Diner Reviews
  • "We've been here before and know this place gets busy/loud. This time we made a reservation for 8:15 PM on a Wednesday, but didn't get seated until about 8:45. We understand that seating isn't an exact science, but if you make a reservation seating should take so long. The food is great and the beer selection is nicely diverse. The staff are all very nice and knowledgeable. "

  • "have been going here for years but it may be reaching the breaking point. Parking is inadequate to the crush; servers are too few and perfunctory; items get confused [three incorrect dishes were delivered to us]; and noise is much louder in dining area than I remember. Being killed by success?"

  • "Our one complaint is that several items on the menu weren't available. The menu includes gluten free pizza and pasta, one of the reasons my gluten-intolerant wife wanted to try it. The waiter said they didn't have any gluten free pizza dough. My wife then picked a gluten free pasta dish. I ordered a wild mushroom pizza. The waiter came back to tell us the main ingedient in the pasta dish wasn't available. It's very simple: if it's on your menu, it should be available during dinner, unless, perhaps, it's a special that involves ingredients of limited availablity. Gluten free is no longer unusual - it should be a no-brainer to keep the ingredients in stock, or have a backup plan. My pizza was very good and my wife's third choice was fine."

  • "Enjoyed great salads and pizza, good beers and wine. They accommodated our desires for different pizza toppings over their standard toppings (Take note Verde!). Only complaint was we sat in the bar area, and it was deafening."

  • "We enjoyed our dinner but the food was not as delish as our previous trips. The pizza was very good, however, the papadelle was too tomatoey and therefore covered up the flavor of the wild boar. The waitstaff was over worked and our table suffered from a lack of attention. For example, my husband was offered a second beer while my empty wine glass was totally overlooked. In general, I would recommend the restaurant but it is no longer a "must go" for me."

  • "Stone walls and low ceilings created great, casual ambiance (and a high noise level). Our party shared the roast duck, which was superb."

  • "we went with our 2 teenage daughters and had a great meal. the menu is varied enough for everyone to find something they like; the pizzas are great. Everything on the menu is meant to share, so you get to pick from each others plates and sample; really like that concept. Food was all well prepared and with fresh ingredients, but some times a bit underseasoned for my taste. But overall excellent dinner and will defintely be back!"

  • "Great place once you find it! Second time here and would definitely recommend. I'm kind of sorry I had to share the duck pizza and the calamari. So good. Hope you don't mind being social with the neighboring tables, things are kinda close. Still well worth the visit; great for a date."

  • "Ambience: loved the location and building restoration, but noise level was pretty high. Food: calamari delicious, Caesar salad would benefit from a more "Caesary" dressing, beet and goat cheese ravioli was well prepared but portion was skimpy Drinks: liked the imaginative cocktails Service: friendly and attentive wait staff"

  • "Enjoyed an awesome meal here on a Friday night to celebrate a birthday with a friends. Great for a group that's into sharing! We ordered lots of sides, including veggies (brussel sprouts = AMAZING) and a bruschetta, and then a few pizzas (wild mushroom!). Every ingredient was so fresh and made for absolutely delicious dishes. Wine list was huge and reasonably priced, while the beer list showcased tons of the best Baltimore breweries. We ordered a few dishes at a time and everything came out very quickly. Despite the restaurant being very busy, we were not rushed at all. Our waitress was so attentive and great with helping make any tough decisions. All in all, amazing food, atmosphere, waitstaff, etc. We will definitely be coming back!"

  • "2nd time here and as before, was not disappointed by the food and service. Outstanding pizzas and appetizers, all delivered by an accommodating staff. We were seated upstairs this time, which as essentially the same layout and size, but for some reason seemed much louder. It was very difficult to carry on a conversation at our small table of four."

  • "Another great meal.... font go early for pizza though takes a while for pizza oven to heat up... long wait for pizzas at lunch"

  • "We made reservations on line, then called to say we'd be late. Andy was very accommodating and when we arrived, they managed to find a table in the dining room for us. (We were looking for a quiet table away from the bar, and that is just what we found.) We ordered Tagliatelle with rabbit - absolutely the right mix of seasonings, a perfect creamy texture, and ultimately, sublime. We had tried the Brussels Sprouts on a previous visit and loved them, but wanted to try something new. Our server guided us to the arugula and fennel salad with dolce ricotta. Again, perfect! Finally, we tried the Double D pizza with meatballs. Crisp, thin crust, flavorful seasonings, a touch of cheese and tomato - we will go back again soon."

  • "I came here on a double date, and all four of us really enjoyed our food. I had the Wild Boar Bolognese. The flavor was perfect and the dish was not too heavy. This restaurant is gluten-free friendly, which I really appreciate. The staff are educated about what ingredients include flour/gluten and will alert you if you pick something you *think* is GF but really isn't. The wine list is well-curated but not too short, and I was happy to see Vinho Verde and Barbera wines on it. The cheese/meat boards are expertly matched. It was a little loud for me, but I still had a great time and will definitely go back! Can't wait to dine here in the summer."

  • "We came to try the pizza, but were most impressed with the cocktails and sides. The pizzas were good, but weren't nearly as impressive as we thought they'd be. The famed duck duck goose pizza was good, but incredibly sweet. However, the sides and apps were tremendous and the cocktails exceeded our expectations. If we come back, I think I'll stick to the left side of the menu. Also, I made a reservation for two to celebrate my husband's birthday a while back. It was a Monday night, and even with that reservation, we weren't seated at the open, two-person table we passed in the main dining room, but at a high-top in the bar area next to the kitchen, where the kitchen and bar music clashed from time to time. Disappointing."

  • "really enjoyed each of 4 dishes we tried, esp. bruschetta and salad. Attentive. friendly servers. Nice wine choices. Relaxed, comfortable atmosphere. Not too loud. Nice alternative to Johnny's and Petit Louis in price and menu choices. MUCH less noisy and more generous servings than PL and Johnny's."

  • "Made reservations for a group of 6 - we were seated at one of the high top tables in the bar area. It was noisy but we were still able to have conversation. The service was very good. There was an error of a missed side dish - however she was kind enough to admit the mistake and cover the cost for it herself and bring it out in the end. The calamari appetizer was really tasty but I was a little disappointed in the pizza. Lacked some flavoring and the crust was not my favorite. Would still come here again however as many of the other menu options were tempting!"

  • "I love this place. We got a bruschetta with beans - awesome - calamari - tender - fried chick peas - super spicy and yummy - beet cured salmon - good - but the duck confit pizza - too sweet. I couldn't even eat it. Next time I will stick with the other pizzas and ask the server before ordering if anything is sweet. I will definitely go back - the other times were too delicious!!"

  • "Went here for a date night with my SO the night before last and it was a treat! Spent more than I would have liked but only because the place was so tempting! The duck pizza was wonderful, and my SO loved the beet ravioli. The salumi and cheese plate we got was great and we went with the recommendation of the chef and server. Wonderful time! Server was super friendly and knowledgeable! This will definitely be a go to spot for us!"

  • "This was our second visit to Birroteca. Everything about our visit was great. The food was wonderful, our waitress was very friendly and knowledgeable, and the service was perfect. Our food came quickly, but we did not feel rushed at all. Definitely a place we will visit again. Our waitress told us they have outdoor dining in the summer, so we are looking forward to visiting again then."

  • "I've been to B in the past and was disappointed as well. The only reason I ate there Monday night is because a friend wanted to. The only redeeming part of the meal was the salad. The meatballs were cold, the polenta was bland, and ice cream was way too creamy. I won't be coming back, sorry."

  • "Wonderful dinner at Birroteca. Their beer list is interesting and not as predictable as other places that carry the standard microbrew selections. On a related note, one minor complaint/warning: the menu does not include ABV%. The food was excellent. Tender calamari that was not battered and fried was a refreshing change of pace. Crispy Brussels sprouts were delicious and served in a generous portion for sharing. We also shared a Margherita pizza, which was one of the best that I have had lately. And I am still thinking about my dessert- a layered olive oil cake with mascarpone filling, served with a scoop of olive oil and sea salt ice cream. Perfect for someone who doesn't want to finish the evening with something super sweet."

  • "The food at birroteca is the best. We always take out-of-towners there and they are always impressed. Please try the brussels sprouts."

  • "I am not sure which is the best - the beer, the pasta, or the pizza? All are great and I always leave happy. I tried the caesar salad for the first time this trip and it was awesome - love the no egg dressing! Great beers, love the environment, and friendly service. Definitely worth the trip!"

  • "My wife and I have been to Birroteca twice now. This time with my parents and the experience and food was just as top notch. The service was incredible. Our server was very knowledgable on everything the menu offered and even had some insight in the Gluten Free options. Once again the food was spectacular. The meat and cheese plate was perfect. The pizza, just incredible. We'll definitely be dining at Birroteca again."

  • "We have eaten here before and enjoyed it. However, this time was very disappointing. We ordered 2 appetizers. Chickpeas were delicious and Brussel sprouts were good despite too oily. The pasta which was recommended by our waitress was void of any flavor and the salmon tartar was not edible. My sons pizza was undercooked. We would not go back."

  • "Food was delicious. Our server was upbeat and knowledgeable about the menu. We weren't rushed; pacing was perfect. The wine list was extensive offering a range of prices. A bottle was very affordable. I'm not a beer drinker but the variety of craft beers was nice as well. The salty olive oil ice cream should not be missed."

  • "Went to dinner with some good friends on a Thursday evening. The place was crowded which is always a good sign:) We shared a salad, appetizer and 2 pizza's. Everything was great! Our server was very attentive as was most everyone who worked there. We stayed until the restaurant part was empty but the bar (and upstairs) was still going strong. Definite repeat! Want to try other dishes:)"

  • "The food was very fresh and well seasoned. The Wait staff was very attentive and accommodating. We did not have several different dishes but shared the mushroom pizza which was very satisfying . As an appetizer we had the cauliflower which was not as tasty, actually some of dish was overly cooked aka burned. Decided against dessert as our favorites of German chocolate cake and key lime pie were not available. Otherwise, a good experience and will return."

  • "Baltimore needed this rustic find! Housed in the Meadow Mills area of old "industrial Baltimore" in a creatively restored building. Had the porcini mushroom pizza (devine!), grilled calamari (perfect!), meatballs (needs fresh basil and shaved parm), and Brussels sprouts (crispy yum!). Run there! Loved it!"
