A word from Biff's Bistro
Reminiscent of a 1930's Parisian Bistro, Biff's Bistro is a smart, upscale masterpiece by Toronto über-restaurateurs Peter Oliver and Michael Bonacini. The stylish lounge, featuring a stunning zinc-topped bar, represents pure vintage design, while handsome leather banquettes, warm wood paneling and grand mirrors create a rich, lively dining space. In this setting, Chef Amanda Ray presents an extensive menu of inspiring French bistro cuisine, with an impressive corresponding wine list. Located in the heart of downtown, just steps away from many downtown theatres, hotels and the Air Canada Centre.

Diner Reviews
  • "I cannot say enough about the service we received- unfortunately the Flat Iron Steak was not done enough for me on the inside even after they took it back- but all of the other food items we had was excellent - the Manager took great care in making sure we left with a good feeling-- I can only suggest that there be some way that the inside of the steak be cooked more- as some people do not like to see the red meat while eating it."

  • "I celebrated my daughter's birthday and we were absolutely treated like royalty! The server Amanda was an absolute gem and made our experience at Biff's most enjoyable! The food was delicious, the wine perfect, and the entire evening was fantastic! Biff's is truly fine dining at it's best!"

  • "Biff's has small rooms at the back of the restaurant away from the noise and bustle of the main room. These are ideal for a business lunch or any meal during which a quiet conversation is appealing. The Summerlicious menu available now is an excellent value."

  • "Poor service, not very attentive. We had basically to ask for everything. Bread arrived when not needed anymore. Cleaning other tables seemed to be more important than taking care of the guests. Food was good but not outstanding."

  • "The wait staff and management went out of their way to make sure my friend who has several food allergies was well taken care of and made sure her experience was memorable"

  • "This was our second time at Biff's in the past year. The first time we had a lot of problems with the service but they seemed to have overcome it now. The food was excellent bistro food and the service was restrained but there when needed."

  • "Recently tried Biff's Bistro and was surprised that Summerlicious has already kicked in! Our small group tried their menu and enjoyed the food, wine selection and relaxing atmosphere. Special thanks to our wonderful and patient server - she is a gem. I always feel that staff is an integral part of the experience. She had the right balance of 'knowing' her job and yet giving us our time."

  • "Service was slow. Had to send back three out of six entrees for undercooking. They were properly rectified and to their credit the restaurant comped us a bottle of wine for the inconvenience"

  • "Our group had an early dinner and had the Summerlicious menu. We enjoyed the cocktails and ambience. The staff were gracious in providing highchairs and crayons for toddlers. However, the food looked pretty but tasted only so-so. Some meals were quite tasty (the zucchini) while others were poor (the salmon). Overall, the food didn't measure up to our expectations. Our server didn't inquire as to whether there was a problem with a barely-touched app. Also, The bathroom is minuscule and has no change table for babies."

  • "Excellent place to eat. Kind and professional service. My fiancé surprise birthday was a great success because of this place. Would go back"

  • "The foie gras appetizer was excellent and just enough to split. I had the duck breast for an entree - perfectly cooked and seasoned. The desserts are very rich. Good service, great food. Definitely will return."

  • "We were visiting Toronto for my birthday. After a disappointing arrival finding out hotel reservation price not honored, we were a bit down when we got to Biff's. Everyone was extra nice though when we arrived 30 minutes before our reservation time. From the young woman who met us at the door to the seater who graciously accepted our request to be sat at a corner table rather than the original one. They were quite kind while we waited for our preferred table to be cleared. Dinner for me was the chicken pate and the trout and my fiancé had mushroom soup and beef bourguignon. It was some of the best food I had had since my last visit to Europe. Truly a memorable evening."

  • "Great restaurant away from the crowds of Toronto. Always a great meal, oysters, steak and frites are yummy. Service is outstanding, attentive without being overbearing. Great patio too!"

  • "Having dined here on multiple occasions in the past I was extremely disappointed on my most recent visit We waited over 15 minutes just to be served some bread and this was only after I asked twice: having said that the bread was the best part of the dining experience The appetizer portion of smelts was so miniscule I had to laugh until I tasted them and then I cried Tepid and greasy is being kind to this dish. All four of us observed that our mains were over cooked and heavily over salted. Additionally, the portion size has been markedly reduced from what I had on my last visit We had the Halibut;Calf Liver;Trout Being seated beside a sewer cover with the accompanying less than fragrant aroma simply added insult to injury"

  • "Part of the Oliver and Bonacini group, another successful venture well worth considering for those who appreciate great food with a French flair. As with most French cuisine, decent portions complimented by flavours that are very well-balanced are most appreciated by this sated couple of diners. We would not hesitate in re-visiting this establishment, especially while in the area to take in a show. Prices are in the $150 range for two including wine, taxes and tip. Definitely worth it!"

  • "Service was a bit inconsistent . The food was good. Prices were a bit on the higher side. Not a bad experience at all, but not raving about the place either."

  • "We sat on the patio underneath an awning...which served us well in the rain & would also be great on a sunny day. Service was really great and just the right amount of attentiveness, and saved what could have been a disappointing evening as both of my co-diners received meat (lamb shank and steak frites) undercooked to their liking or what they felt they had requested. Super quick, without any fuss, the meals were taken back to the chef and fresh ones prepared! Complimentary mushroom soup was provided, and my taste of it was delicious! I have to say that my liver was cooked perfectly to my liking (medium) and had a wonderful demi-glace sauce, melted in your mouth! some grilled asparagus and a grilled baby romaine (incredible flavour!)"

  • "This is the second time this has happened to me, waited over 50 minutes for the appetizer to come, then with a dinner show at 8pm, entrees showed up at 7.51...9 minutes to eat a steak dinner. The manager apologized by saying that the meal was covered to which I replied that it is not a financial matter, but a matter of terrible service. She left in a huff and left my wife and I going to the show with no dinner. While the food is very good (at least the app was) the service is terrible and they have NO TIME MANAGEMENT. I will NEVER go back to this restaurant."

  • "Came here primarily for the buck a shuck. Oysters were a bit small but taste was still great considering they were $1 each. We ended up getting the bone marrow and the frog legs. Both were good but the bone marrow was definately the star of the table. Service was quick and attentive. The patio was also clean and comfortable. Would recommend for a patio lunch or for the after 5 pm oysters."

  • "We recently dined at Biff's Bistro before a jazz show at St Lawrence Center For the Preforming Arts. It was a beautiful summer evening so we sat outside on the patio and enjoyed a very lovely dinner. We shared the hot smoked trout for an appetizer - lovely prepared with fennel slaw and pumpernickel croutons. A nice dish for a warm summer evening. Then we both had the Steak frits - beautifully prepared and when asked if we could substitute a salad for one of the frits there was no hesitation. Steaks were done to perfection and served with a generous order of frits and asparagus over a pea mint puree. Flavors were perfect nothing stronger than it should be and nothing overwhelming the other. Great wine list as well as exceptional service"

  • "Honestly, our server was one of the best servers I've ever had in my life! the food was amazing, we collectively ate 9 dozen oysters. Ate like kings and queens."

  • "The mushroom soup is delicious and should be for $10.00 a bowl. The steak tartar was a little over spiced and the frites a little too salty. Good restaurants usually either ask the level of spice one wants or prepares the Tartar table side. Not in this case. Nice and attentive service."

  • "My wife and I dined here on the recommendation from a local Waterloo Chef. We were not disappointed. Greeted immediately, and our server (Natalie.S.) was the most informative and attentive service we have ever received. Very friendly and knowledgeable about the menu as we had many questions. My wife had the Filet Mignon and I had the Halibut. Cooked perfectly and so delicious. We will recommend this to everyone and will be back. Thank you Chef and thank you Natalie. Outstanding!"

  • "We had a very good meal at Biff's but there was clearly a mix-up in the kitchen. Our food order did not arrive for 55 minutes. The server was very apologetic about it, particularly since we had flagged that we were in a bit of a rush because of a concert across the street. The service manager blamed it on a larger crowd than expected, but that's a pretty lame excuse for a restaurant across the street from the Sony Centre on a Saturday night. My guess is that they were short on kitchen staff for the evening - they clearly need to do better if they want to attract the theatre crowd. The table behind us left without getting their meal at al!, after an equivalent long wait."

  • "We recently celebrated our 24th anniversary. We love oysters and I love tar tar. The oysters (of the day) are $1 each after 5pm. Great deal and along with a pint of Leffe, great appetizer moment. We love the ambience on the terrace. We had a great time."

  • "Delicious oysters and appetizers. Steak Tatar had a bit too much capers in my opinion. Good service and nice great patio!"

  • "Was a great night, not overly vegetarian friendly - I didn't clock one of my gal pals is vegetarian. The crepe was fine, would have been nice had she had more choice. Table is too high for the bench - raise the benches! Very noisy but friendly happy chatter. Steak frites was yummy - one steak not cooked to order - fixed in a flash! Great customer service. Only three WC stalls for the ladies? Get real! Not nice having to stand in line - three in stalls and four in line!"

  • "After years of enjoying Biff's, imagine my disappointment when we took our son for a special dinner on Saturday night and had simply terrible service. Our waitress was rude, slow, inattentive, confused our orders - just a mess. We dine out a lot and tend to be very easygoing when it comes to little service glitches here and there, but two days later we were still shaking our heads at the experience. For the price of Biff's, one should expect excellent service - unfortunately this wasn't our experience. I should note that all the other staff who served us were great."

  • "My husband and I went for a pre-show dinner. The service was impeccable and the food was fantastic. Mushroom soup, Steak Frites and Albacore Tuna. We would go back. There are some unusual menu selections which I'm sure are excellent but we stayed in our comfort zone :) I do recommend."
