A word from Bistrot Zinc
Experience the romance of France in Chicago. The taste and feel of Paris is right here in the Gold Coast, one of Chicago’s oldest and most beautiful neighborhoods. The name Bistrot Zinc is derived from typical French bistrots where the “zinc” bar is a popular meeting place for good food, conversation and camaraderie. Moderately-priced classic & contemporary French food is served amid the ambiance of tile floors, tin ceilings, and the beautifully handcrafted zinc bar. The feeling of French authenticity prevails throughout as you step into this lively Parisian atmosphere. The lunch, brunch and dinner menus include many French favorites in addition to the monthly specials. Also offered is an extensive selection of French wines by the bottle and glass, plus French aperitifs and liqueurs.Continued

Diner Reviews
  • "The pate and french onion soup were amazing. My smoked salmon crepe was too salty and on the mushy side. Seemed to be a bit understaffed, but we didn't wait painfully long for anything."

  • "Excellent food and great service! Definitely going to be a regular here!"

  • "Lovely and casual French dining with lots of very typical bistro choices - moules mareniere, steak frites and so on. Enjoyed a fabulous bottle of 2010 Guigal Cotes du Rhone. Outstanding server ! Moderate prices for Gold Coast area."

  • "Perfect brunch! The best hollandaisse I've ever experienced, on the best eggs benedict. Lots of choices and our group loved everything. The whole place feels upbeat, cheerful and authentic. Can't wait to go back."

  • "Just love going to Bistro Zinc for a French fix. Love the food, the ambiance and the menu. It's one of our favorites when we visit Chicago."

  • "The restaurant was decorated nicely for Bastille day and they even had a guest appearance by Marie Antoinette! We had the esgargots for an appetizer and the banana Nutella crepe for dessert, highly recommend both! Michael and the staff always makes you feel welcome and like you are dining at someone's home. Bistrot Zinc is truly a neighborhood gem!"

  • "We enjoyed a great meal at a fun, French bistro. Menu was diverse and interesting. Specials were great. Really good wine list, with some good, reasonable options. Our waiter was really pleasant and helpful. Overall, a great find, and a fun evening!"

  • "The waiter did a great job. His suggestions regarding food and wine were right on the mark. Great food. Kids loved their meals and older people in the group had plenty on interesing things to try also."

  • "Definitely a Rush Street Triangle Gem. I have never had a bad meal at this restaurant and I would highly recommend for a special occasion and/or a nice lunch and dinner."

  • "I love Bistro Zinc! The restaurant is charming, the service is excellent, and the food is delicious. I was however, upset that I was not allowed to use my coupon that has no expiration date. I didn't want to cause a scene so I didn't call the manager over. Our evening was wonderful, Dave our server was just great as usual."

  • "There is nothing great about Bistsro Zinc. But the food is always pleasant. So is the service. The atmosphere is low key. In the warm weather the open the large front window. My soft-shelled crab was crisp sitting on a bed of corn. My companion's quiche with salad was just fine. An ideal place to go for lunch."

  • "We've been going to this bistro for many years and can't believe how consistently great it is. The staff have been there a long time which I think is very telling. Great food and service always "

  • "nothing to brag about, the steak frittes was as expected, the stew a bit too starchy, pate was great. service was great, friend's steak and fries came out cold, waiter didn't bat and eye, took it away immediately and had a fresh one made immediately, mistakes happen and he handled it very professionally."

  • "We had a lovely brunch here - the quiche and ratatouille crepes were quite good. The restaurant is very comfortable with great service and the open windows on state street give a nice urban vibe. "

  • "they were very accomodating to our group which grew from four to seven in a matter of moments as we entered the restaurant, No hassle and they rolled with the situation. Highly recommend this place."

  • "We dined at Bistrot Zinc twice this week while in Chicago for the National Restaurant Assn show, having discovered and enjoyed it last year. The menu is eclectic but not pretentious, prices are moderate and the service is attentive. The streets nearby are busy with noisy bars and outdoor dining, so Zinc is an oasis for those who want to talk and be heard. The place was filled with many local residents, which we take as a good sign."

  • "The place is one of my favorite in the city. The food is always really good and you can't find better service in the city."
    Dined on 5/11/2014
  • "Food was not good--greasy, way too much cheese on sandwiches and onion soup. The ratatouille was sour tasting, salad was warm. Waiter was not attentive--I told him my dinner wasn't good. I asked if I could get a half sandwich--egg salad. He said no. We had to flag him down whenever we needed him. There were 3 people at our table and he brought us 2 dessert menus. Later manager came by and apologized for my dinner and said of course I could get a half egg salad sandwich. I wish I knew waiters name. He should not be serving people. Loved the restaurant décor and atmosphere but that is all."

  • "We always love Bistro Zinc. The food is excellent without fail. The only problem with our most recent visit was something the restaurant couldn't help: the two women next to us, very close seating at Bistro Zinc, were incredibly loud. We couldn't hear ourselves. They obviously didn't know how to speak with their inside voices. Thank goodness they left halfway into our meal."

  • "The food is always good here, the restaurant is super-cute and the service is excellent. Our server told us that he was the still the newcomer after four years, I think that speaks well of the restaurant. Even my extremely picky european in-laws love Bistro Zinc!"

  • "I have been to Bistro Zinc numerous times but my last experience convinced me to take it off my list. Though the service was good and, since we sat by the windows, the space was pleasant (it's not so pleasant toward the back where it gets dark and crowded), the food was ordinary and overpriced. It was extremely noisy, so much so that conversation was a chore and I was exhausted afterwards. I no longer am willing to meet a friend for dinner and conversation at any restaurant that defines noise as "energy" and equates it with popularity. I live in the neighborhood and there are lots of other choices."

  • "We've been eating here for years; food, service, style, vibe- the whole experience is always great. Much more than a neighborhood restaurant. "

  • "We drove 4.5 hours to celebrate a 50th birthday with dinner at Bistrot Zinc. The casual elegance, attentive yet understated service, and excellent food were worth every mile! Best steak frites this side of Paris! Walleye special and mussels were also exquisite! "

  • "The hostess was rude and food not getting better but worst This was a great spot but it is not keeping up with the flow anymore. I would stay away if I were you. This is not a friendly spot"

  • "Easter brunch at Bistro Zinc was quite memorable! A warm morning allowed for open windows, making our dining experience even more special. Eggs benedict with smoked salmon phenomenal! Highly recommend - very charming, local gem."

  • "So happy we selected Bistrot Zinc for brunch on Easter. We were not up for a pre-fixed price/otherwise known as "rip off" brunch at a high end hotel. The weather was fabulous; we were seated at a window table where the windows were open for an open air effect. It was an absolutely delicious meal and our server was great. How lucky we are to have this restaurant in our neighborhood within walking distance. Thanks for a memorable holiday brunch!"

  • "Went for Easter brunch with my 12 year-old daughter. It was a great experience. The staff was very friendly and my daughter enjoyed it. I would definitely bring family or friends here again."

  • "Went to bistro zinc for Easter brunch & have never seen plates be taking away from a table so quickly. They must have been short or the dishwasher was broken, because it was insane. Slow up and let the guests enjoy themselves...maybe just maybe even wait for everyone at the table to finish eating before taking the plates away. Just a thought"

  • "The wine choices were very good, the snails were excellent and so were the entrees. There are a number of dishes to choose from and the service is excellent."

  • "Very different - enjoyed the change in day to day fare"

  • "Delicious array of foods, quiet ambiance for a lunch-time meeting, excellent service. Mussels were plump, juicy, succulent swimming in a sea of light cream. Special spinach salad with eggplant croquettes got rave reviews from my dining mates. Dessert of profiteroles and cherry tarts were a perfect ending. And our waiter gave plenty of timely service without intruding on our business proceedings. A delightful French bistro experience without stepping on an airplane."

  • "We had a friend coming in from New York and decided to go for Sunday Brunch. A friend of mine recommended Bistrot Zinc and when I looked up the location, I was really thrown off. It is right next to the Viagra Triangle and we're not a fan of the scene around there. But the other reviews were good and the photos looked great, so we decided why not try it out. I'm so glad we went there. The staff was extremely friendly, the decor was actually little more like a Brasserie (a little more ornate) than a Bistro, the scene was not full of Trixies, and the food was delicious! I happy to know that I found a place in that area that I actually feel comfortable bringing out-of-towners to. We'll be back!"
