A word from Barrel House
Barrel House offers a unique farm to table experience in downtown Sausalito which celebrates local seasonal ingredients and sustainability in a beautiful setting.

Barrel House focuses on letting the ingredients shine. To this end, Barrel House supports local farmers and organic practices due to their amazing quality as well as being harvested at their peak of ripeness.

Barrel House will feature barrel aged and classic cocktails. Its wine menu highlights west coast winemakers. Barrel House will have rotating local micro brews on tap as well as wines on tap. Additionally, we will be hand crafting our own sodas with ingredients that we source at the local farmers markets.

Barrel House features furniture and woodwork that was handcrafted using reclaimed black walnut and curly maple trees. Every seat in the Barrel House has sweeping views of the Bay and an outdoor deck that sits right over the water.

Diner Reviews
  • "We ate here just about a year ago. The food was great! The portions were small, the taste wonderful. This past weekend we went back, thinking small portions, high quality food. Well, the portions are now huge! The bad: The pork chop that was too thick. This meant longer time cooking = dry and tough. Still tasted good. The halibut had a diced red peppers that overpowered the flavor of the fish. The good: The mussels are wonderful. The sauce was very good. The risotto was also great. We had it last time and it met our expectations. Dessert, was great (a chocolate bread/cake/pudding/brownie with icecream...) but one was enough to feed four!"

  • "The appetizers and ambience were great, but my chicken dish was overcooked and not very flavorful."

  • "This restaurant needs to decide on a vision. It is totally missing the mark! Restaurant? Bar? Upscale? Casual? Tourists? Locals? Families? Adults? The only thing it has going for it is the view. Food wasn't bad, but it also wasn't hot and the menu is really limited...Nice California Cuisine but served on clunky pottery dishes...the entire experience was weird, right down to our server. Hostess Station is formal, but wait staff too casual. Service was slow....and they weren't even that crowded. Can't imagine how they will survive when the tourists really arrive this summer. The only thing going for this place is the incredible view. Count me out--I won't go back!"

  • "This wonderful spot in Sausalito gave us everything we were looking for. Locally sourced ingredients, great service, and a wonderful view of San Francisco and the bay bridge. A small menu with fresh and exciting choices made it difficult for us to pick; so we tried a little of everything. Mushroom salad, goat cheese fritters, swordfish, and risotto; all incredibly fresh and delicious. And I'd be remiss to not mention the superb cocktails and wine. Barrel house gets my highest recommendation for a foodie's night on the town."

  • "I read about the restaurant in Coastal Living Magazine and made a reservation for the day we would be in the area. Both my husband and I were very unhappy with the experience. When we arrived there were two tables near a window that wasn't obstructed by the people on the deck. We asked to be seated at one of them but were told they were for someone else. One of the tables was still empty when we finished our meal and was not filled until we were leaving. For quality of service, menu selection and view there are several other restaurants (which we have tried) that far surpass the Barrel House."

  • "First of all the room is spectacular. And the view. We were there for brunch/lunch on a Sunday and the menu was really more of a dinner menu. The server told us they're keeping it simple for the kitchen for now. How hard could it be to learn two menus? I will say, however, that it might be a good call. The kitchen was quite slow and one item lagged by 5 minutes. The server was great, and the food was great when it turned up, but there is clearly something broken in the kitchen. The menu has entrees that are just too heavy for lunch. We ordered small plates and salads and everything was interesting and tasty."

  • "The web site said brunch but when we arrived at 12:45 on a Sunday it was definitely the regular lunch menu. We changed gears and dove into a great selection of foods. The Thai mussels were lovely, and the risotto was delicious. It had a rim of foam that can be alittle off putting....did the dish soap get left in the dish? But my friend loved every bite. Lots of different seating options."

  • "Great food, service, and a fab view. The menu is small, but very interesting, lot's of new stuff to try."

  • "Would have been a great experience except that we went there expecting brunch. However, 2 days prior they had changed their menu and brunch was no longer available. Their website had indication that all they had was their regular menu. The food was quite good but if you go somewhere anticipating brunch and are presented with a regular menu then you are bound to be disappointed. Actually, one of the tables got up and left after they looked at the menu."

  • "This place is absolutely amazing. The view is ridiculous. I've been to a few ocean view places in Sausalito, but this place is by far the best one I'be been to. It's great for just drinks and apps with friends but also great for a date night. AMAZING!!!"

  • "We've been to Barrel House 4 or 5 times and it's always been excellent. Incredible view across San Francisco Bay to the San Francisco city skyline, great innovative food, good bar with creative drinks, fun vibe in busy Sausalito. Highly recommended."

  • "I love this place. The food is very very good, not quite Michelin star foo-foo level quality but easy to love--much better than Spinnaker and Scoma's. Great view, fine service, I don't have any complaints at all. Great addition to the Sausalito options."

  • "This was my first time for lunch at Barrell House and the food was equally good as for dinner. But it seems they were running out of a lot of things on the menu and lunch menu is not that large to start with. The server came back telling us they don't have polenta anymore and this was about 15 minutes after we already ordered meatballs. She also came back without being prepared to offer us any suggestions on substitutions. In general, I feel that service at Barrell House from the beginning has not matched the quality of the food. Most of the servers are nice, but seemed to lack experience, so I think this is something Barrell House should work on. Also, I was not happy about how maître'd handled our reservation."

  • "Terrific food, service was casual but professional. We will be back again for sure. Wine list was too expensive (a pet peeve), but wine by the glass was priced well. Our Pea Risotto and Frisee and Mushroom salad were amazing."

  • "Food was excellent: swordfish and Thai curry mussels. It's a big, high energy place with a lively bar scene---just barely within an OK range for being able to talk without shouting."

  • "This was our second time at Barrel House. Our party of five sat near the open doors w/ an over- the- top view of Angel Island on a perfectly clear night. Exquisite! The food was amazing, but the quite over-stretched service person was late bringing drinks, the coffees were barely warm, and food was just slightly warmer. Unfortunately, there was an extremely large and VERY loud party of revelers that made it very hard for us to hear each other. I would definitely go back, but only on a weeknight, and early, to avoid noise and overworked staff. The creme brulee was to die for, as were the swordfish, pork chop and petrale sole. I may live to see another birthday, which was the reason for our visit!"

  • "Barrel House dining gives diners a spectacular view of the bay. The prior restaurant here did not have good food, but Barrel House has vastly improved the cuisine. We were impressed. Our waitress was very congenial, but service here tends to be a little slow. You can't be in a hurry if dining here. We didn't have the same experience with a hostess. One of the two was quite rude and snapped when we responded to her question of whether we wanted to wait for other guests or be seated. We responded that we wanted to be seated. She apparently thought that I was too abrupt with my answer. I don't know if this is a training issue or just an unhappy employee, but she seemed unhappy throughout the night."

  • "I had the ribs, which were OK, but I probably wouldn't get them again. The create your own soda was interesting and pretty good. My date had the Crab Sliders, she liked them. The rest of the menu didn't appeal to me, but I'll admit, my tastes are a bit on the picky side. It's a cool spot, great view, and the food was decent enough. I probably won't return, but don't let that sway you, it's certainly worth a shot."

  • "Cannot recommend. I left feeling gouged. Not a single bottle of wine on the list for less that $50. (You could buy a half bottle for $50). Food mediocre and expensive. Service disappointing. Beautiful interior and beautiful views. Won't be back."

  • "We had been wanting to try the Barrel House since it opened. Especially since they were advertising Barrel aged cocktails & Marin is lacking in a truly great craft cocktail bar. We found that the starters & hour d'ivoire's were really quite good & would go back & order strictly from that area on the menu. While our mains were good they were a bit overly fussy in comparison to the more balanced flavors & presentations on our starters. We found the barrel aged cocktails a bit disappointing, not enough dilution & very burn forward on the Manhatten, the Jet Pilot overly heavy with Pernod & cloying, O.k. But not great. Service was great. Just the right amount of attentive & were on it when a knife was needed. Would give it another go."

  • "The restaurant was fairly full - although staff was smiling and friendly - starters were slow to be cleared - food was just OK - but wow - and you believe only a coupe of bottles of wine at $40 plus and everything else higher than that and even in to the low $100's - what are they thinking??? This is not a high end restaurant."

  • "Was looking for recommendation for restaurant in Sausalito for my foodie friend from DC. This was recommended by a local, and wow, it was great! First, the view was fabulous (but I let him sit on that side of table). Waitress Rachelle was excellent, personable, and present, but not noticeable. His swordfish and pork belly was great. My pork chop was delicious. Oysters on half shell great, followed by oysters Alcatraz which were cooked. Normally, I don't like cooked oysters, but these were pretty good. We sat in the bar before dinner, and my friend had the Black Mamba cocktail which was really interesting. He loved trying such a new and different cocktail. I would definitely come back to this restaurant. Great time!"

  • "We received special attention from our waitress and perhaps her supervisor who checked to see if everything went well. We could not have been more pleased. The server seemed a bit confused about when we could eat, if gluten intolerant, but we managed to leave far too well fed! Thank you, we'll be back. It was lovely."

  • "We had a wonderful experience at Barrel House...the food and ambiance was great. We had driven through pouring rain to get there, and wet and cold, we sat down to the best service, great drinks and great food! We enjoyed the interesting farm to table offerings. The drinks also were unique and tasty. Will come again, and highly recommend."

  • "We recently moved to Marin County and enjoyed our first visit to Barrel House. The view of the bay is stunning. The food was very tasty and just different enough to make it even more enjoyable. We ordered raw oysters, crab sliders, sunchoke soup, pork chops and mussels. The two disappointments: they were already sold out of the sole (fish) even though it was only 7:15 pm and the service. While the food came out in a timely manner, we had to flag our server down several times as she rarely checked back with us. She was very nice though. Being Sausalito, parking is also challenging. That being said, we'll come again."

  • "I have dined at this restaurant before and had great service, however the service level decreases when your party is over 2 people. The salad we ordered never came. I had to stop the wait staff numerous times for another drink. My father found a hair in his salmon, but they did offer to replace it and he took that one to go since everyone else had finished eating. It's such a nice space and has awesome potential, just hire more experienced staff and you'll have a winner. The entrees are good, but the appetizers are not."

  • "Wonderful surprise, best in Sausalito. Hard to find a good restaurant in Southern Marin, will definitely go back. Phenomenal view, decor/interior design beautiful and food is good. Large bar with lounge, outdoor seating is limited but good for beer/apps. Almost feels like you're in an SF restaurant minus all the headache."

  • "The last time we went to the Barrel house was six months ago. It has gone from great to not worth returning. The service at the bar(Eddie) was atrocious, I stood for 10 minutes at an empty bar with two bartenders and watched him give free drinks to a friend, complain about management and other than the free drink do nothing before noticing me I know I am hard to see (I am 6'4/ 230) "Can I get you anything?" Now I didn't want a drink I needed one. The service in the dining room was not much better our server was friendly when we saw her... and the food has fallen way off. It is a beautiful restaurant that has fallen into the tourist zone/ great view, bad service, food good enough to get by as a local we will not be returning."

  • "Barrel House is not finding its footing. I'm guessing they are going through one chef after another. The latest menu sounds sort of OK but when you get the food it really doesn't work. Steak tartare with crab and mustard ice cream? If the meat wasn't refrigerator cold and had more flavor it might have been OK. Ice cream? Just didn't help. overall. Not worth the time and space. The mussels with yellow curry could have been OK but just didn't make it. Too may vegetables on top. This chef just isn't making it yet and it is a shame because the view is fantastic, good cocktails, and my server was sweet and helpful. Since I live here, I could walk to this place and would if the food was better. At this point I don't think I will come back."

  • "The restaurant looks realy great but the food is fair, we had mussels but we had to return it because some of them were bad, then we asked for bread and it took our hostess a while she brought us flat bread she said that's the only bread they make but we did got a piece of toasted bread with our mussels. the appetizer looked good but rather tasteless, In overall it wasn't our favorite restaurent we're probably not going to try it again because this was my second time!. To me I feel that they need to evaluate their cooking skills and management!!"

  • "This was our first visit to Barrel House. We were four in our party. The food and bar service was quick and friendly. Three of the four of us were a bit disappointed in the main courses - two had the sole, one the cod. The fourth had the swordfish/pork belly dish which was superb."

  • "We went to the Barrel House for my wife's Birthday. We had been given a gift card so it was an easy choice. The first thing I noticed was it was quiet, although it was on a weeknight, but the acoustics handled the ambient noise well even as the place filled up. All the food entree's we had were very good. Portions were large for what we ordered [pork chop & rib eye] and substituted brussel sprouts for french fries, the sprouts were done perfectly, as was the acorn squash that came with the pork chop. The arugula-pear salad was also notably good. The Smith-Hook cab by the glass was very good and they do a generous pour which is nice. We had the creme brulee which was top notch. It was a lot of food, the pork chop is over 2 inches thick!"
