A word from Beauty and Essex
From the team behind The Stanton Social comes Beauty & Essex, a grand 10,000 square foot restaurant, bar, & lounge in the heart of the lower east side.

The atmosphere of the space is both grand and intimate, moody and effervescent. Various rooms for lounging and dining unfold on two floors, like a large turn-of-the-century townhouse. Each room has its own unique elements that celebrate timeless jewelry designs and upscale jewelry stores.

The cuisine is multi-ethnic in inspiration, casually elegant, and designed for sharing at the table among friends and family. Where the Stanton Social"s menu is Chef Chris Santos' take on cocktail party classics and street foods from across the globe, Beauty & Essex is rooted in a bold bistro direction focusing on the reinvention of modern family style dining that is both whimsical and sophisticated.

Diner Reviews
  • "My boyfriend and I LOVE, Love, LOVE this place : ) Form the secret locale behind the Pawn shop facade, to the cool n swanky decor that is reminiscent of a "speak-easy" it is an awesome experience. However, given that the FOOD is SO AMAZING and TOP NOTCH and it is a hot spot where lots of people go to be seen - the noise level is quite "energetic" ; ) A MUST for the FOOD and uniqueness of it all : )"

  • "B & E is a nice and trendy place well located, with outsanding food. Surely would recommend."

  • "Food was impeccable, hands down. Getting to the food was a funnel of appropriately dressed patrons mixed with t shirt and shorts .. Why have a dresses code of no ripped jeans if you are going to allow such dress. To me, it makes no sense."

  • "The restaurant looks awful from the outside then you walk through a pawn shop into a buzzy, slightly chaotic, glitzy restaurant. Food is great and they have a gluten free menu. Only complaint was the loud, club style music which doesn't work for me whilst dining."

  • "Must get the grilled cheese, bacon dumplings and the apple & kale salad. The box of doughnuts for dessert was also a winner over the s'mores tart. Reservations don't mean a lot here (you should be on time, but you are going to wait). We waited about 30 min after our reservation on a Wednesday night for a table and when we got there the lobby area was filled with people waiting. Not sure about the backlog. I have been here for an earlier reservation (6:30-7) and I think I preferred that time over the 8:30. All in all - great place. it adds up quickly $$$! Make sure you get your free champagne in the ladies room!"

  • "We were recommend this restaurant from a Texan lady on our tour and it was the best restaurant find of NY. We have since recommended this gem to others."

  • "This is a trendy restaurant with some really great food. If you are looking for a "scene," this is the place. If you are looking for some interesting food and people watching, Beaty and Essex fits the bill. We had a party of 3 and we all really enjoyed our meal. The server did a great job helping us navigate the menu and the food came out at appropriate times with our drinks always filled. I would highly reccomend."

  • "The place is designed to impress, and it accomplishes that end with solid service, excellent décor and good food. A little NYC gem hidden in the LES."

  • "We went all the way downtown to try B & E because there aren't many great restaurants for brunch, but we wouldn't go back because it it was o.k. but not great. The restaurant is nice, ambiance, moderate, the music was too loud and the place was freezing when we came in but many people complained, so they did turn down the AC. The service was excellent, the waitress was very pleasant. The food was adequate but not exceptional; the dessert menu was not tempting. I would not recommend it unless every other restaurant was already booked. The couple sitting next to us, who were from England, left when they saw the menu, not a great brunch menu. There were a lot of tourists - they must promote on tourist sites. New Yorkers know better."

  • "People have been telling me to go to Beauty & Essex, but for some reason, the concept seemed very contrived. A pawn shop in the front? That sounded very strange. Well, it works! The delicious food is the real reason to go, but the ambiance is really fun, too. Now I'm sorry that I waited so long to go! But I'll definitely be back."

  • "Came here for dinner for a bachelorette party. Had a reservation for 7:15 for 6, but ended up having a last minute addition and few late-comers. They were very accommodating especially for a Saturday night. We ended up not eating until closer to 9, but luckily we got seats at the bar so we didn't mind the wait (especially since it was our own fault). Would definitely recommend for a girls night out."

  • "good food, service was a little slow, got very loud after around 8pm. waiter was knowledgeable, but busboys were a bit rude. one dropped a cupcake and never replaced it."

  • "This place is not for everyone - no place is. That being said, and not knowing much about this place other than it popping up as one of 2 top spots for 'Romantic Dinner Lower East Side' it was a blast from start to finish. Walking in through the 'Pawn Shop' and then through a door that made it feel like a Speakeasy (or Eyes Wide Shut...) was quite a shock. The waiter made many fantastic recommendations - although the drinks were odd, and the corn ice cream so-so, they were completely overshadowed by the flavor explosions the Chicken Meatballs, tomato-soup with grilled cheese, Maker's Mark Shots, Bone Marrow platter, and even the Kale Salad were. Meatballs. MEATBALLS! Amazing - we'll be back to try other items, for sure."

  • "The food was excellent, the service impeccable. We had an 11 o'clock reservation and we were the only ones there over the age of 35. Full of "girls night out" groups."

  • "You're looking for. Very cool entrance with a pawn shop feel and then the door opens and bam! I wanted to have a dinner with my 22 year old son and it was a bit loud for conversation. But if you want to feel cool And happening- this is it!"

  • "Not much really to say, other than you will not be disappointed. The food was amazing and every course was better than the last. The staff were incredibly helpful, from dead-on recommendations for food (type as well as quantity), to their knowledge of the impressive drink menu. All combined for a fantastic night out. The speakeasy feel of the entrance and over the top glamour of the main foyer of the restaurant really make you feel like you've found some hidden gem."

  • "I have not been to beuty on Essex In 3 years, at that time it was full well dress atractive people , great food and service, Sunday was not the same people dressed like they were going to beach , service was very poor, as the waiter said to me When ask for more sauce , it wall be 2 bucks , it's lost what made it a great place."

  • "This place measures up on all counts! Our best NYC meal of the trip. Carlos the server made all the recommendations and he was batting 100%. A great night."

  • "My wife and I LOOOOOVE Beauty and Essex. I travel to the NY area frequently for work and bring my wife with me whenever I can, and since we discovered the brunch at B&E we have been back every single time she has come up here. Between our three visits so far we have ordered at least a half dozen different menu items and as many different cocktails, and were not disappointed by any of them (the red velvet waffles are our perennial favorite). The atmosphere is upscale and chic and the service is always excellent. It's very easy to get carried away and spend a lot of money, but only because everything is so good! Can't wait to come back!"

  • "For appetizers we had the grilled cheese and empanadas, and for dinner we had the spaghettini and brick chicken and broccolini as a side. All of it very good. I highly recommend the chicken and the sauce for the broccolini was Asian flavors done very simple but delicious. They also were super accommodating for my wife, who is vegetarian, and had no problem serving 3 of the 6 grilled cheeses without bacon. For dessert we shared the s'mores tart with some cappuccino/macchiato and it a perfect balance of sweet and salty. Overall the experience lived up to the hype! We are fortunate to come on a night when the place wasn't super busy which worked well for us."

  • "Love the food love the service. Only thing I didn't like was that the tables were pretty close to each other and the music is loud. Therefore if you are talking to the person sitting across from you you need to talk loudly and have the tables on either side of you hear your conversation."

  • "Everything about this place is amazing. The front is nondescript, then you walk through the door and you enter this amazing experience. HIGHLY recommend to all!"

  • "Had to ask our waiter 3 times for our after dinner drinks. He kept forgetting. In the end he was apologetic but there were 7 of us. How do you forget 7 drinks 3 times. .?"

  • "Our daughter recommended your restaurant a year ago. We are from out of town and I finally was able to secure reservations. Dinner was incredibly delicious...loved the tapas style. Our waitress was knowledgeable about the menu and what would complement our meal as a last course. Cannot wait to go back again!!!!! Don't be dismayed by the pawn shop exterior....the gem is hidden within. Try the onion rings, eggplant,....actually try everything!"

  • "Service was all around nasty. So was the crowd. Rude all around. So sorry because the food is amazing! I guess the chef doesn't have to deal with the staff or patronage."

  • "B&E provides a memorably great experience for all your senses. Novel entrance through a pawn shop, attractive, open decor, free pink champagne in the ladies room and a shared type of tapas menu that was consistently delicious from appetizers ending in milk shake shots for the whole table. It is not inexpensive, but well worth it. We had a group of six and all of us thoroughly enjoyed a fun, delectable evening."

  • "Came here with a party of 4 on a Sunday night. Had to wait until our entire party arrived to be seated. Our waitress was very friendly, but we had a difficult time getting her to come to us - we had to flag her down each time we needed another drink. My friends were very irritated by this fact. The ambiance and food was delicious as it was the other times. The drinks we ordered were delicious, but I would have ordered more if I could. The difference being we all ordered desserts this time - the butterscotch pot was absolutely divine. Despite the service, I will continue to recommend this place."

  • "This is always my go to spot for the beginning of a fun night out on the town. The ambiance is extremely classy and fun. The only negative thing I ever have to mention is the extra wait time even when you have reservations."
