A word from Bar Mercurio Toronto
Dear Patron,

Welcome to bar MERCURIO. We are a quaint Italian restaurant that serves fresh pasta, a fish of the day, classic antipasti, and not - like our artichoke au gratin appitizer. With our salads you will find an anchovy partial cesar salad to a healthy dandelion salad with shaved crotonese cheese.

And what stands out are our pizzas. Our pizza dough has been a family recipe for over 100 years and not compromised. We don't do any of the new soft dough stuff that is trendy and etc etc

We serve classic pizzas like buffola and prosciutto to "crazy" stuff like pistacchio and fennel sausage.

Our gluten free crust is uncompromising.

In addition, we are pleased to be able to offer an interesting selection of wines by the glass with our Enomatic dispensing machine.

We look forward to seeing you.

Yours Truly,
Giuseppe Mercurio,

  • "... and have for many, many years. It is consistently GREAT and I can't say that about many Toronto restaurants. The food is always amazing and there is something on the menu for everyone. My friend and I decided to share a few plates for a long, leisurely lunch (with wine) and we enjoyed everything we ordered. We started with an arugula salad with crab, avacado and beets. Then moved onto a beautiful thin crust pizza with fennel sausage and wonderfully goopy cheese. Then we sampled the artichoke pasta. The house red wine by-the-glass was great too, but unfortunately doesn't come in half- or full-litres. We finished off with Americanos (also fabulous) and were too full to even think about dessert."

  • "Friendly service, delicious food, BEST tiramisu in Toronto! Our favourite spot for our girls-night birthday dinners - especially when the restaurant serves us complementary Limoncello with dessert."

  • "Food was only okay and our waiter was disinterested and more concerned about serving the regulars beside us."

  • "It's clear this is a regular hangout for the neighborhood. Service was excellent, recommended so fantastic wine for our meal and very easy to adjust menu items for one of our guests that is celiac. Pizzas were great. Classic Italian bistro in Toronto. Would definitely dine there again."

  • "The location is fantastic, and I was looking forward to trying the carciofi au gratin appetizer, but it was quite disappointing - watery artichokes with a decent au gratin, but they we're swimming in liquid under the crispy topping. The lamb special was very little lamb and very few veggies. The bar looks nice and I might come again just to have a drink. For my taste, the music is too loud. Another restaurant with hard surfaces and loud music. The pizza funghi also was disappointing with too much tomato sauce, tough mushrooms, and where was the prosciutto?"

  • "The guys, (Paulo, Robert and Omar) make us feel like we're visiting a good friend for dinner, popping by our table to have a quick chat even if we're not in their section. The food is wonderful and ambiance is lovely too."

  • "The food was descent and the servers were eager to please, but the overall experience caters to a much older crowd. "

  • "Delightful, intimate restaurant that focuses on quality food. We generally choose the pizza, and we always find the ingredients fresh and flavorful. The thin, wood fired crust is super. Salads are excellent-the one we tried had artichokes, tomatoes and avacado, providing a combination of wonderful spring flavors. The wine list includes very interesting and not typical selections from a variety regions. The servers are very attentive and informed. We can always rely on Bar Mecurio for good, interesting menu selections and an enjoyable, no fuss evening. "

  • "We've been to Bar Mercurio many times over the years and the food is always reliably good. This past visit I was stunned at the cost and concluded that the reason this establishment isn't as popular as it once was is that the price-performance doesn't stack up to the many options available in the city for this type of fare."

  • "Waiter was prompt and knowledgeable. Food was excellent, wine was great - cheapest bottle was $50. Lava cake was a little deflated but delicious."

  • "I ate dinner with a colleague at Mercurio, and we both enjoyed our meals. The server really knew the menu, and was able to make good recommendations. We were among the first in the restaurant for the evening, yet were seated very close to the front door. This meant that we got a chilly blast of air every time the door opened - not ideal. I know it's Toronto, and there's not much the restaurant can do about the cold, but it was quite cold being seated right next to the doors. Overall, though, a nice experience and some great food."

  • "I have been to Bar Mercurio many times over the past 5 years and every time I am welcomed as if I am one of the family. The service is always friendly & attentive and the food is fantastic. They have an outstanding wine selection and the servers are all very knowledgeable about the food and wine. The glamourus decor reminds me of New York city - almost like a mini vacation every time I visit."

  • "Went to Bar Mercurio for a business lunch around UofT. Very satisfied with the quality of the food and staff, but service was a little too slow for our liking. Make sure you have time to spend, or give yourself ample time for such basic requests as water and the bill."

  • "On a cold winter’s night, it was great to take the subway close to the restaurant. Definitely a plus. My guest had a pizza and I had the gorgonzola gnocchi. Both were excellent, as were the appetizers. I would definitely return. It was an enjoyable experience, and the service was very attentive."

  • "I've been here several times and lately this place is getting more and more confused. They don't check reservations, try to Move you after you are seated, orders get lost, and delivery is slow. Food bats higher than service. Waitresses ... Good natured... But totally run off their feet. Wine prices per glass are too high for what is delivered.unfortunately it serves a captive u of t lunchtime market, hence I get stuck returning. Ugh."

  • "Very good food. Reasonable service. A bit too noisy. Far too expensive for lunch if you have a glass of wine! Really enjoyed if for dinner on other occasions. A good go-to place once in awhile."

  • "My friends and I love celebrating our birthdays at Bar Mercurio because the staff make our dinner extra enjoyable. The staff are very attentive and friendly and the food is delicious and consistently good. (You must try the crunchy kale salad and the caesar salad - both delish.) The table setting, service, wine list and the regular customers are all very high-end (given the upscale neighbourhood) but the restaurant feels very comfortable, cozy and never snooty. It's a real gem! Definitely one of my favourite places to dine in Toronto."

  • "On a sunny afternoon, had lunch out on Bar Mercurio's patio. As a repeat customer, I tried the day's special. I was not disappointed. It was nut-crusted trout and a side of my favourite artichoke pasta. The trout was beautifully done. The crust of nuts was just amazing well done; the nuts were so lightly toasted, the varietal taste of them were abundant. I wish it was a regular menu item, it was so good. Being the only one on the patio, the service was not as attentive as normally received inside."

  • "I read some of the reviews and they were generally favourable but I usually don't go to the restaurant that someone I know didn't recommend. I took a chance and it worked out wonderfully. My date enjoyed it too so I couldn't ask for anything more."

  • "Simply love this restaurant, they do a great job. Food is tasty and done well, servers are very friendly but down to earth, it is the perfect combination of upscale and comforatable"

  • "Over-priced food and outrageously marked-up wines. We had two individual pizzas, one for $20 and the other for $18. While both had finely-done thin crusts, one of them ($18) had five olives for four slices and uneven distributions of other ingredients, not ideal for sharing. The one for $20 was the house special and was done well, but its equal could have been obtained in many other places for $14 or $15. As for the wines, the cheapest red was $49 per bottle for a wine we had bought at LCBO for around $12. We ordered a bottle anyway because that was our plan for the night out. Nevertheless, we felt cheated. A young couple sitting near us looked at the wine list, laughed and then ordered mineral water. We should have done the same."

  • "My first time at this Italian restaurant in Bloor and Avenue. Was really impressed with the food and service. The salads were so fresh and the pasta and pizza we had were to die for. Really recommend this very "NY bistro like" . I will definitely go back!"

  • "I came later than the 4 other guests - I'd alerted the restaurant we needed a table for 5 but when I arrived, there was no seat for me. I was planning on ordering something - anything - a glass of wine, a soup, a dessert, a meal but despite sitting there for 40 minutes! no one ever took my order. The waiter did see me and brought me a menu, but he never returned. Someone who looked like a manager popped by to see if we were okay - yes fine thx but we'd like to order food please. Nadda happened. Our waiter was so run off his feet, we simply gave up trying to get his attention. I ate leftovers on someone else's plate and we spent 15 minutes++ trying extract our bill from the place. The place was very busy. It was chaotic."
