A word from Amen Street Fish + Raw Bar
Amen Street Fish & Raw Bar opened in 2009, reviving the former Amen name of Cumberland Street and restoring this historic corner. The new renovation stays true to the beauty of the original 1800's architecture while creating a comfortable atmosphere for contemporary life.

Located at 205 East Bay Street in the heart of the historic district this Charleston seafood restaurant offers both indoor and outdoor dining all within walking distance of the local Market and the Charleston Harbor.

The menu includes a variety of seafood dishes such as oysters, clams and shrimp in addition to an ever growing raw bar menu. Amen Street supports Charleston's local fishing industry with market fresh fish.

We are open for lunch and dinner. Walk-ins are welcome and reservations are accepted as well.

Diner Reviews
  • "Absolutely the best- tasting crab soup we've ever had. The oysters on the half shell were outstanding too!! A Must if you visit Charleston. We can hardly wait to eat there again!!!!"

  • "although we had reservations many weeks in advance we were seated at a "row" line table of two tops, all inches apart from the next guest. this should be for walk ins only. The restaurant was not crowded. I don't care to hear every breath of the adjacent person almost at or on my table. the portions are not much on size either."

  • "The service was unremarkable and the seafood was fresh . The pan seared wreck fish was incredible."

  • "Slow in attentive service. Brought (threw down) the she crab soup to the table before drinks and taking menus. Disappointing. Extremely noisy. Great food."

  • "The shooters need help. The service was on point. I'm not dying to go back but I wouldn't not tell people to try it."

  • "We have a home in Charleston but had never been to Amen Street before. It was recommended by a friend of mine. I think that we probably passed on it because it is right in the middle of the tourist area, but we were very pleasantly surprised. First of all, the interior is well done and the food was very good. We had the oysters on the half shell and the fried oysters as appetizers. The raw oysters were a little small but probably because of the time of year. The fried oysters were delicious. The breading was very light and crispy. Finally, we had the grouper with fried okra and hoppin john for our main course and it was really excellent. We will be back."

  • "This was our first visit to the Amen Street Fish + Raw Bar. It was a wonderful experience. The food was delicious, our server was fantastic, and the ambience was fun. I have been raving about it all day. Unfortunately, we are now living in Charlotte, but if this restaurant was closer, we would be definitely be back!"

  • "We were in Charleston for 4 days- and on the last night we tried AMEN - thank Goodness. Best Meal entire trip - other lots of great places but this one beat the rest over the other highly recommended spots. Had baked oysters to die for- then grouper blackened and spouse had lobster/shrimp risotto. all excellent and had fun talking and sharing our food orderings with other patrons. Lots of fun but great food and service to add to that. THANKS"

  • "Wife had shrimp & crab crabcake. To much bread; and potatoes were cold. I had oysters/shell and peel shrimp. Very good. Service was mediocre, but check came quick. To much noise."

  • "This was our first time dining at Amen St. My wife and I had such a lovely evening. The food, service and setting was perfect for a night out with our children at home with the babysitter! We will definitely be back..."

  • "Quick service on a Friday night is hard to find in Charleston. We were really impressed by the food selection and impressive service."

  • "Great service in this seafood restaurant with variety of oysters and fresh fish specials. The restaurant was very busy but still got us out in time for our concert. Lots of activity at the bar, and a bit loud but very friendly. Easy, no-nonsense restaurant with very good food."

  • "Excellent food and service. Seafood fresh and delicious."

  • "Amen rocks! I had the most absolute best Bloody Mary ever! My fish was amazing and light, such great flavors! The the interior of this place is fantastic as most hot restaurants are in charleston ;) and the price won't kill the wallet for the quality you receive! Love it and will defiantly go back even if it's just for a quick Bloody Mary at the bar."
    Dined on 7/4/2014
  • "A new favorite in charleston! The service was a little slow but I think our waitress had a larger section than average. The wait allowed us time to catch up with our guests, though. Enjoyed everything we ordered."

  • "In a city full of all kinds of food and restaurants, Amen Street did NOT disappoint. And because it is right in the middle of all the cruise line crowds, we were a bit hesitant to go....but we were really really surprised . Great selection of seafood, drinks were perfect, noise level wasn't too loud that we couldn't hear each other talk (even with the FIFA games on the tv), it was just a great experience!"

  • "I visited Amen Street more than a year ago and was completely sold so i made it a must for my recent trip to charleston! The service was great, but the meal was sub-par due to lack of flavor and seasoning and Amen Street is probably off my 'must' list for my next trip to Charleston - a city with many fantastic food options with better flavors!"

  • "This was a great seafood place and very easy to get to from our hotel. Even though no one in our party like oysters, we easily found many great items to choose from on the menu."

  • "We always make sure Amen is on the list when we are in town. Always great food, drinks and service!"

  • "A table was ready for us when we arrived so that was good. Unfortunately, we were sat in the back of the restaurant against the wall. The entire back wall was a bench seat, 5 tables of 2 people were set against this wall with a chair pulled up on the opposite side. It was so crowded in between these 5 tables that you could barely get in to get to the bench seat. We could not even carry on a conversation at our own table because the tables on each side were so close and those people were talking so loud. The person at the table beside us had to get up to go to the restroom was knocking things off our table and his. The food was disappointing as well. My dinner portion shrimp and grits was smaller than an appetizer size and too salty."
    Dined on 6/27/2014
  • "We enjoyed the food; the restaurant is loud which made it difficult to have a conversation. I would recommend but the prices in the restaurant are very different than those on their website. When I look at the prices on the dinner menu they are really very very reasonable ie 14.95 for shrimp and grits, at the restaurant it is really 21.95. Basically all of the meals are between $20 and $30 versus the $10 to $15 on the website. I understand the prices I just wish there website was accurate it would have influenced my decision"

  • "Shrimp and Grits were excellent. My wife said the Po Boy Shrimp was one of the best meals of her trip in Charleston! Service was quick and friendly."
    Dined on 6/18/2014
  • "We were in town for only one night and saw this great place and made reservations. I had seen on the menu the tuna tacos and just had to have them! Had the dozen oysters to start we shared, they were a little pricey but were good! the desert was wonderful! Would recommend for sure to anyone in Charleston, fun cute place to hang looked like many locals were there too!"

  • "With our first time there, lunch was very good. My 103 yr old mother enjoyed herself very much so. We wished that dinner could have been served earlier, or had the choice of either, so we could really enjoy ourselves. The portions we ate filled us all, with no room for dessert. Our waitress was very helpful and courteous, and was not too far from our beckoned call. We shall return."
    Dined on 6/15/2014
  • "The food was amazing but the seating in the back of the restaurant leaves a lot to be desired. You are seated right next to the other tables and it is very difficult to have a conversation."
    Dined on 6/13/2014
  • "Outstanding service. Lively atmosphere. Seated promptly at reserved time. The fish was excellent-- had the wreck fish. The warm hush puppies with local honey are a must."

  • "Amen Street has to be our favorite establishment in Charleston, as we make sure to eat there at least once during our annual trips. Their lobster risotto is to die for, as are their mussels and baked oysters. Amen Street has a variety of oysters from all of the different coasts. The wine and cocktail lists will not disappoint either!"

  • "I've been to Amen Street numerous times and the meal has always been on point! Services is prompt, staff is very knowledgeable about all the types of oysters they have. Food is delicious!! I have to say though, I had never had a blood mary from Amen until last night and it will probably be the only thing i will drink from now on!! Sooo delicious with their house made bloody mary mix! I loved it! We sat in the back of the restaurant (table for two) and chatted with our neighbors on either side of us! Makes for an interesting meal to say the least. I love Amen Street and as a concierge downtown, I always send my guests here. They always love it just as I do. I will be back again soon of course!"

  • "Nothing exceptional about this restaurant. Food so-so. Atmosphere OK. Service so-so. They seem to imitate the upper scale establishments but without success."

  • "Amen was delicious. Food was great, and fresh, excellent drink choices as well. Definitely worth eating here when visiting Charleston, and reasonably priced for Charleston."

  • "We ordered the shrimp and grits and crab cakes. The crab cakes were cold and very thick with little crab. The shrimp and grits were also cold and way too sweet. The flavor was bizarre. The appetizers were good..calamari was flavorful and different. Service was Excellent but the food DID NOT match the level of service and price point. "

  • "Great appetizers and oysters. Entrees were disappointing."

  • "The oysters were fabulous! That's what we were interested in and we were not disappointed! The swordfish was sooo good! "
