Diner Reviews
  • "We recommend the carrot soup and the chocolate cannolis."

  • "We always enjoy eating at ASTI. The menu is good and the food is very good. The wine is good but a little pricy. The service is always prompt and friendly."

  • "My first time at this wonderful restaurant, but it will now go on my very short list of favorites! Outstanding service, delicious food, varieties of wines from which to choose, and a terrific neighborhood vibe that makes you feel comfortable in asking the table next to you what entree they liked the most. Excellent job, Asti!"

  • "The pork chops are cooked to perfection. Most places overcook pork, but Asti continually delivers properly prepared pork."

  • "Along with another couple, we wanted to find a restaurant in Austin that none of us had ever been to. From our 1st encounter with our waiter, Jared, til saying our good-byes to Emmet, the owner, it was one of the best dining experience that the 4 of us had had--either collectively or individually--in the Austin area, from food trailers to the super expensive. The food was amazingly tasty and since half portions are available, there was quite a smorgasbord at the table. The selection of sides was what I went for, since I tend to like the veggies. The roasted cabbage was very unique--kind of spicy--and exceptional. Oh, and the appetizers! The mussels and the bruschetta-yum! Cute, eclectic Austin Italian restaurant. Can't wait to go back!"

  • "the food was excellent, with substantial portions, the waitstaff was friendly, helpful, but not hovering, the owner came by to check on our meal experience... had a great time with out of town friends! glad to show off this austin treasure!"

  • "i've been dining there ever since they opened. the food is sometimes excellent, sometimes not so good, mainly too much salt and a little too oily. i go back there mainly out of habit and because i like the decor and the ambience. the last dinner i had was really salty although i asked specifically not to salt too much. the service is usually good, though i've had a really bad experience a few times."

  • "Food is amazing. Bring back lemonsemifredo and caprese salad"

  • "Seafood dishes are full of flavor and the staff is very knowledgeable about wine pairings with dinner."

  • "For starters muscles and bread sticks. The bread sticks here are addictive. The muscles very flavorful - tomatoes, garlic, herbs, a touch of burn, and crusty grilled bread. Our pasta course, capellini with sausage. For dinner the rainbow trout. It was melt-in-your-mouth with the skin crisp.Served over sauteed green beans. A spoonful of a delightful mixture, then paper thin slices of radish topped the dish. We two were sharing each of our dishes. We even split the half order capellini. The wait staff didn't bat an eye at our requests and served us beautifully. Oh, dessert! Do not miss the Affogato - three piping hot little sugar covered donuts served beside a small bowl of vanilla ice cream onto which is poured hot espresso. Oh, yeah."

  • "We really enjoyed our experience! The food was unique and delicious and the servers were exceptionally friendly and helpful. I will say it was not the very best food I ever had-but we still had a great meal that was very tasty. The only other criticism I have is that the tables were very close together so as it got crowded it was not the place for a private conversation. But it certainly wasn't so loud that we couldn't talk. Overall I give it 4 stars! We thoroughly enjoyed our experience!"

  • "Asti gave us a great date night on a very stormy night. The atmosphere is always spirited and yet still cozy and romantic. Our server was friendly as well as attentive and gave us good advice with our food questions. My rigatoni completely met my desire for a good Italian pasta with red sauce (Amatriciana, if I am recalling the name correctly), and they took my request for a little less sauce to heart and it worked out just right. My husbands pork chop which was on the specials menu was divine and served with a side of rice wrapped in cabbage which was unique and very delicious. Our Caesar salad is always pleasing and the bread was heavenly, drenched in a light oil and fresh."

  • "We needed a great food location before our performance at Wicked. We had soup, salads, pasta, flatbreads. Everything was thoughtfully prepared with great flavor pairings. Each member of our party of five was impressed! I loved the Brussel sprout salad. We got to our Friday evening performance with time to spare! Will dine there again soon!"

  • "Will definitely return - one of the better meals we have had in Austin a long time!"

  • "My wife and I have been dining at ASTI for a long time now and we have been quite pleased with our experience on each occasion. On this trip, the food was quite good and we tried some new dishes; the menu has been expanded and updated a bit since our previous visit. My pork chop entree was a little overcooked, but it was still delicious. Our server was great and very helpful and the whole meal was relaxing and very satisfying."

  • "My girlfriend & I found this little gem late one night when we hadn't planned our evening very well. We went expecting a typical Italian menu, but instead what we found was a strange, but very interesting twist on the typical. I highly recommend going at least once & giving Asti a try to see if it would be a good fit."

  • "The restaurant is stylish and understated, low-lit and quiet. For our late Valentine's dinner, the ambience was just right. Our server was attentive and enthusiastic, and we very much enjoyed the food we had (fettucine nero, and pizza with pear and gorgonzola), and the magnificent desserts (bittersweet chocolate cannoli, and affogato). Asti's richly deserves its excellent reputation."

  • "Loved this neighborhood eatery, though I suspect others like us do not live in the 'hood but wanted to check it out or have returned. Friendly greeter and attentive wait staff. Food was delicious, reasonably priced. I like Italian food on the simple side, so I got the capellini with tomatoes, garlic and fresh basil. Wonderful. Enjoyed the salad with apples and gorgonzola. Focaccia bread tasty. My husband liked his salmon and the pairings, including the cannellini beans. The wine (sangiovese) was fairly light, very suited to our meal. We will be back!"

  • "Wonderful spot in north central Austin. Pasta choices are very good. Lunch specials are top value. Good wine list. Friendly service is excellent."
    Dined on 2/13/2014
  • "We wanted something moderately casual, but upscale servivce, and Asti delivered! I asked for a separate table in my reservation, and that's what we got. Service was outstanding! And don't miss the fried brussels sprouts salad - unbelievable! (and I don't even like brussels sprouts!) But the goat cheese dressing makes it amazing! Besides the salad, we sampled the antipasti and appetizers and had a couple of glasses of wine, and it was perfect. Never felt rushed, just a nice relaxing evening."

  • "I love going to Asti with good friends, being able to hear, eating from the good menu, never feeling rushed. There are some new dishes on the menu. It's a comfortable, up-to-date restaurant without being trendy."

  • "unbelievable service, neighborhood staple and perfect for groups, families or first dates"

  • "The food & service at his neighborhood favorite are excellent. The entrees are predominately pasta, but there are some other specials. Service was enthusiastic & helpful. They also served me the perfect cup of cappuccino after! Quality is important to this restaurant!"

  • "Asti did not disappoint! The serice was seamless, friendly and precise; from the wine list, a very nice Nebbiolo - Cesar salad, seafood risotto, to desserts- chocolate cannolis, ricotta creme brûlée- could not have been better."

  • "This is one of our neighborhood favorites, and it never disappoints. The wine list isn't huge but has great selections, and the food is always on point."

  • "My boyfriend and I live close by and have always wanted to try Asti and thought it would be perfect for our anniversary dinner. I made our reservation via Open Table and in the comments section I mentioned we were going for our anniversary. The waitress greeted us with a warm congratulations and even offered us dessert! What a special treat! The service, food and ambiance was perfect for our romantic even. Thanks so much, Asti!"

  • "Long story short. Dined with party of four. Everyone appeared to like their dish. My chicken piccata was way over cooked. Tough as nails around the edges. I didn't give the kitchen an opportunity to fix the problem. I should have, but I didn't want the conversation to be about my piccata the rest of the evening. It's frustrating when you go to a restaurant of this caliber and you feel like you spent your money on fast food. I hope that my experience was an isolated oversight, because ASTI is a charming neighborhood restaurant."

  • "The Brussels sprouts salad has some really interesting flavor combinations. Had the duck cacciatore for a main and it was top notch as well."

  • "We had 13 women meet for dinner and the service from reservation through separate checks was stellar.-friendly, efficient, cooperative. I've eaten at Asti when I thought the food was truly inspired. This time, with 13 of us I heard that it was good, not great and spotty. I've ordered the trout in the past and was very pleased and the person who ordered trout was similarly pleased. Others liked their food; I don't think anyone disliked their dish--just not wowed. I loved the idea of ordering all 5 side dishes as an entree, and one person did they.. They loved the polenta, someone else ordered it and didn't care for it. All liked the brussels sprouts, but the cauliflower dish was underwhelming."
