Welcome to Bistro St. Michaels. We create food that is rooted in traditional culinary styles, yet modern. We source the highest quality local ingredients, purchase sustainable seafood and free range eggs, work with people who raise their animals naturally, as well as partner with local farmers for the best organic vegetables. All of this comes together under the hand of Executive Chef David Hayes, a native of England whose “creative American” cuisine is prepared with a European flair.Many of our items are already gluten free or can be served gluten free. Thank you for taking the time to dine with us.

Our server, Shar (sp??) was very nice and attentive, and the meal delicious. We shared the tomato and mozzarella salad, which was split onto two plates for our convenience. My wife had the Seafood Risotto and I the Halibut over Pappardelle. Both were divine. I, too, and now recommending this restaurant."

  • "We were there on a holiday weekend, and the staff seemed overwhelmed. They seated us late (even with a reservation) and it took forever to get cocktails at the bar, however, the table service was attentive and everyone was very friendly. The dining area is a little cozy, but could be romantic if you're there with the right person. The food was terrific -- if they have the tempura softshell crabs on the menu, get them! You won't be disappointed."

  • "When you are in St. Michaels the first thing you think is crab and beer. This wonderful Bistro serves amazing seafood but with an elegant atmosphere. The wait staff were superb and they treated my 10 and 12 year old like little adults and that was very welcomed. The staff was extremely attentive, fun and knowledgeable about the food and wine. Will definitely go back an recommend to anyone who is looking to sit indoors, enjoy a lovely evening with wonderful food.,"

  • "I was very pleased with our dinner at The Bistro. Service was good. Waitress warned us of a large party upstairs and encouraged us to order quickly to avoid an extended wait. We did but never felt rushed to finish. Good wine selection. The dinner selections were seafood risotto which was excellent and the special, pan seared halibut, also very good. The appetizer, mussels was good, not great. Overall, very nice atmosphere, friendly waitress, very good food. We will go back."

However if you are going to this restaurant for an intimate dinner, you may want to pass it up. The noise level is very high here, good for a group of people but, not for a quiet dinner for two.   • "We ate here twice while in the area and raved about the food both times. Octopus appetizer was excellent (try it, really!), as were the mussels, both done with andouille. Pan-seared halibut, chicken imperial with pappardelle, day boat scallops and seafood risotto were all smash hits. The chef has a great touch and the accompaniments were every bit as delicious as the entrees. Bar drinks were generous, but the wine list could use a little more attention. A small place, but nicely appointed and we did not feel crowded. Service staff were all friendly--and covered each other's backs--but attentiveness was spotty. Can easily recommend the place and will go again the next time we are in the neighborhood."

  • "My husband and I returned to St Michael's to celebrate his birthday and this time we brought friends. The Bistro was an easy choice (it didn't hurt that we stayed next door at The Old Brick Inn). Our waitress Char (sp?) was helpful and sweet. She was invisible when we were deep in conversation and yet would reappear when we needed her. The wines were great. Loved the oysters appetizer. Everything was delicious and the portions were just the right size. Our friends who had never been to St Michael's enjoyed themselves, too! So glad some things never change. "

  • "A welcoming restaurant that was a warm harbor on a cold wet spring evening. We started with the grilled octopus which was warm and the right size to share. My order of the scallops were delicious, the bed of corn saute highlighting their sweetness. My husband ordered the seafood risotto was bountiful but very rich. Overall a good dining experience, worthy of an anniversary dinner."

  • "Had a wonderful meal recently and sat back at the bar with their bartender Kelli . Kelli did a great job of insuring we had a great meal , and nice conversation. You have to try off their drink list , the Cucumber mint martini , nice and refreshing The food was outstanding. I had the crab soup, chucks of crab meat ! Moved on to their veal chop...cooked perfectly. They have a nice wine list, wines that I can actually pronounce the names . While it is a small restaurant we were nicely surprised of their upstairs dining room, where we were informed that do larger parties...overall the Bistro was a culinary experience, great evening .   • "We have been meaning to try Bistro St. Michael's for years but never got around to it until this weekend. We had assumed that it was a tiny restaurant, but in fact, they have tables on both floors of the building as well as outside on the porch. The food was excellent. I had the halibut which was cooked perfectly, and my husband opted for the tempura soft shell crab special. Tempura batter can be overwhelming, but whatever they coated the soft shells with was crunchy and not at all heavy. Our waiter was extremely attentive and helped to make our dining experience a positive one. Although this restaurant is on the pricy side, it was well worth the 35 minute drive. We will return."

  • "My husband and I were in town for our anniversary and heard great things about their brunch. We made reservations for noon on Sunday. We heard great things about this place from everyone, especially the Harbour Inn where we were staying. Unfortunately the experience fell short of our expectations. Our server seemed flustered when we got there (and it was not busy). I asked for a drink menu and he looked at me like I was an alcoholic (I just wanted a mimosa or something, not know that the drink menu only had martini). We ordered our food and it came out in a timely fashion but it was just ok. The Croque Monsieur was good heavy on the bread and cheese, light on everything else. The music was barley on which makes for an awkward atmosphere. "

  • "I'll try to hold back on the superlatives, so others won't have too high expectations. My husband had the heirloom tomato salad, and, even though it is not tomato season, he said the tomatoes tasted like the summer's best. I had the asparagus salad, which was also delicious. We both had specials, halibut and crab cake on pasta. Both were excellent. The wait staff stood behind the bar and chatted very quietly, so they were able to glance at the tables and see when we were ready for the next course. We had no feeling of being rushed, but neither did we have to endure the long wait that happens many places. Bistro St. Michaels was a dining treat."

  • "Quality ingredients, beautifully presented. The crab bisque was GF and very unique, with large lumps of sweet crab meat in a savory sherry base with creme fraiche dolloped on top. I also enjoyed a delightful bib lettuce version of a wedge salad, with generous crumbles of blue cheese and fresh walnuts, without any sugar glaze, thankfully. And topped it off with an extraordinary passionfruit mousse with a thin passionfruit gelatin top, served with just the right amt. of whipped cream, blackberries and strawberries, along side a mouth - puckering coulis of exquisitely tart passionfruit. Well-balanced, and light. Do call ahead for reservations. Very friendly and attentive wait staff. Welcoming atmosphere. Comfortable. "

  • "We had two nights in St. Michael's and this was one of the two places we chose to eat dinner. We were certainly glad we did, the food was wonderful. I had scallops on bacon lardons with corn and peas and it was amazing. Good sized portion and great flavor combinations. The lobster and crab pasta was the special and that was good too, although not quite as good as the scallops. We also had the artichoke fries (which are just breaded artichoke hearts) and they were good but I probably would skip them and get dessert instead next time. We were much too full. The service was very good, although it was a really slow night. "

  • "The host was very welcoming and the meatloaf special was delicious. But everything else was a disappointment. We were told that there was only one crab cake pasta special left so I told our server to reserve it for me. 5 minutes later, came back to say that "we were too late." At $12, the appetizer was a poor value. The terrine itself, while small, was fine. The problem was that it came with 3 small pieces of toast. We're were given a 4th when we requested it but still had half the terrine left with no toast on which to spread it. We ordered house specialty Margaritas and I was then told they were out of ginger so I had to change my order again. The Margaritas were mostly ice; at $12, we felt this was unacceptable. "

  • "We had been advised we would have an absolutely wonderful experience at Bistro St. Michael's and my wife and I really felt we deserved and were looking forward to it. Unfortunately, it was far too noisy the entire time we were there and my wife felt displaced by the hovering 'friends' of those at tables next to ours. The manager sought to quiet the surprisingly rowdy bar crowd [it was only 7:30 pm] but the over the top noise level really deflated and shortened what we had hoped would be a highlight of our brief break from the City.   • "Reviewers and locals love this restaurant. Maybe it was an off night, but the I was not impressed. For a restaurant of this class, the waiter should have some familiarity with wine list. Mine didn't even know what a blanc de blanc was (which was listed right on the wine list). The seafood risotto was drowned in sauce and the scallops were tough and tasteless. "
