For the overpriced food, we were all thoroughly disappointed with the overall taste and quality of each dish. I will not be returning to this restaurant, and definitely not recommending it!

The mussels were the highlight of an outstanding meal where every dish was a delicious treat. Did I mention the amazing Chef's Evening Special, Carbonara Risotto? A testament to why Black Pig Bistro was a busy spot on a cold Sunday evening. We loved the juxtaposition of high-end service provided by a young gal wearing blue jeans under her crisp white bistro apron. So modern, so Calgary!

Like The River Cafe, The Black Pig is now on my list of places I'd go on someone else's dime. Thankfully the portions aren't as miserly so I didn't leave hungry. Inflated prices aside the dinning experience was quite nice and the food was excellent.

The food was great and the menu was inventive. The staff is enthusiastic and really seemed to care about the place. We had a chance to interact with one of the owners the first time we went and I suspect it was his passion and enthusiasm that rubbed off on all of us that were there that night. The place had a cool-kid vibe to it and the food did not disappoint. Good spot!

We have been meaning to check out Black Pig Bistro for some time. We are glad we did and will both recommend it and return. The room is modern without being stark, and the set up and service is both relaxed and 'local' while attending to the details of a good dining experience. We were prepared for a variety of styles-- from loud, noisy and good food in a pulsing bar, to classic bistro- and it is neither, to its credit. It is a neighbourhood restaurant. The room has energy, but not noise so it is easy to speak with tablemates. The smallish menu is thoughtful and prepared with care and knowledge. Dishes could be shared or served for one, allowing for lots of options. Couples or groups of friends will be comfortable here.

The menu is extremely limited and contains very little in the way of produce. We ordered the tomato caesar salad in which tomatoes were sitting on top of a third of an inch of thick creamy dressing - way too much. The prices were high even for Calgary. The market pig feature of the day we were told was a full rack of ribs. What we got was 7 ribs of which 2 were very small. All in all the 4 of us were disappointed.

We were four ladies celebrating a 60th birthday and we chose the right place. We started with the Iberico Ham served with tomato baguette. This was absolutely delicious; one of the ladies said it was even better than what she ate in Barcelona. We ordered the Pork and Beans (I wanted to lick my plate clean), the two evening specials and the gnocchini striploin; all the dishes were well presented and very tasty. For dessert, we shared the Pumpkin Sticky Toffee Pudding (perfect size for four people). Our servers were very accommodating with opening and serving the special Champagne and red wine that we brought along with us. They were attentive and very responsive to us. Everything was just perfect! We are looking forward to our next visit.

early sat reso for 5:45. appetizers came out quickly, delicious! I had Steak TarTar and loved that it came with chips instead of bread. Great taste - also had a bite of the hotdogs and the seafood appetizer from the table - delicious. My biggest complaint was the wait time for the entrees. We waited 45 minutes AFTER our appetizer dishes had been cleared- we were starving and, as noted, came early and the restaurant was not full yet so I couldn't sympathize. In addition, the waitress didn't even acknowledge the long wait. A simple apology would have gone a long way. Food was good once it came. I had steak and gnocchi. Taste was perfect, but only 5 pieces of gnocchi on my plate which was disappointing as I was clearly starving by this point!

I'd read good things about Black Pig Bistro - chose the three course lunch specia. I thought the appetizer (arancini) and lunch course were fairly bland actually - was surprised. The arancini had good texture, but flavor was just OK I don't normally eat baguette - was a treat, but the roast beef flavouring was quite bland - not what I expected. The fruit cobbler dessert was spectacular - best I've ever had bar none. Very flavourful, not too sweet, great texture.

6 of us had a very nice dinner here. We started with a selection of the appetizers - the chicken liver parfait, the house pate and the ham terrine. All were very good and were readily finished. We were mulling over the main courses when the waiter indicated that the kitchen had added a special - family style prime rib - 32 oz with potatoes and veggies. Since they only had 3 available we snapped up 2 of them which was more than enough for the 6 of us. The prime rib was excellent as were the sides. And the value was incredible - each of the dinners was only $65; we were able to easily feed all 6 of us for $130 - that was a pleasant surprise considering the quality of the food. We would definitely come back and recommend to others.

This was my second time having lunch at Black Pig Bistro and I really enjoyed myself once again. The menu had changed since I was there last time and perhaps had a couple more 'full meals' on it, vs. mostly sandwiches and salads, which was great. The food is really tasty, presentation is great, price points are appropriate and I've always had very good service. I had the same server both times and this guy scores a 10 out of 10 for patience and professionalism. No matter how long we take to decide he patiently fills up our waters and brings us drinks without a flinch. I would like to come back for dinner at some point -and I have no doubt that a dinner experience would be just as good, if not better!

We had dinner there on the first night of their new menu and loved it. Some of the old favourites like pork and beans are still on there, but some of the new items like the smoked ham hock terrine, beef cheek ravioli, NY strip loin and the pumpkin sticky toffee pudding where absolutely fantastic. Flavours are great, presentation is great, wines are great and the service staff is incredible. This is a restaurant that has great potential to get on the Enroute Best New Restaurant list for 2014.

I took my daughter here for her Birthday, which I shared with the restaurant and they did not seem to respond even with a small token. The appetizer we had was the pork creamy pate, it was delicious. My main was the pickerel which seemed tough and dry, my daughter had the pulled pork sandwich which average. I must say I was a bit disappointed for her as we do not get to enjoy lunch out together that often.
