Avenues Proper hit the mark on
every level. The restaurant itself had great decor and right when you walk in the door, you see why they have such a great beer selection. The micro brew equipment is encased with windows and there are 2 different sides of the restaurant. We wanted to try several dishes and split several small plates and appetizers. The pork belly and brussels sprouts and chicken and waffles were our favorite, with the cod fish sticks close behind. Our server was very attentive and also provided some great recommendations for food and drinks. We will definitely be going back!"

Avenues Proper was a fun place to
go. They have an extensive list of beers and some out-of-the-ordinary cocktails. We will definitely be returning for dinner and likely brunch."

My wife and I have been several
times and each time has been great! Love all the food, beer, and atmosphere."
Dined on 2/14/2014
We really enjoyed it. Had some
burgers and salads that were all great. Good gluten free options. Some really nice locally brewed beers, and a few ciders for the gluten free ones. Would recommend it, and will definitely be back soon."

We loved everything we
tried...chicken and waffles, seafood and frites, hamburger, and appetizers. Fun presentations of the food, This was our first time there but will definitely go back again. Very courteous when I had to change my reservation twice in one night."

Let me start by saying that I love
food, I love eating out and most importantly I love have a memorable dining experience one that makes me want to immediately return. My issues with Avenues Proper is the same issues I have with 50% of the restaurants I dine at. This is a restaurant opens up with much excitement and wows you with the food, service and atmosphere etc. Then as you go back to dine there is this slow degradation of the food, service and atmosphere as if they are starting to just give up and settle for mediocrity. the food is very uninspired and usually comes out on the cold side. The service leaves way too much to be desired lacking in sophistication more like a diner vibe and most certainly does not match the price point!!!"

I chose Avenues Proper because of
the local/regional farmers sourced. I had gnocchi and my husband ordered mussels. Wonderful meal, great atmosphere. We will definitely go again. The wait staff was friendly and efficient."

I loved the chicken and waffles.
The rarebit with frittes was a great starter to share with friends."

After thoroughly enjoying our
initial visit to this eatery several months ago, subsequent visits have been progressively less enjoyable. The menu tends toward the excessively heavy and trendy. with few lighter options or fare appropriate for vegetarians. The ambiance remains the biggest draw, although tables near the front suffer from cold breezes whenever the door is opened. We will hold off for a while and return when the weather is better to see if the menu has improved."

Environment, beer, and food very
similar to the Annex of Epic Brewery. There is a dining area and a bar area. Both have beautiful comfortable seating situations. The food is simple but exploding with flavors, while utilizing local fare. Extensive beer and liquor selection, with a big screen TV for sports events. The atmosphere was quiet, relaxed, and friendly."

I look forward every weekend
finding new places to eat. This is by far my favorite place. We will be planning on coming in for brunch every Sunday. Looking forward to trying dinner. Thanks"

We were seated right away and had
made reservations prior, service was very good they were a bit busy so they were doing their best. One note I would like to make that would make me go back and recommend this to anyone, the manager was out on the floor and in the kitchen picking up and helping everyone during this busy time and making sure that people were taken care of and had what they needed in a very friendly and timely manner. That you do not see much any more. He was a very good help to his staff and to the customers. Food was very good and served warm and had not sat for a minute in the kitchen. Please give this a try... it is well worth the time and money."

The hostess sat us next to two
very loud, gossiping girls when there were many tables available. We made reservations for our anniversary so not being seeing by ourselves was disappointing. The food was good, suck fat popcorn was good but wouldn't order again . The burger didn't compare to other top spots like Copper onion. The tomatoe paste based sauce did not belong on the burger. The frites were good but the chicken and waffles was the best! Would order that agin. The waiter was good except he brought us two of the same beers and we thought they tasted the same and when we got the check it said 2x that beer."

We love farm to table, local
dining, good beers and wine and a place to be able to bring our 12 yr old also. The food was ok we ordered olives, cheese and crackers and pumpkin to start. The pumpkin was plain even though it had a spoon full of tomato sauce on it, olives nothing special, surprising my daughters cheese and crackers were the best. I do not eat beef or pork so I guess it was my problem that there was not a lot to choose from! My husband had steak which came with a plate full of fries not a fresh vegetable to be seen, my daughter had chicken and waffles which she liked and I had a salad and fish sticks. I could have bought a bag of arugula and a box of fish sticks for a lot cheaper. Beer was good."

We were seated in the bar area,
where the tables aren't really suitable for two people dining comfortably, but we made do - which was easy given the great service, delicious and eclectic food, and excellent in-house beers. Would definitely recommend, and go again myself, but might specifically ask to be seated in dining area, when making reservations."

Had a great meal with good service
the other night at Avenue Proper. Braised brisket was outstanding."
Dined on 12/13/2013
Each time we visit Avenues Proper,
the options get more varied and the quality only improves. The use of seasonal ingredients like pumpkin perfectly paired with their great beer selection. The brisket was like a refinement upgrade from some of the best southern BBQ I've ever had."

I had dinner at Avenues Proper
with a friend - we mostly came to try the beer but also ate dinner. I did not have high expectations for the food because of very mixed reviews, especially about small serving sizes. For food I had the burger, which was really quite good. The tomato relish was delicious, the burger well cooked and the bread for the bun was fresh. Serving size was definitely not a problem for the burger. It was good, not spectacular. For beer, I tried two beers brewed at Avenues Proper: the red oatmeal ale which was very good and the Proper beer ( a golden ale) which was not special. Overall, a good experience and a nice place to have a beer and some upscale pub food."

Given my love for excellent brunch
spots, I was very pleased with the Avenues Proper. The Italian eggs were excellent and their brioche french toast was astounding. Although I had a few bloody Mary's, it's important to note that their local only beer selection is impressive and I will be back to grab a pint soon. All in all very impressed"

Met for brunch there and had a
wonderful experience. Great wait staff and delicious food."

We were greeted promptly and shown
to our table which was ready for us. Our drinks came promptly and we enjoyed them while hearing about the specials. .We enjoyed our dinners thoroughly! We were going to the theater following dinner, but stayed to enjoy two of their desserts, the goat cheese tart with beet ice cream and a chocolate parfait. Both were like nothing we'd had before and scrumptious. A great evening. One that we'll be sure to repeat."

AP was a great find , good for a
low key date night. It was a little pricy but totally worth it. Lots of detail goes into the food, drinks, service and atmosphere. This is the kind of place that makes me feel like SLC is becoming a real urban city!!"

Everything we ate was very tasty.
It's hard to make pomme frites memorable, but those were some mighty fine spuds. I had the burger, my companion had the pumpin. We shared the daily pickles and olives as appys, and tried different cocktails. All amazing. It is always nice to find a restaurant that is willing to offer a unique selection of cocktails, like the Pool Water. I'm happy to pay $10 for such a treat in adult form. Service was great and the staff very friendly. I didn't tick outdoor dining as it's past the season for that at the moment, but I'm eager to try the patio come spring."
Dined on 10/26/2013
Everything was great, from the
Apps to the main dishes and the Micro-Brew! Where else can you go to get Chicken and Waffles, beer, and still stay classy!"
Dined on 10/20/2013
Numerous small plates were ordered
for our table of four. This is a new restaurant with new staff but that didn't prevent them from experimenting and delighting. From the prawns to the chicken liver mousse everything was delicious. I will definitely go back."

We had a great time watching the
Utah vs BYU game at Avenue's bar. Our server Micah was friendly, knowledgable and coursed our bites out perfectly throughout the game. We had the fish sticks (with amazing house tartar sauce), pommes frites (with addictive rye aioli), chèvre chaud and the gnocchi. Everything was absolutely delicious. For beer we tried Avenue's Proper Ale, Fever Pitch Saison and the Goze - all brewed in-house. The Saison was one of the best beers I've ever had with floral notes and a nice crisp finish. The Proper reminded us perfectly of the ales we had in England. We capped the win off with a delicious peach cobbler with lavender ice cream, only one of several great desserts options. Can't wait to try their brunch!"

They have never failed to deliver
wonderful culinary delights."

Avenues Proper was an excellent
Friday night dining option. The food was excellent (Steak Frites, rare), and the beer was quite good. The AP Proper had a medium-hoppy flavor, reminiscent of Cutthroat with a slightly fuller body. The Saison had a very floral bouquet, with a nice light finish. Overall, an awesome neighborhood restaurant for the local foodie."

This was very good restaurant for
a casual weekend dinner. It would have been better if the outdoor service area had been available. There was a thunder storm that night."
Dined on 9/8/2013
Just about everything on the menu
sounds delicious, but the results are varied. Pork belly was over cooked, and a tiny portion compared to the steak. The sweetness was overdone in the tiramisu. Burgers were cooked perfectly. Service was attentive, but the kind of non-professional feel one frequently finds in Salt Lake City. The beer list is the best of any decent restaurant in town. It feels like they are going for an upscale, chef driven product, but they need to refine the recipes and cooking to match the fancy and delightful sounding descriptions. I would certainly go back for another try, but Avenues Proper did not meet the expectations I had based on the recommendations I received."
Dined on 9/2/2013
As a new restaurant, there is much
room for improvement if they are to succeed. Small portions, overpriced, and average taste with limited options; leave considerable space for culinary evolution.."

Had an unexpected Salt Lake City
overnight stay due to airline issue, found online review. Great ambience and staff. Great steak frite of the day, NY strip well cooked and very tender. Locally sourced fresh salad. Wonderful meal"

Best service I have had in Salt
Lake! The food was to die for and the drinks were delicious and refreshing! The bartender even came out to pick the basil for my drink from the pant growing at the entrance."
Dined on 8/17/2013
When this restaurant hit my radar
screen I could not picture it. That might be the telltale sign of a great neighborhood dining experience away from the chain restuarant landscape. We had great service with knowledgeable recommendations. This night out included mostly small plates shared between 4 of us. All were excellent & the range of flavor was truly innovative. The craft beers & the wine list was solid. The fact that they run late with a bar & small plate menu will certainly draw us back. Wrapping up with the goat cheese pie & beet ice cream certainly added to the expansive flavor range. The only negative related to the items they were out of that we did not get to try on this visit. A small price to pay for suppoting local iinvestment."
Dined on 8/18/2013
We sat outside on a pleasant
evening. Service was prompt, friendly and knowledgeable. While the menu is small, everything we had was excellent. Our son declared his draft beer made in house to be one of the best beers he had ever had (and he has had a few, including many in Germany and Europe). We will be back many times."
Dined on 8/4/2013
I really wanted to like Avenues
Proper, and the Pool Water cocktail started the night out right. The pickles appetizer came quickly, but our mains took a while to arrive. The gnocchi was over-salted but still edible, and the ribeye was chewy and not very flavorful. Not worth the $40/person our meal came out to. We will not be back."
Dined on 8/1/2013
Each dish was great. The chicken
and waffles embodies familiar flavors, but with perfection. Their selection of cheeses for the cheese plate had intense but lovely flavors. And although every restaurant has a signature burger, the AP Burger had its own voice with a tomato-based instead of cream-based sauce, and add some bacon."
Dined on 7/24/2013
The restaurant was out of all
three items that I would've liked to order plus two beers. The dishes we did order were ok. Our server was initially very much distracted by his friends/ former coworkers, which resulted in a long wait for our drinks to arrive. We found out about specials from our neighbor diners but later through the evening our server did make an effort and he seemed to be overall a knowledgeable, and friendly guy. Maybe he too was burned out from the busy weekend. I will have to pay another visit to give a fair review."

Quickly becoming a Salt Lake
favorite and Avenues destination. I keep coming back... A vibrant scene and great late night hours on Friday and Saturday. I've fallen in love with the house made pate. Propper's rendition of the Welsh Rarebit is a find. And the local elk carpaccio.... Yum. Now that my physician is concerned for my cholesterol, the delicious salads don't let down. It's apparent that everything is hand made with care. I struggle to find a criticism - maybe drain the oil from the housemade chips a bit better. Don't miss the stout ice cream that is made in partnership with the neighbors - Hatch Chocolates. Did I mention the beer.... Thanks for coming to the neighborhood!"

Lunch was great. Had roast beef
sandwich which was excellent. Server was very polite and attentive. Clean comfortable atmosphere. I live about a block away, very nice to be able to walk to a restaurant and they are great nieghbors."
