Aperto is a small neighborhood Italian restaurant right in the heart of San Francisco's Potrero Hill. We are dedicated to serving the best seasonal, local and organic products that we can find and we feature Fulton Valley Poultry, organic pork & lamb, local and wild caught fish. We take great pride in our food our service and our wines. Our menu changes with the season and we also offer great daily specials on our blackboard. We offer over 16 wines by the glass, as well as full and half bottle selections of domestic and Italian varietals. During the warmer times of the year we have an outside seating area where you can soak up the sun and take in the beautiful views of the city.

Looking forward to seeing you soon!

Diner Reviews
  • "Aperto food is consistently like a short round-trip to Italia. Hand-made burrata appetizer with stone fruit - always pleasing. Pork belly melts in your mouth - fantastico! and the pasta is fresh and tasty - tagliolini, risotto, and more. We send all our visiting friends there, and always a high grade."

  • "I have been going to Aperto for over fifteen years. I have never had anything I didn't love and everyone I bring there is delighted. I have had many special event evenings there and numerous exquisite lunches."

  • "We really enjoyed a delicious Italian dinner. The pastas were awesome and the appetizers were better then expected. We will most definitely come back. Very budget friendly and super delcious."

  • "Longtime clients, always loves this place, but seemed to be off this time. We always take special out of town guests here. Sign on door "Help Wanted" might have been a clue. Maître D was not friendly, seemed a bit grumpy when we asked to have window shade lowered. All of us had hard time understanding waiter explaining specials. Waiter did not remember who ordered what (party of 4!) We are/were greatly disappointed and sad to lose a great place."

  • "What a great neighborhood find. Chris (the GM) and his staff were fantastic! The ambiance was perfect but the food stood out and was pretty amazing. We started with the mussels were plentiful with a nice broth with pancetta bread for dipping, yummy. Both the veal and the chicken were well portioned and simply AMAZING. We ended with a chocolate lava cake and cream. Yum, Yum! We will definitely go back."

  • "Every bite of every dish is worthy of praise. My friends and I each ordered the fixed price lunch, choosing a total of 9 different dishes, including an ala carte appetizer of the burrata cheese, accompanied by a special pesto spread and their delicious bread. We loved the risotto with squash blossoms, the short rib sandwich (gosh, can't remember if it was short ribs or another delicious shredded beef), the bruschetta which was far from ordinary in its flavors. We can't wait to return. Very unassuming place, but very special"

  • "It is hard to rate because I was just looking at my date the whole time. It was our first meeting. It was so funny because the server kept coming over to put cutlery away near our table and we would stop talking. Then the server made a joke by putting the last fork in really slowly. I have such a delightful memory from this date that Aperto is always gonna be special. Always. Thanks, Aperto!!!!"

  • "Amazing food. Great little neighborhood gem. Pasta was unbelievable. Just don't want it to get any busier :-). So so delicious "

  • "I am a longtime Aperto customer and fan. I feel so fortunate that I have this gem within walking distance. I dine there regularly: brunch, lunch and dinner. I must comment on my most recent meal which was just outstanding, from the start to finish. This time, I selected all items from the specials of the day and I was thrilled with each: Broccoli di cicco, incredible (and huge) pork chop with escarole and butter beans, and the amazing apricot upside down cake for dessert. It was a masterpiece. And so reasonable. The service at Aperto remains low key, professional and very personable. They do a great job selecting their staff. This place is wonderful for routine dinners and special occasions. Try it!"

  • "Food was great, service was impeccable, restaurant was clean and inviting. Would go back again as all in my party agreed and it was our first time eating there. Great neighborhood spot and street parking was easy and free a plus for SF."

  • "We lunched a few days ago at Aperto. It was a thoroughly enjoyable experience. The service was first rate, casual, friendly and well-informed. The food was inventive and excellent. My guest and I shared a soup of pork belly and lentils; each of us had a decent portion and the soup was perfectly prepared. Then I had a similarly perfect pasta dish followed by a gelato sundae with chocolate and caramel sauces and "hot nuts". Everything equaled restaurants of twice the price, but without the pretense. I also had a glass of red wine from the Puglia, a steal at $9 per generous glass. This is a great spot for lunch and probably also for dinner. I think its food is unusual, skillfully prepared and served at affordable prices. "

  • "I enjoyed a delicious Sunday brunch here with friends. This was the first time I have ever had a veggie frittata that wasn't cooked hard all the way through – this one had a wonderful silky, "custardy," quality, probably because of the excellent eggs, and delicate flavors. The server was friendly and unobtrusive, and the space was pleasant. Definitely a keeper!"

  • "I really enjoyed my first encounter with Apierto many years ago. It is located at Potrero Hill, and I had totally forgotten about it. The food is very good and the prices are modest for the quality. It is located on an attractive stretch of 18th Street that has wall to wall restaurants. Strongly recommended! "

  • "I loved the pork loin special. My sister got the dish they say never leaves the menu despite seasonal changes, the tagliarini. My dish was full of flavor, and my sister's was perfectly spicy. The bread was good, the sausage app was tasty, and the moscato went down nicely. The server was friendly, fun, and knowledgeable, and he brought my sister a scoop of gelato with a candle for her birthday. All in all, an excellent dinner. I'll be back!"

  • "Aperto is a neighborhood-y little spot that really impressed us with their variety of fresh, delicious pasta dishes. We sampled so many that we didn't even make it to the mains, which means we'll have to head back their way to delve a little deeper!"

  • "Aperto is our go-to neighborhood restaurant for anything above a quick bite. The food, service, wine selection is usually outstanding, and we've never really had a bad meal. This time was a weird reverse of every other visit we've had there. Service was very perfunctory...the waitress seemed distracted, not paying attention, and hopeful we'd eat and leave (that was the impression we got, anyways). I ordered the Chicken sandwich; came with artichokes, but artichokes full of inedible leaves so I couldn't eat them. The salad was more than half frisee, which was wilted and bitter. We had to ask twice for water refills, and overall, just not the relaxing enjoyable meal we are so used to having at our wonderful neighborhood restaurant."

  • "I go sometimes by myself and sit at the counter, sometimes with friends (including Italians), sometimes with my family. The menu is seasonal, excellent pastas, friendly service. Always lively, even at 10 pm on a Tuesday night."

  • "Aperto is a small, very friendly, neighborhood restaurant with carefully crafted food showcasing seasonal elements. The wine list is full of reasonably priced options and the staff is pleasant, skilled, attentive, able to make intelligent food and wine recommendations, but in no way intrusive. Prices are very moderate for the quality of the food. It is my 'go-to' restaurant for out of town company and friends. The only problem in writing a good review is that it will become harder to get a table!!"

  • "Out of town guests always like to join us at Aperto. The ambiance, food and staff are lovely. On our last visit, we requested and got the window booth. Service was not the greatest. Our server was nice, but a little spacey and at first, we thought she was rushing us. After a while we realized she was just over-eager to please. Two of us had pasta (wonderful) and the guys had the pork chop (enormous, but they both finished the plate). Nice and reasonable wine list."

  • "One of my favorite restaurants in San Francisco. Small, warm, comfortable. Delicious home-made pastas and bread. The food is always wonderful. A real gem."

  • "Second visit - better this time out. The fennel salad was good; fresh ingredients and the vinaigrette wasn't overwhelming. The roasted chicken was actually moist and hot - not warm or room temperature, but hot. It also had good flavor. My companion had the short ribs and judged them as OK (they didn't fall of the bone and he thought the taste was just OK). Service was spotty, but the more irritating aspect is the tightness of the space. I'm fine with small places, but not when the tables are on top of each and you can easily hear (or participate) in the conversation next to you. This night the place was very crowded, hot, and loud. It's one of those (too) energetic neighborhood places which will prevent me from returning any time soon."

  • "The pasta w/ jalapenos and bacon was pretty amazing. Our waiter was very attentive and provided good recs based on our questions. The only negative was that the tables were a bit cramped and it was a little noisy. Otherwise, good stuff."
