A word from Bistrot Zinc
Experience the romance of France in Chicago. The taste and feel of Paris is right here in the Gold Coast, one of Chicago’s oldest and most beautiful neighborhoods. The name Bistrot Zinc is derived from typical French bistrots where the “zinc” bar is a popular meeting place for good food, conversation and camaraderie. Moderately-priced classic & contemporary French food is served amid the ambiance of tile floors, tin ceilings, and the beautifully handcrafted zinc bar. The feeling of French authenticity prevails throughout as you step into this lively Parisian atmosphere. The lunch, brunch and dinner menus include many French favorites in addition to the monthly specials. Also offered is an extensive selection of French wines by the bottle and glass, plus French aperitifs and liqueurs.Continued

Diner Reviews
  • "Delicious array of foods, quiet ambiance for a lunch-time meeting, excellent service. Mussels were plump, juicy, succulent swimming in a sea of light cream. Special spinach salad with eggplant croquettes got rave reviews from my dining mates. Dessert of profiteroles and cherry tarts were a perfect ending. And our waiter gave plenty of timely service without intruding on our business proceedings. A delightful French bistro experience without stepping on an airplane."

  • "We had a friend coming in from New York and decided to go for Sunday Brunch. A friend of mine recommended Bistrot Zinc and when I looked up the location, I was really thrown off. It is right next to the Viagra Triangle and we're not a fan of the scene around there. But the other reviews were good and the photos looked great, so we decided why not try it out. I'm so glad we went there. The staff was extremely friendly, the decor was actually little more like a Brasserie (a little more ornate) than a Bistro, the scene was not full of Trixies, and the food was delicious! I happy to know that I found a place in that area that I actually feel comfortable bringing out-of-towners to. We'll be back!"

  • "Bistro Zinc is a nice little restaurant perfect for meeting an old friend or business lunch to a romantic dinner. The food is great. My favorite is the escargot which is the best in my US travels outside of Disney World. There is rarely a bad dish. It's a classic yet energetic and has a nice view of the street to people watch. The service has always been well done here. Water stays full, bread is filled, and they seem to interject at the right times. I've never felt rushed. The only down side is when they are busy, it might take a moment to capture your servers attention. But this is a minor gripe at best. Overall, it's my personal favorite place to go for French food. I highly recommends it to all my friends in Chicago and visiting."

  • "This is truly a great little find. The food was just amazing and prepared perfection. I ordered a stew made with beer and beef. It was served with mashed potatoes and a really puffy puff pastry. It was so delicate. My husband had the trout which was prepared wonderfully and presented in a very appealing manner. For dessert I had the almond butter cake and he had a version of a cherry turnover. The portions were just perfect. The service was great and they are welcoming to everyone from seniors to children. A place I must return to. I wonder why it took me to long to get there. I can't wait to go back. And one last thing, the service is very attentive, but I didn't feel overly fussed over which is something I don't like."

  • "I took my wife out to Bistrot Zinc for her birthday last Saturday. Table for 2 at 6pm. We got in right before the big dinner rush hit. We have been coming to Bistrot Zinc for about 5 years now and it never disappoints. The food, the ambiance, and the service provide you with an memorable experience. Our waiter was very attentive and provided excellent recommendations. Food is reasonably priced in my opinion based on the quality of food. I let them know that it was my wife's birthday ahead of time and they took initiative to add a candle to my wife's desert without being prompted by me. The attention to detail from beginning to end is evident in this restaurant making every time we dine here a memorable occasion that keeps us coming back."

  • "The food was homey, well prepared, arrived warm at the table and tasted well. The only problem was the service, it was really not there. We had to ask for bread twice, they did not put bread plates. Forgot one dish that was asked, brought after the meal was finished so we had to take it home with us!! Still a good value, and it seemed that a few families were there, so it cater to all ages. Will go back, but aware that the service is lacking!!"

  • "Took our son over his spring break for dinner at Bistrot Zinc. Had the smiley appetizer that was simple and delicious. French onion soup, very good but large portion could have been a meal on its own. Would recommend this and also go back with friends."

  • "Unfortuntely we were quite disappointed by Bistrot Zinc. The service was good and the ambience is quite nice. The food was average at best. The skate was over cooked and dry, salmon garnish was inedible and the fish was rather tasteless, and they relied on cinnamon to flavor the spiced vegetable over couscous. We did ask for a lot of bread. Can't say I'll be going back soon."

  • "Enjoyed our meal at Bistrot Zinc & found the food and ambience authentic. The service was quite hurried, though, for a 7pm meal on a quiet Wednesday night. The chocolate espresso pot de creme was fantastic."

  • "When I want to feel like I'm in Paris, I head to Bistrot Zinc. The ambiance, decor, service and food remind me of the classic zinc bar bistros you'll find in the residential arrondissements of Paris. Merci to the owners of Bistrot Zinc!"

  • "We trudged in on a snowy and cold January evening and were welcomed with smiles, help with our coats, and seated to a most enchanting evening of authentic and delicious and most memorable food and wine and dessert. Our server was a bit behind the game with French and French cuisine, but he had all the enthusiasm and earnest effort we two could wish for. The appetizers were divine. We will return often, all seasons, whenever we want to recall France. Everyone at the tables nearby were having fun, conversations extended between tables, and it was like another time and world. Wonderful, just wonderful."

  • "Ate at Bistrot Zinc for the first time on Valentine's Day 2014. Our meals were very good. Excellent french onion soup. The tables for two are a bit close together. You could hear everything the couple on either side was saying. Our server was very good, made excellent suggestions, and was available when we needed something. I would eat at Bistrot Zinc again without hesitation."

  • "I lived in France for several years and now live in the Gold Coast. I've been meaning to come to Bistrot Zinc and finally came around to it with my girlfriend for brunch. It's definitely a great spot for dates and families alike. They have a French twist on brunch with emphasis on quiche, crepes, eggs benedict prepared different ways. Impressive wine list too. I did not see Bloody Mary's or Mimosa's specifically on the menu, but I'm sure they could prepare them."

  • "I have long considered this restaurant to be a reliable go to. Maybe the Chef is off duty on Sunday night. The food was a notch below its normally pleasant level. The mussels were under seasoned and over cooked. The churcuterie was just canned pate. The special stew for the night had no flavor, said the person who ordered it. Its usually better and I expect more. This was a business meeting. The guests were disappointed."

  • "Great food, great ambiance...I went with my fiance for Valentines Day, and we were not disappointed. I had the steak and she had the stew, both unbelievable. I have recommended the spot to a few of my friends already, thank you very much for the great meal."

  • "Wonderful food, service and an excellent ambiance. Great for a romantic date night. The menu is not expansive but all dishes are expertly prepared with particular attention to detail. Would recommend the escargot and foie gras. This is the typical European dining experience; the waiter is attentive and well mannered, but never a nuisance. You can dine for hours and be left alone to actually enjoy your meal, a rarity in today's fast paced food industry obsessed with turning tables over."

  • "We started going to Bistro Zinc because my wife found out friends of hers owned it. Ever since then it's our favorite "go to" restaurant for our anniversary and Valentine's Day dining. We love the "french" theme which makes the ambiance so romantic. The food is delicious and the service can't be beat. We live in the suburbs so rain, sleet or snow won't keep us from stopping by for a delightful evening there."
