Best Restaurants in South Waterfront
We dined at Aquariva over the
weekend of the fourth. We chose this restaurant because of the outdoor patio with a great view of the Willamette. The patio view is the best thing this restaurant has to offer. The service was good, the drinks were decent, but we didn't like much of anything else we tried. The brisket was overdone and fatty and the mashed potatoes were so salty as to render them almost inedible. It seems like the food has gone downhill since we first tried the restaurant four years ago. I might go back for the patio, but I'll stick with something small, like drinks and appetizers. For the price, we would have expected better food."

Classy (not trendy), great view of
river, attentive service"

Enjoyed dinner one evening and
brunch teh next morning. Service was fantastic and food fabulous. Love dinning here when staying at Rivers Edge Hotel and Spa."

We left before ordering. It felt
like a 1985 cafeteria. Terrible ambiance."
Dined on 6/20/2014
Had a business lunch there and
requested seating with a view yet somewhat quiet and the hostess placed us in a room set for 8 which was perfect for our group! Couldn't be happier with the venue! Food and service was great. Thank you!!"

Enjoyed a lovely after wedding
breakfast with 10 family members. It was a perfect place to enjoy the river scenery and catch up with family members without feeling rushed. The food was great. It was very relaxing."

Our relatives stay in the Hotel
connected to restaurant, so it's convenient and easy, but the food is average at best. The best thing we had were the fries. Duck was overcooked, carrots undercooked....and the tables are too high for the chairs which made it difficult for my mother in law to see and cut what was in her bowl/dish. The food took a long time to arrive as well. "
Dined on 6/3/2014
We went there as a party of nine
to celebrate a graduation for brunch. Setting is beautiful with excellent river view. Brunch menu cold have been more elaborate but the food was very good. Service was super friendly but rather slow and some had to wait 10 minutes or longer to get their orders after others were served. "

A surprising treat for a hotel
associated restaurant. "

Great view, good service, lovely
food and boneyard beer on tap. Fantastic! Kids ran down on walkway while waiting for dinner. Great night with friends. Weirdly quiet"

Each time I visit it just keeps
getting better! Our waiter made the celebration all the more special!"

great spot to grab a glass of wine
and some dinner. "

Tucked away, right along the
Willamette, this modern restaurant was welcoming in its tree lined setting. The service was excellent and attentive. The food was great with options for both meat lovers and vegetarians. Will definitely return when the weather warms to try the patio seating although the inside seating was comfortable and scenic as well."

Nice selection of option on the
menu for Mother's Day brunch"
Dined on 5/11/2014
Looked for a quiet place for
Mother's Day brunch and this was perfect. Able to sit outside, watch the river, and have a lovely meal outside in a warm breeze. "

the service is always so good and
the food delicious!"

Hazelnut encrusted French toast
with cherry sauce is about as good as it gets!"

This hidden gem along the
Willamette River is lovely anytime but even more special on a beautiful sunny day like we had this week. Our server was outstanding, as was the food. Lots of veggie offerings and not the same old stuff. Highly recommend this restaurant."
Dined on 4/29/2014
We dined with friends and were
happy with our food selections, though would have liked more choices...one chicken dish, brisket, veggie polenta entre and halibut, all delicious. We brought one bottle of wine happy to pay a $15 corkage fee, then bought a special second bottle, which pushed our tab up to nearly $200 with tip, and that was with no dessert or other beverages. Ambiance by the river with lighted boats sailing by could not have been better for this special evening, and service was just right."
Dined on 4/26/2014
First time there so not sure if it
was an off day for the food but the two different brunch choices my daughter and I had were both bland. Hardly any flavor at all. The atmosphere was good and so was the service- the food just wasn't flavorful. It wasn't terrible just not satisfactory. Nice place though."

We had a very nice brunch at
Aquariva. Service was great and prices were very reasonable. My only suggestion is changing the wedge salad. It was pretty underwhelming."
Dined on 4/20/2014
the view is nice; the service was
great; the food was very average. We had gone 2 years ago for Mother's Day and had a much better experience. "

We had a wonderful experience with
a 90th birthday party for my mother-in-law. It was secluded without ruining the view. The staff was very accommodating regarding the wheelchair, and our bringing in the dessert the Lady of Honor requested. The food was excellent and the staff anticipated our every need. Highly recommend Aquariva."

Waterfront views while dining are
my favorite (inside or out). This place is nice for the view. Service was friendly and professional. The menu had a number of dishes that were out of the ordinary and little expensive. I had the rainbow trout. It was a nice little 8-inch fish on a bed of about 6 brussel sprout halves (a little skimpy, but delightful for a lighter fare). My friend had the schnitzel which was tasty, lots of food for the money on this dish."
Dined on 4/11/2014
Service and dinner poor. The only
thing great was the view of the river in front of us. Valet Parking Only. No parking on your own - no room!!!Expense for the food that was served (March 3-Course Meal Month). Shank/ polenta extremely bland; they had kale salad first course and main course with side of kale - come on! Bread pudding was one piece of bread soaked in syrup - seriously. Had waiter bringing glass of wine and three others serving out dishes. The only thing quick was the check. No salt and pepper on table and they took away knives before main meal arrived. Had to ask for knife - different server had to assist A room with a view - the only positive thing we had."

Everytime I visit this restaurant
my meal is spectacular. It provides a wonderful array of healthy food options and I never feel like I'm left with being limited to one thing to choose from on the menu. Wait staff is always courteous."
Dined on 3/18/2014
The food was beyond delicious.
Beautiful presentation and a total treat to the taste-buds. This restaurant faces the river and we had a window seat to enjoy the evening views. I had a kale salad with the most delicious dressing and the pork shank was to die for. My wife had a hamburger and raved about how much she enjoyed it, A wonderful dining experience."
Dined on 3/14/2014
The menu was surprisingly good, my
fish dish was very fresh and well prepared. The drinks from the bar were watery and uninspired, especially considering the many great options in Portland. The service was far from ideal and the only real disappointment of the evening. Our waiter was timely but lacked any skill beyond getting the food from the kitchen to the table. He was sloppy with presentation and didn't know the menu well. We also noticed a large disparity between how he handled each table. Almost every table has an amazing view of the river and multi-level patios for enjoying the summer. The food and view make the lack-luster service almost tolerable."
Dined on 3/15/2014
Service at a very deliberate pace.
An hour and fifteen minutes for just two courses. Trout was overcooked. Unfortunate as we remembered this as a better restaurant."
Dined on 3/6/2014
They serve better eggs benedict at
Shari's. Here are my problems with the eggs benedict I had at Aquariva: "Smoked" pork was dry, bland, and devoid of flavor (or seasoning). Poached eggs were overcooked with no runny yoke, may as well have been hard boiled. "Brown butter hollandaise" is flavorless, no tang. I would never eat here unless I was staying at the hotel and feeling too lazy to go somewhere else. It's sad really. Such a nice location deserves better food. If the execution of the current menu was better, it would be worth the prices asked for dishes. As it is though, I would avoid this place."

The Mussels we had for appetizer
were cooked perfectly. I loved the wedge salad, so tasty, and the lamb chops, although we did ask for them rare were closer to raw. They were still delicious and we gobbled them up. I loved our server in the bar while we waited for our table but we felt almost like we were annoying our server at dinner every time we asked a question. She seemed disinterested in us, the food, her job, not sure which or all of the above. I am sure it was a busy night as it was Valentine's Day and our reservations were for 8:30, maybe she had just had a bad night. We still managed to have a great time, but for the almost $200.00 we spent for the two of us we think we can do better somewhere else."
Dined on 2/14/2014
Food was bland. Service was
horrible. All we could do is laugh at ourselves for choosing such a poor restaurant. Too bad because it has a great location."

We had a birthday brunch there.
Great view of the river and service was great."

We celebrated our twin Grand
Daughter's 13 birthday at a Sunday Brunch and they greeted us by name at the door, said Happy Birthday by name to the girls upon arrival, had a special table for us with a great river view and private curtains and even a gift table...wow...our waitress happens to have twin girls as well who are 3 1/2, what attention to everything...really memorable. Menu items for every interest and age."

The view from our window seat
would have enchanted any meal. As it was, our food stood on its own merit. The staff had noted it was a birthday lunch and went out of their way to make it a special occasion. My friend , a vegetarian, was disappointed that the kitchen had run out of veggie burgers. However, a grain/veggie salad was a tasty and filling replacement. I had a turkey sandwich that was so generously portioned, I was able to save half for dinner. The kitchen readily accommodated my need for a softer bread than the artisan bread it came on. To compensate for having run out of veggie burgers, my friend was presented with her choice of a complimentary dessert and upon request a rendition of happy birthday by our waiter. A relaxing day."

Not only was the food and service
great, but my coat was accidentally given to another diner and the manager spent 2 days working to find the person and get my coat back. Oddly enough both coats were black Calvin Klein full length wool and both size 8. Apparently the husband collected what he thought was his wife's coat. At any rate, I was in from Denver and most certainly wanted my expensive coat back. The manager, Scott, went even further in loaning me a coat until he could recover mine. Scott in fact drove to the other diner's home (luckily they were local) and got my coat back. It was an interesting experience to say the least, but it did not overshadow the fact that the food and service were great! Try Aquariva when in Portland!"
