Diner Reviews
  • "I thoroughly enjoyed my Saturday evening with friends at Birroteca. The food is DIVINE: incredible flavors and impressive selection. No one else in my party had been there before, and we all seriously enjoyed our meals. The wine/beer/drink selection is also fabulous, and the server was attentive, despite the busy-ness of the bar. My only regret is that the big tables are all in the bar, which was very loud and made conversation difficult. Still, I'm glad to see such a great restaurant thriving. Can't wait to go again!"

  • "Actually,it always starts with a drink, right? And B-Tec's drink list is extensive and impressive.Appetizers--equally impressive. But the two best pizzas I've had recently have both been here. The last one had tomatoes so fresh that melted in my mouth-and I would have gotten another, different one(a favorite from before)had it not been for the recommendation of our waiter."

  • "This was my second time dining here. My first visit was soon after they opened and they still had a lot of kinks to work through. My last visit was not much better than the first. The food was just ok, the service was just ok, the noise level is way up there. We were seated in the bar, even though I made a reservation several days ahead of time. The dessert ( their version of s'mores) was probably the worst dessert I've ever had. The marshmallows were not melted but burned and had a very potent chemical taste which must have come from the blow torch. The graham crackers were tasteless. The pizza was ok but the crust was very tough. On the other hand, the Brussel sprouts were amazing."

  • "Nice roasted brussels sprouts. We enjoyed the Double D and Margherita pizzas, but note that cheese is basically non existent on both. Crust is a fire-baked hard bite, meatballs had nice flavor. Cesar salad had wonderful buttery croutons."

  • "Creative, fresh, unique. The staff is attentive and knowledgeable. The bar is beautiful room but the stone walls and floors also means the room can get extremely loud."

  • "Our party of 6 got slow service with one main dish forgotten. Our server seemed harassed & commented she had 12 tables. The appetizers were good, those who got risotto or pasta liked their meals. Pizza and other main dishes were mediocre at best. The place was busy and there was a high energy and noise level. The bars to let me rate noise don't seem to be working, it was so loud we could hardly hold a conversation. Clearly the low prices, casual food and neighborhood location are draws.Overall a disappointing experience."

  • "Great risotto and beet salad - perfect meal to share."

  • "All of the dishes, from small plates to entrees, had beautiful blend of flavors. We decided on pork belly and octopus followed by Tagliatelle and Polenta Gnocch, all delicious. An extensive beer list was diminished by the number "not available" but there are enough from which to choose. The ease of parking on their own lot makes the choice to come here easier. Prices are reasonable and the table settings and placement makes for comfortable dining."

  • "Fantastic place with phenomenal food. Delicious apps get the night going while you sip on great wine/beer/cocktails and then.. Bring on the pies! Not your tradition pizza, I'm talking Duck con fit with balsamic glaze! To die for! Highly recommended!"

  • "I went to Birroteca with a friend for dinner. Other than it being loud, we had a great time. The food was wonderful and the waitress was really responsive and cool with fun blue, pink and black hair. We ordered mussels for an app which were cooked just right (plump & juicy). Then we ordered the arugula salad which was delicious with fresh strawberries & blue cheese. Next we got the orchiette pasta with fresh asparagus and the Cibola pizza (onions with a smooth creamy sauce). Desert was delicious too. We had something that resembled chocolate cream of wheat with ice cream. I love to try fun drinks so I drank the blueberry splash drink which was quite tart & refreshing. Next I drank the week's special which had bourban in it."

  • "Second time dining at Birroteca and it is definitely a favorite! The staff was super cool and accommodating of my friend and her small baby. The cocktails delicious; the bottles of wine - great selection at a reasonable price. The food is just outstanding - the calimari appetizer was cooked perfectly - nice and tender. The brussel sprouts were amazing. We all forgot how big the pizzas are and each chose our own - but can easilly be shared family style. The Duck Duck Goose - both the gluten free and regular options were delicious. The Kale Salad was bright and filling. We will definitely be back!"

  • "Everything was delicious, but the brussel sprouts are amazing!!! Don't miss out on them, they will turn the most adament hater into a convert."

  • "The restaurant vibe was great; noisy, but not too loud. The food was a bit hit or miss, but mostly miss. The calamari dish was fantastic and different then the usual fried calamari that most places offer. My golden beet pasta dish was decent, but the chopped pistacios didn't seem to add anything to the dish except a bit of color (and I love pistacios). The proscuitto bruschetta was good, but heavy on the aioli. I didn't like the fennel sausage at all. For dessert, the ice creams were great, but the addition of polenta in one of the dishes didn't work at all. Service at the bar was great, but was pretty poor at the table. Felt like our server was going through the motions and I don't know if she smiled at all."

  • "The food here was absolutely outstanding. The best calamari I have ever had - melted in the mouth! Recommend the brussel sprouts appetizer in additon to the calamari. Also the pappardelle bolognese. We sat upstairs, which was very nice. Prices are reasonable for the great food."

  • "The beer selection is decent, but missing a few standards and local favorites, like the new Doobys on Charles street. The grilled squid is good, but surprisingly the pizza is uneven. Some were pretty good, while others fell short of any self respecting pizza place like Hersh's in Federal Hill or Verdes in Canton. The kale salad was also disappointing. Btw, they charge for a cold sliced bread."

  • "Food was fabulous per usual. The prosciutto/arugula bruschetta is my favorite thing on the menu. I get it every time. Always fantastic. Risotto was lovely."

  • "Food was excellent and different. They have a great selection of beers. It was a fun place to go. While it seems like it should be a bar, there is a dining room area. There were children there and that was fine. The only issue was it was a little loud, but you could call it energetic."

  • "Good menu if you like pizza and pasta. Probably should add some less fattening menu choices like fish or meats as a main course."
    Dined on 7/5/2014
  • "We loved our food and food choices and our server was helpful and nice..but we ordered three courses and all three arrived within 5 minutes of each other. This did not make for a relaxed dining experience and it shocked us considering the caliber of the food.do they need to know that diners want to eat one course before the next course is served? Thank goodness we didn't order dessert until we had finished the other food or I fear we would have gotten that along with our Brussels sprouts too!"

  • "After a recommendation from a friend, my husband and I decided to try this on July 4. The bruschetta with white beans had so much mustard (yes: mustard) that we couldn't taste anything else. The pasta with boar meat tasted way too sweet, like canned roast beef. My pasta with fennel sausage and broccoli rabe:no fennel taste, sausage served semi-raw and the rabe was terribly bitter. It's a shame the food is so awful, cuz the ambience and service were quite good."

  • "Went to Birroteca with a group of friends for a night out. We had a great time. The extensive beer selection and the charcueterie board were the hghlights of our evening. In addition, our pizza selections were delicisious. We plan to return soon"

  • "My husband and I "ended up" here because of a disappointment with another restaurant (not wanting to honor a free meal won in a charity raffle--HoCo, go figure). Anyway, it turned out to be a blessing in disguise. The folks at Birroteca were warm, welcoming, and full of humor & good cheer. The old mill makes for an interesting setting. And the food and drinks were absolutely delicious. We each ordered wonderful cocktails and appetizer and enjoyed them so much, we decided to split a bottle of wine and share more "small plates" rather than ordering pasta or pizza (though we fully intend to go back and try those as well). Everything ended perfectly with coffees and a shared dessert. We have only praise for Birroteca and hope to return soon!"

  • "This is one of our favorite places! The food is fresh and delicious, the restaurant itself is adorbs and it is a true neighborhood gem."

  • "This was my first dining experience here and it was great. The local brew and cocktails we had were delicious. We ordered 3 different pizzas and shared them - great way to try the various selections. The combinations of ingredients were so flavorful, we could not decide which (if any) was the best. However, a particular favorite was the duck w/egg & balsamic drizzle...my mouth is watering now! Server was very attentive and knowledgeable. The noise level was not "energetic", it was noisy. That being said, it is not a deterrent - our whole party will be repeat customers many times over."

  • "We chose to eat at a table in the bar. Even on a Tuesday, the tables were busy, yet our server was efficient and professional. Food choices were creative and delicious, e.g. white bean, goat cheese, arugula bruschetta and myriad pizza selections."

  • "From salad to pasta to pizza to dessert, this place was delicious. I only wish I had a bigger stomach to try more!! We will definitely return in the very near future to continue to explore the menu. Be sure tonsave room for dessert...the homemade ice cream is dreamy goodness."

  • "Too loud, mediocre service, good pizza. Nice setting, with wood and exposed masonry."

  • "Food reasonably priced. Good alcohol selection.only negative aspect was the waitress boxed up our food before we were done with our food."

  • "Atmosphere was terrific and the staff was super friendly and accommodating. We go the duck pizza to split, pork belly and grilled calamari. The grilled Calamari was totally great, really light and tender. Both the pork belly and duck pizza were classic salty sweet combinations but both were way too sweet. Particularly the duck pizza, it tasted only like sweet bbq sauce or balsamic vinegar. Crust was really goody but the toppings overwhelmed everything else with sweetness."

  • "Birroteca has a good vide when you walk in. Very good bar; nice wine refrigerator. Service is always good and you can find some tasty items on the menu. You can also find some that aren't as tasty, but overall a good experience."

  • "This is the second time we've gone there. We really enjoy it. This time they had a problem with all the food coming out at the same time (appetizers and dinner) but they apologized and offered us free dessert. Food is always terrific and we'll go back!"

  • "We went to Birroteca with friends Sat night and had a good time. The eggplant fries were a 5 out of 10, not as good as others I've had, but definitely edible. The chopped kale salad was also about a 5 out of 10, but that might be because kale in a salad just can't taste so good. Or maybe it could have been doused with more dressing to give it a better flavor. The Locavore pizza was about a 7 out of 10. I went to a winery the weekend before and had a much better coal-fired veggie pizza, but the one at Birroteca was decent. I guess I must have ordered the wrong things because my friends raved about their calamari and brussel sprouts. The best part was the hard cider, which was absolutely delicious and came in an enormous bottle."

  • "This was our 3rd time at the restaurant. We don't usually go to a restaurant more than once unless it is really good. While our last two meals were really good, this one was even better. Highly recommend the pork shank special on Sat nights. Good beer list. We'll be back."
