  • "This was our fourth or fifth visit to the steakhouse, and have been more than impressed each time. Stacks up with all other steakhouses in the Ruths Chris, Morton's, Donovan's and Capital Grille arena, short of their wine list. Great food well presented with solid service. Cant wait for next time."

  • "We have been to Black and Blue, a few time's, and have never been disappointed! Our last time there, April 5th, we had another wonderful experience. Our waitress, Maya, was very helpful and answered any question's we had. Our entrees were delicious and cooked just right. My husband loved his bison and my chilean seabass, was delicious! I wish we had had room for dessert, but we did leave with leftovers to enjoy, the next day. We'll be back next month!"

  • "My husband and I celebrated our 10th wedding anniversary there. When I made the reservation they asked if we were celebrating a special occasion. When we arrived the waiter greeted us by name and said Happy Anniversary. Wow, that was really nice that he took the time to read the reservation card. The service was amazing and the food was fantastic. We would recommend this restaurant to anyone celebrating an event or as a really nice dinner."

  • "It was a birthday so we wanted someplace special. Everything was à la cart but worth it. Bake potato was large enough for two people. Salads, and soup were also large enough to split. The restaurant itself is fairly plain however the food makes up for it. They did have one dinner for $75 that included everything and was well worth it. After dinner before the bill came we had a chance to gamble on that one dinner if we wished. It was a fun experience although our gambling did not pay off. But I would definitely do it again. Service, average to good, ambiance about the same. Dinner was amazing."

  • "The night was excellent, great food, wonderful friends and a soothing and comfortable atmosphere. Servers were on top of everything! Truly a wonderful, happy experience."

  • "We dine at many steak houses each year; The steaks were below average, they were much better on a previous visit"

  • "This was our second visit and disappointed in the service. The meal was excellent, we had the rib eye and halibut. Pass on the sweet potatoes. When our meal was served, we were asked if we would like more bread, and the waiter noticed we had not been served any. It immediately arrived at the table. No refills were offered until after we had finished our meal. It was not a busy night, so not sure why they were not more attentive. Don't think we'll be going back to Black and Blue since it's a 2 hour drive for us."

  • "BAD SERVICE. GREAT FOOD. Reservations on Valentine's Day for 8:00 pm... hostess (who was also seating people for some reason) said 15 minute wait. That became a 25 minute wait in the bar, which wasn't busy but had a 10 minute wait for drinks. Finally seated... 10 minute wait for water, 20 more minute wait for drinks, hour wait for food. Food was actually good. Rarely saw waitress. Steak was medium, not medium rare, but still tasted good. Ordered more drinks that finally came when we were paying the check, which automatically added 17% gratuity - normal for party of 8, not for a party of 2. We might try it again on a non-special occasion day, but for the same price, probably should've just went to Donovan's or Fleming's."

  • "Every time I eat at this gem the entire party is amazed at how each and every bite is memorable. It's true testament to a restaurant where you rave about the sides when usually it is the mains that get the attention. One of our party got lamb as her main. The one bite she shared took me back to my time in New Zealand where they really know how to cook lamb, hogget and mutton. This was truly tasty. As each course arrived we remarked on how we wanted the portions to be larger (more, please) but at the end of dinner we laughed as not one item had been completely consumed. We left happy, sated and with food for the next day nibblings."

  • "We live nearby, and decided to try it after reading all the yelp reviews. I made our Valentines reservation 1 week in advance. The service was wonderful! I ordered the cowboy ribeye and my husband the filet, both delicious and perfectly prepared. We didn't try any appetizers, but ordered the maui onion soup, truffle-parmesan fries, and brussel sprout sides. All delicious. The bread basket selections were amazing. We also ordered the iced tea (w iced tea cubes) that come w the carafes of lemon and sugar syrup. The brownie dessert was wonderful as well. It was a 2 hour dining experience, but we hardly noticed. The food came out at a good pace, despite how busy it was. Def a fave and we will be back!!"

  • "This has been the fifth time with you. Feb 14/14 was not favorable. Twenty min to get some one to notice us. Could not fine bread person, ask three times before coming over to us. The food was good once it arrived. Was disappointed the French onion soup was gone and replaced with an different type of soup. Rogs"

  • "I love the bread they serve, it's delicious and they offer a great variety. I had the Chilean sea bass and it was scrumptious! My husband had the filet mignon and that too was so good. The iced tea is a must. We also got a brie salad and it was so yummy! Love this place! Our server was Caroline and she was in point and attentive."

  • "This was our second visit to Black & Blue. Our first visit we received extraordinary service despite the restaurant being busy. The staff the first visit was very attentive and prompt. This time the restaurant was less then half full, and our service was standard. We were not greeted by our server for over 10 min after being seated. We asked if she would check with the chef and make sure the mashed potatoes were gluten free and let us know, and instead of returning to our table to let us know, they just brought the potatoes with the steaks. Our drinks (ice tea/water) were left empty for periods of time and we had to call over the staff for a refill 2x. Although we ordered md rare steaks, they were burnt and crispy on the outside, gross."

  • "The smiling hostess quickly seated our group and our waiter Tony made sure that everyone had drinks within minutes. As the appetizers arrived Monique the manager came by and thank us for being there! The Rib eye, Porterhouse and Filet were cooked to perfection ! The attention to detail made us feel special and welcomed. The teamwork among the workers was evident in the service they provided ! The food portions were adequate and cooked exactly to the way we ordered them !"

  • "Best presentation on the Surf & Turf dinner item and then to find it was also the BEST food in taste, quality and overall preparation was a great surprise as we were 1st time diners there. We sat in booth (there were 3 of us) and very comfortable..however. would highly recommend they change the table seating (center of room) as it was too institutional in setting area and not appealing...too many tables together looked like they were planning for group of 20 + (2 rows) should be more scattered and diagonal tables to make more comfortable arrangment"

  • "ambiance nice. bread was delicious and nice to have a variety of choices. lettuce wedge & cesaer salad - really good. med-rare filet mignon was too salty, charred on the outside and dry on the inside. loved the brownie ice cream dessert and cappuccino. service was great."

  • "We enjoy the Black and Blue Restaurant. When you sit down, they bring you a hot towel to clean your hands. After ordering, there are a selection of breads that are brought to the table. If this is your first time you should try them all. Listen for the "Chef's Creations". I had a heirloom Beet Salad which was wonderful. Yummy!!! ;). I had the lamb and it did NOT disappoint!! My husband had the Sea Bass.......super moist fish. Definitely a must have. Go there hungry, try as much as possible. Our favorites.....Lobster tower, shrimp cocktail, seasonal greens, the wedge salad, cowboy ribeye, the filet, the lamb, handmade pasta dish, desserts. The B & B cares about your experience down to the iced tea (ice tea ice cubes) to the hot chocolate."

  • "It is always worth it. We tend to stay on the left side of the menu so we can play in more flavors. Left side is Appetizers, Sides, Salads, and Soups. If you are in the mood to enjoy Chef Knowles creations then I always recommend you explore the chef choice and chef creations. Last time was a winter salad with pickled crones (absolutely delicious). My honest recommendation is to get the sides of Cheesy Polenta and then get the Forest Mushrooms. That is a great way to have an appetizer. Simple and superb. We are self proclaimed foodies and we find ourselves returning to Black and Blue frequently. We end up here more than any other restaurant."

  • "A nice restaurant for a luxury meal in Valley Center. The service is excellent. They also serve wonderful fancy little extras that are amazing. Four different choices of bread served with a special soft herbal salted butter, a little tray with smoked almonds and olives before the bread and the coffee comes with whipped cream, caramel, chocolate sauce and chocolate spoons on a little tray. Our waiter was wonderful."

  • "This place is an exclusive dining treat located within Valley View casino. You are definitely stepping up in quality of food, service and price. You feel like you are getting special treatment from the start and your every need is catered to quickly and politely. We enjoyed it for a special day and will probably keep it for such purposes mostly due to price."

  • "Service, ambience and food very good. Just don't feel 17% gratuity should be automatic added on, however our server did deserve it. The New York steak & baked potato alone was enough to serve two people. Filet Mignon was delicious."

  • "Our server was incredibly attentive and well versed in her craft. Her recommendations were spot on, as were her manners and demeanor. We both had he Filet Oscar and both steaks were cooked to perfection. It was obvious the chef took pride in his art and cared about our experience."

  • "Ordered surf and turf, lobster was over cooked and the steak too salty. Sent back the lobster and the second one was mushy. The waitress didn't seen to care. They add their tip onto the bill so I don't think that gives much of an incentive to give really good service. I don't think we'll go back."

  • "Food was good quality but the price for this food was not up to par. I would have much rather paid the same price at Ruth's Chris and gotten far better service and better portions and presentations. The service was spotty and had a hard time getting water and was only offered one piece of bread and they never came back and offered more. I would not recommend this place for the price. Twice during dinner large platters were dropped that could be heard throughout the restaurant and the wait staff thought is was funny both times. This was very unprofessional and careless to happen twice."

  • "New menu prices are bit to high and some of the great items are not on new menu. Looked around for some of the old staff which was great but one saw one or two.The previous staff was one of the best in the San Diego area. Not sure that we will return as offen. We have been a customer at least twice a month for the past 4 to 5 yrs."
