Diner Reviews
  • "We enjoyed the atmosphere of the restaurant. The food was above average. However our server wasn't knowledgeable of the menu. We weren't informed of the specials, given bread and she also didn't get our order correct. Overall we did enjoy the Reserve, but there is definite room for improvement as far as service."

  • "A group of us (4) visited for Easter Brunch and were delighted with the decor and the atmosphere. The restaurant is chic and the decor very well done. Our waitress who is a little quirky made it clear that she was there to serve and make us happy - even going to the trouble of making a lemonade from scratch...and then it all went down hill. Iced tea was served - but it was apple juice - an easy enough mistake. Butter wasn't butter - it was mayonnaise. Hmmm. And then we waited, and waited, and waited for food. An hour and a half later...yes....an hour and a half later, we were served our food. How busy was it? Another table of 6 only! Our apology from the manager - lousy. He clearly blamed the waitress. I thought he'd pick up the check!"

  • "A lovely restaurant in Downtown with a menu that mirrors other's throughout the city. Unimaginative flat bread, Korean style tacos like so many others. However, the short rib was delicious and the strip was also good. All in all, it was a nice place but doesn't set itself apart."

  • "Lovely, small , intimate hotel lobby restaurant/bar. Food was very good, presentation nicely done, our server was extremely helpful and charming. We loved this new "find" and will be back again. Highly recommend it for date night"

  • "When we arrived, we were made to feel special because the waiter stated that he had prepared a special table for us. It was as if they knew it was our anniversary because of the romantic seating, even though I had not mentioned this. We became a little concerned about the service after we sat down because we were abandoned at our table for about 5 or 10 minutes without anyone acknowledging us. It appeared as though they were short staffed temporarily and there seemed to be a sense of panic with the few staff members that were available. Finally, a waitress appeared and took our order and everything seemed to go smooth from that point on. Loved the decor and atmosphere of this place!"

  • "The food, service, and atmosphere where outstanding. They have a great happy hour. This is my new favorite place. Thanks to our server, we had an exceptional experience. In addition, if you are a dirty martini fan, this is the place to enjoy a good one!"

  • "The Reserve at the Ambassador Hotel is quickly becoming one of my favorite lunch time restaurants. The Food is always excellent, the service top notch, and the atmosphere is great! I have been there when they are slow and when they are busy, it does not matter the food and service is always leaps and bounds above others. I recommend this restraunt for business meetings, for lunch with friends, and/or for any occasions."

  • "Went for Restaurant Week. We were early and there was no one else dining. Food and Service were very good. Would go again if there is event downtown."

  • "Wait staff and dinner were fantastic! We had a pri fixe dinner that did not disappoint in any of the courses! They do have valet parking but we had to leave our car outside and bring keys in. That was unclear from curbside but not an issue once we popped inside to ask."

  • "Nothing exceptional to note about the food other than it was good. The service was excellent. I came for the brunch and because it was near my home. I will come back and try the main menu. I guess all said an done, I was more impressed with the decor than the food."

  • "Wow...this place was very surprising in a good way. The service and the food were spot on, and the atmosphere is very W Hotel. It is a great new venue in KC."

  • "I love love love this place. I was extremely pleased with everything we had! The coq u vin was just like I remember it in Paris. My new favorite spot. Great prices!"

  • "Took advantage of KC Restaurant Week and chose the Ambassador Hotel for lunch because I'd not heard of it before. I'm glad I did. The food was excellent - service was attentive and helpful - the hotel's decor is 1920's fabulous - and the harpist playing softly in the foyer added a delightful note (pun intended)."

  • "We ordered wine, a snack and 2 more courses each and the waiter had us out of there in 55 minutes. His plan, not ours. The vegetables were extremely salty. Pretty place, but I won't be rushing back."

  • "The only downside to this dining experience was that there was no hostess, I had to find someone to check in with our reservation time. Possibly they were a little short staffed on this particular evening. Otherwise, everything was great!"

  • "That said the food was excellent but not quite on par with the bar that was set when walking in. Service seemed disjointed and semi off. probably just for the day but somewhat unengaged. eg. when my plate was being put down the guy seemed distracted. and wasn't even looking to be sure he didn't spill it all over me."

  • "FANTASTIC!!! Every item we have tried in 3 visits now (brunch + 2 dinners) has been excellent - as has service! Coq a vin and the walnut/basil pesto pasta were both outstanding. Goat cheese salad was great too. Can't wait to try the Baileys Bread Pudding (from the head Irish Chef) sometime when I'm not so full from cleaning my plate!!! And the ambiance of this lovely boutique hotel, with restaurant tucked in the back, past the lobby of a pristinely and chicly restored old bank building, is beautiful and elegantly comfortable as well. I plan to be a regular here since we live downtown. And for those who don't - it's well worth the drive!"

  • "A friend and I decided to try the Reserve Sunday before seeing a concert. The service was exceptional - the front desk took care of the valet for the vehicle for us, the young lady that was our server was delightful and knowledgable."

  • ". . . but then so was the first, so we went back. The first time at the Reserve, there were 10 of us, and each one thought their meal was terrific. The second time was a more romantic situation for two. Again, we were not disappointed. Service was friendly and paced to our wishes. Food was outstanding, and the atmosphere is such that you can have a quiet conversation."

  • "3of us went for cocktails and small plates, and to exchange gifts. We were welcomed with a great greeting. Service was exactly what I want when I am dining in another establishment. Drinks were not "skimpy" and the small plates were perfect. Although there were not many people present I could tell by the surroundings it woul not be a noisy place. Will return again when back in town"

  • "Unfortunately, someone else was celebrating an engagement at the same time. They brought thier own music and were a large, caucous group of drinkers. Kudos to the establishment - they gave a discount for our experience."

  • "This is a beautiful gem in the heart of downtown KC. The decor is stunning and quiet making for easy conversation. Our server was very helpful in describing and suggesting delicious dishes. The chef came out and even gave a tour of his kitchen, of which he was justifiably proud."

  • "We had dinner with another couple at Reserve. We all liked the look and feel of the space. We appreciated the fact that we could really converse - the quite ambience is a plus. Between the 4 of us we tried the deviled eggs, a flatbread, short ribs, coq au vin and the mussels. Plus we all shared the chocolate-chip bread pudding for dessert. Everything was delicious. Our server was personable, attentive and had good suggestions for us. I am already looking forward to returning."

  • "We ate here when we arrived in town. The food was good but not much in way of choices. They were not busy and they had run out of of of the sides for the dishes I ordered. The main dish came out like warm. Service was very good and attentive."

  • "We had a table for 8, which means a lot of starters and a lot of entrees to try! EVERYTHING was excellent. The chef and his Irish accent made time to come out and say hello. Love the atmosphere. You don't have to stay at the hotel to eat here but I recommend it just because it's pretty great. Very happy to have this gem in KC. A particular highlight was the mixed berries with basil sugar and lemon sorbet for dessert! We let them know ahead of time it was my mother's birthday and they brought out a nice message on her dessert plate."

  • "Coq au vin was just OK at best. Wine was adequate. Service was incredibly slow despite the fact we informed them up front that we had theater ticket for 7:30. There were only 2-3 other table seated so I don't understand the very, very slow service. We were late for our theater and I was not happy."

  • "Reserve at The Ambassador has a modern elegant ambiance-very sophisticated, but warm and cozy at the same time. I had the coq au vin and it was scrumptious. Looking forward to my next visit."

  • "We loved the bar and restaurant space. Be sure to ask for one of the 'sofa' tables - very cool. Food was very good. Service was as well, but our meal took a little longer than expected. The chef came out personally to apologize AND gave us a 20% off card for next time. We weren't that concerned about it, but this extra effort meant alot. We will definitely go back. Looks like a great bar to sit at and have a cocktail as well."

  • "The Reserve had good to excellent food. My Arugula salad was as expected, but fairly routine. The Coq au Vin was excellent and very true to the original version, except for a somewhat lighter, but still wonderfully flavored sauce. The chicken appeared to have been roasted separately so it stood out from the sauce and had it's own flavor. Wine list is very limited, but there are some decent selections. The atmosphere is intimate and romantic - would be good for an anniversary or birthday dinner for 2 The service was okay but the waiter was late taking our order, checking back and bringing the bill. I would try it again if in the area for dinner. 2 salads, entrees, 2 glasses of wine and tip - $91.00."

  • "Very good food and a beautiful atmosphere. Had it not been for a few shortfalls in service, this great place would easily be rated outstanding. I will definitely return!"

  • "The menu wasn't the same as on the web site which was the first disappointment. Although there weren't many other customers, we had to wait an incredibly long time for our lunch and after it arrived, the server never came back until we hunted her down to get our check. Our food was overcooked, dry and cold and mine was almost devoid of the Hollandaise Sauce it claimed to include. Thoroughly disappointing."

  • "There were eight of us. It took too long for initial drink orders, but once things go rolling service was attentive. Food was prepared quickly and served warm and smoothly, not always the case with eight people. Menu was not overwhelming but complete and execution was superb. One member of our party said the short rib was the best she'd ever had. Wanted to say overnight and eat again the next day!! Will definitely return."
