Alligator SoulOnly just shy of the veryOnly just shy of the very very best of internationally acclaimed restaurants.5/14/2013 12:00:00 AMPerfect! My husband and I celebrated our 10th anniversary there this weekend. The service was attentive, knowledgable and friendly. My husband enjoyed the whiskey flight and my wine was superb. Our food was delicious.5/10/2013 12:00:00 AMIt's simple. They care aboutIt's simple. They care about their guests. Service and food excellent. They also know how to mix a drink.5/8/2013 12:00:00 AMSo niceWonderfull evening. Great food, great service. We really feld like being vip's.5/7/2013 12:00:00 AMModest Stumble...Our waitress was exceptional - that being said, the experience was diminished by unusually slow service. This was our first visit, (we truly enjoy a methodical, multi-course meal). However, the restaurant was not particularly crowded on a Tuesday night, and it was very peculiar to have each course take so long. The real disappointment came when our main course was served at room temperature after another extraordinary wait. Unfortunately, It's impossible to give high scores under these conditions.
In all fairness, the manager apologized personally, noted their difficulties that evening with certain support staff members, and offered to compensate us for any inconvenience. Although not necessary, the gesture & effort was appreciated.5/7/2013 12:00:00 AMExcellentWe had a great experience eating here on our first night visiting Savannah. Our server, Sonny, was fantastic. He was very accommodating, friendly, and helpful with any questions we had about the menu and touring Savannah. We really enjoyed the Jumbalaya and the Shrimp & Gritz. I would recommend this place on the service alone, but the food and atmosphere were perfect as well.5/5/2013 12:00:00 AMPleasant experienceI chose Alligator Soul by way of internet reviews and recommendations by local residents. My girlfriend and I had a very pleasant dining experience to say the least. The service was great and the food was awesome. Alligator soul is a great place for a romantic dinner for two or a small group looking for a more subdued atmosphere. Probably not the best place for small children but certainly suitable for older children with a sense of epicurean adventure.5/5/2013 12:00:00 AMWe celebrated our 16th WeddingWe celebrated our 16th Wedding Anniversary at Alligator Soul! It was amazing! Our waitress was really great! The entire staff was wishing us a Happy Anniversary. They gave us a desert with our names on it. We had the best food! This is a must visit while in Savannah.4/22/2013 12:00:00 AMExcellent food and customer serviceAlligator Soul goes the extra mile to make sure their customers have a wonderful experience. The food selection was fantastic with common meats and fish to cater to the traditional palate as well as something for the adventurous eater with a game meat selection. The cheese grit croutons are a must try. I will definitely be dining here again.4/22/2013 12:00:00 AMLoved our dining experience.Loved our dining experience. Great atmosphere, super happy and friendly staff. Our food was enjoyable but the highlight was the honey lavender creme brûlée for dessert. Alex was our waiter and he was very attentive and entertaining. I will be back when I am in town and I will be telling my friends to check it out!4/21/2013 12:00:00 AMUnique and Wonderful DiningExotic and Adventurous are the best words to describe this wonderful dining experience. Upon being seated,we were presented with a lovely 25th Anniversary gift by our personable waiter; a box containing pecan tarts to enjoy after our meal. Then, as we perused the lengthy wine and cocktail menus, another server presented us with a delicious sample of antelope stew. We enjoyed lavendar and orange corn muffins as we waited for our entrees: Lamb with a fig sauce, sauteed red kale and apple and fig rice for me and blackened snapper over ragout for my husband. Dessert was banana beignets with vanilla bean ice cream. Some of the more exotic choices on the menu include: buffalo, kangaroo, turtle, gator, duck, antelope, all delicious.4/21/2013 12:00:00 AMFound this restaurant onlineFound this restaurant online with most excellent reviews. Everything about this place was outstanding especially the food and service.4/20/2013 12:00:00 AMAlways excellent!Always exceptional - even if you have to wait a few minutes for a table the food, service, and ambiance are definitely well worth the wait! The shrimp and grits were excellent and the exotic meat is always a delicious and interesting preparation.4/19/2013 12:00:00 AMWe went there on a rainy FridayWe went there on a rainy Friday night to celebrate my husband's birthday(I told them in advance). It was a busy restaurant in a successful way, no one standing on line. They sat us right away, had a special little box of chocolates with happy birthday on the table for him, and greeted him by name saying happy birthday when we arrived. The food was as promised, excellent quality, we shared the cheese plate for an appetizer, I had two appetizers for dinner, the quantities are not skimpy, nor is the price. My husband's steak was huge. We would go there again, it was not a tourist trap kind of restaurant which a lot of places in Savannah are.4/19/2013 12:00:00 AMWe went for dinner on a quickWe went for dinner on a quick trip through Savannah.
The food was both creative and impeccable. While I had one of the best steaks of my life, my wife had a very well prepared rabbit dish. Very accommodating to dietary needs.4/17/2013 12:00:00 AMThis is one of the top spotsThis is one of the top spots in Savannah. Drinks were very good. Ribeye was outstanding. Duck fries were very good. Jambalaya was great. There are many OK places to eat in Savannah but only a few outstanding places and this is one of them!4/16/2013 12:00:00 AMMy wife and I celebrated ourMy wife and I celebrated our 25th wedding anniversary at Alligator Soul. The food and service were excellent.4/16/2013 12:00:00 AMThe food was pricey, but veryThe food was pricey, but very good. I had a cold smoked dry aged cajun spiced ribeye with duck fat fries. The steak was very good, but the fries were ordinary. My companion had a lamb porterhouse which was very good also. We arrived early on a Monday when only a handful of diners were there, but the place was full when we left. Service was especially good throughout the meal. As a twosome, we were seated aside in a little room of other tables for two, so we missed out on the ambiance of the restaurant. This room did get uncomfortably warm during the evening, so we were glad to get into cool fresh air when we left.4/15/2013 12:00:00 AMOne of the best meals I haveOne of the best meals I have had in quite some time. Interesting and different menu--Would highly recommend!4/14/2013 12:00:00 AMA great place to spend ourA great place to spend our 25th wedding anneversary. Loved our waitress food was great4/13/2013 12:00:00 AMLovely location and delicious food!Looking for a place that wouldn't be laden with the tourists in town, be opted for Alligator Soul, as recommended by our bartender at a prime hotel on the river. Although our reservations through open table were for 7:30 p.m., we didn't get seated until 8:00, but the Manhattan's at the bar helped us get through the wait! In terms of the food, it was absolutely spot on. I had the pork three ways, and it was absolutely diving. Will make sure to go back when in Savannah!4/11/2013 12:00:00 AMLove the options for vegan.Love the options for vegan. The service was great and the food was superb.4/6/2013 12:00:00 AMOur main courses were notOur main courses were not the greatest. The scallops were a little tough and my signature steak was only warm when brought to me. The tenderness was great but my pallet was not keen on the flavor.4/6/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat food- some of the selectionsGreat food- some of the selections were very exotic. It didn't have a huge menu but the food we had was all wonderful. I'm a vegetarian and thought that I might not enjoy my meal as much as my meat loving friends. There was only one vegetarian/vegan option for the main course and it rotates but it was wonderful! The wine list was not extensive the but prices were very reasonable, which I liked. Wonderful desserts too!!!4/6/2013 12:00:00 AMAmazingOne of the best meals I've ever had! They had an ostrich special that was just out of this world! And everyone else's meals(4) were great. The service was top-notch as well as the specialty drinks.I can't wait until I'm in Savannah again.4/6/2013 12:00:00 AMSimply wonderful...My daughter (12 years old) and I were looking for something different to do on our last night in Savannah. My daughter is willing to try just about anything & seemed really excited to try something new and exciting off of the menu. While the people who greeted us at the door where less than welcoming (shoo-ing us off to the bar, saying our table wasn't ready, while the table we eventually sat at was empty from the minute we walked in), everyone else was absolutely wonderful. We had the charcuterie plate, and two specials (buffalo steak and ostrich fillet), and the banana beignets. Everything was absolutely fabulous. We will both talk about this dinner for a long time.4/5/2013 12:00:00 AMThe atmosphere was amazingThe atmosphere was amazing and the food was even better. All of the dishes ordered exceded all expectations. The "little hilbo" and the exotic special were both exceptional. I can't wait for another chance to return and try more dishes. The beer, wine and house drinks all were well thought out and enhanced the food presented. Highly recommend this restaurant!4/4/2013 12:00:00 AMAbsolutely awesome experience.Absolutely awesome experience. Great food to match great service. We sat at the bar the night before our reservations just to check it out. Next day, bartender and manager remembered us and thanked us for coming back. Very personable!4/4/2013 12:00:00 AMA revelationA revelation. The flavors were truly creative. This is a chef that likes to try new approaches, with great success. Service is attentive and pleasant.4/2/2013 12:00:00 AMOur meal was just superb andOur meal was just superb and I think this is by far the best restaurant in Savannah. It is in a lower level of an old building with brick walls, nice bar and very good ambience. Drink menu was well done, very nice wine list and perfect meal. The Blue Crab Tart for an appetiser was delicious and for it alone I would revisit! We split a salad and it was large and nicely done with berries and amazing goat cheese. The whole meal was delightful amd very Farm to Table in menu. Highly recommend - it was our anniversary and was a great choice. There is a large flight of stairs down to get to the restaurant, and for some that could be a problem. We plan on coming back next year and heading to Alligator Soul.3/31/2013 12:00:00 AMOur server was Sonny. He wasOur server was Sonny. He was very knowledgable and interactive. He explained everything to a tee and even brought out some wine samples based upon the wine my wife ordered. It was so good it converted her to his selection of wine. The food is where it gets good...my wife had the shrimp and grits and both of us tasted it and agreed that that is how shrimp and grits are supposed to be. Nice and spicy with melt in your mouth shrimp. I had the little hilbo which was a ribeye steak that literally melted in your mouth. So much that I cut the steak with a butter knife. The duck fat fried fries were amazing. There was nothing bad I could say about this restaurant.3/31/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat friendly service. AwesomeGreat friendly service. Awesome ambiance. My issue here is that I found myself looking at the bill wondering what I was actually paying for. The menu was very interesting. The food was good but not great. Nothing we had that night blew me away. Bottom line is that I was not sorry that we went but won't go back.3/30/2013 12:00:00 AMVery good experience. OurVery good experience. Our waiter was somewhat distracted, but nothing too annoying. Our food was excellent. Would definitely recommend.3/30/2013 12:00:00 AMExcellent first time diningFirst time eating here. Highly recommended!3/30/2013 12:00:00 AMA must try.My wife and I finally had a chance to try this place, good food, great atmosphere,, very romantic and a must try if your in Savannah. I would say its by far the best, along with the Old Pink house and Vicks on the river, but Old Pink house is better. A little pricey but still a good find.3/30/2013 12:00:00 AMEverything about alligatorEverything about alligator soul was very good. I will definitely be going there again.3/29/2013 12:00:00 AMOutstanding food. Great service.Outstanding food. Great service. The food was great too; we tried the daily exotic dish which was ostrich and that was cooked and seasoned perfectly. The jambalaya, scallops, creme brulee and flourless espresso chocolate cake were great too. Highly recommended!3/23/2013 12:00:00 AMOutstanding menu choices.Outstanding menu choices. Quick service and atmosphere was amazing!3/22/2013 12:00:00 AMWe had our anniversary celebrationWe had our anniversary celebration there and the food was great. Our server was also very good. The best part was there was adequate gluten free selections. We enjoyed it and recommend it.3/22/2013 12:00:00 AMWe were in Savannah for sixWe were in Savannah for six meals (lunches and dinners. Alligator Soul was by no means the best known or most highly rated, and certainly not the most expensive, but we had our most memorable meal there. Thoughtful service, interesting menu choices and fine quality food. Way better than, for example, Olde Pink House, where food quality was inferior, to the point of inedible.3/21/2013 12:00:00 AMOur dinner was wonderful,Our dinner was wonderful, the chef was very flexible and provided a number of choices given some of my companions dietary restrictions The service was attentive without being intrusive. The atmosphere was relaxed and friendly. As we were leaving the restaurant and older couple asked if we had eaten at Alligator Soul and we said yes. He was either from Savannah or close by because he said that he told his wife that morning that there was no real reason to come back to Savannah but he added now there was, Alligator Soul. I would agree3/21/2013 12:00:00 AMA Real TreatA wonderful surprise and treat! Outstanding and exceptionally creative food, presented beautifully. Lovely atmosphere and very competent and friendly service. When in Savannah again, definitely will return.3/19/2013 12:00:00 AMFirst time here, though beenFirst time here, though been in the metro Savannah area for 8 years. This isn't just a tourist stop. This establishment is supporting our local economy through a farm to table philosophy. Everything on our table came from a Georgia farm or Georgia waters. From the cheese selection, beef, shrimp, to the carrots and cauliflower. This is a local gem worth the money for a special occasion or just something different.3/16/2013 12:00:00 AMBest meal we had in Savannah! We had a couple specialty drinks each at the bar- Kelly was absolutely wonderful in terms of expertise and conversation. She led us to a great table for two, where the friendly and attentive, without being intrusive, server named Sonny took over.
The menu had a number of intriguing offerings, but I settled on the shrimp and grits app and a pork chop. The app was sufficiently large to be an entre, was prepared and seasoned better than any I have ever tried before. I don't usually order pork, because often it's boring and dry, but this was an amazing preparation. We did not have room for dessert. If this doesn't rank as the best in Savannah, with its service and a creative menu options, I'd be amazed.3/11/2013 12:00:00 AM
