Barbaccoa great restaurant in theatera great restaurant in theater square.....always good food. mexican with a unique flair, very authentic. we've eaten there many times and it is consistently wonderful.6/14/2013 12:00:00 AMAccidentMy first time eating at this restaurant. The waitress was gathering the left over to be boxed however, the plate slipped and crashed to the floor by accident which frightened me a bit.
I believe, as customers we should of been compensated for the inconveniece.6/14/2013 12:00:00 AMThe food is excellent (theThe food is excellent (the brussel sprouts are to die for!), but the communal tables are NOT for everyone.6/10/2013 12:00:00 AMOutstanding serviceThe wait staff was knowledgable, friendly, attentive and very helpful. The food was delicious, although the tuna appetizer was a bit small.6/10/2013 12:00:00 AMThe special menu was a tributeThe special menu was a tribute to Lazio. We only ordered from this menu and were not let down. Our favourite was the tripe in tomato. It was really tender and light. Mozzarella and anchovy sandwich tasty. Spaghetti carbonara was good. So far have never been disappointed when we dine here.6/8/2013 12:00:00 AMBarbacco--Italian small heaven!Excellent small plates! Fantastic combinations. Best lasagna dish I have ever tasted!6/7/2013 12:00:00 AMGood food and serviceWe had a nice birthday dinner at Barbacco. The service was really good and they were very helpful. It was a nice surprise at the end of the dinner when they brought out a complimentary dessert of sherbert and Happy Birthday written in chocolate on the plate. I would certainly go back again.6/7/2013 12:00:00 AMNice Spot After WorkNo waiting when you arrive at 5:00 pm. Place gets pretty busy within an hour. Food and service are good. Hostess recommendations were satisfying. Brussels sprouts cooked in duck fat are just yummy!6/4/2013 12:00:00 AMBetter than PerbaccoI've eaten at both restaurants and each time both my guest and I agreed that Barbacco is better, hands down. The flavors in the menu items just dance on your tongue... really flavorful. Its the marraige of street food and chic dining. Conversely, Perbacco seems to hold back on its spices in what feels like the same style foods, but scaled back for the less adventurous diner. Both are beautiful but it's Barbacco all the way for me! (if you are crunched for time, neither is the place to go. I must go when you have time to enjoy your meal and the company you are with. Allow at least 1.15 hrs. for lunch)6/3/2013 12:00:00 AMalmost in italyBarbacco selections at lunch are fantastic. Our group shared 3 different bruschetta--crushed peas, chicken liver with marmalade onions and pork and bean mix--we split each one so we could each taste--all scrumptious. For our mains, we had the peposo stew (a medieval Tuscan pepper stew) served over polenta, the Bolognese lasagna and a squid and shrimp Panini. All of these were so wonderful. Was meeting one in the party for lunch--think I paid more for parking in the financial district than I did for lunch! So value was great too.
please Barbacco open a sister restaurant in Oakland or somewhere in the east bay!!!5/30/2013 12:00:00 AMConsistently ExcellentOften restaurants have good days and bad. Not so with Barbacco. We return time and again to find excellent food quality, fine service and reasonable prices.5/25/2013 12:00:00 AMSmall plate heaven!A new place for us, but we're already thinking of our next trip. Excellent small plates - these guys know their way around salumi and tasty bites. Loved the olives with short rib filling (!), and when we praised the Tuscan chicken liver pate, sous chef Miguel himself came out to speak with us and give us the recipe! We'll be back...5/24/2013 12:00:00 AMa great day-date!We were searching for lunch before a SFMOMA date. The lunch at Barbacco became the highlight of the date. Christen's service "just right". She was fast, neat, friendly. While Christen was helpful and readily available, there was never a hint of intrusiveness. The ipad wine list and specials menu was also a nice touch.5/24/2013 12:00:00 AMFood was delicious; tableFood was delicious; table service was a little too 'laid back' (could've been more attentive, forgot to serve the vegatable side order). Prices were reasonavle considering the location and atmosphere. Overall 3.5 stars5/18/2013 12:00:00 AMAlways AmazingI live close by and Barbacco is my go to place to grab a great meal. The food is consistently great, the staff and owners are extremely hospitable and the ambiance is fun and energetic. I also love that they have a great number of wines by the glass and that you can get both a full and "tasting" sizes. The staff are treated like family here, so there's not a great deal of turnover and after a few visits, you get to know everyone.5/18/2013 12:00:00 AMI thought the meatballs andI thought the meatballs and house salad were excellent and my guest had the lasagne which he really liked as well.5/17/2013 12:00:00 AMFabulous place to have a quickFabulous place to have a quick and delicious lunch downtown. Dont miss the tuna salad (and the signature brussel sprouts). Community seating makes it more interesting, too. Great place.5/15/2013 12:00:00 AMWeird but tasty menuThe Barbacco menu is just a little bit too "precious" to be believed, but the food is excellent and the service is outstanding. You can make a nice little lunch combining appetizers and a salad, or go whole hog and get a pasta or comforting risotto. The menu changes seasonally, which is nice, and while the sit-with-strangers environment takes a little getting used to, you can do some great eavesdropping here!5/13/2013 12:00:00 AMI love being able to orderI love being able to order tapas style here! The fried olives stuffed with short ribs are incredible, anything featuring their mushroom risotto is a must and last, the brussel sprouts - they know their brussel sprouts!
Definitely go!5/11/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat Date Night!Date night with my husband. We had a wonderful time. Food, service and atmosphere couldn't have been better.5/10/2013 12:00:00 AMGood Food and Very Good ServiceThe food at Barbaco is excellent. Nice combinations on the bruschetta - the pea, mushroom and liver pate are all "live wire". Have been there twice for lunch - had a salad once and a hot entree once. Both were delicious. Our servers were top notch - knew the menu very well and were very attentive. Would recommend this for anyone for lunch!5/6/2013 12:00:00 AMSpecial menuI addition to regular menu was a special menu from Abruzzo, as I'm from Italy was very interested. The chef had just come back from Italy. Everything we had was delicious, especially the lamb skewers not only smelt like just come the BBQ but tasted as well with the right amount of seasoning flavour. My husband's favourite was the lamb stew with various types of beans very Toscano. Have been here to this restaurant on many occasions, each time have had a great evening with great food. The staff are very friendly, chatty and helpful. Doesn't matter if you are sat at the counter, a table or the family style tables it's all enjoyable. Due to location if going mon-fri reserve and evenings at weekends, particularly if more than 2.5/3/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat downtown lunch spotHad a great experience at Barbacco last Thursday - food is approachable, but fantastic - many choices for picky eaters. The most difficult part was choosing what to order, as there are so many great selections. Convenient to the Financial District and other close-in areas.5/2/2013 12:00:00 AMFun place with good foodDon't arrive early as there is nowhere to sit--bar seating is reserved. The wine list on iPad is fun, and the selection is great. The waitress knew her stuff and was friendly and helpful. The bruschetta appetizer is wonderful. The mussels were perfectly spiced, but the halibut was a little overcooked. The portions were great, leaving us room for the yummy desserts. Appetizer, main course, and two glasses of wine each ran us $42 each before tip.4/29/2013 12:00:00 AMWent there for my boyfriend'sWent there for my boyfriend's birthday. Good food, great service and though it wasn't exactly quiet , could have a conversation. Would definitely come again.4/25/2013 12:00:00 AMVery good food and excellentVery good food and excellent service. Just gets better and better.4/18/2013 12:00:00 AMHave been wanting to go forHave been wanting to go for a long time. Wonderful menu. Loved the abundance of appetizers. Loved the Pinot! Yummy! dangerously close to my work!4/17/2013 12:00:00 AMThe food @ Barbacco is delicious. The food @ Barbacco is delicious. The chef never disappoints. I especially love their brussel sprouts & meatballs-- delicious! Service on this past visit was slow-- waiter completely disappeared when we needed our check. (?) Also while i don't mind the rowdy communal tables when you're with friends, it's too loud when you're with clients to hear (which is the bulk of my restaurant visits). :( I hope thry amend their reservation policy to ask which type of seating area you'd like- communal table or single table.4/17/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat food, but boy do I HATEGreat food, but boy do I HATE that communal seating and the bar seating. It's impossible to have a work lunch there, which is a shame.4/16/2013 12:00:00 AMEverything at Barbacco isEverything at Barbacco is consistently delicious and the prices are reasonable. What a find!4/15/2013 12:00:00 AMWent with a friend--we enjoyedWent with a friend--we enjoyed all the dishes. Outstanding were the steak and brussel sprouts. The meatballs were tasty but slightly oversalted. Lemon thyme sorbet was a perfect finish. Communal table was fun--talked about the food. Corkage was $20. Noise level may put off some--it's like a fun bar.4/12/2013 12:00:00 AMI go to Barbacco everytimeI go to Barbacco everytime I an in San Fran and it never disappoints.4/10/2013 12:00:00 AMFun and casual with hip vibe.Fun and casual with hip vibe. Service was a little slow especially bringing first wine. A couple of the small plate items where outstanding (dates in sugo) and others very good. Very fun menu and good value.4/8/2013 12:00:00 AMLove Barbacco for lunch; ILove Barbacco for lunch; I probably eat there about once a week. The brussel sprouts are addictive and the staff is fantastic. I always feel welcome there.4/8/2013 12:00:00 AMHave been back numerous timesHave been back numerous times now with different friends, and the food, regardless of what is ordered, never disappoints! From lasagna to meatballs, to angry mussles to the must have brussel sprouts, it's ALL delicious! Love the gelato as well.....4/6/2013 12:00:00 AMIt was a cool experience butIt was a cool experience but I'm not that crazy about sharing tables with people which is what we had to do. Fortunately the people were cool so it wasn't a big deal. All the food was amazing though, great selection of wine. Worth trying if you haven't been there.4/6/2013 12:00:00 AMNice spot for a business lunchNice spot for a business lunch but somewhat loud and you feel your are right on top of the next table. Food and service was excellent.4/5/2013 12:00:00 AMExcellent Cuisine, Service, Value! The food was superb, reasonably priced, and artfully-presented. The staff engaged us to serve our needs from the moment we walked in the door.4/5/2013 12:00:00 AMOur waiter was very good. Our waiter was very good. One of the people in our party wanted something that was no longer on the menu but the waiter was able to get what they wanted.4/4/2013 12:00:00 AMbarbacco is a company go-tobarbacco is a company go-to for lunch, it can be a little bit loud but it's very fun and the food is always excellent.3/29/2013 12:00:00 AMLove it!I occasionally travel to San Francisco for work and always make a point to go to Barbacco for dinner at least once while there. I love it!3/26/2013 12:00:00 AMFavorite lunch spotBarbacco is a new favorite lunch spot. The meatballs are excellent, as is the caesar salad and brussels sprouts. Others in our party tried the orchiette pasta and roasted chicken. It was all good. You have to try their chocolate chip cookies and chocolate cake for dessert. The noise level is more than energetic but that wasn't a choice on this survey, so expect to have to talk very loudly to hear conversation at your table if you are dining at the peak of lunch hour. We had loud people on both sides which was the only downside, and not the restaurant's fault. The seating is "communal", so you will likely be sharing your table with another party.3/26/2013 12:00:00 AMIt was a very yuppie-filledIt was a very yuppie-filled place, being located in the financial district. Suits, ties, and rolling cabin baggage were a frequent sight. I enjoyed the food, was impressed with the service, and liked how the wine list was put on an iPad.
My complaint was that it was rather weird being seated RIGHT NEXT TO complete strangers, in spite of having a reservation. We had to share a table with them, due to lack of space. The noise level was exceedingly loud as well.3/25/2013 12:00:00 AMNever disappointing. GoodNever disappointing. Good food, good energy, good service, etc..
I try to eat there at least once a week, average 3 times a week.
Excellent ambiance, clean, organized, all good things!3/23/2013 12:00:00 AMLOVE this place! Great, inventive,LOVE this place! Great, inventive, flavorful food at reasonable prices and a friendly atmosphere to boot!3/22/2013 12:00:00 AMWow! We Loved Barbacco! What a fantastic and creative menu this restaurant offers! We loved every savory bite of our selections. We also very much enjoyed the atmosphere of the restaurant. Will definitely return the next time we travel to San Francisco. Highly, highly recommended!3/22/2013 12:00:00 AMBarbacco is serving some ofBarbacco is serving some of the best food in San Francisco, no doubt. Each item I try equals or surpasses the amazing quality of the previous one. Best part of my work day in SF.3/21/2013 12:00:00 AMI always remember that BarbaccoI always remember that Barbacco is really good, but every time I go I'm still amazed by how good it is. We're not talking fine dining, just hip, good food. The brussel sprouts are a must have! The meat balls are HUGE, but melt in your mouth. Even the basic vegie soup hits the spot.3/14/2013 12:00:00 AMThis is one of my favoriteThis is one of my favorite restaurants in the city for a variety of reasons. The food is very reasonably priced for the quality and taste. The wine list is excellent. The servers are always good though the host and hostess typically seem overwhelmed always. However, once you sit it is a nice experience. Lots of items and worth going back multiple times to try everything. Brussels sprouts are the only MUST HAVE item.3/14/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat lunch spotThis is the 2nd time I've had lunch there. The food was delicious. We shared a large salad, foccacia, and two pastas (rigatoni and pork ragu). Service was excellent. I was surprised it wasn't as busy as my last visit though.3/12/2013 12:00:00 AM
