  • "This was our third visit and it was outstanding as usual."

  • "Went here for a meal with friends while visiting Savannah on a quick weekend trip. The food was wonderful. The waitstaff was superb. They went above and beyond to make any accommodations as well as assist us during our meal. The elk was amazing, the oyster appetizer was one of the best we have ever had, all of our meals were delicious. We went to the Olde Pink House the next night and all in our group voted that Alligator Soul was by far our favorite."

  • "Alligator Soul needs to be booked in advance on busy weekends. Food was great - most tender filet I've ever had! Stay away from the duck donut, though. The service was attentive - they even asked about food allergies, preferences, etc before we ordered. And very accommodating as they gladly substituted extra veggies for the starch with my main. A Savannah gem!"

  • "This was our first visit to Alligator Soul but had heard about it for a while and it did not disappoint. We visit Savannah at least once a year and this will now be a must visit every time we do. We had a party of 5 and not one person had anything negative to say about the food, drinks or service!! There were some hooligans at the bar but at no fault to the restaurant. Some people just don't know how to act in public. If you're in Savannah this is a must eat!! Simple the best in all aspecs!!"

  • "Not what I expected from a restaurant like this. I was shocked to find a roach in my drink and spent the rest of the evening wondering where it came from: the glass, the ice or the booze. That was a little off-putting. The beer menu was not very good. My husband likes an amber beer and they had 2 to choose from, neither of which he especially liked. The food was delicious, however. We tried the alligator boudin, the bison and the elk. To finish the meal, we shared The Millionaire. I am not a coffee drinker, but that drink was fabulous. Our waitress was nice. I was a little irritated that literally every few minutes someone was at the table, so it was difficult for us to have a conversation. Overall, I would not revisit this restaurant."

  • "SAlligator Soul was FABULOUS! The food was amazing!! My husband and I enjoyed the Oyster A LA Soul. So, so good! From the soup to the Soul Creole to my husband 16oz Ribeye....YUMMY is all I can say. This place was a find for us. We loved the ambience, the service and the food. We will definitely go again on our next visit. We will also make sure we try some of the exotic fare on our next visit to Savannah. We absolutely loved the entire experience."

  • "This basement restaurant was a very mixed experience. Arriving late for our reservation, the hostesses seemed annoyed. The restaurant was about half-full... so it didn't seem like that big a deal. They seated us at a table that was at the intersection of a hallway and a door to the main dining room. It became clear that the table was in a very high traffic area with many servers trying to squeeze past each other. They frequently hit our table while doing this and had a hard time navigating the area. When I asked to be re-seated, the (different) person at the host stand responded negatively and mentioned they had "worse tables" that I might have been seated at. They did re-seat us and the food and remaining service were excellent."

  • "Service- Great! The restaurant called to confirm my reservation the day before. A table was ready immediately upon our arrival. The timing/pace of the meal was perfect. Main course did not come out while sitting eating the appetizer. Our server was friendly and knowledgeable about the meal. Food- Amazing! The best meal we had in Savannah. I wanted to go back the next night, and the next... The beef tenderloin wrapped in bacon was perfecting cooked (medium), juicy, and fully of flavor. The shrimp and grits were rich and buttery. Overall- When I return to Savannah reservations at Alligator Soul will be made."

  • "We celebrated our anniversary here. The staff was very attentive and professional. We ordered the boidan sausage and oysters. Very good! We had the creole and kangaroo entres. Creole wasn't anything exceptional but still very good. The kangaroo was well prepared and tasty. I would recommend this place. I would like to go back because I want to try more items on the menu!"

  • "We made reservation for our 40th anniversary. I had the rib eye and it was perfect. My wife even enjoyed my steak. The fries cooked duck fat were almost as good as the steak. I had to almost fight my wife for them. She had the kangaroo too much spice. Her comment it taste like Chinese five spice. She said she still has not tasted kangaroo. The special gift of a bottle wine for our anniversary was the special. I am diabetic the special order of a bowl of slice fruit was nice and pleasant. My wife had the chocolate cake parfait, it was 8 out of 10."

  • "The food was amazing and the choices were unique. Bison, kangaroo, etc. The restaurant really is a hidden gem in Savannah. Service was impeccable and great choice of wines. Will definitely go back when visiting Savannah!"

  • "The oyster appetizer was really good, but dinner was just okay. Dessert was a real let down. The food is good, but not great and the prices are pretty steep for what you get. I will try other places around town before I go back to Alligator Soul."

  • "Several locals told us to give it a try and we were not disappointed. Upon entering the greeting was very welcoming. The menu offers a wonderful variety. My shrimp & grits was a spicy take on a southern classic and my husbands duck cassoulet was superb. Dave room for dessert the banana beignets are too good to miss. I just wish it was closer to home."

  • "Everything our table had was wonderful. Although pricy, the portions were generous. Our table had the shrimp and grits, cheese board, gator sausage, Oysters, and Elk exotic special. Everything was divine. One of the best shrimp and grits I've had, the Elk was tender and melts in your mouth and the gator sausage wasn't overly salty like a lot of house-made sausages. Our service was impeccable and our waiter was very personal telling us the history of the building and giving some Savannah suggestions."

  • "We went here for our anniversary dinner while taking a trip to Savannah. It was a great experience. Fabulous food, locally sourced and ethical foods, ambiance, and service. Wish it wasn't so far from New York or we would go often! Don't hesitate. GO!"

  • "Ate here on a Saturday night w/ my wife & had an excellent mea!. The atmosphere is great, w/ arched bricked walls & soulful murals throughout. The place was rocking this night but we were promptly seated at our reservation time. Our waiter, Adam was excellent, friendly, funny and attentive. We had the fried green tomato appetizer along w/ an alligator sausage link. The tomatoes were great & come in 3 large slices. The sausage was a tab bland for our liking. The entrees of Shrimp & Grits & an etoufee style dish were amazing, as was the warm, soft french bread & great butter. I told them it was our anniversary ahead of time & they had a small box waiting for us w/ a happy Anniv. message & small dessert inside! We loved this place!!"

  • "My wife and I recently dined at Alligator Soul with a friend who is a Savannah local. We were celebrating my birthday. We were treated like royalty. Our waiter, Jacob I believe, was fantastic. He was spot on when we needed something and the wine he recommended was a great value. I later realized I did not leave a gratuity worthy of his service. Each in our party raved about their meal. From the bar service to the appetizer, to the wine and dessert, it was all a 10. I highly recommend this charming restaurant if you are visiting Savannah."

  • "Everything was beautiful and wonderful. There were no true negatives. Meal was well presented as well as the wine. The only changes I would make would be to lessen the water refills that were constant and lower the tones of the staff when interacting with others. This in no way interfered with our dinner, please understand that. Just mere suggestions. Thank you for the wonderful night"

  • "The food was unbearably salty and we waited over an hour for the entree after the appetizer. The waitress was very professional but the long wait really ruined the whole experience."

  • "Beautiful restaurant, wonderful and knowledgeable service. We started with the oysters (AMAZING) and cheese plate - very good. For our entrees the DH had the Little Hilbo (ribeye with hilbo spice, served with green beans and he subbed the fries for smashed pots) and I asked what the specialty was and got the Creole and it was ok. I would highly recommend the oysters and the hilbo, but next time I will try something else - maybe the exotic dish! All things aside, the service is impeccable - you can tell they trained their staff well, and the staff cares. You will never want for anything as there is at least 2 people in addition to your waiter coming around to check your water, clear, etc."

  • "We come here once a year. The menu is seasonal. The food is excellent and the service is top notch. At a place like this you are there for the experience so an hour and a half is probably expected. They were a little slower than normal this time but I'll give them a break based on past experience. They have steaks on the menu which are very good. Note, this is not a "steak house" so don't compare their steaks with say Ruth Chris. Decent steaks, great seafood, and lots of excellent entrees and appetizers. You can't go wrong. Last Advice - Upscale but you don't need a suit. - Parking is street or parking garage - Be sure your credit card has plenty of room :-)"

  • "Tucked away, this is a gem. The farm to table really shows through. The oysters are amazing. The cassoulet and pheasant were some of the food we've had in a long time. Homemade bread and butter was icing on the cake. Reservations are recommended"

  • "We have eaten at Alligator Soul for the last 5 years at least once a year. We live in metro Atlanta and come to Savannah once or twice a year and the one thing we look forward to the most is eating at this restaurant. We have never been disappointed in any aspect of our dining experience. Having worked in the food service industry and recently retired I'm more critical than most. To top that my husband loves my shrimp and grits but reluctantly agrees Alligator Souls are better. Enjoy"

  • "The entire staff was fantastic. Maureeen does a great job with her restaurant. Love the bar area also. Great martinis. The menu is a little higher in price but well worth the few extra dollars. This staff was more than accommodating of our many requests. This is a spot I will continue to search out each time I visit the area. I highly recommend reservations in advance."

  • "We celebrated our 50th wedding anniversary by having dinner at Alligator Soul. I can honestly say that it was without a doubt the best find during our combined stays in Charleston and Savannah! Outstanding occasion and we'll definitely return!"

  • "We have eaten at Alligator Soul a handful of times and we are always blown away. They always have an exotic special and fish special that further enhances an already unique menu. I tried ostrich for the first time on one of our recent visits and it was awesome! The short rib, tenderloin and shrimp and grits are a few of our favorites. Alligator Soul is offers an alternate dining experience, excellent service and a great atmosphere."

  • "We finally found ourselves in Savannah for a "without kids" weekend 6 months in the making!! How surprised we were when we made our reservation at Alligator Soul and they contacted us back and said..."What can we do to make this special evening that much more special?" The folks there were just amazing...from the hostess to the bartenders to Adam our waiter. We were just blown away.......and we had only been there 5 minutes!!! Got to our table and what do we find.....a special box with a personalized label on it for us, which made my wife cry.....and she never cries! The attention to the small details is really what we loved about this place. The exotic food, great drinks, wonderful staff....we can't say enough!! This place rocks!!!"

  • "Everything was great, but the put pork in everything. I'm a non pork eater and had to replace my meal with grits only to find out they put port in the grits too. Other than that it was very nice..."

  • "My wife and I enjoyed Alligator Soul on our last night in Savannah. Tucked away on a side street and down a set of stairs under a building, it's dive bar façade gave way to a classy and very open interior like an indoor garden/patio. The menu was first rate and loved the attention to local sources and seasonality. Our evening was a bit impacted by a neighboring table with a group inebriated adults AND a tired noisy baby, but we couldn't mark the restaurant down for that."

  • "Looking out the window of my new home of 3 weeks I saw the most interesting sign! I made reservations that same day and had the dining experience of the week! We had oysters, and shrimp and grits and a delicious elk tenderloin special! Topped off with a dessert special and some banana bienets , it was all the best! Our waiter, Sonny was wonderful and did an excellent job, explaining the intricacies of the menu, and all of our questions also. Each suggestion Sonny made for our group of 3 was spot on, he really knew the menu well. The bar area was busy, but didn't detract from the rest of the dining area. Overall one of the best places I've been! We will be back, and not just because it is in the neighborhood! Thanks Sonny!"

  • "We were looking for something different and boy did we find a gem. The food and service were second to none in Savannah. Off the beaten path Alligator Soul was a romantic getaway for our or any special occasion. I had a very generous order of Elk which was cooked perfectly. My special lady had the Salmon which also was wonderful, both were completely different tasting than the normal fried everything throughout Savannah."

  • "Amazing! I had the elk and my husband had the bison. SO good. Service was among the best I have ever had. I would most def come here again. And again. And again."
