A word from Beauty and Essex
From the team behind The Stanton Social comes Beauty & Essex, a grand 10,000 square foot restaurant, bar, & lounge in the heart of the lower east side.

The atmosphere of the space is both grand and intimate, moody and effervescent. Various rooms for lounging and dining unfold on two floors, like a large turn-of-the-century townhouse. Each room has its own unique elements that celebrate timeless jewelry designs and upscale jewelry stores.

The cuisine is multi-ethnic in inspiration, casually elegant, and designed for sharing at the table among friends and family. Where the Stanton Social"s menu is Chef Chris Santos' take on cocktail party classics and street foods from across the globe, Beauty & Essex is rooted in a bold bistro direction focusing on the reinvention of modern family style dining that is both whimsical and sophisticated.

Diner Reviews
  • "The ambiance was only matched in the taste of the food. Service could have been more attentive but overall this is a must do on the list in my opinion. Chris santos had out done himself again"

  • "I love this place. It's sassy, Sexy and the food is good. I am a Chopped fan and was very curious about the resturant because Chris Santos is the hardest judge on Chopped. This resturant atmosphere, to the food to the bathroom was a wonderful expirence. I am from Ohio and visit New York twice a year. I will be at Beauty & Essex twice a year! "

  • "I have been to Beauty & Essex quite a few times now for brunch and dinner and I have always had a great experience. Food is always top-notch and the servers I've had have all been very friendly and warm. I would highly recommend it for a special event or just a nice dinner with a group of friends. "

  • "To be running almost an hour behind in reservations and nowhere to sit or barely stand in the crowded bar, this got the evening off to a really bad start. And then they just ran out of your favorite thing on the menu. Our table was right next to the packed bar scene so we could barely talk. I hear this happens regularly, so I think they need to fix their reservation system so people aren't keep waiting that long. I don't care how good the food is if you can't honor reservations. Shame, because the food is really great and the main dining room is a nice space."

  • "Its was a very Nice restaurant. Great ambiance and very beautiful décor. But the food was very basic and i didnt enjoy my meal."

  • "Why are all the recommendation options positive responces when that couldnt possibly be everyones experience? It was my first time dining at Beauty and Essex and my last. The food was excellent, im sure everyone that dines there has a great food experience but unfortunately the service lets this "hot spot" down. We were rushed off our table after being handed the check with our desert and while we all had full drinks, huge no no. If it was busy i might be more understanding but we were one of three tables at 9.45. The music where people were eating and talking was blaring. The bottom line is you can get twice the food and the service for a quarter of the price in tons of places in that neighborhood. Just not worth it. Overall; 6/10."

  • "Went here for my wife's birthday because we heard very good things, and we were not disappointed. Food and service were very good, as was the bar scene. Would definitely recommend to anyone looking for a fun night out with good food and good drinks on the LES."

  • "We went here to celebrate my sister's 32nd birthday. We had a fabulous time and loved everything about the place, service and the food. We just told the server to bring us out a sampling of amazing dishes and she did just that. The lemon/blackberry pancakes were amazing! The little cuban sandwiches were to die for. We also had the grilled cheese, smoked bacon and tomato soup dumplings...suffice it to say we were blown away. This place is fantastic and I would highly recommend it to friends and family."

  • "I came here for a birthday dinner with a group of friends. We waited by the front bar for our table which was not over crowed and great atmosphere. The place is gorgeous and the food is delicious. The food is best for sharing, tapas style and it's great for large groups. The ambiance was romantic, fun and when we went upstairs for the bar/lounge is was just as pretty but kind of overcrowded. At first the music was great but then it was terrible old hip hop and it wasn't even the type that would be fun to dance to. We got lucky and found an empty seat, we got our drinks and had a fun time talking but I would've loved to dance if the music had been better. Overall definitely a place to check out."

  • "This restaurant was recommended to us by one of the couples in our group of 6. We were greeted promptly, our coats taken and we were seated quickly. The server asked if we had been there before and explained the tapas menu and how much we should order based on the number of people at the table, which was very helpful. She might have recommended a couple of the signature cocktails but the ones we did choose were very unique and tasty. The chef sent out a sample appetizer which was delicious. The remainder of the food arrived at a good pace for the table. We particularly enjoyed the steak tartar, the avocado, lemon and espelette and the grilled cheese dumplings. The presentation was excellent; flavours unique. We would go back!"

  • "Loved Beauty and Essex. Its such a surprise when you walk through the pawn shop into the bar, which was packed with fun-loving good looking people. The DJ was great the night we were there...I kept wanting to dance! Lots of groups of women (bachelorette parties??) and a lot of couples too. The food was great. Ordered 5 items and it was the perfect amount. The chicken meatballs were sensational, and order them with the parsnips! A surprising but delicious combination. Such a fun place, that doesn't rely on its hipness, but actually serves great food. Will go back!"

  • "My friend had only great things to say about it, very cool space, excellent cocktails, but the food was MEH, i think this is a better place to come late at night, go to dinner elsewhere (ANYWHERE but here) and then come here for cocktails and dessert (not that i had dessert) i heard they serve champagne in the ladies room, but the ladies room was CLOSED! total bummer. but walking through the pawn shop to get the restaurant is very cool. so impress your out o town friends with this place! Then go to the Backroom for another cool experience!"

  • "I booked my reservation several weeks in advance and we were 45 minutes late for our reservation (so color me a little worried). The hostess said they probably would need the table by 8pm which would give us only an hour to eat. We sat in the locket room (upstairs near the lounge area). The free champagne in the women's bathroom was fun and the rows of vintage perfume gave a very swanky ambiance. Two of my friends ordered the ribs which were AMAZING. Also ordered the octopus salad, the burger and the lobster & squid ink pasta. Everything was delicious. The waitress did not rush us as I anticipated though we left at 8:25 (likely from our large bill + $80 bottle of wine :p). Too pricey for every day but I recommend for those special occasions"

  • "We had an 8:30pm reservation and were seated at 10pm with no explanation. The manager came over to apologize, and told us he had ordered us some appetizers as we had been waiting so long. The food was delicious, and our server was great, but we were not happy to receive the bill and see we had been charged for the appetizers ordered by the manager."

  • "Fun place for girls night or large group. Not great for romantic dinner for 2. While the food was good I felt it wasn't worth all the hype its been getting..They must have good PR. The box of donuts is a must!"

  • "We had a table of 6 on a Saturday night and really enjoyed the evening. This isn't the place for a quiet evening out, there is a definite high energy vibe and related buzz. The small plates menu was interesting and varied, but the real treat was the flawless service. At the start, the six of us ordered about a dozen different plates to share. Over the next hour of so, they came out 2 or 3 at a time from differnet members of the service team with our primary server checking in frequently and handling drinks and wine. Really couldn't have asked for a better evening."

  • "We went there for brunch and had a blast. The food is meant to be shared which is great - you can a little pancake, scone, egg, veggie, etc. Just a perfect taste of everything. They have magical bacon that was great. The servers were so attentive, that at times it almost felt like they were trying to clear plates too quickly!"

  • "We were looking very forward to dining at this restaurant. But when the bus staff keeps removing platters the minute the last piece of food is removed, it's disturbing. what's more disturbing is combining different foots to consolidate platters and remove them even quicker! What's the rush guys? The second floor was half empty! I would really need to be enticed to return because of the rude and unprofessional rushing and removing of plates from the table.. FYI, you can't put fish items on non fish platters... People have allergies.. Guys... Slow down and let us know the outstanding food the chef has prepared."

  • "A soaring space that looks like a storefront from the outside rather than a huge eatery. Formerly an old furniture store, it is a loud, rocking place with a fun vibe and an amazing skylight on the very high ceiling. Great small plates, very creative and diverse. Excellent service. Worthwhile!"

  • "A group of girlfriends had brunch at B&E last weekend. All of the food was delicious: Lox Board, Mac & Cheese, Pancakes.. the only so-so dish were lobster rolls or tacos or something ... pass on that! Also, the Bloody Mary isn't awesome, stick with a Mimosa :)"

  • "I wanted to try this place as it boasts a vibrant scene. The pawn shop entrance is very cool and there are some interesting pieces stocked there. However, the food was a bunch of hor dourves, I felt the menu wasn't as varied in flavour as I hoped it would be. No dish is particularly memorable. The music was decent though could have been better. The service is acceptable, though the waitress seemed to be clueless with any recommendations. The decor was interesting and finished to a high standard, thereby demonstrating B&E as the archetype style over substance. Secret restaurants really can be amazing in all areas such as Freemans, someone should tell B&E this. Last point: Well overpriced!"

  • "We were really disappointed with the waiters as she did not explain that as she bring a portion for each, we will double tge price on each meals! She also advise to choose 2 meals per person which is way too much!! As a results we paid $100 per person without counting wines and they double the quantity of the orders for thinfs we did not want to all taste. Avoid fried oysters and spagitini!! The tomatoes dumpling were the best"

  • "From the interesting entrance to the champagne in the bathroom, Beauty and Essex delivered a great night! Our waitress suggested a few items on the menu and we ordered them all and they were delicious! We enjoyed every aspect of the meal and would absolutely go back and/or recommend it to friends."

  • "Our work group of 6 were served promptly and courteously by very knowledgeable Princess Leia look-alike, the wines (especially Nobile Montepulciano) were a hit, the drinks at bar before hand served graciously by skilled mixologists. The food was delicious, the group style approach worked well, the oysters in particular were very fresh and tasty, but all the many items tried were pleasing."

  • "Front entrance is a pawn shop then u proceed thru a secret door to the restaurant/bar. Though I had reservation at 9:15pm and we came at 835, they had us wait in the bar probably so we can buy drinks. Yep two drinks at bar was $28. We ordered three tapas style dishes. Ny Pretzel dish was not good, crab cake not good either, teriyaki beef was good. Ordered my second thru my waitress which was $1 cheaper than at the bar, strange how its calculated. Then after dinner we headed upstairs to the lounge, very nice decor with nice lounge chairs and area. The DJ played awesome 90s music that's heard throughout the entire place"
