Big Fish is an unpretentious destination specializing in fresh fish, seafood, and a daily variety of fresh east and west coast oysters.

We are a proud member of the Oceanwise conservation program created by the Vancouver Aquarium. Most of our dishes are created from sustainable seafood sources.

Big Fish is a top three finalist in the Where to Dine Awards three years running - 2010 "Best Wine", 2011 "Best Seafood" and 2012 "Best Seafood".

  • "I can't believe that this place has been around for 10 years and I didn't know about it. A hidden jewel. The menu is exceptional. Had the seafood chowder which was a perfect broth and ample seafood. Had the arctic char which was done to perfection and in a nice portion. Loved the mashed potatoes. Pure comfort. Nice people."

  • "We started with a dozen oysters, a mash-up of the 6 varieties that they offer, they were gritty, and and had bits of shell in them. Our appetizer, a smoked Canadian sturgeon fritter, was overcooked to the point of tasting burned and had zero flavor. My wife had a pistachio crusted arctic char as her main and found it to be fairly good, but the ratio of mashed potatoes to vegetables was off. I had the wild salmon with dungeness crab, the crab and lentils were good, but the salmon was raw!! Our waitress argued with me when I sent it back stating that they cook their fish to medium and that I should have read the menu. She came back about 10 minutes later saying that she looked at the salmon and realized that it was in fact raw."

  • "Oysters were fresh, chowder had a lot of seafood, crab cake was a little too firm, clams were very flavorful (toast that came with it was amazing) and cod was cooked perfectly. The service was excellent. Always on top with filling water and clearing dishes and giving new cutlery. They timed the dishes perfectly as my husband and I ordered 4 appetizers and one entree to share."

  • "My Fiance and I saw this restaurant while watching the food networks's "You gotta eat here". Our immediate reaction (as with any food network showing) was, "We gotta try it". Coming into the restaurant It would seem that we might have set out expectations a little too high. The food was quite good, but the service was lacking. It took our server almost 15 minutes after getting seated to come and ask us for drinks. This was on a weekday and they were at roughly 50% occupancy. The oysters were above average, considering we are eating seafood in Calgary. The lobster and lamb hamburger was very tasty, but was not anywhere as good as I was expecting after watching Food Network's episode. Like I said, i probably had unrealistic expectations."

  • "Our experiences have always been very good but when reserving through Open Table we saw some reviews that were pretty discouraging. We were warmly greeted, our table (the last one in the room) was ready and quickly we had a pair of the featured cocktails and a glass of wine. The cocktails were freshly with real fruit juices- delicious! The wine which the waiter had recommended- very nice. We shared the featured appetizers, a plate of baked oysters and a small pot of shrimp prepared with tomatoes and tortillas-yummy. The entrees included one from the menu, the featured fresh fare and a vegetarian dish put together by the chef. All in all, we had another terrific experience and we will be back again before very long!"

  • "This was our first visit to Big Fish. This innocuous restaurant delivers well prepared fish and seafood. My husband had the salmon but the spectacular aspect of the meal was the bed of puy lentils, crab and mushrooms that the fish rested upon. I had the bucket of peel and eat shrimp - more than enough for two. What was surprising about this restaurant is that many of the meals are gluten friendly. This is not a fancy establishment, more of a casual, comfortable, kick back and relax type restaurant. Perfect for after work on a Friday night."

  • "Oysters buy one dozen, receive second dozen on the house, Mondays. Great quality shuckings with no shell bits. Selection of east and west coast oysters to try. Very quick to bring them out too. Large selection of wines, but unfortunately most of the selections were by the bottle which isn't always ideal."

  • "Amazing as always; everyone I bring falls as in love with the food as I am. The beverage lists are as tempting as the menu, and I highly recommend saving a little room for dessert. I think the mussels must be my fave dish, and are always what I order when I bring new friends with me. I love the friendly staff who I secretly believe are all my best friends, and is it just me or is everyone that works there super good-looking? ;)"

  • "It was my friends 60th birthday and she's originally from the Maritimes so naturally loves seafood. I enjoy it as well. It was a fabulous lunch meal. Crab shrimp cakes were delicious. The special with arctic char saffron and mussels and shrimp were tasty and the seafood enchilada was delicious. Even the chocolate ganache dessert was a hit with her as well. It was quiet, quick and enjoyable. Thanks for a memorable birthday lunch for us both!"

  • "I have been several times for brunch at Big Fish, and every time I know I will be back. The food is excellent -- a nice selection of sweet and savory options. I usually have the French Toast or goat cheese omelette, and both are wonderful. My dining companions also enjoy the trout hash and the oatmeal. The service here is good -- the waiters are helpful but not constantly hovering. Overall, a great place."

  • "We have been going to the Big Fish for brunches regularly and have tried almost everything on their brunch menu, nothing that we did not like. Very friendly waiting staff, and fast service. I have tried capuccino this time, and was a bit disappointed though, the cup was very small, the froth wasn't thick at all, and the coffee was very bitter. I think I will go back to the regular coffee next time."

As an appetizer, the mussels were incredible-large,very tender and sweet. I think the best I have ever had! I'm told the pickerel was perfection.The service was exemplary-attentive but not hovering. The waiter was very knowledgeable and helpful with the menu and wine list. He answered all our questions about menu items, sourcing of food items and appropriate wine choices (even how to eat the burger). A small, cozy dining room. We will certainly be back."

The staff all helped to make it a special lunch and to carry the excitement and celebration throughout the meal. It was extremely memorable and the food was absolutely delicious.   • "Not often to I write reviews, but I honestly felt compelled to write this after our experience at Big Fish over the weekend! My wife has multiple food allergies and it is always a gamble when we go to any restaurant even if we notify them of the allergies ahead of time. The general answer is "Yeah we can accommodate". Big Fish on the other hand was definitely able to accommodate and they did a fantastic job about it. Given that my wife has a gluten intolerance they made appropriate substitutions to the set "Paella" menu. The Paella was amazing! The rice was ridiculously good and all the meats were delicious!! Love the place, the ambiance, and the chef are great! We definitely be back :)"

  • "I booked a couple weeks in advance for Valentine's Day (set menu) and my seating time choices were 5pm and 9:15pm. I chose the later one so we wouldnt be rushed from work to the restaurant, and I am so glad we did! It was calmed down from what I'm sure was a really busy night for them, and the ambience was great. We were really impressed with the food we chose but more so with the waiter. We had been on a bad service streak for a bit, but the waiter at Big Fish was there topping up our wine glasses while we waited for our food and was very knowledgable about what he was serving."
