Diner Reviews
  • "The only problem we had , was our son had ordered a bottle of wine for us, our 30th anniversary and we did not receive it."

  • "Having lived four summers in Incline Village, I thought it was time to find a new restaurant beyond my standard favorites here and in Tahoe City. Mistake. We began with the pork appetizer which was often praised in other reviews. Our impression was an extremely small portion for the price, although the flavor was good. Next came the Caesar salad. Besides again being small in portion, it was dull and reminded me of a Caesar salad I'd get at any bargain restaurant. The dressing was insufficient leaving many of the leaves without coverage. Finally to the main course, where we had the rack of lamb (six chops) and rib eye. After waiting nearly one hour for them to be delivered, we were disappointed in both being over done and dry."

  • "A pleasant surprise, having booked a table "blindly" after an afternoon at the beach. Sat on the deck, which is at almost tree-top level, overlooking the lake. We did not go wrong on any of our food selections. Definitely a place to keep in mind while visiting Lake Tahoe."

  • "We were afraid the setting sun was going to be too bright for us and our friends at the table to which we were first shown. The manager very graciously allowed us to pick our table, which still had a view but less sun. The menu features two sizes of many entrees (and two prices!) which I rarely see, and greatly appreciate. I will definitely go back. Oh yes, the food was great as well."

  • "The restaurant has wonderful view of the mountains around it. The walls are glass so you can see all around you. The scallops were amazing! along with the ahi tuna poke and crab cakes for appetizers. Will go back next time I'm in town."

  • "The panoramic views are gorgeous. The outside patio fun. Inside ambience great. Food good - nice that small and large portions are offered. The dessert menu could offer more."

  • "We live in town and have been here for several enjoyable meals. Last minute guests arrived and we thought this would be a special treat. A few items from the Internet menu were missing so it obviously was not kept up to date. I ordered scallops, he delivered salmon. Everyone felt obligated to wait for my entree before starting their meal. $ 24 for 1 big scallop, one small, 1/4 cup crunchy uncooked rice, beans. The scallops were not cooked fully so my plate was sent back, again my guests waited. The waiter was too busy to refresh empty wine glasses- they offered us a free dessert but were out of what we wanted. Shocked, disappointed and embarrassed."

  • "It was my first night visiting Lake Tahoe and being in the Incline Village area and we went to Big Water Grille based on a list of suggestions of where to eat. The view was gorgeous of the landscape but it was hard to see the Lake honestly. It was a much louder venue than we anticipated and our server was off his game. The bus boy was more attentive and helpful than the waiter to be completely honest. However, I got the salmon and it was amazing. The food was excellent and it seemed like a good group/family place to go to. Not great for a couple or a date night."

  • "Good view friendly staff but below average food and no options for vegetarians highly overrated desserts are disgusting"

  • "It had been many years since we had dined here and we were pleasantly surprised at the quality of the food and service. the atmosphere has always been wonderful with the fantastic views available. We are very happy to have another high quality neighborhood restaurant to choose from."

  • "This gem of a restaurant is a lovely addition to the North Lake Tahoe experience. Unfortunately, if it's a full crowd, the noise level is deafening. Although pricey, the food is lovely and the wine/libration choices abound."
    Dined on 7/2/2014
  • "The food was good, the service was good but the prices were outrageous for what you got. I don't mind paying top dollar if the food is over the top. $14 for a small capresse salad appetizer is too much. Ribeye for $40 seemed over the top for the small portions served. They need to rethink their prices. The view of tahoe is not that spectacular from their noisy dinning area."

  • "This was our first time dining here and we were not disappointed. Food was excellent, and they also have a great kid's menu. Service was outstanding as well. Nice atmosphere with beautiful views of the lake. We were seated inside but also saw there is a deck by the bar. Will definitely return again on our next vacation to Tahoe!"

  • "My husband and I have eaten here often over the last 5 years. The food has remained excellent, however the service has declined. We have dined here off-season and in mid-summer, so I have experienced it when business is slow and when it is chaotic. This visit has left my husband and me with the feeling we will not return. First of all, the maître d' was engrossed in a conversation with someone he seemed to know and turned his back on our party and a woman waiting behind us. My husband went around the podium and interrupted the conversation and asked the maître d' to help us. He waved off my husband and said it would be a minute. A few minutes later someone else came along and seated us. It went downhill from there."

  • "This is not a place we frequnt that much in Tahoe as the prices can be high. However, when we do go it never disappoints. The food is good and the service is likewise. The best reason for eating at BWG is the incredible views of Lake Tahoe. It makes every thing better. Menu is varied and offers something for everyone."

  • "We are new to Reno and went with our neighbors who are also new to Reno. Food was great, service unbeatable, and loved the views high up in the trees. The bar area looked inviting but we didn't stay. Will definitely put it on our list of Tahoe favorites. Highly recommend, a little on the pricey side, but worth it."

  • "I made a reservation here via Open Table for my husbands birthday. I put a special note into Open Table and told the waiter when we arrived. Not a "happy birthday" was in site. No candle in his dessert. Needless to say I was very disappointed with the service... and it was crushing for my kids not to see Dad blow out a candle. If you are going to have a section with special notes, you might want to make sure it gets read by the restaurant. I felt the food was pretty average for a $200+ bill. The pork belly was burnt and the potato/grain that came with it was runny and mushy. The steak and fried chicken were cooked well. The Ahi Poke was quite good. Next time for this much $$$, I will be going to Lone Eagle!"

  • "Went here for a special birthday gathering of 8 friends and none of us was disappointed. We shared starters (wild mushroom tart and ahi tuna poke were standouts) that were just the right amount to get our taste buds tuned up for the feast to follow. Entrees were all outstanding, but those who did not have beef seemed more pleased. The steaks were good, but not over the top. The pork chop, duck breast and special fish of the evening (a type of sea bass) were all prepared perfectly and accompanied with outstanding sides. The clear winner of the eveing, however, was the pasta special: penne pasta in a very light cream and wine sauce with roasted heirloom tomatoes.....a simple dish that was tasty beyond all description. "

  • "We had a very nice experience at BWG. There were 7 of us and everyone really enjoyed the dinner. The views are spectacular and the service was great. The waiter seemed to anticipate what we needed without being intrusive. We have been here many times in the past, but this was the best!"

  • "We went to Lake Tahoe on a weekend getaway not expecting snow so late in the year. We had a window table at Big Water Grille and had a breath taking view of the snow coming down. The food was amazing as usual and it was a delightful evening. We hope to be back there next month."

  • "I used to go to this place years ago and it was really good. Lately the service is less that good, staff seemingly didn't really care about quality or guest experience, and servers/bartenders seemed inexperienced. Prices indicate it is a high end resturaunt but that is the only thing. We were disappointed. "

  • "Waiter did not seem to care about our dinning experience. Food was marginal. Probably won't be back, to many other options for the price."

  • "Nice, beautiful, tasty..... My husband and I had very pleasant dinner here!"

  • "Easy to find, good looking menu (a little smaller, which is good and leads to 10 things they make really well instead of 30 things that are just ok), great view. The food was good, but the appetizer was painfully small. $9 for pork belly and grits with an onion ring is acceptable if the pork is amazing. The pork was very good, but I would have liked more than 2 bites of it... Otherwise, very good time. My steak had a great wood fire taste and her fried chicken had really crisp and good skin. The blondie dessert with a medium french press was the perfect way to end the meal."

  • "We enjoyed an evening out with friends to the Mark Twain Cultural Center in Incline Village. Prior to the program, we had a lovely dinner at The Big Water Grille on Ski Way. The restaurant looks out at Lake Tahoe. The menu had a broad selection of choices, especially " starters." A member of our party actually chose a " Starter" and the soup for dinner and enjoyed them greatly. I had the salmon and it was excellent. Others had the beef which they declared very goodl. While the dessert menu is a bit limited, the after dinner libations are significant, and we could easily have dallied for another hour over some port or dessert wines. My only complaint was the service was a bit slow and the bread was portioned rather meagerly."

  • "Big Water Grille is a slam dunk! The food is amazing, has an incredible view and the staff was fantastic! Bill, our server was personable and made the evening extremely enjoyable. This restaurant is a win-win all the way around!"

  • "Truly gorgeous setting. Panoramic view of Tahoe, gigantic picture windows. Understated decor highlights the deep blues of the lake and mountains. The food was carefully prepared, and well presented. Not the most extensive menu, but this is the middle of winter in the mountains in a really bad drought. That said, I'm going back after that pork chop!! We'll wait till a little later in the spring, so we can catch a little more sunset with our cocktails...."

  • "Service was excellent, salads were large and prepared well. Berkshire pork chop was excellent, although I would have liked it a little pink inside as it was cooked well throughout."

  • "Big Water Grill is a great restaurant that failed to perform on New Years Eve. We booked the 8:15 Prix Fix holiday dinner to enjoy the evening with out of town guests. The dinner was rushed with dinner order requested immediately after cocktails were served. Within 15 minutes our crab appetizers were served barely warm, a banquette of plain bread, no butter was placed on the table room temperature and the entree was served 20 minutes later, but not as requested. Lamb was ordered well done instead of customary pink. Spinach substitution request was not remembered. Dessert came unadorned without any offer of coffee or after dinner drink. Certainly not a New Years Eve attempt . After table was cleared, we left by 10, no music, hats warmth."

  • "We took our teen boys to Big Water Grille for New Years Eve dinner at the early sitting. It was first rate. The pre fixe menu was well thought out with a choice between beef filet, rack of lamb or scallops. The staff was extremely professional and attentive. They didn't treat us with a lower service level because we had teens/kids with us (sadly, this has happened to me at other restaurants). The food was spectacular. As one of our boys commented, "they really know what they are doing here" and I couldn't agree more!"

  • "Nice. Food was good. We were happy overall, but the service was a bit off until the bus boy/guy with the fancy mustache stepped up and turned it all around. Not sure if the waiter was slammed or what, but he just wasn't around much. The mustachioed guy was able to help us on several occasions. He was extremely pleasant and seemed well informed about the menu options. When I (a vegetarian) discovered that the brussel sprouts I ordered were cooked with bacon, he did a quick replacement, and we were happy. This guy should be promoted IMHO. Anyway, I'd suggest putting the ingredients on the menu or giving customers the heads up."

  • "I would suggest you consider Big Water Grill for cocktails but not dinner. Our meal started with Crab cakes on wired lettuce and a flavorless mushroom tart. We then had a over cooked porterhouse and some reasonable fried chicken. The service was reasonably attentive although how they served the Crabb cakes as they were is questionable."

  • "Beautifully perched on the northern slopes above Lake Tahoe the diner is treated to deliciously prepared food. The salmon was perfect, and the vegetarian quinoa vegetable mushroom dish served with an alternate sauce was a real treat. The staff was attentive, friendly and accommodating, timing their visits flawlessly, and gave great personalized service."

  • "My husband and I traveled to Incline, NV for a weekend of sightseeing and relaxation with two other couples. Our group made a plan to dine out one night only, and selected Big Water Grille for this event. As expected, the restaurant was beautiful and the service professional and friendly. The only negative would be that the menu selections were limited, but the staff accommodated our requests and steered us towards dishes we would enjoy."

  • "The buffalo prime rib or something with lentils had a funky salty flavor. Caper butter pasta with clams and mussels was excellent and paired with a pinot grigio."
