Black Pig Bistro is charming 50 seat restaurant situated in the heart of the bright community of Bridgeland. Serving European influenced bistro fare, inspired by Spanish, French and Italian cuisine, Black Pig’s menu will feature a varied mix of both classic and new dishes. Black Pig Bistro uses many ingredients that are both locally sourced and imported.



The name is derived from the Black Iberian Pig, which roams free and feeds in the vast pastures of western Spain. The Jamón Ibérico de Bellota, commonly called Pata Negra, is widely considered the cream of Spanish ham. Black Pig Bistro proudly offers a top quality dining experience with exemplary service at a moderate price.

  • "I had been hearing great things about this little gem from family, and decided to make it a night. Online, the menu looks pretty basic, with some unusual items, like "Pork and Beans"!!?? At an up and coming Bistro? This I had to see. Alison Bieber, the executive chef and one of the ownership partners, is well-known in Calgary restaurant circles for her excellence in cooking, and I assumed the dish would not be the "pork and beans" you are likely thinking about right now. I was right. WOW. Ambience, preparation, tastes were superb. This little bistro is not to be missed. Try the Chicken Liver Parfait (Alison's signature dish), and the Pork and Beans (the house specialty) I highly doubt you will be disappointed."

  • "I was very pleased with this little gem in Bridgeland. After reading some reviews, I decided to book lunch there with a friend on a recent Friday. The ambience is definitely bistro style and they did a great job. Although we didn't have any wine, I scanned the list which appeared to have a good selection of Spanish wines which would go wonderfully with the Iberico. It was surprisingly quiet at 12:30 on a Friday, but great for an opportunity to see a friend who had been travelling for a year. The wait staff was very good. I started with the vine ripened tomato gazpacho and it was excellent. We both had the Serrano ham sandwich with Manchego cheese and some pickled vegetables on the side. Thoroughly enjoyed it all and I will be back."

  • "This review will be like many others about The Black Pig = awesome! Four of us went there on a Thursday evening. The staff was friendly and professional. The food was incredible. I would go back for the pork dogs twice a week if I could. The risotto/beef cheek was amazing. We didn't get the market pork (it was rib day), but plan to go back and try it. Would easily recommend and will definitely go back."

  • "We've heard so much about Black Pig Bistro that we had to check it out. The location is great with lots of parking, the decor is comfortable, bright and welcoming... and the food.... the food was delicious. My husband and I shared the Iberico Ham appetizer, and it was heaven on a plate. They served a baguette with a light tomatoe spread, combined with the slightly crispy texture of the Iberico Ham, you have perfection! My husband had the cioppini; they were generous with the seafood and combined with the wonderful smell/taste of saffron, it was a delcious golden beauty! I had the chorizo and chicken,.. three words - crispy chicken skin.... yum!! Next time, I think I'll ask for a crispy chicken skin sandwich. :)"

  • "This is a sleek modern bistro and the food was delicious. The chicken liver pate is excellent and big enough to share as a starter. Also recommend the cioppino, grilled cheese, and the pulled pork sandwich - although the pulled pork was a little drippy. Quality of food is very high and worth the price. Also a nice selection of wines by the glass. Service was efficient and friendly. Planning to come back for dinner sometime. I predict it will become a very popular spot."

Wine choice was expensive, however one could choose three different amounts for individual servings which was very useful. The bistro is new to the area, it is bright and open.   • "As a family, we ordered, pretty much, the entire lunch menu that weekend and enjoyed majority of our order. The Jamon Iberico with the baguettes and the chicken liver parfait were the best appetizers, while the mushroom soup was quite tasty. I had the saffron risotto which was great; the marscapone added a good finish. The main event was that cornmeal red snapper; crisp on the outside yet flaky on the inside. A combination of the two would be stellar! The dessert was where they fell flat as I wasn't a fan of the passion fruit panna cotta (why put rainbow sprinkles? I didn't get that and added nothing to the dish) and the chocolate cake was so-so. I think they should serve the peanut butter ice cream by itself though. - Don"

The hostess was cold, with barely any greeting and a mumble that she would guide us to our table. Our server was, again, cold, disjointed and removed from the restaurant. He barely followed the simple 'what can I get you' server quota by running past our table to dump off water, the wine, and the food. The food was cold, underseasoned. The tomato salad in particular, which was comprised of warm, mushy tomatoes. The crostinis needed to be sent back and remade as they were not fresh. Everything at that restaurant was cold - it's like they never wanted us there. "

  • "We were a party of six, undecided on what to order. After asked if it was possible to put together a variety of dishes to try for our party, he said that he will make a selection of the best dishes so we could try them. What he basically did was to bring the whole menu (sometimes repeating plates), which turned into a huge amount of food at the table, great food indeed, but it felt like he was pushing plates to make a higher bill. When we asked him to stop bringing more dishes, he did it reluctantly. At the end, he forgot to include in the bill two $60-bottles of wine. When we reminded him of that, he never thanked us for saving him to put up with his mistake. Great place, but our waiter shouldn't be working there."

Jamon Iberico for starter is a must do, unique flavours and a step up from Serrano ham which I love; I swapped the Saffron Risotto and Spicy Cauliflower Chitarra with my dinning date half way through the lunch to try both. Both were truly outstanding. The server's descriptions and professionalism was spot on; never rushed. Don't let the casual elegant decor fool you, this is a top drawer place, a testament to the experience of the chef and staff. Given the quality of food and level of service and reasonably busy pre-long weekend Friday lunch, I was stunned to learn they have only been open 3+ weeks; easily worth a trip from the core."

The food is wonderful (tomato caesar salad is out of this world, charcuterie plate is generous, varied & interesting; the pork & beans are nothing like the lunch of your childhood; amazing!) The wine list is also varied & interesting, with very good pricing. Each time we've been there, we've had wonderful, personal service from the owners Larry, Denise & Alison who is also the head chef. They are a terrific team who are truly engaged with their customers. We live completely across town; but found ourselves talking about how lucky the neighbourhood folks are who can walk over for a treat anytime they like. We might have to move!"

The food was average at best and the menu was odd for a family themed holiday: pickerel?! The dessert was ridiculous: 4 shredded bite sized pieces of cake. Black Pig needs to do much better go forward."

  • "I have been anticipating the opening of this place for some time now. While intrigued by the name I had been debating the inspiration of restaurant. Was it BBQ, Spanish, Asian or every pork. To my surprise it was Spanish and delicious. I loved how the place did not resemble any of its former establishments which was very refreshing. The ambiance was vibrant, energetic and a great new neighborhood hot spot. Looking forward to spending more evenings there. I highly recommend the Chicken Liver Parfait, sound unusual, but it is silky smooth, full of flavor and unctuous."
