Diner Reviews
  • "We anticipated a great meal based on looking at the menu and previous reviews online. My husband and I shared two entrées and they were both unique and spectacular. I like having a bit of music in the background so our conversations are not shared with others and the bistro had just the right amount of background noise. We could observe and occasionally hear others talking about how much they were enjoying their meal as well."

  • "Very cute and cozy ambiance and the good was delicious. My husband and I were visiting from DC for the weekend and decided on this restaurant based on the yelp reviews and the recommendation of one of the locals. We were not disappointed! The short ribs were amazing and the shrimp paperadelle special was equally delicious. We will definitely be back on our next visit."

  • "We went for the restaurant week deal and will be sure to return! The mussels were fantastic and short ribs outstanding. Housemade ravioli were to die for! We thoroughly enjoyed our meal and service was very professional, too."

  • "The table was small for two people and was close to larger tables so the noise level was high. The Arrancini were excellent. We ordered off the Restaurant Week menu and the portions were adaquate, left feeling full. Seafood Bisque and Bay Blue Salad were delicious, however, fresh ground pepper was not offered when it arrived . The Salmon entree was good but the fish was overdone to my liking and the cherry tomatoes were put on the plate cold. Short Rib was awesome! Desserts...tiramisu and Banana bread pudding...devine! Drinks were good but a little on the high end of pricing."

  • "We four enjoyed deliciously flavored food, great service, delightful ambience. We were greeted as friends, our first visit, and loved the birthday candle in the dessert. Can't wait to return!"

  • "First visit to St. Michaels Service was impeccable - Food was delicious - well prepared and presented From being greeted at the door to the birthday candle on my husband's dessert A great experience!"

  • "everything about our dinner was lovely from the moment we were greeted by the gracious hostess. the menu is VERY gluten-friendly. the server was terrific and the food delicious. looking forward to going back soon!"

  • "St Michaels is so quaint and wonderful and The Bistro fits right in. The presentation of the food was gorgeous and the taste was just as good. The wine was excellent and we loved the little bar for an after dinner drink. Right in the heart of town so we could walk to and from our B&B! We tried the scallops and the grouper - both get an A+. We will definitely be going back to try the other selections on the menu."

  • "Brunch was good. Food portions were small and bellinis were expensive. I ordered the quiche du jour which had bacon, crabmeat, gruyere cheese, and carmelized onions. It was quite tasty but so small that I felt cheated. You would need two entrees to feel satisfied. Luckily for me I had some of my date's sausage hash. They advertise the mimosas and bellinis on the chalk board display sign on the street. Unfortunately they do not include the prices on the menu, I was unpleasantly surprised to see that the bellinis cost the same amount as some of the meals."

  • "While we made a "lunch" reservation, the menu was for brunch. There were only two lunch choices on the menu. After we ate and left the restaurant we saw chalk board on the far side of the building with specials that we never knew anything about. I would have had one of them and my husband the other. While everything was tasty it was not what we expected. There were no options for dessert presented either. We would go back, it's one of our long time favorites for dinner."

  • "We recently stayed at the Harbor Inn and the restaurant at the hotel is under renovation and the Bistro was recommended to us since it was the same owners. We were not disappointed. We arrived an hour earlier than our reservation and had a glass of wine at the bar and had a very nice time "chatting" with Kelly who was originally from NJ not far where we were from. I had the seafood ravioli which was very good and my husband had the grouper which also was very tasty. The wait staff were very attentive. We really enjoyed our meal and would definitely return."

  • "Food and drink were both mediocre. I had already heard of two bad dinner reviews, but decided to give brunch a try as where I live is limited for brunch. I will not go back, nor will my guests."

  • "This is about our fifth trip to The Bistro in St. Michaels. The service is always excellent and consistent--we had Char this time--and the hostess, Deb , is always so welcoming. The diver scallops with sweet potato puree and roasted Brussels sprouts was the perfect mix of smooth and crunchy, sweet and salty. The oyster pot pie was especially savory as oysters are now in season. Delicious! A favorite we will return to often!"

  • "Much of our dinner was very good. The sweet potato soup, scallop entree, and rockfish entree were all very good. Next time, though, I would skip dessert, and would especially skip their coffee, which was mediocre."

  • "my wife and I made a last minute decision to have dinner at the Bistro and were fortunate to get a table. We both went for specials - the local rockfish and gnocchi and the crab and mushroom ravioli. Both were superb, perfectly cooked and piping hot - we notice at many restaurants now the food is barely tepid when it reaches the table. The staff were very friendly and efficient. Overall a great experience. Only negative observation was the very small size of the table that we had that was quickly cluttered."

  • "I think the last time I had a meal this good was when we were at Emeril's New Orleans. Everything about this restaurant - the service (Becky, our server was outstanding), the food, the wine selection was wonderful. I would go back in a second. If you are in St. Michaels you have to go here for a very special meal."

  • "Three of us went to the restaurant on a cold Tuesday night in a town noted for summer tourists. Quite a few shops were closed for the season which indicates winter is not prime time in St. Michaels, MD. There were only a few other people in the restaurant that night but they offered a good list of specials. We all ordered different dishes of seafood and beef. All of us were very pleased with our meals from appetizers to dessert. The restaurant is small and the tables are close together. I don't know what that would be like on a summer weekend night. It may be a bit noisy if very crowded, but our experience was fantastic."

  • "I had been to this place before and enjoyed an outstanding and loaded Seafood Bisque and the very tasty Bistro 1855 Steak Frites. Made a reservation to go there recently (St. Valentine's Day), had checked an online menu beforehand and saw the same items on it, but at the least minute found out that besides a St. Valentine's Day prix fixe menu for two, many of the items on the old menu had been changed, including the two items I had anticipated enjoying which were missing. There's was nothing on the restaurant's website about the St. Valentine's Day menu, though this was not entirely unexpected. The Cream of Crab Soup and the Lambchop entree I ordered were both very good. Also, a slight adjustment in our reservations was quite accommodating."

  • "We were impressed from the moment we entered the door till the moment we exited. We were greeted warmly at the front door, the staff at the Bistro is top notch and everyone seems to really enjoy their job. Smiling, friendly great service. The food...unbelievable . Flavors that pop out at you. We had their tasting menu ( Valentine weekend) it started with crab soup, salad , lobster ravioli and a beef filet . Portions not to small yet not overwhelming large. Just enough to satisfy your appetite. We ended our dinner with the fruit fondue, with a dark chocolate sauce. They had a nice wine list, with a little something for everyone. We'll be back this summer, you don't want to miss!"

  • "We closed on a real estate deal and went for a celebratory dinner. Nice relaxed atmosphere. Nice bottle of wine, although all the bottles are pricey. I really wish restaurants would start to offer more moderately priced 'house wine' for those of us that like to eat out often. But, I digress...everything was served beautifully and tasted great. Our server was knowledgeable and friendly. We'll definitely return after their winter vacation. They are closed through February."

  • "Had planned to visit about three days earlier for New Years, but health got in the way. The restaurant we wanted to go to was closed for winter vacation, so on the advice of the B&B proprietor, we chose the Bistro. We made the right choice, from ambience to inventive menu and wine list, everything was wonderful. The wait staff is great, we really can't wait to go back."

  • "Everything we had from the start was fantastic and it just kept getting better!!! My husband had the meatloaf special and said it was perfect! Great comfort food! I love scallops so I had the scallops and they were some of the best scallops I ever had! The sweet potato puree was out of this world! We both ate every last bite. There was a chocolate banana crunch bread pudding on the menu which is our favorite so we couldn't resist! It was the BEST bread pudding we have ever had! Fantastic! The service was excellent as well! We will definitely be going back!!!"

  • "Went for New Years Eve. Cream of Crab soup was delicious, large chunks of crab. We ordered the scallops and flounder. My husband ordered the scallops which were delicious. I ordered the flounder which was good but not great. Wish I would've ordered the scallops also. Would definitely recommend and will definitely dine at Bistro again."

  • "I'm glad I decided to try out the brunch at Bistro St Michaels. It was a satisfying experience despite an hour-and-a-half drive from Washington, D.C. The Crab Benedict's taste great. As I arrived very late, there were not many people and the place was rather quiet. The service was attentive."

  • "We started off with the deviled Egg appetizer, which was very good. The house cured bacon was a great compliment, although a bit fatty (of course, it's bacon). I had the bouillabaisse and my dining partner had a steak. Both were well prepared and very tasty, although the fennel flavor was a bit strong in the bouillabaisse for my liking. The restaurant feels like you are sitting in someone's home;very warm and inviting both in ambiance and the attentiveness of the staff. We also ordered a bottle of wine from a small but well represented wine list. The owner was ever present in the dining room, also checking with guests on their meals and needs, but never felt like she was hovering. Go here for dinner!"

  • "Overall excellent! Grouper was cooked just right, good flavors, Oyster Pot Pie is more of an oyster stew with a floating crust on top, but had outstanding flavor, was delicious! Salad with Chicken livers was a little disappointing, It appeared s if the salad have been sitting for a while, before it was served. chicken livers bruised and cold, but flavors good , and ate it all. Excellent rolls, nice wine selection, very friendly staff."

  • "The Bistro is our favorite restaurant in St. Michaels. The food, wine, and service are superb! If you are lucky, you will get Stephanie as your server. I always get fish and this time the flounder with the crab imperial was perfect. I also highly recommend the scallops. Salads are served as lovely smaller portions on individual plates when split--a very special touch. The beet/goat cheese salad is wonderful. Can't comment on the Bistro's desserts, because we always walk off our dinner by going down the street for ice cream!"

Deborah always makes us feel welcome."

  • "The Bistro is a converted, remodeled residence in the heart of St. Michaels. It is charming, welcoming and the food is very good. Portions are large, so ordering an appetizer could be too much of a good thing. Steak Frites was well prepared. The risotto's lobster and rockfish were only average and the dish suffered from too much time on the warming tray. The lobster was overly salty and the rockfish dry. The portion was easily enough for two. Dessert of three types of creme brulee was an updated version that we would order again and again. We were there for an anniversary dinner and were treated like royalty, including a glass of bubbly on the house. We left smiling and ready to return!"

  • "From start to finish, one of the best places to dine in St.Michaels. Holiday week, family in town and don't want to cook. Food was fabulous ! Service was attentive , without being intrusive . I started with the lobster salad~ avocado, tomatoes, lumps of lobster, my husband had the chicken liver salad, mom had the onion soup - we all agreed after sharing ~ GREAT ! Entrees : NY Strip, cooked perfect, Crab Cakes- lots of lumps and no filling( Mom said , best ever) and the special lamb shank - braised with a rosemary honey glaze, husband loved ! . We ended the evening with a pumpkin cheesecake . Lovely evening!!!! Kim our server was wonderful ."
