Diner Reviews
  • "Ambrosia was a new restaurant for my husband and me. The food was delicious. The drink menu was eclectic and fun. There were many spicy dishes - which we LOVE - but when they say spicy, it is not mild. I am personally a huge fan of restaurants who are not afraid to be SPICY, but if you are so-so with spice, there are fewer options. We will DEFINITELY be eating here again."

  • "We found the restaurant very interesting and appealing. Great twist on asian food with fusion flare! The service was fantastic and accommodating. We are definitely going back."

  • "This place is a hidden gem of Houston. I have lived here my whole life and am sad I just found it. Will be going back often."

  • "Very well prepared, although somewhat limited menu. Service was efficient, helpful, and friendly. Decor was dark and could use updating."

  • "We were greeted promptly as soon as we entered and seated quickly. The menu had a great variety and the food was cooked to perfection. The perfect blend of spices and ingredients brought out the flavors in our dishes. The staff was very friendly and our orders came out in a timely fashion. Drinks and dessert were great too....we'll be coming back!"

  • "The food was alright. We had the chicken samosa which was good but what fried food isn't good? Also had the Korean ribs which was tough, the Prawns was very over powering with a hundred flavors, there was 4 pieces to the order which we didn't even care to finish. The Brussel sprouts was delicious but I really don't think you can go wrong with Brussel sprouts, and last was the mushroom flat bread which was also good. This was my second time here and I felt that I should give it a second chance before ruling it out completely. I definitely was disappointed and which I chose a different venue for dinner. Place is very hip and trendy and that was all it was. Don't expect to have a romantic dinner because it's very loud inside the restaurant."

  • "The menus was very eclectic with a little of many kinds of foods. Everything that we had was great. There were a couple of very tasty wines by the glass on the list as well. The atmosphere was very cool as well."

  • "We had lamb chops, mushroom flatbread, brussel sprouts, chicken curry dish and ginger flavored kulfi for dessert. A house pinot was excellent in combination. Was about right for three persons. Great food. Very noisy with mildly uncomfortable chairs. Why can't Houston figure out how to dampen restaurant noise?!! Food was good enough to warrant return."

  • "The food was good, service pleasant, a little noisy for ambiance, but prices quite high for many of the dishes. Part of the "tapas" approach are small dishes and prices should match. My eval was prices were about 30% higher than they should be for most dishes. "

  • "Using OpenTable to book our reservation of 10 was simple and easy. It was so easy that I was afraid I was going to run into some problems the night of but it all turned out great! Restaurant called to confirm my reservation. Once I got there, our table was ready, service was great, and it all made for a great night."

  • "The menu is small so please keep that in mind but...everything we had on the menu was outstanding only thing not up to par was the friend dumpling like filled with chicken...bok choy amazing, ribeye perfect, jumbo shrimp spicy good...service was good we went on a weeknight so they were always there....if going on a date sit outside in the corner nook area romantic...will def go back!!"

  • "Reservations took an hour longer than requested. And servers pretty much ignored our party all night. "

  • "We loved the tapas share concept and the food was great. The service seemed good but limited because the place was bustling with customers but there seemed to be a dearth in the number of servers/host. The place was filled with people and seemed like a very live friday night-definitely a fun atmosphere. Yet since my fiance and I preferred to have a quiet night we waited for a table in their small outdoor seating area and took that. We were glad to be sitting outside since we could have a quiet intimate meal together."

  • "The food was good, but small portions. Restaurant is very very loud and quite a "scene." The waitress kept messing up and gave us a free appetizer and dessert. Not horrible, but not an impressive experience for anyone with true discernment or sophistication."

  • "They had two sections for me and my party of twenty ready when I walked in. I had been there before and decided to have my graduation happy hour there. The waitress was really great patient and personable. The food was awesome I had both flatbreads and the steak kabobs! Drinks were awazing I had the white coconut sangria, the Saigon , and the mani vanilla shot! I'm glad I had my graduation celebration at Ambrosia ! "

  • "So we wanted to find a good place to eat but we were not looking for a full meal. This place was perfect!! My husband had the steak and said it was one of his top 3 steaks ever!! We will definitely be back!!"

  • "Went with my husband and found that the service and food were great. Everything had a great fresh taste not the taste of salt. We sat outdoors and it had a great ambiance and it was nice to see great service out there as well. Inside looked great as well but the day was too nice to waste inside. I would recommend this place to anyone. "

  • "We had never tried brunch here, but have loved all the dinners we have been to, so we gave it a shot. Ambrosia continues to amaze us. The brunch menu has a great selection of favorites from the regular menu, as well as some more "brunch-type" foods with an Asian twist. Chef Matthew is amazing and always wants feedback and what we liked and what we would like to see coming out in the future. Keep up the great work!"

  • "The waiters were friendly, but they kept changing around and did not seem to know who ordered what. They'd walk in the room, announce the food, and leave when no one responded in time. The decor and ambience was superb though. Great for late romantic dinners. Food was a bit overpriced - felt like people paid for the environment."

  • "This was the first time we have visited Ambrosia. I reserved an outside table, as Houston only has a few weeks of al fresco dining. We arrived at 7 pm and were seated quickly. The waitstaff was a pleasant and the drinks were fine. We enjoyed several plates, vegetarian Somosa's, chili tiger shrimp, mushroom flat bread, and ceviche. Everything was done well. The off dish was the ceviche, interesting deconstruction of the dish, but just didn't hit the flavor notes you would expect. Overall a nice place, and very popular with the 20's-30's year olds. One thing you must learn before you go is that the door swings out, I must have watched twenty patrons try and push the ornate door before figuring they needed to pull."

  • "I really liked the Brussel sprout dish. The service was almost too fast. My husband and I were in and out of there in no more than 30 minutes. Not much of the date night experience we 'd hoped for. We were placed at the center of a crowded room at a very tiny table. It was quite uncomfortable. I ordered a Cosmo martini, specifying that I did not want the frozen Cosmo they were offering, that I wanted the real deal. The "Cosmo" I was given was obviously a semi- thawed version of their frozen special. It was not good, I was charged over 10 bucks for it and i could not taste a drop of alcohol in it. This restaurant was not my style, but seemed popular- mostly to young twenty- something's."

  • "First time at ambrosia was perfect. Our server Tory was amazing and attentive. She even gave us free dessert because it was our first time. My husband and I agreed with her menu suggestions and we have a perfect date night!"

  • "Came for a friend's birthday dinner. Most of us saved up out appetites for the dinner and were quite disappointed. The quantity we received for the price we paid was definitely not worth it. It's supposed to be tapas style but there is barely enough for one person. The food was quite tasty but I don't think it was worth the tiny plate for that price."

  • "I took my wife here cause this was suppose to be one of the top 10 romantic restaurants in houston. In my opinion not really that romantic but the place has great ambiance, a little noisy to be romantic."

  • "I was pretty amazed by this find. I had heard about Ambrosia, but being there and tasting the food was totally awesome. Have had Tapas before, but Asian Tapas was different. The food was great tasting and the ambience was nice. You get your own niche in the crowd."

  • "I really have no complaints, I just wasn't impressed and there are plenty of other places where I would rather eat if I'm going to make a trip into town. The service was fine and the food tasted good but I guess I'm just not a fan of the tapas style eating - makes it hard to come to agreement when ordering. I would also say you don't get a whole lot for the money... I left feeling hungry which pretty much never happens when I go out to eat. The interior was not really to my liking either - just an old house converted but still felt old and not in a charming way. The very dim lighting helps to hide some of that. My overall take was just "enh.""

  • "My wife and I eat out quite a bit. We were looking for a new spot in Houston when we came across Ambrosia. The ambiance is great-- dark, chic, quaint. The drinks were a bit on the small side (for the prices). I had the frozen Cosmo. It was average. My wife had a regular Cosmo, which was decent. The food was both good and average. Great flatbread. Great Brussels sprouts. I would not recommend the ribs and the shrimp was a bit too spicy. Overall, it is worth checking out, if not for the ambiance and the flatbread alone."

  • "We decided to try Amnesia based on pictures we saw on Facebook! It truly is a neighborhood gem didn't know there was a restaurant back there, the ambiance was pleasantly unexpected we had a private room that is perfect for groups. If you like fusion this is for you."

  • "Food was full of flavor....1) the beef in the Steak & Egg dish was very tender an moist. 2) potato wedges in chicken curry was flavorful . 3) Braised short ribs....literally falls off the bones However the sauce was a little sweet. 4) My daughter loved her crab fried rice with a sunny side up . We will love to return for an evening meal to try the small plates that were not offered during the weekend brunch."

  • "This place is a nice hideaway spot if you are in the mood to do something different! The food is good; mose items on the menu are very seasoned. We especially enjoyed the garlic spinach flatbread pizza and curry potatoes. The entrees are all ala carte and made for sharing, so please don't expect to order an entree and get your belly full unless you are sharing with others."

  • "This was a Girls Night Out for 4 mommas from the 'burbs. Since we don't get out much, we spent some time looking for just the right place to have drinks and a light meal before the rodeo. The website advertised a really eclectic atmosphere, Indian inspired menu, and Happy Hour. When we arrived, we found it to be just as advertised - really cool place. The service was GREAT and the food is AMAZING. One of us gals is gluten-intolerant and there were a number of delicious dishes she could eat - so that was a huge bonus. It's a bit difficult to find from the street, but plug the address into your GPS and it will take you right there. Great patio area, too. I would absolutely recommend Ambrosia for an intimate dinner, or a stop on a night out."
