. Service was very friendly and accommodating, even though it was super busy that night and many people waiting to be sat since it was Cinco de Mayo. Once we were sat, salsa was brought out right away. Nice variety of margaritas, food was great and our server was friendly and attentive. Would definitely come back again."

  • "Great experience, great food, great margaritas...Only qualm is that they didn't advertise that happy hour specials are only at the bar. Would recommend!"

  • "Food came out hot and delicious with flavor...service very subpar this night...waited 15 mins for someone to acknowledge us; waitress didn't even give her name; this restaurant could be so much more with a little wait staff training to give more of a dining experience"

  • "Was looking forward to eating here. The chips and salsa's were great. The main dishes were disappointing. Many lacked flavor. Being from Los Angeles with an abundance of good Mexican cuisine I had expectations that were not met. The tamales appetizer was not Mexican - but likely cooked as El Salvadoran. The masa was watery and mushy and likely wrapped in a banana leaf. The Sea bass was bland, and the salsa topping was verging on grey. The queso dip cheese was curdled and not smooth. The margaritas were good - a bit on the small side but good. Sorry to say I'd return only for happy hour and not the food. "

  • "I thoroughly enjoyed my dining experience at Blue Agave. It was not my first time there, and was very pleased with my dinner choice. When I booked our reservation, I mentioned that it was my daughter's 27th birthday, hoping it might be acknowledged, but it was not. Otherwise, my party and I were quite happy with everything"

  • "One of my favorite places in Baltimore for Mexican food. Blue Agave has a large assortment of Tequila and they make an awesome Raspberry Margarita!"

  • "A group of 10 of us (from Hawaii & Guam) in Baltimore for a meeting went to dinner at Blue Agave. Since we were looking for a type of food that we couldn't get at home on the islands, the venue appealed to us. Food was very good as was the service. Would recommend to others."

  • "Overall, I was very pleased with the experience at Blue Agave. The service was quick, the food was great, and the margaritas were delicious. The only downside was that our group had to wait about 20 minutes past our reservation time for the table before us to leave. Other than that, I was very happy."

  • "What used to be a strictly Mexican restaurant has over the past few years reinvented itself as a Tex-Mex restaurant, and in the process won me over. The menu has something for almost everyone, including vegetarians. And everything is great! It was quite crowded. So, if you go, be prepared to wait, and they won't seat your party till everyone is there."

  • "This evening for four started with circling the block several times for parking. Once seated we had the luck of getting a male server who had a bad day, hated life, hated his job, or some other reason for being angry and miserable. He took our order, managing service during the meal...but he conveyed nothing but "here's your food and here's the bill." We were celebrating my birthday and it was noted on the comment section of the open table reservation. Our server never mentioned it. The food was average Mexican. The place was supposed to be 'famous' for its margaritas and authentic meals. The house margaritas tasted salty (from a straw) and of store-bought margarita mix. The price point far exceeded the service, food, and ambiance."

  • "I'd only been to Blue Agave once and found the food great. I reserved my table for a bday dinner for eight people a month in advance. But when we arrived, the table wasn't ready for another 20 minutes. And then, the server seemed annoyed we were even there. When I asked if I could order avocado fries (since I had them last time while dining IN the restaurant), he said no - they're only at the bar. So my friend actually went to the bar, ordered them to go, and brought them back to our table. The service did not improve from there, and even though the food was decent, because of the service, I will never return. The server almost ruined the birthday dinner for everyone there, which is a shame since this place seems to be a neighborhood gem."

  • "Overall the food was good. It was a cute restaurant and the ambience was good. The service was not great. Our server had an attitude and every time we requested something he acted like we were bothering him. We mentioned that it was margarita day and he said Really??? We thought since there was signage posted indicating it was margarita day he would be aware of it. I don't believe I would return due to the poor service!"

  • "We went there for our Sons' birthdays! My wife was not happy with the vegetarian dish of Tamales. However the three of us like the dishes we had. The mango margarita was hardly mangoish! But it was good and the salt on the rim was generous, to my liking. Nice dining experience with a very pretty and pleasant waitress."

  • "Incredibly noisy late on a Saturday night, though to be expected. Enjoyed my fish tacos, although the tamales were quite poor. Great margaritas and sangria!"

  • "I have dined at Blue Agave several times over the past six years on visits to Baltimore. It has always been consistently delicious! Great margs, chips and guac, and entrees. I have had burritos, enchiladas, crab cakes, scallops, you name it, I've had it and loved it. My only complaint is that they took the jalepeno corn cakes off the menu. They were amazing and hot!! Blue Agave is a great place to go with a small group but may be hard to hear a large group when it gets crowded."

  • "I went out on a Friday night with a girlfriend. We had a 7:30 reservation. We were both starving upon arrival, and this did not disappoint. Highlight: The food... the food. This place does it right. Immediately brought us 3 types of salsa and a big basket of chips. We ordered queso to start - it was different than expected- more of a smooth cheese sauce than the bright yellow queso you might expect. It was delicious. I got a chicken burrito- it was so good! For being such a simple mexican food meal, I've been thinking about it since Friday. Definitely a solid go-to go-to for a fun dinner out!"

  • "I've been hearing about this restaurant for years now, and finally decided to check it out for Restaurant Week. I chose to go on a Monday night, which meant they weren't very busy at all. As a result, the server was a little on the over-attentive side. It's not something one ever wants to complain about, but when he asked how the food was literally 30 seconds after it had been served, I was mildly irritated. As for the food, the chips we were served when we sat were a little on the stale side. I didn't say anything because sometimes tex/mex restaurants just have bad chips, but when we got a second serving they were much better. The chorizo empenadas and desserts were fantastic, but both our main courses were a little disappointing."
