  • "Went to ballantines for sushi slash night because I had heard that the chef working had worked at youngs before. Youngs is probably the absolute best sushi place that I've ever been to- I have yet to find a better place. My friend and I ordered sushi and it was absolutely terrible. The ingredients tasted retched and the chefs take on the sushi was so far from the traditional rolls I wouldn't even use the same name. I'm sticking to youngs. Our waitress was very nice she was just quite slow. Didn't check on how our meal was until 20 min in and took forever to bring a beer."

  • "Ballantine is situated right in the thick of the scene. Be sure to really read through the menu - it has everything from sushi to steaks to thai, burgers and even wood fired pizza. The beer menu apparently is truly legendary - we would recommend reservations for sure. Man-oh-man was the food really good!"

  • "I'd been to Ballentine's a couple of times in the past ~ nice place to grab a beverage and an appetizer; nice atmosphere. We decided to go there for dinner as a friend of mine said the menu had changed and was supposed to be excellent. The menu is not very extensive; the focus is on "healthful" ingredients/items- which is not a bad thing, just different- with Sushi being the big draw (Monday is Sushi night with more specials than what is on the menu). I'm not a sushi fan & had a hard time making a selection. The entrée selection had the chicken priced @ $18.00 with additional cost for toppings. From there the prices jumped to $26.00. I thought the prices high for the area & atmosphere. Our waitress was very nice but appeared very stressed."

  • "We have eaten here on numerous occasions over the past couple of years. The food was very disappointing - mostly the side dishes of garlic mashed potatoes and the blackened green beans. Thankfully they did a better job with the fillets. Not sure when we will visit again."

  • "The food here is always delicious and this visit was no different. They added sushi to the menu and it was very good. I also had the filet which was prepared perfect and is one of the best in the area. If that wasn't enough they also have half off bottles of wine on Tuesdays and windows that slide out of the way so that some tables are open to the street of downtown Willoughby."

  • "I had been going to Ballantines for years as a local hang out/place to unwind. My girlfriend and i were looking for somewhere to eat so we decided why not somewhere cool and special. We both agreed that Ballantines was the place we were going to check out. It blew our minds to say the very least. We ordered the Mango Roll off the sushi menu. It was fresh, savory, yet was a killer way to start out a meal since it was a lighter dish. Our entree's were Lamb Chops for the lady and for me i got the THE PAT LAFRIEDA burger. The lamb chops were cooked to perfection and were served with glazed brussel sprouts that would make anyone love them. And the burger was by far one of the finest i have had."

  • "What's nice about Ballantines is that everyone will find something to enjoy. The menu is eclectic - ranging from pizzas to sushi, burgers to sea bass, ribs to scallops! We all ordered different things are everyone seemed happy with their choices. Nice craft beer list, some fun specialty cocktails and good ambience. Wasn't too crowded or noisy. Service by Nicole was perfect! I'd go back."

  • " I had a good steak the other night. That's kind of sad. Balantines used to have superior steaks. They used to have a bone in ribeye that was one of the best in the country. So to have a good steak there is disappointing. I can go to Longhorn and get a good ribeye for half the price. The time before that I was disappointed by the good burger I had. I used to tell people that there was no better place to get a burger in North East Ohio. The Fungi burger with the Boursin cheese was the bomb. I think they used to make their own hamburger patties. The last burger I got there was just a burger, the patty looked like it came out of the freezer from a grocery store and the fungi burger was not on the menu. They are now good not great."

  • "We had dinner on a sat night and as we were finishing 2 seater tables/chairs were removed.Windows were opened and a DJ started playing music loudly with strobe lights. Our waitress came back wearing barely any clothes. The atmosphere changed from an expensive casual dinning obiance to a young dance club. We were surprised the clientele changed so signicantly and atmosphere. "

  • "Ballantine's food is delicious! Sushi is awesome. All the Burgers are absolutely awesome when made to order as requested. We ordered medium but got medium well. However, the Filet was perfectly made. Apps and salads were great. They were out of several bar ingredients so they couldn't make certain drinks off the menu. The drinks we ordered were good but very inconsistent. If you order a mixed drink, the first was never made the same as the last. Ballantine has the potential for being a 5 out of 5!"

  • "We had been to Ballantine several times. The new menu was quite disappointing. None of us could find anything we wanted to eat, so 2 chose pizza, another a hamburger. I think you are trying too hard to be "hip" on your new menu, with strange ingredients. Moinaries did this too and we stopped going there. Back to Noosa for us."

  • "We had not been to Ballantines for a few months so we went for our weekly date night. All and all it was a disappointment and I guess they will fall off my list of Willoughby restaurants to frequent. The service was poor and the food was only mediocre. The Lobster nachos were really pathetic in terms of Lobster and flavor and definitely not worth the menu price. Our salads were good, but our entrees of salmon and scallops and shrimp were just fair. Our waitress was very slow and would disappear for long periods of time. For the price points on their menu I expect more and have received more at Ballantines in the past - unfortunately that was not the case on our last visit."

  • "I tried 3 of my main restaurants first, which all turned out to be closed on Monday - So Ballentine was my 4th choice. Staff was annoyed that my girl and I came in a 9:30 (with a reservation) even though they serve until 10. Waiter had attitude at first, but warmed up by the end of the night. Sushi was top notch, dirty martini was made well too. Overall a good experience, especially for Monday night where a lot of other places are closed."

  • "If you love beer, this place is for you. If you love mixed drinks with top shelf liquor, go some where else. The staff is really nice, but they don't know what is in the drinks. I was given a shot of well gin for a mojito. The food was decent, hot and we didn't wait long."

  • "Ballantine is a great neighborhood restaurant with an excellent rotating list of beer taps. The menu is somewhat limited but with some solid standbys (steaks, burgers, wood fired pizzas, etc). They usually have a list of off-menu specials, last Saturday this included Rack of Lamb, Pork Tenderloin, and Salmon among others. Friday and Saturday nights are crowded with a good mix of folks, but it does turn noticeably younger around 10:30 or so, as it seems to turn into a late night hang out at that point."

  • "First time there it was a lot different from the pictures online but it was really nice I like the fact you can see the chef's prepare the food for us and that they have a sushi bar as well is nice not being a sushi or seafood fan it makes neat to see them make it the lamb that I had was amazing now that I had the best lamb I'll probably never eat lamb anywhere else again expect there haha the atmosphere there was good wasn't to dark but it also wasn't to bright and there was no smell of smoke in the air which is most definitely a plus now for the negative side I was sadden that table was small and seemed in the way of traffic and not to mention I should have asked for a window seat that's all"

  • "Special VD menu was excellent. It was a little cold and drafty near our table and could have been warmer. We were seated near the front windows that open during the summer. The waiter could have been a bit more attentive but overall was a great way to spend valentines day. Will definitely return!"

The site never said anything about a special valentines menu or that the full menu would be unavailable. Disappointed in that. What was available was well prepared and very very good. Service was good also. It's definitely worth another trip to see what the entire menu has to offer"

Food and drinks came out in an expedient manner. everything was good. i was stressing a little d/t the reviews of slow service, but this WAS NOT the case with us...THANK YOU THANK YOU for making this such a pleasurable evening for me and my girlies!"

  • "First time eating here and wasn't sure what to expect. Everyone at our table ordered one of the steaks and nobody was disappointed. They were among the best steaks we've ever had. The music was a little loud and they were out of cheesecake that nigh, but otherwise it was a great experience."

  • "the food was fantastic--well prepared. the reason they did not receive 5 stars was the cold, drafty seating in the front window. there was no plan for raising the temperature in that small space so we ended up moving our table. i realize this was in the middle of winter but we weren't the only ones that had complained about this issue. manager, adam, did his best to resolve the issue for everyone."

  • "I've never been disappointed with an evening out at Ballantine. We chose it for "girls' night out" and had a great time. The menu has something for everyone, the portions are generous and well prepared. It was not very busy for a Saturday night (but the weather was bad) so the noise level was down. In addition to some good wines, they also have a great beer list."

  • "I made reservations on open table, when we arrived to the restaraunt, they seated us at the smallest table that was next to the bar and in the path of busy waiters. If I wanted to move, I was afraid that I would be taken out by a server. At this time, there were plenty of tables open. I asked if we could be moved to another table that was more spacious, I was informed that these tables were reserved for later, so they would not move us! This is the second time that this has happened to me at this restaraunt. Also when we leaving the restaruant, the tables were still not seated. They have unique cocktails and a good beer list, there food was okay. Might go back for drinks, but not sure if I will return for dinner."
