Diner Reviews
  • "This restaurant is within walking distance of the Pantages theater. Unlike many of the other pretentious restaurants closer to the theater, this one has great food! Very knowledgeable staff regarding the menu and were very aware of our time constraint. Excellent presentation, but mostly just excellent, well prepared food."

  • "Aventine was affordable, and the food was amazing! Great presentation, creative way of putting the items together. We had the Burratta and the Gamberoni for appetizers, the Pizza Bianca, and then for dessert we had the Caramel Budino. All were amazing. The vinagrette on the Burratta paired well with the grees, and the toasted bread with it was perfect. The vinagrette with the proscuto wrapped shrimp (the Gamberoni) was maginificent. The pizza was a thin crust pizza and I loved the toppings. The flavors in the desserts were easily destictable, you could taste the accent of salt with the caramel and chocolate. The service was great too. I enjoyed one of their specialty drinks with crushed cucumber in it which was amazing as well."

  • "First of all, the room is lovely. High end rustic. Covered patio that will be great in the summer. Varied menu with some interesting choices. And excellent service!"

  • "I've been to this restaurant before and dining in the outdoor courtyard has always been charming and great. But my most recent visit on Friday night was pretty awful - the courtyard turned into a nightclub at 10pm, and me and my dinner guests were practically screaming at each other over the music trying to chat as we ate dinner. It was really unpleasant."

  • "Wonderful ambiance and friendly staff. Delicious moderately priced food and drinks."

  • "Its a great place - the food is superb and of the highest standards around. BUT the music is awful and was way too loud… all our party objected to this. Honestly there is no need for music at all in a nice pace like this. would think hard before going back..."

  • "In the busy (and sometimes touristy) bar and restaurant scene, is this wonderful gem of a restaurant. My boyfriend and i shared a pizza and a pasta dish and were thrilled with the atmosphere and service by friendly staff, waiters, and bus boys. We had a wonderful experience and will definitely be back soon!"

  • "We ate here prior to attending a show at the Pantages. The food was good, the waiter was very attentive and spent time reviewing the menu to make sure we all knew what was available. My teenage daughter was not thrilled about the choices as there are not a lot of "standard" Italian dishes available, but overall I think everyone enjoyed their meal. The music was quite loud, but when we asked if they could turn it down a little bit, they gladly did so. There is valet parking available out front, and we were able to leave our car there for the entire evening for just $10. It was a short 3-4 block walk to the theater from the restaurant, so very convenient!"

  • "We came here after seeing a show at the Pantages. We had a reservation and when we walked in we were seated right away. The staff were warm and friendly. The noise level was above what is comfortable for a conversation but the music was decent, not too frenetic, so at least it was tolerable. The food was very good. A nice selection of small bites, pizza, pasta, entrees and desserts. We had a collection of appetizers and a pasta dish which we shared. Great for a late evening meal."

  • "Loved the native Italian food and choice of wines. A patio with lights in the trees adjoins the dining area giving it an indoor-outdoor feeling. Service was prompt and professional~ Can't wait to go back with boyfriend or GNO!"

  • "Our party of 4 found the food and service to be good. However, the loud music pretty much spoiled our dinner. A restaurant should have background music and they had the music at a volume which was not compatible with good dinner conversation. For that reason, we won't go back."

  • "The ambiance is lovely, comfortably elegant. The dishes we ordered were great and tasted really fresh, particularly the pesto gnocchi. It is a bit loud but we were still able to enjoy conversation. As the evening grew later however the music changed to a bit more 'club/dance' music, which is a little contradictory to the 'upscale casual' feel of the restaurant. It turns out Aventine has a club as well, AV next door. I am unsure if that has anything to do with the shift in vibe but it was notable to me. Aside from that, very enjoyable."

  • "I happened upon this restaurant two weeks ago and was pleasantly surprised to discover that the food is outstanding and equally important, the staff is friendly, courteous, and very helpful! The server Gigi is particularly amazing and went out of her way to make our dining experience awesome. I have already returned for a second visit."

  • "Descent crowd of Age 30+, pleasant staff, but wash't impressed by the food or having to yell a little much while trying to have a conversation. Bick-walls may look cool but are very unpractical unless you want to project sound off of them.."

  • "I've been wanting to come here. It's great. The ambience, Decore and food looked amazing. Would definitely come here again. Love the casa salad and the ravioli"

  • "Food is average and expensive, servers have an attitude. Might come back for a drink only since it is a beautiful place."

  • "This is a great place for dinner. I went with my girlfriend and we had wonderful sea bass and a shrimp appetizer. The service was nice too."

  • "Service was a little slow, though it was not busy. Some food was also better than others. Short ribs were very nice, Carbonara was awful, and the lasagna would have been good if it wasn't burnt to the skillet. Bread was good, and compound butter was awesome. Decor is great, and concept is good - would be a great place if they can get everything together."

  • "We finally made an open-table reservation on Friday and I'm glad we did! After being greeted immediately by smiling hostesses, we walked to the bar at the patio and immediately into a magical place, with fairy-lit trees and warm and cozy lighting. The patio is covered in the winter, which kept the cold out. The bartenders were friendly and skillful - great vodka martinis, and then some specialty drinks. Went to our table and the magic continued - all the staff were extremely friendly and we were made to feel at home the whole night. We try to bring good energy wherever we go, and got it back in triplicate here! Others have written about the food, which is outstanding, but is is the staff that makes this place shine!"

  • "This was the second time I've gone to this Restaurant, the first time was great this second time was very disappointing and underwhelming. The pasta we ordered was VERY sweet, no excuses. The service was condescending, won't go back. There are so many good restaurants in LA left to explore this one is off my list."

  • "It was very noisy but it was a Friday night at 9pm. Octopus appetizer was fabulous. Halibut not so much."

  • "Here is a restaurant with terrific food and great table service. However, they seem to have changed their Valet parking company and that is a problem. The new company doesn't post its price and seems to raise that price without informing anyone. By anyone I mean no one. Not you, when you park. Not the hostess at the desk. Nor anyone else in the restaurant. The time before last, when we parked, the price was $8.00. A relatively standard price in Hollywood and they had a sign listing the price. This last time there was no sign. My friends and I parked our cars expecting to pay $8.00. When we retrieved those cars the price had increased to $10.00 and noone in the restaurant knew anything. So, park somewhere else if you eat here."

  • "Food is average, service is great but you won't be able to hear the person across from you because the place is pumping music like a nightclub. Overall a good experience for a group looking to get crazy not one looking to have a good conversation."

  • "This great neighborhood gem is everything you'd hope it would be. I have a fairly discerning palate when it comes to the restaurant business, having owned and operated one on the east coast for many years. This place pays attention to detail, and it shows!"

  • "Decline because first time here was excellent, but this time brought companions and food was good but not great. Everyone is entitled to an "off night.""

  • "It was very loud... FYI, the 2 seater table in between the 2 big group tables is like a little car in between two semi's. Food was good. Service was great. Just. Too. Loud."

  • "If you want true Southern Italian tastes, Aventine is the place to eat. Warm and inviting, with great ambience and a friendly wait staff the evening went smoothly. Besides the warm welcome we got, two things added to delight we had in the restaurant. One, when we asked for extra anchovies they brought white ones. A bit of a surprise since we usually get the skinned overly oiled kind with that request. Then, they had a Borolo by the glass to go with the Osso Bucco which was served on a polenta bed. Moist, firm polenta with a delicate taste which melded well with the subtle spices of the Osso Bucco. Go, eat, enjoy."

  • "A truly exquisite experience. Handsome indoor dining area and wonderful open air patio in back w/ another bar, trees and decorative lighting. Terrific Italian cuisine, all pasta made on site; both entrees and appetizers were delicious (the appetizer meatball is not to be missed). Service was very friendly and timely. A really great place to dine and enjoy outdoor LA."

  • "We came here before the Pantages, and ate on the outdoor patio. The food was delicious. I had the grilled mushrooms and the lasagna, my wife had a salad and osso buco. The wine list is interesting and reasonably priced. Service was attentive and friendly. Highly recommended"
