Diner Reviews
  • "This was the first time we have visited Ambrosia. I reserved an outside table, as Houston only has a few weeks of al fresco dining. We arrived at 7 pm and were seated quickly. The waitstaff was a pleasant and the drinks were fine. We enjoyed several plates, vegetarian Somosa's, chili tiger shrimp, mushroom flat bread, and ceviche. Everything was done well. The off dish was the ceviche, interesting deconstruction of the dish, but just didn't hit the flavor notes you would expect. Overall a nice place, and very popular with the 20's-30's year olds. One thing you must learn before you go is that the door swings out, I must have watched twenty patrons try and push the ornate door before figuring they needed to pull."

  • "I really liked the Brussel sprout dish. The service was almost too fast. My husband and I were in and out of there in no more than 30 minutes. Not much of the date night experience we 'd hoped for. We were placed at the center of a crowded room at a very tiny table. It was quite uncomfortable. I ordered a Cosmo martini, specifying that I did not want the frozen Cosmo they were offering, that I wanted the real deal. The "Cosmo" I was given was obviously a semi- thawed version of their frozen special. It was not good, I was charged over 10 bucks for it and i could not taste a drop of alcohol in it. This restaurant was not my style, but seemed popular- mostly to young twenty- something's."

  • "First time at ambrosia was perfect. Our server Tory was amazing and attentive. She even gave us free dessert because it was our first time. My husband and I agreed with her menu suggestions and we have a perfect date night!"

  • "Came for a friend's birthday dinner. Most of us saved up out appetites for the dinner and were quite disappointed. The quantity we received for the price we paid was definitely not worth it. It's supposed to be tapas style but there is barely enough for one person. The food was quite tasty but I don't think it was worth the tiny plate for that price."

  • "I really have no complaints, I just wasn't impressed and there are plenty of other places where I would rather eat if I'm going to make a trip into town. The service was fine and the food tasted good but I guess I'm just not a fan of the tapas style eating - makes it hard to come to agreement when ordering. I would also say you don't get a whole lot for the money... I left feeling hungry which pretty much never happens when I go out to eat. The interior was not really to my liking either - just an old house converted but still felt old and not in a charming way. The very dim lighting helps to hide some of that. My overall take was just "enh.""

  • "We have started coming to Ambrosia on a regular basis when we want to have a great evening of wonderful food, solid service, and lots of fun without annoying other diners. They continue to find ways to improve each time we are there."

  • "I was pretty amazed by this find. I had heard about Ambrosia, but being there and tasting the food was totally awesome. Have had Tapas before, but Asian Tapas was different. The food was great tasting and the ambience was nice. You get your own niche in the crowd."

  • "I took my wife here cause this was suppose to be one of the top 10 romantic restaurants in houston. In my opinion not really that romantic but the place has great ambiance, a little noisy to be romantic."

  • "My wife and I eat out quite a bit. We were looking for a new spot in Houston when we came across Ambrosia. The ambiance is great-- dark, chic, quaint. The drinks were a bit on the small side (for the prices). I had the frozen Cosmo. It was average. My wife had a regular Cosmo, which was decent. The food was both good and average. Great flatbread. Great Brussels sprouts. I would not recommend the ribs and the shrimp was a bit too spicy. Overall, it is worth checking out, if not for the ambiance and the flatbread alone."

  • "We decided to try Amnesia based on pictures we saw on Facebook! It truly is a neighborhood gem didn't know there was a restaurant back there, the ambiance was pleasantly unexpected we had a private room that is perfect for groups. If you like fusion this is for you."

  • "Food was full of flavor....1) the beef in the Steak & Egg dish was very tender an moist. 2) potato wedges in chicken curry was flavorful . 3) Braised short ribs....literally falls off the bones However the sauce was a little sweet. 4) My daughter loved her crab fried rice with a sunny side up . We will love to return for an evening meal to try the small plates that were not offered during the weekend brunch."

  • "This place is a nice hideaway spot if you are in the mood to do something different! The food is good; mose items on the menu are very seasoned. We especially enjoyed the garlic spinach flatbread pizza and curry potatoes. The entrees are all ala carte and made for sharing, so please don't expect to order an entree and get your belly full unless you are sharing with others."

  • "Good atmosphere, expensive drinks, good service, food was not great for the price. If you go the meats are good for the price."

  • "This was a Girls Night Out for 4 mommas from the 'burbs. Since we don't get out much, we spent some time looking for just the right place to have drinks and a light meal before the rodeo. The website advertised a really eclectic atmosphere, Indian inspired menu, and Happy Hour. When we arrived, we found it to be just as advertised - really cool place. The service was GREAT and the food is AMAZING. One of us gals is gluten-intolerant and there were a number of delicious dishes she could eat - so that was a huge bonus. It's a bit difficult to find from the street, but plug the address into your GPS and it will take you right there. Great patio area, too. I would absolutely recommend Ambrosia for an intimate dinner, or a stop on a night out."

  • "This was my first time here, but it came highly recommended by some close friends. We had a birthday celebration and had a table on the front patio. While it was chilly that evening, they had heaters in place and everyone was comfortable. The food was amazing and our server, Ruby, was very attentive. They do not currently have a great wine list, but they welcome you to BYOB and pay a corkage fee. It's a little difficult to find as my navigation system said it was on the other side of the street and the sign is very small, but once you find it, it's a gem!"

  • "I took my husband out for his birthday for something new and different after reading the reviews on Ambrosia I figured it was worth a try...I loved the atmosphere, the decor, the music...The drinks are awesome! The food is tasty and a bit on the spicy side, but if your really hungry after a long day...This might not be the place for you, all menu items come out to share and are very, very, very moderate in size. We end up ordering almost the entire menu to fill my husband up, but overall it was an enjoyable experience."

  • "Great experience!! The food was very tasty and certainly unique. The reverse happy hour was also an added bonus to a great setting and atmosphere. The wait staff were also very helpful and the nigght very special for me and my girlfriend. We'll be going back very soon! The ribeye plate was amazing!"

  • "Ambrosia is a great little spot. As others have mentioned, it is tucked into the street and almost hidden away, but not all that difficult to find. The ambiance is great - the place has music playing in the background, dim lights, and tight spaces between the tables - makes you feel like you are in a trendy spot downtown. The chef's mix of foods and flavors is fantastic - I've been thinking of going back since leaving :) Definitely try it out. We loved the lamb samosas, lamb chops and brussel sprouts...even the drinks were a hit! The somewhat limited menu is refreshing compared to other spots with pages of items to look through that leave you wondering what to order."

  • "I was looking for a new spot and got a tip from a friend how great Ambrosia was for hanging out. My husband and I tried it on Valentine's Day, it was wonderful. We thoroughly enjoyed it. Every item we chose was great! It is very secluded, it's nice for a gathering but also great for a romantic evening."

  • "My boyfriend took me here for the first time on Valentine's Day and I really liked it! The food was exceptional, our waitress was super nice, it was a good crowd, and very romantic. The only thing I didn't like was that our table was right next to the door and it was pretty cold out. The door to the entrance kept opening with so many people going in and out but it would stay open so I was freezing the entire time. The servers were extremely nice though and when they saw that we were freezing, they tried to consistently check to make sure the door was closed and even brought a mini heater. Besides that, it was awesome. Try the brussel sprouts because they were OFF THE CHAIN and the best dish we had. Will definitely be back here!"

  • "Food was really flavorful, the wait staff were really busy, the space was too crowded, and the volume was too loud to easily hear across the table. We agreed to try again on a week night or lunchtime because the food was so good."

  • "Went on a Saturday evening with a reservation for 6:30. They did sit us by the door, which was a bit chilly as people kept coming and going. The spring mix salad had a wonderful garlic/citrus dressing. The chicken skewer was too spicy for my liking, but it was labeled so on the menu. Brussel sprouts are not to be missed, with shaved parmesan on the top. The mushroom basil nan bread was the favorite of the night! Interesting drink menu, I got a very sweet vanilla stoli and coconut milk drink for dessert, which was heavenly. The price was very reasonable for the amount of food we got. Will definitely be going back here."

  • "This was my first time coming to Ambrosia and I was impressed by both their service and flavorsome dishes. I never even knew this place existed until I found it on OpenTable. This place is great for an intimate date or group outing."

  • "Who knew paring Indian, Chinese, Thai, Vietnamese would work and at this hot spot in town it does work. The food is "to die for", the owners are always friendly and remember names, the servers are patient and pleasant . this has become our favorite Saturday night spot in town and I believe we have passed the word onto around 30 diners who had the same experience. Wonderful experience!"

  • "Very good food however the dishes are so small that you have to order several to make a meal, so be sure to go with a group they are not kidding when the menu says it is all about share."

  • "I have been to this place twice and was very pleased both times. I probably tried most of the menu! Great "asian food with a twist" without loss of authentic flavors. The food came out so fast that we had a table full of dishes, which was a bit overwhelming. Next time we will stagger our order."

  • "Absolutely a wonderful experience…cocktails were delicious and creative…food was well prepared, well served and well priced…great combination. Larger than tapas serving but a bit smaller than typical main course. Four plates more than enough for three "girl friends" as a complete meal. Accidentally went on a Thursday night and discovered all bottles of wine are half price on Thursday. The wine list is very limited, but more than adequate if you are out for a fun evening with friends. We would all go again and again."
