  • "i love the convenience of making an on-line reservation, but hate it that at Bannock they call you to saying you need to call back to "confirm" - might as well have just called them in the first place. When i do an on-line bank transaction the bank doesn't make me come in or call to confirm, not sure why these guys think it makes sense and is necessary"

  • "Went with a group of 7 for Summerlicious and had the beet salad, the Canadian Bacon sandwich, and the ice cream/sorbet. Everything tasted amazing and I am a picky eater! I think the ingredients must be very fresh since each item (beet, cabbage on the sandwich) tasted exceptionally flavourful. Someone from our group was vegan and they were able to accommodate that, including dessert! The vibe was relaxed and trendy, but I would not think of it as a "dining" sort of venue since you walk through sort of a "take out" area before getting to the seated area."

  • "I always pass by Bannock when I commute on Queen, but finally decided to go try the food when I found out Chef Miheer Shete, Chopped Canada champion, was working there. Ordered from the Summerlicious menu and had a spectacular time! Smoked salmon and salted beet salad to start, dredgeman's fish pie for a main, and an apple fritter for dessert. Great atmosphere for a casual meal, but fancy enough to enjoy wine. Visually appealing decor and terrific service."

  • "The place was very noisy, but was of beautiful decor. I had a salad and fish pie for my meal which was impressive. The bread pudding for dessert was a bit disappointing but i'm no connoisseur of bread pudding. The waitress wasn't the happiest person in the world. I'm of the age that hasn't entered the workforce yet, and I went with another friend of the same age. There was mostly business men and women eating there and I felt she gave off a condescending vibe because we were so young."

  • "Came in for lunch during the first Sunday. Quite busy as expected and service was slow bringing food out but they were attentive with replenishing the water. Appetizer were salt baked beets and chilled caesar. Nothing too fancy or out of this world. Mains were the hawaiian pizza and bacon melt. Huge portions, commendable for that. No need for dinner that day, however the pizza was mighty spicy and I could handle spice and the melt was mediocre. Dessert was blackberry ice and bread pudding. All in all the take away was service was slow but to be expected and for $15 still a damn good deal despite less than inspiring quality considering food court food isn't much cheaper."

  • "Bannock is very well designed and surprisingly relaxed, service was spot on too. My friend really enjoyed their meal and it looked super tasty. My meal was ok, only had typical vegetarian noodle option that was nothing special. I'm happy I finally went to Bannock but wouldn't be miffed if I didn't go again."

  • "This was a great restaurant to discover. It didn't have a view or a big space, but it did great with what it had. An open kitchen concept that lets you watch them prepare food as you walk in. I came here for summerlicious, the service was great, food arrived, but my main course fell a little short. It was a Fish pie, but the pie was cracked, as well as the top of the pie slid to the side. The presentation was a bit disappointing. Good thing they had an amazing dessert. The sorbet was good on a numerous notes, however, the bread pudding had a weird flavour that did not mix well with the peanut butter chocolate sauce."

  • "Started with the chilled Caesar soup, followed by the fish pie and apple fritters for dessert. The Caesar was absolutely fantastic - slow heat from the spice, salty (but not overwhelmingly so) and refreshing. The pie was also quite good - the fish was cooked perfectly and the pastry was buttery and broke well. However, the accompanying arugula salad was extremely salty, which is pretty weird for a salad. As for the apple fritters, the highlight was the syrups served with them (maple dulce de leche and a raspberry reduction). The fritters themselves were pretty bland. Server was rude. It's one thing to be inattentive because you're busy, but a server being purposefully curt and condescending when you've been polite marred the experience."

  • "I enjoyed a business lunch at Bannock. The server was, perhaps, one of the best I have ever encountered. My guest and I explained that we are in no great rush and that wasn't a problem for him. He was knowledgeable about the food and the wine. The food was delicious! The noise level did get "energetic" as the restaurant filled at lunch so not sure this is a lunch spot for a quiet experience. A wonderful visit and will return."

  • "This restaurant is a great choice for vegetarians, with lots of innovative menu options. The Canadian aspect of the restaurant was great, and a good find to bring out of town guests if you want something with national flair- even if the average canadian never eats bannock! The pastries looked amazing, though I didn't try them. The pick up and go lunch area is very busy. Looking into the cosmetic area at the bay was weird, but kind of worked!"

  • "This was my second visit to Bannock. I was impressed by the venison chilli on my first visit, and the food was equally impressive this time. I had seared albacore tuna and my husband had the atlantic cod and shrimp cake. The food arrived quickly and tasted great, and we were both seriously happy with our melon sangrias."

  • "The atmosphere and service here is fantastic. The menu looks quite impressive with creative dishes, however, the execution on the flavours of the dishes needs to be improved. This was the second time I dined at Bannock and I was disappointed in the flavours both times. In particular, the dish I ordered this time was one of the specials, a Westernized rendition of kimchi on pulled pork. The flavour of the pulled pork was much, much, much too salty and imbalanced, so much so that it was nearly inedible. I tasted the other dishes from the 5 other diners I was with, and while the flavours were edible, they were not up to my expectations. I would go here again only for drinks because the service is quite exceptional."

  • "I made a reservation for a large group as part of a girls' weekend for a friend that's getting married, and the service we received was above and beyond expectations. A number in our group have food restrictions that can sometimes be difficult in restaurants, but at Bannock everyone was accommodated with a smile, and everyone left with their stomachs full and happy. We had a great time! Many thanks."

  • "The ambience was very nice. It is a fresh, welcoming place. Our server was attentive and made us comfortable. I did not love what I ordered. It was the bacon, tomato and avocado sandwich. I am not fond of peameal bacon and although this was not peameal it was thick and chewy and I would have preferred a more traditional bacon. The bannock was good."

  • "The pickerel buns remain the tastiest option on the menu - fresh, perfectly cooked fish with shredded rutabaga and golden caviar in a Chinese steamed bao. The chicken livers on tostadas were also very good and surprisingly light. The haddock and shrimp cake was not oily and went well with the homemade tartar sauce."

The chips were sort of blah and nothing special but the fish cake was delicious as well as the accompanying arugula salad. My friend had the spinach greens mac and cheese and declared it divine! Another lovely evening at Bannock :)"

  • "We got here early even though our reservation was for 15 minutes later. We had asked if we could be seated earlier but the hostess said our reservation was for a certain and that we would have to wait. I was disappointed that she did not even offer to say that she'll see what she can do. At least another host offered to do that. I don't know if I'd go back although service at the table was ok. The hostess left a bad impression for me on this restaurant."
