  • "Sad to say this place went down hill quickly. This place was something in the beginning but no longer. Terrible service. Mediocre food. Very disappointing."

  • "This is a great little place that makes you feel like you are in a European Inn. Right on the River Walk in San Antonio with a great wine list and fresh and outstanding food! The service and atmosphere is wonderful!"

  • "The staff is friendly, knowledgeable and awesome. The food is fantastic. It is the best food and experience we have ever had in san Antonio. We will most definitely be going back"

  • "Wonderful restaurant, great for special occasions. We had a romantic dinner at an outside table on the River walk. Excellent food and great service!"

  • "If you're looking for a true culinary experience, and want to avoid the chain restaurants and watery Mexican food that seems to be the staple on Riverwalk, this is the place you have been looking for. Food done with a passion, served in an intimate setting, where you are treated a guest, not just a customer. Bella is rather small so reservations are a very good idea."

  • "I would definitely recommend Bella on the River for anyone looking for a great spot to slow down and enjoy some tasty food. The menu was quite varied and the wait staff was happy to recommend food and wine that fit our tastes. Even letting us have samples of dinner and dessert wines to help us make our decision. The food itself was fantastic and the atmosphere of the place was great, it's quite small so I would suggest getting a reservation. There were varied table sizes so you could go as a couple or in a larger group. The bread, olive oil and garlic was fantastic!"

  • "Bella is a favorite of my wife and I. Small, intimate, great food and friendly competent service. Set on the Riverwalk, inside it's cozy interior and intimate bar are a great place to stop for anything from a glass of wine to a full meal. Whenever we're in San Antonio, we try to find time to stop in for dinner. My filet mignon was tender and perfectly cooked and my wife's dish was also delicious. We enjoyed the bibb lettuce salads, but decided to pass on desserts, even though they sounded great. Given its small size, reservations are strongly recommended, but they do try to accommodate walk-ins. My only regret is that its not located in Austin where we live!"

  • "patrick was our server he did a fantastic job,i got the red fish my wife got the duck beast.so both of them were just fine. and honestly we got 2 desserts but i don't remember the names. overall when you get inside bella restaurant,it's like you are in some old city restaurant in europe.but you are just in down town san antonio."

  • "We were lucky enough to hit Bella's while it was restaurant week and the options were amazing! The waiter was knowledgeable about the wine selection and recommended the perfect wine to go with both red fish and duck! Foods were perfectly cooked with wonderful and unique combinations of taste! The only draw back was that there wasn't a better view of the Riverwalk if you opt to eat inside with A/C. Overall, an exquisite dining experience and we will most definitely return when we visit San Antonio again!"

  • "We had a little trouble finding the place, but are so glad we did. Showed up 15 minutes late for our reservation, no problem.(and it was very busy, restaurant week) We were seated and greeted by our server and got our drinks pretty quickly. Be aware its beer and wine only. We started with the anti-pasta which was great! The cheeses and olives were superb. My wife loved her salad. My wife had the Halibut and I had the Diver Scallops. Both were very well presented. We both thoroughly enjoyed our meals, the fish and scallops were cooked perfectly. We ordered a Cotes Du Rhone that complemented our meal perfectly. The server was very busy, but never let us wait for anything. All in all we highly recommend Bella on the River."

  • "Away from the crowded, touristy parts of the Riverwalk, Bella on the river is a quiet, intimate gem of a restaurant. Seating maybe 50 people max, it offers superb food at reasonable prices. Most of the restaurants on the Riverwalk are overpriced, loud with bland food. This place is the exact opposite. David the owner will greet you when you arrive. The food, service, ambience are all world class. Reservations are a must."

  • "Bella is officially on my top 10 list of U.S. restaurants. Went to Bellla about two years ago and enjoyed an intimate atmosphere, exceptional service - from a waiter who actually enjoyed his job and was excited to talk about the menu and wine list. Returned to Bella on Friday night, and I was not disappointed. My friend and I received the same exceptional service (from the same waiter) and the quality has not wavered one bit. If you're looking for a special dinner, with outstanding service, atmosphere, and food, look no further. Some past menu favorites: scallops with watermelon salsa, and salmon with grape puree. Current menu favs: paella and pistachio cake. Highly recommend making a reservation."

  • "Easy reservation and confirmation with Open Table - we had filet and scallops - sides are extra, so order up front. Mussels were good. Desert was scrumptious. Small setting; friendly, informed service. Busy to full on a Tuesday evening; chatter can get pretty loud. Beer and wine; no cocktails. Although it overlooks the Riverwalk, not scenic - go for the food and service."

  • "Cozy little place with great food and European wine selection. A fig tree is jutting out of the wall - it doesn't get any more Mediterranean than this!"

  • "The Calimari appetizer was fantastic. The fried zucchini salad was excellent. The entrees my wife and I had were very good. We have eaten at many restaurants on the Riverwalk San Antonio, this is the best we've found. Limited seating, I would advise reservations."

  • "Eggplant Josephine, Bruschetta, the wine... All delicious. Service was sincere and outstanding. Seating is a bit tight and the din of conversation is a bit loud but the overall experience was exceptional. Has a great time. We'll be back."

  • "Very intimate, friendly restaurant on the River Walk - more like an small uptown neighborhood vibe than the other tourist oriented restaurants along the river. Nice wine selections, especially Captain's selections. Enjoyed a Super Tuscan and had excellent grilled redfish and tasty paella. We dine at many places in San Antonio and this is on our favorites list."

  • "We so enjoyed our evening at Bella's with host, David. Our server was Nathan and everything just so lovely. I have to mention that getting there, parking and walking was just horrific! Lines of rude and nasty people everywhere. The parking garage had ONE space left. The passenger side was against a concrete post. Just don't know if anyone want to go through all of that to get to Bella."

  • "The service and ambiance were wonderful. The tables are a little two close together. As for the food, the eggplant appetizer was fantastic and so was the pistachio cake. The entrees is where the food was lacking. My sister ordered the scallops for $28 and the only food on the plate was 4 scallops and a couple greens onions. Way overpriced for what you actual get. It should be listed under appetizers. I ordered the pasta Bella. It sounds better than it tastes. Its a bowl of spaghetti with tomato sauce and lobster thrown in. The tomato sauce overpowers the lobster. It didn't have much flavor at all for what I was expecting. Overall the dining experience was just ok due to the food. For the price we paid I would have expected better food."

  • "This was without a doubt one of my all time favorite dining experiences EVER! My husband and I love to travel and sometimes finding the really good one can be tricky. The person that recommeneded Bella's absolutely nailed it! It was our first night in San Antonio, the ambience cozy and romantic, the wine recommendation was perfect, recommendations for each course were wonderful, service was outstanding, we didnt feel rushed, nor did we feel ignored. It was the perfect balance of everything. My only regret was that no other restaurant came close our entire trip!! And we went to another restaurant that someone refered to as the best place to get a steak in San Antonio. It shall remain nameless and it was no Bellas! Can't say enough!!"

  • "Absolutely love Bella. Always top-notch in every category!!!!"

  • "Although this restaurant was close to the "touristy" part of the Riverwalk, the indoor ambiance felt anything but touristy. Seating was close yet intimate. Waitstaff was exceptionally attentive and eager to explain dishes and make recommendations. The Frito Misto (fried calamari with artichoke quarters) provided an interesting and delicious alternative to the typical calamari appetizer offering. Based upon other reviewer's comments, my husband chose the pork tenderloin main course and it met all his expectations regarding tenderness and flavor. I chose that evening's Salmon special. My entree was so feather-light and moist that I barely had to chew it. We enjoyed a friendly visit with the owner and definitely plan on returning."

  • "Bella's was great! Great service! A little disappointed in how close together the tables were. The restuarant was unique and romantic but a little cramped. The food was awesome, but a little pricey."

  • "I can't stop talking about this restaurant! It doesn't look like much on the outside, but I LOVED the inside! It is so cute & quaint. I estimate it doesn't seat more than 50 people. It's very cozy. The owner, David, greets you at the top of the stairs. He makes an effort to talk to you. We went there for our anniversary. David was courtesious & congratulated us. The waiters are very knowledgeable about the wine & which one pairs well with your food. Our waiter was extremely helpful & knew when to suggest certain things. We were the right amount of full. The mussels are a MUST. The t-bone lamb was amazing! Everything I got was light and not heavy with cream sauce. This is a must go-to place. Definitely will go back again & recommend to all."

  • "This hidden gem is sure to exceed all your expectations from the moment you arrive. The very talented Chef offers a seasonal menu that includes the most amazing selections of appetizers, salads, entrées, and desserts. The food is not the only thing that will make this dining experience special; the wine list is another area you will enjoy exploring. Everyone at Bella is obviously very proud of their restaurant and proudly demonstrates that in every detail. I have no doubt that after one dining experience that you and your guest(s) will have Bella On The River at the top of your favorite restaurants on the San Antonio Riverwalk."

  • "everything about the restaurant ws wonderful. The ambience of an old cellar really works and is very romantic with the low level lighting and the candlelight.. The food was amazing and the service extrememly competent. The only negative is that all of the tables are crammed together so having any privacy is non existent. The tables are small and the chairs not very comfortable."

  • "Very romantic. Reasonably priced. Specials - though the waitstaff does not quote the price - are in-line with the menu prices and my special (veal short ribs and pork belly) was amazing. Wine list is not extensive but runs the gamut of regions/variety, and again is reasonably priced. Small sized restaurant so make sure to make reservations. Great find along the Riverwalk."

  • "The setting is gorgeous. You feel like you're in a wine cellar. The owner and staff are very welcoming and accessible. The bruschetta appetizer was EXCELLENT. The halibut was good. I was a little disappointed with the scallops. Only serve three. Seems skimpy for the price. We had the halibut but the side vegetable didn't get served until after my wife was finished with her fish. I wouldn't have expected that of a restaurant of this quality."

  • "We've been to Bella's a couple of times now and everytime we go it is a great experience. Small restaurant with great wait staff and hugly amazing food. The chef definately knows what he's doing in the kitchen. Not a place to take a large group however, because the dining area a very small and cramped. However, if you want to take that special someone out for an amazing meal, I would highly recommend Bella's on the River!!"

  • "This place had some outstanding reviews so I chose this spot as 1 of my dinners to take my girlfriend on our anniversary and the day of my reservation the owner called me paersonally to confirm, so I was looking forward to seeing what it was about. Upon arrival I knew this wasn't going to be good for me the place is so crowded that I couldn't hear my girlfriend talk. Then the service was horrible it took 30 min to even get my first appetizer, then when I decided this place wasn't for me I asked for my check and received a snobby attitude from my waiter , Then he tried putting a glass of wine on my bill that I never received they corrected it. In the end I found another restaurant to celebrate my anniversary."

  • "The fried green tomatoes were excellent as were the entrees and desserts. The service was a little spotty for such a nice restaurant. Our drinks were slow to be refilled, but the waiter's description of food items and recommendations were spot on."
