  • "It started out poorly when we arrived for our reservation and they didn't have a window table, per our request. I understand that requests are subject to availability but they were not busy and it was handled in a clumsy way. They tried to make up for it, but that was also handled oddly. Anyway, the food was overly salty and we ate what we could and quickly left. You might want to confirm what's on the menu because they seem to have listed one thing, but provide another."

  • "We had our anniversary dinner at the Avalon Grille. It was wonderful. Great table, very good food. I had the Clam Chowder, it was very good. My bride had the Halibut. Great warm sourdough bread and excellent deserts."

  • "Clam chowder was excellent. We asked for the buffalo burger to be prepared however the chef recommended, and it came out dry and well done. Fish sandwich was disappointing also. The bar is very nice here, and its probably a great place for happy hour. We would go back and order something different, perhaps a salad or grilled fish."

  • "My mother and I went to Avalon Grille while staying on the island. The decor and view are lovely, but the good stopped there. We first had an awkward mixup with our server causing us to wait exceptionally long just for our water. The bread was indelibly chewy/stale. Our appetizer and my salad came out together, and the plates were not cleared when someone delivered our entrees. We were holding plates up in the air so the food could be set down. The food itself was very bland; I had the lobster mac 'n cheese and my mother had the trout special. My mom's first bite was a fork full of bones! Overall a very lackluster and unpleasant experience. With such a high price point, we expected a LOT better service and food quality. Do NOT recommend."

  • "We had eaten here a little over a year ago and were very pleased. This time we were very disappointed. My food was okay but not great. Chowder was good. Caesar salad with shrimp was average. Brussels sprout Appetizer was very good. My wife had to send her blue cheese Martini and ciopino back. They used the wrong olives in the dirty martini. Rather than brine the olives were in oil and oil does not make a good dirty martini. The ciopino fish was undercooked but the salt was way way more than should have been in it. Almost a gagging level of salt. We were given a free desert to compensate and the flour less chocolate cake and cheesecake just tasted funny and we finished neither."

  • "It was a great experience: a lovely setting near the window and the food was plated beautifully. My boyfriend ordered the quail and I ordered the Cioppino. He liked his quail but said that the brussel sprouts tasted like water and black pepper, no taste. Odd. The Cioppino, on the other hand, was one of the saltiest dishes I've ever tasted. It was darn-near inedible. But if you pay almost $40 for a plate, you try to "make it work". I had to eat the fish only, use the bread and alcohol to get it down/water down the saltiness..not good. I debated on the score that I should give this place because it was so lovely to look at in the crisp night air. That coupled with the very attentive service that I was given. They should revisit ingredients."

  • "We had the Valentine's Day special, Surf and Turf including soup and dessert. Very good. Upscale yet comfortable decor, friendly and efficient wait staff. Although it was a little too chilly outside, other nights I saw they had opened the glass doors looking out to the harbor. The menus was extensive and if we had time we would have gone back another night to sample from the regular menu. Would definitely go back."

  • "The wait staff don't seem to be trained on etiquette for fine dining servers (They didn't take the ladies' order first, they kept giving our used forks back when they took our salad/appetizer plates, so we could use those same forks for dinner) Other than those items, which I consider very minor and a matter of training, they were always there to serve us, keep our glasses filled, our food flowing, and they were very knowledgeable about the menu. This IS our go-to place on the island. I have been very satisfied with every bite of food on my plate for two years of visits now!"

  • "We were married on Catalina Island and chose a small destination wedding with my now husband and our children ranging in ages from 12-15. We went to Avalon Grill after we got married and played a round of miniature golf. We had our wedding attire and a special table where we sat that was a bit more private. We had plenty to choose from and we were all happy. I especially loved the pasta! We had a cake special ordered and we were served it at The Avalon Grill as well.... The service, food, ambience, all...very special for our very special occasion and we want to thank you Avalon Grill!"

  • "This is a nice, quiet (a rare find) restaurant. Our server was kind and attentive. The person at the bar was rather unwelcoming, and didn't show much interest or warmth about our questions about Catalina. It was our first visit to the island. The food was well presented, but on the cool side and not very well seasoned. We had a nice table with a nice view of the harbor."

  • "Two thumbs up! Fantastic location, right on the street facing the gorgeous Avalon Bay. Can't ask for anything more when you are visiting Catalina. The interior of the restaurant is very cool and sophisticated, in the tradition of something like converting a bank or library to a restaurant. We were there for lunch on our day in Catalina, and it was mid-week so it wasn't busy. I can't speak to the height of summer tourist traffic because it was November. Nonetheless, the weather is beautiful and our experience was wonderful. We ordered a fancy burger and sandwich, and they were excellent. They add a side of fried green beans for $2, and this is WELL worth it. mmm mmm. Side orders of fries or green beans are huge. It was a fun lunch!"

The food was outstanding, and we are food snobs. More of a Soho look than a cozy place, but again, the food was amazing. So glad we dined there."

  • "Two of four diners ordered the abalone chef special. Upon arrival, we were already disappointed: the dish did not correspond to the menu description plus - based on portion size- should have been listed under appetizer. It had been listed as MP (market price). We did not inquire the MP before ordering and would have paid whatever to get what the menu described. Our very polite and considerate server offered to send it back and provide something else. We accepted and ordered something more in keeping with a dinner entree. The unfortunate server delivered two messages from the kitchen that did not enhance our dining experience."
